Like the movies in this series, we will continue to release fairly regularly and find out what happened to the Saw franchise. Saw V was already planned well before Saw IV even came out as the new creators had a whole storyline that needed multiple movies to pull off. When would the revenue stop coming in for this series? How would they bring back Tobin Bell’s Jigsaw yet again after he had now been dead for a full movie and the timeline had caught up to the present? It’s time to play another game as we find out what happened to Saw V.
After the massive 140-million-dollar success of Saw IV, Saw V would be a similar experience. Why change things around too much if the formula was working so well. It had a similar budget to its predecessor, going from 10 million to 10.8 million and brought back many...

Want to play a game? Try to explain the entire "Saw" universe timeline in chronological order, from 2004's "Saw" through 2023's "Saw X."
The wildly popular and influential horror franchise made its mark with its intense use of gore, the performance of star Tobin Bell, and the many iconic traps that torture its characters. But what it's best remembered for by its dedicated fans is its soap-opera-like overarching storyline, featuring fake-out deaths, secret alliances, and a ton of flashbacks.
The "Saw" franchise timeline is so complicated that there isn't an easy answer to the question of what order someone should watch the movies in, with "Saw X" potentially setting up a secondary timeline of events that will continue to unfold parallel to the first nine films. We've done our best to take all the confusing events of the series and place them in order, revealing the hidden narrative that carries the saga of "Saw.

Phoebe Cates was one of the biggest stars of the 1980s, but as she hasn't appeared in a movie in a long time, fans wonder what happened to her. Cates was launched to stardom as Linda Barrett in the classic high school comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The scene with Linda at the swimming pool, imagined by her best friend Stacy Hamilton’s brother Brad, has become one of the most iconic moments in movie history. Cates continued to appear in movies regularly throughout the rest of the ‘80s and into the ‘90s, but then she stopped starring in films.
It’s been more than two decades since Cates appeared in a movie, and her last appearance before that was almost another decade prior. Aside from a brief voice role in a video game in 2015, Cates hasn’t worked as an actor in years. It’s tough for actors,...

Of all the historic Hollywood horror franchises, one in particular has maintained its relevance better than the rest. While people still remember The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Child's Play, and The Nightmare on Elm Street, they aren't flocking to the theaters year after year to see the new installment. With an entire company of dedicated filmmakers aiding its growth, James Wan and Leigh Whannell's baby is about to reach adulthood. 21 years into the Saw franchise, and the series is as relevant as it has ever been. If the success of the previous installment is any indication, it seems like it won't be stopping anytime soon.
Fresh off the wild success of Saw X, critically and financially, the team at Twisted Pictures hopes to deliver another satisfying entry. The eleventh entry in the Saw franchise, Saw XI, is currently slated for a 2025 release, but what other information about the highly-anticipated sequel is out there?...

John Kramer's identity as Jigsaw was subtly revealed through his drawings before the big twist. Clues like Jigsaw's line about a disease and Zep's behavior hinted at Kramer's identity in Saw. The "x marks the spot" clue and other subtle hints in Saw add excitement to the viewing experience.
Saw has one of the best and most shocking reveals in horror history, but a big part of it was subtly spoiled much earlier, though its very easy to miss. In 2003, James Wan and Leigh Whannell made a short film titled Saw that served as the basis for what would become one of the most profitable and popular horror franchises in recent years. The short film was followed by the feature-length movie Saw, written by Whannell and directed by Wan in his feature directorial debut, which became a critical and commercial success.

Mark Hoffman's traps were more physically taxing and brutal compared to John Kramer's, but John's traps were technically correct and foolproof. John conceived the Jigsaw persona, and many of the traps used by his apprentices were his own conceptions. While Hoffman lasted longer as Jigsaw than John, he ignored John's philosophy and focused on disposing of his enemies rather than redeeming them.
Many have tried, but none have matched the prowess of Saw's original Jigsaw killer, John Kramer. In his years as Jigsaw, John converted many apprentices to work alongside him, studying his philosophy in the hopes that one day, one of them would surpass him to continue his legacy.
In Saw II and Saw III, much of John's work is left in the hands of Amanda Young, a drug addict who survived her trial and worshiped John as a mentor. From Saw IV until his open-ended demise in Saw 3D,...

From the mid to late aughts, October horror was dominated by one word: Saw. In an impressive streak, the grisly franchise celebrated seven straight years with a new entry just in time for Halloween. Though sequels have been sporadic since the 2010 film Saw: The Final Chapter, this autumn brought another tale from Jigsaw’s world of twisted morality and the return of the legendary killer himself. Director Kevin Greutert’s story follows John Kramer (Tobin Bell) on a quest for revenge, but the film also features a fan favorite character and one of the saga’s first survivors. Set between the first and second franchise entries, Saw X sees the return of Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) as an assistant/disciple of the dying murderer. Though her position in Jigsaw’s army would later be usurped by others, Amanda remains the franchise’s most heartbreaking character and the greatest condemnation of Jigsaw’s sociopathy.

Hello, Den of Geek readers. We would like to play a little game.
When James Wan and Leigh Whannell unleashed the first Saw in 2004, you might’ve thought the franchise was all about grisly murders and psychological nonsense. But if you still hold true to that opinion, then you have not been paying attention to the backstory and police procedural that accompanied the carnage. With each entry, the Saw franchise embraced flashbacks, flash-forwards, and flash-sideways, becoming more convoluted than that other 2000s phenomenon, Lost.
And now that Saw X is in theaters, you realize that you don’t understand the story at all. How can there be a 10th movie when John Kramer died in Saw III? Didn’t Jigsaw reboot the series in 2017? Did anyone actually see Spiral: From the Book of Saw?
Den of Geek readers, your attention to the bloody fun parts of Saw has left you unprepared.

Cheerleader Camp (1989)
Directed By: John Quinn
Written By: David Lee Fein, R.L. O’Keiff
Starring: Betsy Russell (Alison), Leif Garrett (Brent), Lucinda Dickey (Cory), Lorrie Griffin (Bonnie), George Buck Flower (Pop), Travis McKenna (Timmy), Teri Weigel (Pamela), Rebecca Ferratti (Theresa Salazar), Vickie Benson (Ms. Tipton), Jeff Prettyman (Sheriff Poucher), Krista Pflanzer (Suzy)
“Cheerleader Camp”, which has the alternate title “Bloody Pompoms”, is much better than some of the later slasher fare I have seen. The slasher boom was in the early 1980s but by the time the late 80s came around it seems the ideas were thin.
“Cheerleader Camp” feels like a strange version of “Friday the 13th” in many aspects. While I do like the movie as a whole, it does have its issues. It could also be that I have a soft spot for slasher films as they were the first...

There are roughly 900,000 tribute pieces online this week about the 1985 John Hughes film "The Breakfast Club," and I understand the motivation. If you were the right age when the film was released (I was 15 at the time), that movie felt like a lightning bolt right to the face. Hughes treated teenagers like they were actual people with complex emotional lives worthy of respect, and while that would seem to be a logical approach to writing about any character, it certainly didn't feel average when he did it. He wrote about that secret world of teenagers with what felt like laser accuracy, and he basically created an entire industry of movies that tried to tap into that same audience. So certainly, there is much to celebrate when looking back at that particular film, but when I went to look at a list of the films that came out in 1985, a year...

Cult movie classic ‘Pretty Poison’ filmmaker Noel Black dead at 77 (photo: Tuesday Weld and Anthony Perkins in ‘Pretty Poison’) Noel Black, best remembered for the 1968 cult movie classic Pretty Poison, died of pneumonia at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on July 5, 2014. Black (born on June 30, 1937, in Chicago) was 77. Prior to Pretty Poison, Noel Black earned praise for the 18-minute short film Skaterdater (1965), the tale of a boy skateboarder who falls for a girl bike rider. Shot on the beaches of Los Angeles County, the dialogue-less Skaterdater went on to win the Palme d’Or for Best Short Film and tied with Orson Welles’ Falstaff - Chimes at Midnight for the Technical Grand Prize at the 1966 Cannes Film Festival. Besides, Skaterdater received an Academy Award nomination in the Best Short Subject, Live Action category. Nude scenes.
Some years ago, Entertainment Weekly did a story about the effect nude scenes had on a generation of young people growing up in the 80s. At its core was the idea that, unlike today, where you can just press a button and see boobs and butts any time you want, it used to be a lot harder to see that most 'holy of holies'.
There was a time when some of the scenes on this list were all that we had! As time has gone on, even with the proliferation of ways to see nudity, a really good nude scene still manages to get our hearts (and other things) racing. Even here in 2013.
So feast your eyes on (maybe not the best, or greatest but...) the Top 30 Most Memorable Nude Scenes in motion picture history over the past couple of decades. Sorry ladies, this list is quite male specific.

Although Saw 3D hinted that the franchise was far from over, Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns recently interviewed with CNBC and revealed that the Saw franchise may indeed be resurrected.
"We have a bunch of franchises, I'm sure some day you'll see Saw back in the picture." the vice chairman said, speaking on the inevitable return of Jigsaw.
Can Lionsgate survive on The Hunger Games , The Expendables and Tyler Perry movies alone? Let's face it. The studio needs Jigsaw.
Saw 3D was released October 29th, 2010 and stars Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Gina Holden, Betsy Russell, Tanedra Howard, Johnny Yong Bosch, Shauna MacDonald, Franky G. The film is directed by Kevin Greutert.
Saw was released October 29th, 2004 and stars Leigh Whannell, Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Ken Leung, Dina Meyer, Mike Butters, Paul Gutrecht, Michael Emerson. The film is directed by James Wan.

Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) You know how you have this sneaking suspicion in the back of your mind about the motives or intentions of a person? Now hasn't that same sneaking suspicion happened to you while watching a horror film? Admit it. Don't kid yourself. You know you have. Maybe Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) wanted her Bff to cancel that date for her in Halloween cause she's secretly a lesbian? Or how about Angela O' Neill in Sorority House Massacre. In an interview I did with her, she stated she refused to get naked for the film, but due to her not getting naked while all the other girls were shucking their clothes in front of her, that certainly created some of that same sex loving tension in the movie. Or you have the movies of late from David DeCoteau with the guys getting down to the briefs or boxer...

“The jungle feeds on the blood of the invaders” is a line from the film Mandrake that pretty much sums up the story and gives you a clear idea of the tone of the movie you’d be sitting through for 90 minutes. If you’re a stoner and came across Mandrake on the tube, you might consider yourself pretty lucky to have the opportunity to view this made-for-tv thriller. But just to make things easy, I’m going to review this for those of you who are considering films to watch while sober and in a relatively normal state of mind. In that case, this movie is probably not for you, because it would be a masochistic act to watch it without being under the influence.
The story follows a group of archeologists, anthropologists and ex-military men who set out into the jungle of South America in search of a five hundred year-old bejeweled dagger.

Original creator Leigh Whannell is open to continuing the franchise down the road, once he dabbles in other genres first
We recently spoke to original Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell about their new haunted house thriller Insidious, which is in theaters this Friday. Of course we had to ask them about the continuation of Saw. This past October, Lionsgate gleefully promised that Saw 3D would be the final film in this lucrative horror series. But as we suspected, that may not be true.
In fact, Leigh Whannell is very open to returning to the Saw franchise somewhere down the road, once he gets a political horror comedy made, and a children's fantasy film off the ground first.
Here is what he had to say.
I know you have been asked this question ten thousand times, but do you guys ever think you will come back to Saw? This...

Mock Syfy's original movies all you want, they still do solid ratings. They're also free to watch. How about paying to watch Syfy monster movies about fairy tale trolls, giant worms, and ancient fiends? Would you feel an April's fool to purchase a quartet of Syfy monsters heading to DVD?
April 5th brings two such creature features that start with the letter B. Behemoth (review here) just premiered on Syfy last month and is fastracking its way to DVD shelves. "Eureka" co-star Ed Quinn contends with a giant monster erupting from a mountain to potentially bring about the end of the world, or so says "X-Files" Cigarette Smoking Man, William B. Davis.

Deon Taylor’s Chain Letter wishes it was everything a horror fan would want in a movie. Good looking teens on the run and looking over their shoulder with every step they take with a crazed mysterious killer chasing after them. Chain Letter has lot’s of blood and gore with inventive kills from a guy who they simply call the Chain Man, but there's not much story to this.
Jessie Campbell (Nikki Reed ) leads the teen charge when they all start receiving a certain chain letter through email, which warns them to not stop the chain letter. When they do stop bad things start to happen.
There are some familiar genre faces in this film including a weird performance by Brad Dourif (Child’s Play) playing school teacher Mr. Smirker and Betsy Russell (Saw The Final Chapter) portraying Sergeant Hamill. There are a few more familiar faces you’ll recognize too.

Saw 3D, Saw The Final Chapter or Saw the Traps Come Alive, whatever the name is, it’s supposed to be the last in the franchise. Jigsaw’s (Tobin Bell) puzzle finally all comes together with his wife Jill (Betsy Russell), Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) and a returning Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes) playing key pieces o this puzzle along with a new piece added, Bobby Dagen (Sean Patrick Flannery).
This installment is a no-holds barred gorefest that doesn’t hold back one bit. Director Kevin Greutert pulls off one of the best entries in this franchise plus he did it in 3D. Writer Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunston once again show why they are the go-to guys when it comes to these movies. The three put together a fun film that’s nothing less than a horror movie lovers new favorite, even if it’s the seventh in the series.

Saw 3D The Final Chapter (Blu-Ray)Lionsgate Home Entertainment2010/90 mins/UnratedList Price $39.99 – Now AvailableThe Saw franchise is actually a guilty pleasure for me, I like these films. Strange, since the first time I saw the original, it didn't click with me. I grew tired of its many subplots and flashbacks plus trying to guess exactly who the Jigsaw killer was. Once his identity was revealed, it gave the brilliant Tobin Bell the opportunity to create one of the most iconic villains in the horror genre. Except when you look at it from a certain point of view, Jigsaw isn't really a villain. He's not a serial killer either, but a scientist and philosopher, hoping to give people a new appreciation for their lives through trials by fire. At least that's how he looks at it. But you have to hand it to Jigsaw. Those few who survive his deadly traps...

Despite having only several titles released this week in our beloved genre, some of them are deemed very worthy of our hard-earned dollars.
While there were strong initial feelings about a Us remake of a damn near perfect foreign film, the end result is hauntingly accessible to fans of both the book as well as its film adaptation, Let the Right One In. How will you feel about it? Decide for yourself this week. Once you're done with your decision making, raise your Hatchets high and get ready to have a bloody good time because the movie they didn't want you to see is finally here! From there after slugging it out in the swamps of Louisiana, get ready to face off against extraterrestrials in Gareth Edwards' Monsters!
So, go forth and bring home these gems. You know how we feel about them.

Chicago – I’m old enough to remember how the “Friday the 13th” series made a promise of “The Final Chapter” after the fourth film only to return with “Friday the 13th: A New Beginning.” Let’s hope that “Saw: The Final Chapter” (also known as “Saw 7” and “Saw 3D”) does not follow the same pattern because this lackluster series truly needs to end now. At least give it a few years for some filmmaker to find what worked about it in the first place (for the record, I think the original “Saw” is a near-great horror flick…but the franchise went 1-for-7 overall) because this final film does not demand a follow-up. Please.
Blu-Ray Rating: 1.0/5.0
The first “Saw” was a conceptually perfect gem in that it kept its plot simple and effective. Conversely, the sequels have become a mess of supporting characters no one gives a damn about and a...

Billed as the final film in the series, Saw 3D is the first of the new decade, and though its hardly worse than the sequels that preceded it, it is looking more and more out of step with the times. Despite its detractors being that much louder than any of its fans, Saw was undeniably the horror franchise most emblematic of the Bush II administration era, in the same way that watching a Nightmare on Elm Street film can’t help but make you think Reagan’s still in office. But whether or not the Saw films will leave the lasting impression that those films remains to be seen, and based on this installment, a more than fair argument could be made that it will not. While the central themes of Saw could scarcely have better embodied the concerns of the last decade, its images and characters haven’t matched it in vitality.
