Say Goodbye to ‘Downton Abbey’ With Beautiful New ‘Grand Finale’ Image [Exclusive]
Image
The doors to Downton Abbey are opening one last time — and this time, it’s for goodbye. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finaleofficially premieres in theatres on September 12. As part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event, we are pleased to accept an RSVP from Elizabeth McGovern's Cora and Laura Carmichael's Lady Edith Grantham as we exclusively debut a new image from the final installment in the long-running franchise.

After more than a decade of upstairs-downstairs drama, witty remarks, romantic entanglements, and historic milestones, it all comes down to this: one last gathering, one final bow. Set in the early 1930s, the film picks up as the Crawleys — and the loyal staff that make Downton tick — confront a new world changing rapidly around them. But if the trailer makes one thing clear, it’s that not everything has changed. The clink of silverware, the rustle of gowns, the warm glow...

Ralph Fiennes Stars in the Third WWI Drama of His Career With Brand New Trailer
Image
It's always interesting to get new perspectives of all the different lives that both world wars impacted. In the new drama movie The Choral, set during World War I, the Choral Society in Ramsden, Yorkshire, is dealing with a unique situation: most of their singers were recruited to join the army, and they need to find a way to find new talent. The movie stars Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), who is in another war drama after starring in titles like Schindler's List and The English Patient. The movie premieres in theaters this Christmas.

The trailer for The Choral suggests that the movie will be an enjoyable one despite the scenario in which it all takes place. It makes sense, however, that people would look for a bit of art and emotion in the middle of a huge influx of bad news. In the story, Dr. Henry Guthrie (Fiennes) is recruited to...

Alan Bennett
20th Century life, grief, and music collide in the moving first trailer for ‘The Choral,’ the fourth collaboration between legendary writer Alan Bennett and acclaimed director Nicholas Hytner. The BAFTA, Olivier, and Tony Award-winning duo behind ‘The Madness of King George,’ ‘The History Boys,’ and ‘The Lady in the Van’ return with a deeply human, quietly rousing story set against the backdrop of World War I.

Set in 1916 Yorkshire, the movie tells the story of a small-town choral society in Ramsden struggling to survive as its male singers are swept away by war. With the Western Front swallowing its youth and conscription looming, the choral’s ambitious committee refuses to disband. Instead, they rally to keep the music alive by recruiting younger local men and appointing a new chorus master. Enter Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes), a stern, enigmatic figure just returned from a life in Germany. Though whispers swirl about his past,...

Downton Abbey 3 Trailer Previews the Grand Finale of the Crawley Family's Story
Image
The time has come to say goodbye. The official trailer for Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the third and final entry in the big-screen continuation of the beloved PBS series, has arrived.

After 15 years, the story of the Crawleys and their staff will come to an end this September with Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. All the familiar faces are back in the official trailer for the historical drama threequel, which looks set to feature plenty of heartfelt (and heart-wrenching) moments. As is often the case when it comes to Michelle Dockery's Lady Mary Talbot, there will also be a dash of scandal, as the trailer reveals that the fan-favorite character has divorced her husband, Henry Talbot. This development shouldn't come as too much of a shock to Downton fans, given that Henry's portrayer, Matthew Goode, has noticeably been absent from the franchise since the 2019 film, with the...

SXSW London: ‘Downton Abbey’ Producer Says ‘The Grand Finale’ Gives Franchise a ‘Full and Proper Conclusion’
Image
“Downton Abbey” looked like it had closed its doors for good in December 2015 when the awards-conquering TV series came to attend. Then came the hugely successful film spinoff, which seemed to have drawn to a natural end with the second feature “A New Era,” in which Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess passed away in the final scenes.

But this September sees the release of the third film “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale,” bringing back most of the original cast members, plus one-off returnees Paul Giamatti and Dominic West and newcomers Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale and Art Froushan.

As the name suggests, “The Grand Finale” is set to be the conclusive “Downton Abbey” film, which was something that Gareth Neame, CEO of Carnival Films (owned by Universal International Studios), which has produced “Downton” since the start, underlined at SXSW London.

“The Show Has to Match That”: House of the Dragon Season 3 Is Ready to Rectify Its Worst Mistake After George R.R. Martin’s Explosive Rant
Image
When dragons take flight, kingdoms burn. And House of the Dragon Season 3 is fanning the flames for what might be its most explosive chapter yet. Fire, blood, betrayal—it’s all brewing into a full-blown Targaryen inferno. Though it started slower than a raven in winter, HBO’s first Game of Thrones spin-off has found its fire. House of the Dragon has gone from cautious political plays to fiery clashes, with fans once again rallying under the banners of George R.R. Martin’s epic world.

And if whispers from the realm are true, Season 3 could rival the best of Thrones—think “Battle of the Bastards” level mayhem with dragons added to the mix.

For the uninitiated, House of the Dragon draws from Martin’s Fire & Blood, set 200 years before Game Of Thrones. It’s the rise and fall of House Targaryen.

Paul Giamatti Describes Downton Abbey 3 as Tribute to Maggie Smith
Paul Giamatti

In an interview with People, Giamatti said the cast continued working with her memory in mind. “It was not the same without her, but it felt very much like in her honor in some way,” he said. “She certainly still feels present through the whole thing. Not having her there is obviously a huge loss, but everybody was still acting in her spirit.”

Giamatti plays Harold Levinson, the brother of Cora Crawley, a role he first portrayed during the show’s 2013 Christmas special. Although his initial appearance was limited to one episode, Giamatti said he was surprised to be invited back. “The interesting thing for me was that they even asked me at all because I was like,...

“It’s time to say goodbye.”

That’s the tagline for “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale,” at least according to a new trailer that premiered at CinemaCon on Wednesday.

Focus Features presented the first look the sequel as part of Universal’s presentation to theater owners and executives at CinemaCon, and it offers some of the upstairs, downstairs drama that’s made this series so beloved — only this time everything is done in a more elegiac key. Tommy Flanagan gets added to the House of the Dragon season 3 cast
Image
A third season of House of the Dragon is on the way, with another spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set to debut on HBO this year. There have been a number of Game of Thrones projects that have been scrapped, including a Jon Snow series, which Kit Harington has said is now on the shelf. “Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough,” Harington said. “So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.” Although the Jon Snow spinoff is no longer in development, HBO’s Casey Bloys said he would be open to revisiting it down the line.
