Alan Cumming was one of the more surprising names to be announced during that massive Avengers: Doomsday's cast reveal live-stream, but the actor is indeed set to reprise his role as Nightcrawler for the next big MCU event movie.
Cumming made his one and only appearance in 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise as Kurt Wagner in X2, but declined the studio's offer to return for the third film because he had no interest in sitting through the arduous makeup process again.
Wagner didn't show up in again until Kodi Smit-McPhee took over as a younger take on the character in X-Men: Apocalypse.
There's been some speculation that Cumming may only be lending his voice to a fully CG take on Nightcrawler, but the actor recently confirmed that this will not be the case.
"Isn't it nuts? I'm excited and amazed," Cumming told Collider when asked about his return for Doomsday.

Everyone knows Ryan Reynolds is a cheeky scamp among Hollywood’s most beloved entertainers. Still, is the Canadian darling teasing something special for Marvel’s upcoming event film Avengers: Doomsday? Yesterday, Reynolds posted a cryptic image of the Avengers logo with an anarchy symbol over the original lettering to his Instagram account. Is Ryan Reynolds implying that Deadpool is coming to Avengers: Doomsday? That would be my first guess.

After an exhaustive cast reveal in March, Marvel Studios promised more additions to Avengers: Doomsday are forthcoming. The studio did not say if it would hold another livestream event to share the latest cast members, so it’s entirely possible that Marvel gave Reynolds the go-ahead to tease fans on social media. Understandably, Deadpool fans are already freaking out at the thought of the Merc with a Mouth returning to theaters,...

It's a fantastic time to be Joseph Quinn. Over a decade after he unsuccessfully threw his hat in the ring to play Peter Parker in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," the English actor is enjoying the fruits of a multi-year hot streak that began with a breakout performance as Eddie Munson in "Stranger Things 4" back in 2022. Both he and the character became something of a viral hit, making him one of the most in-demand young actors almost overnight.
Having previously played smaller, supporting roles in British television dramas that seldom made much noise in the states, Quinn was now being courted to star in major film franchises, including a highly-anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott's "Gladiator," a prequel to John Krasinski's blockbuster horror series "A Quiet Place," and, of course, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," arguably the most coveted Marvel Studios project produced in years. In a full-circle moment, James Marsden is returning to the role that first put him “on the map.”
The Paradise actor and newly minted Emmy nominee sat down with Vanity Fair recently to discuss reprising his X-Men character Cyclops in the Russo Brothers’ forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
“I’m getting a little long in the tooth to put on the superhero costume,” he said, laughing. “I was excited because you’re a part of something gigantic, and I’ve spent 20 years listening to people say, ‘When are you coming back? When are you coming back? Are you coming back?'”
The Westworld and Dead to Me alum continued, “I’m dead. Well, maybe not. I’m going to have a tough time struggling to get into costume if they waited a couple more years. So it’s been a blast. It really has. It’s been a nice little homecoming to...

This August Thunderbolts* might finally be coming to Disney+,and later than any Marvel movie before it.
A new commercial airing in Greece has started a wave of rumors, saying the movie will hit the streamer on Wednesday, August 27. If that’s true, it would mark the longest gap between a Marvel movie’s theater release and its Disney+ debut. The wait would be 117 days, which is even longer than Captain America: Brave New World (103 days), Deadpool & Wolverine (110 days), and The Marvels (92 days).

Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who had previously shown up in various post-credits stings, recruiting villains and anti-heroes. Chris Hemsworth is set to reprise his role as Thor for Avengers: Doomsday, and the actor recently shared a video titled "Thank You! The Legacy of Thor," which ignited speculation that he might be preparing to hang up the hammer for good.
The video featured clips, behind-the-scenes footage, and interview segments from Hemsworth's tenure as the McU's God of Thunder, and included shots from the four solo Thor movies as well as Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
"Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life," Hemsworth captioned his social media post. "For the last 15 years I've held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Earlier this year, Thor star Chris Hemsworth posted a video on social media titled Thank You! The Legacy of Thor, sparking speculation among fans that he was bidding farewell to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After nearly fifteen years in the role, it wouldn’t be surprising if he were ready to hang up Mjolnir, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
While speaking with THR, Hemsworth clarified that the video was not intended to be a preemptive goodbye.
“It was certainly not the intent. To be honest, my social media team assembled some footage and were like, ‘Oh, this could be cool. We’ll put some stuff up and thank the fans.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, cool. It’s been great,’” he explained. “So we penned it together, and off I went to do something else. We are now exactly 500 days away from the release of Avengers: Doomsday, and Daniel Richtman has shared an intriguing update to a rumor he previously posted back in May.
As you may recall, the scooper reported that Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) would actually be part of Sam Wilson's (Anthony Mackie) team in Doomsday. This led to speculation that the Thunderbolts New Avengers may disband, or possibly even get taken off the board early by Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) or some other powerful enemy.
Now, Richtman has clarified that Belova won't be an official member of Captain America's Avengers, and will simply "accompany them when they travel to another universe."
We expected a bit of Multiverse-hopping in this movie, but it is interesting that Yelena is the one to join Wilson's faction of Earth's Mightiest Heroes for their alternate reality mission.

It goes without saying that Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts* made an impression on audiences all over the world. Widely regarded as one of the best movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2019's Avengers: Endgame, it had a lot to live up to when those initial reactions surfaced online, but it had no problem pulling that off, exceeding all expectations - with many calling it one of the best Marvel movies ever made. When you consider its thoughtful approach to mental health and the all-around entertainment value that the film's plot provided fans with, it's easy to see why this nuanced outing became such a fan-favorite.

Netflix has now landed the release of a 2025 Western that’s perfect for Taylor Sheridan fans. Not only does the drama take a similar neo-Western approach that’s been popularized by the Yellowstone creator, but it has also received critical acclaim and finds an MCU star and a Hollywood icon at the forefront.
Released by Sony Pictures back in May, Thunderbolts* star Wyatt Russell takes the lead as a struggling rodeo rider who finds himself fighting for survival after being trapped in a blizzard. Reflecting on his life and whether he made the right decisions, he battles to survive the merciless storm and the dangers it brings in this Western that's a blend of genres and has been praised by both critics and audiences alike.

Absolutely no one should be surprised to hear that Thunderbolts* is another film about broken people who must band together to save the world. That blueprint has been a fixture of pop cinema since at least The Dirty Dozen, and Marvel’s own Guardians of the Galaxy already gave us that formula with more colour, more charm, and arguably more dancing. But what Thunderbolts* manages to do, rather unexpectedly, is mine real emotional depth from a collection of second-stringers: characters largely remembered for filling out supporting casts in previous MCU entries.
Directed by Jake Schreier (Beef), Thunderbolts* brings together Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), along with the addition of Bob (Lewis Pullman), a quietly compelling figure who becomes something of a moral compass. Despite being titled Avengers: Doomsday, the movie could have just as easily gone by "Avengers vs. X-Men." While that crossover event is likely being saved for the post-Secret Wars MCU, the heroes of Earth 616 and Earth 10005 are expected to clash in the 2026 movie.

Ever since Marvel Studios publicly announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, fans have been divided. Many, however, were excited and completely invested in the new direction Marvel seemed to be moving toward after abandoning the Kang Dynasty that they were just starting to build.
Downey's involvement meant Marvel could expand its ever-growing universe even more by introducing different dimensions and timelines on a broader, grander stage (much like what we saw with the introduction of the Tva and Deadpool & Wolverine). As if the title of the movie didn't give it away, Avengers: Doomsday was already looking promising, signaling our heroes would be facing Doctor Doom.

Jake Schreier, the director behind Marvel’s recent film “Thunderbolts*,” is gearing up for a big job: bringing the “X-Men” back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Schreier has quietly built a strong reputation over the years, starting with smaller films like “Robot & Frank” and “Paper Towns.”
But it was his work on the Netflix show “Beef” that really put him on the map. There, he showed he can handle complex emotions and tension, earning a Primetime Emmy nomination for directing. His focus has always been on characters who are struggling and on the edge, and that theme carries over into his work with Marvel.
“Thunderbolts*,” which recently became available to stream, is different from typical superhero team-ups. Instead of just big action scenes, it dives into the emotional struggles of its characters.
The team includes flawed heroes like Florence Pugh’s Yelena, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, and Wyatt Russell’s U.

Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. bid farewell to the MCU and Tony Stark in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. However, he'll return to the franchise as the villainous Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Today, scooper Daniel Richtman brings word that Marvel Studios is currently discussing having Downey continue playing Doom after Avengers: Secret Wars is released at the end of 2027.

Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)
After numerous rumors about his appearance, Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom officially makes his MCU debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. In the mid-credits scene, taking place four years later, fans see Doom crouching in front of Franklin Richards, the son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm.
The character holds his mask in his hand and dons his iconic green cape and hood. However, he faces away from the camera. Marvel has yet to confirm whether Downey Jr. actually made the appearance in the film. Nonetheless, the scene perfectly sets up Avengers: Doomsday.

Thunderbolts* is one of the highest-rated Marvel movies in recent memory, but it still failed to impress at the box office. The star-studded affair features underutilized characters from the MCU, creating an unconventional team-up film that ended with the creation of The New Avengers. Now that Thunderbolts* is now available to watch in the comfort of your own home, the director reflected on the film's rocky road at the box office this year.
During an interview with Variety, Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier was asked about his reaction to the film heading to digital after struggling to turn a profit in theaters. The film, which earned $382 million at the box office, was created and produced on a $180 million budget, with another $100 million spent on marketing. Still, Thunderbolts* is among the best-reviewed MCU films of all time, with an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now tasked with bringing the X-Men back to the big screen,...

Director Jake Schreier has a major Marvel film under his belt, but he’s still not quite sure what to call it.
In the final scene of “Thunderbolts*,” it was finally revealed that the title’s asterisk stands for “The New Avengers,” the group that Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Sentry (Lewis Pullman) reluctantly form, at the behest of the scheming Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).
On the film’s opening weekend, billboards and posters on sites like Fandango were quickly updated to show off the new title – a detail Schreier loves, even if his brain still thinks of the film by its original name.
“In my head, I still think ‘Thunderbolts,’ just because we lived with it for so long. I pushed for and was excited about the switch and the flip of it.

Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor for Avengers: Doomsday, and the actor recently shared a video titled "Thank You! The Legacy of Thor" video, prompting speculation that he might be preparing to hang up the hammer for good after the next big MCU event.
The video, which is actually years old, features clips, behind-the-scenes footage, and interview segments from Hemsworth's tenure as the McU's God of Thunder, and includes shots from the four solo Thor movies as well as Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
"Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life," Hemsworth wrote. Of all the actors announced during the massive Avengers: Doomsday's cast reveal live-stream earlier this year, Alan Cumming might have been the most surprising.
Cumming made his one and only appearance in 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise as Kurt Wagner, aka Nightcrawler, in X2, but declined the studio's offer to reprise the role for the third film because he had no interest in sitting through the arduous makeup process again. Wagner didn't show up in again until Kodi Smit-McPhee took over as a younger take on the character in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Cumming has been happy to chat about his return as Nightcrawler, and may have revealed a little too much about his Doomsday role in a recent interview.
"Right now, I'm doing it again. I'm playing Nightcrawler again and was learning stunts yesterday for some fight scene," said the actor. "I'm sort of learning these fights and I'm like,...

Chris Evans, where art thou? Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently revealed that he believes the actor's absence in Captain America: Brave New World is the main reason why fans didn't go out to see the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie when it was playing in theaters.
Evans played Steve Rogers/Captain America for the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with his final appearance being in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Beginning with the series finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson became the McU's new Captain America, succeeding Wyatt Russell's John Walker, who briefly held the superhero mantle during the events of the 2021 Disney+ limited series. Brave New World marked Mackie's first time leading a Captain America movie as the titular superhero. Unfortunately, given the movie's poor box office performance, it may also be his last.

With the fourth attempt to immortalize Marvel’s First Family on the silver screen and the official launch of the MCU’s Phase Six, The Fantastic Four: First Steps helmer Matt Shakman said the latest entry serves to tee up further exciting releases from the juggernaut studio.
The director spoke to Deadline on the blue carpet for the world premiere of the superhero movie, starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the iconic roles, and how the Russo brothers factored in.
“They were very curious about what we were doing, they came to tour our sets, they would watch scenes that we were cutting together, they wanted to get to know these people as they were working on their story and their script, so that I could pass the baton to them and these characters would be well cared for,” Shakman said of Anthony and Joe Russo,...

It's old news that the Marvel Cinematic Universe ain't what it used to be. Even the common critiques are tired at this point: too many projects, too much "homework," an awkward streaming/film split, etc. -- you've heard it all before. So, apparently, has Kevin Feige, who seems to have no intention of moving on from his post as the head of Marvel Studios. In a recent in-depth interview with various members of the press, Feige discussed the struggles the MCU has faced over the last six years, as well as plans for the future.
The goal for a while now has been lower budgets, fewer projects, and higher quality. That strategy led to one of the franchise's biggest critical successes in years when "Thunderbolts" was released in May. Unfortunately, the box office didn't keep up with the acclaim.

The MCU recently faced a big challenge with the 2025 film Thunderbolts*, which didn’t do as well at the box office as many expected. Despite having a strong cast led by Florence Pugh and positive reviews from critics and fans, the movie struggled to bring in enough money.
As of July 18, 2025, Thunderbolts* made about $382 million worldwide. But according to Variety, it needed to earn at least $425 million just to break even, a goal that now seems out of reach.
Thunderbolts* tells the story of a group of antiheroes forced to work together on a risky mission. The film features an ensemble cast, including Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and it’s the 36th movie in the MCU.
While critics were mostly positive, with Rotten Tomatoes showing an 88% approval rating and audiences giving it an “A–” from CinemaScore, the box office numbers tell a different story.

Directed by James Gunn, Supermancontinues to perform well at the box office, flying past another major superhero release: Thunderbolts*. Released on July 11, Superman stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, among others. Meanwhile, Thunderbolts* released in May, with an ensemble cast of MCU stars such as Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, and David Harbour.
Though Thunderbolts* performed well with critics and among Marvel fans, its overall gross was lower than most of the franchise's films, including Captain America: Brave New World, which was also released this year. Thunderbolts* made $382.1 million globally, with a divide of $189.9 million domestically and $192.1 million internationally.
Likewise, Superman received favorable reviews, though it did have some vocal critics among both those who found its message political and those who were still mourning the Dceu. Nonetheless, it is making waves, with an overall gross of $406.8 million. Notably, its domestic total of $235 million is higher by...

We’re now several months removed from the release of Thunderbolts*, and as fans anxiously await its arrival on Disney+, the director of the film has just shed light on some major behind-the-scenes changes. Jake Schreier, who also recently directed an episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, was tapped to direct Thunderbolts* with a script from Eric Pearson and The Bear’s Joanna Calo. The film was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, and it’s one of the MCU’s biggest events in the Multiverse Saga, bringing together characters from various projects like Black Widow, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
One of the film’s brightest stars is Wyatt Russell, who returns as John Walker after first appearing in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. There was a rumor floating around that the original draft for Thunderbolts* had...

There’s been no shortage of discourse surrounding Thunderbolts* — Marvel’s bold summer team-up that brought together some of the MCU’s most overlooked characters and gave them a spotlight and an existential crisis or two. In a wide-ranging conversation with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, director Jake Schreier opened up about one of the most unexpected core themes of the movie: its unflinching focus on mental health. Asked directly whether there were ever nerves about approaching such delicate material, Schreier was candid in his thoughts.
“I think the only fear was that if we were going to do something like that, it would be really bad that it felt reductive,” Schreier said. "You know what I mean? Just like if we're going to portray something like The Void, if we're going to try to portray something that people really feel and connect with, it would be bad if we were...

The internet does what the internet does — and when Thunderbolts* dropped, fans quickly zeroed in on a certain dynamic: Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Bob Reynolds, aka the Sentry (Lewis Pullman). The emotional connection between the two characters, both haunted by past trauma and struggling with their place in the world, struck a chord. But does that chemistry mean romance? According to director Jake Schreier... not exactly. Speaking with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, Schreier acknowledged the fandom's excitement — and the flurry of “Boblena” edits that have taken over Tumblr and TikTok — but clarified what he and the creative team were actually going for:
“I wasn't surprised. I have seen the Boblena stuff. I think it's really cute. I don't view it as a romantic relationship, personally. But I think we knew that Lewis and Florence having chemistry, regardless of whether that's romantic chemistry or not, that relationship is so central...

The principal cast of Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps have been attending a number of fan-events to promote the MCU reboot over the past week or so, and, as you might expect, they have also been getting some questions about their roles in Avengers: Doomsday.
While being interviewed by BBC News, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing) and Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) were asked to describe the next big MCU event film in four words, and the responses were: "Epic, tragic, intergalactic, starry," and "epic, mental, Robert, Downey and Jr."
Moss-Bachrach's "tragic" is obviously the most interesting adjective here. We have heard that Doomsday will kill off at least one major character, and there have been rumors that the movie will conclude with an Infinity War-style shocker to set up Avengers: Secret Wars.
In a separate interview, Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman) was asked how it felt to be a part of Doomsday's sprawling ensemble cast.

Back then, it was highly believed that superhero movies couldn't get any more ambitious, and while some still hold that thought to this date, Marvel will attempt to outdo itself anyway.
Avengers: Doomsday will mark the beginning of the end of the Multiverse Saga. Heroes we thought were long gone are about to make an explosive comeback, different universes will collide, and Doctor Doom will finally make his long-awaited MCU debut. Fan anticipation is at an all-time high, which means we're all eager to catch a small glimpse of the upcoming crossover. Fortunately, shooting is already underway, and it won't be long before Marvel starts properly promoting the movie. Meanwhile, we have the set photos to look up to.

We finally have a photo from the set of Avengers: Doomsday, and it features a first look at The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach in a motion-capture costume), The Falcon (Danny Ramirez), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Shuri (Letitia Wright).
Wait, Shuri? Yes, look closely at the bottom right-hand side of the photo, and you can see Black Panther's foot. This is a combination of characters we didn't ever really expect to see on screen together, which is arguably the joy of the Avengers franchise.
The next question is, where are they? It looks like a spaceship, and many fans have already theorised that it could be the Fantastic Four's "Excelsior," the craft we saw rocketing towards Earth-616 in Thunderbolts*'s post-credits scene.
Another compelling theory is that this is somewhere inside the Tva; either way, that console looks very retro.

From one of the best movies about the space race in The Right Stuff, to disgusting audiences to wonderful effect in Coralie Fargeat's Oscar-winning The Substance, Dennis Quaid has been involved in many high-rated projects. After his earlier 2025 project alongside Wyatt Russell, Broke, shot to a huge 91% from critics on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, attention has now turned to his second big-screen project of the year: Sovereign.
Set to debut in theaters on July 11, the same day as James Gunn’s Superman, eyes have turned to the early Rotten Tomatoes score of Sovereign to see whether it can keep up with Quaid's strong recent record of well-received projects. Despite receiving just 11 reviews at the time of writing, Sovereign officially has a strong Rotten Tomatoes critics' score of 82%, which, although lower than both Broke and The Substance, still marks Quaid's joint third-best critics' score on the site since all...

Tom Cruise’s magnum opus, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, undoubtedly feels the impact of the multiple new movies at the box office. As a result, it has dropped out of the domestic box office chart. Tom is one of the biggest Hollywood stars, and this is being marketed as the last film in the Mission: Impossible franchise; hence, it keeps minting cash against all odds. Thunderbolts* aka The New Avengers is the 36th film in the MCU and received strong ratings from people. However, it failed to be a box office blockbuster and did not even cross the $400 million mark worldwide. Although Mi 8 has beaten The New Avengers globally, Tom’s film is also losing at the box office.

Pick any one of Steven Spileberg’s best movies and chances are you’ve seen it multiple times. Jurassic Park, Raiders, E.T., Jaws – come on, nobody has seen any of those just once. But if you’re Steven Spielberg himself, he almost never goes back and revisits his movies, although he did find himself making an exception on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Jaws.
At a recent event, Steven Spielberg noted that going back to Jaws after five decades allowed him a unique opportunity in seeing one of his movies as one of us. “I did watch Jaws. I don’t watch my movies, but I was alone, nobody was with me, and I ran a really good print of Jaws on the 20th of June. I wanted to see the movie on the day it originally opened [in 1975] and see if I could get through the movie, get...

Wyatt Russell, who played John Walker in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, recently pushed back against a popular idea that Marvel chose a white actor on purpose to send a racial message in the show.
This idea comes from Wikipedia, which says Marvel wanted a white man to replace Captain America to show that the government didn’t want a Black man like Sam Wilson to have the shield.
Russell called this claim “Wikipedia bull*****.” In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he explained, “He’s a white guy in the comics, and he’s an overzealous war hero turned superhero by the government in the void left by Steve Rogers. And Sam Wilson didn’t want the shield and so they needed somebody to take it.” For him, the casting was simply because John Walker is white in the comics, not because of a political or racial statement.
