More than 2,300 members of the Writers Guild of America West and East, including no shortage of heavy hitters, have signed the union’s open letter decrying the Trump administration’s “recent threats to the free press.”

“We are members of the Writers Guild of America who speak with one voice to decry the dangerous and escalating attacks on the First Amendment, independent media, and the free press,” the letter reads in part. “[Trump] regularly calls for the cancellation of news and entertainment television shows that criticize him in late-night and, most recently, The View.”

It ends with the ominous line, “This period in American life will not last forever, and when it’s over the world will remember who had the courage to speak out.” Read the letter and list of signatories in full below.

More than 2,300 members of the Writers Guild of America have signed an open letter decrying recent actions taken by President Trump and his administration that they say represent “an unprecedented, authoritarian assault.”

The WGA East and WGA West union members signing the letter include Spike Lee, Adam McKay, Ilana Glazer, Mike Schur, Liz Merriwether and Tony Gilroy.

The letter cites Trump’s “baseless lawsuits” against news organizations that have “published stories he does not like and leveraged them into payoffs”; for example, it points to Paramount Global’s agreement last month to pay Trump $16 million to settle “a meritless lawsuit” against CBS over a “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris that Trump alleged was deceptively edited. In addition, the letter notes, Trump has “retaliated against publications reporting factually on the White House and threatened broadcasters’ licenses,” and has regularly called for the cancelation of news and entertainment TV shows that criticize him.

By the time The Night Agent Season 2 had ended, Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) had saved the world, but it had come at a price. It's been a while since we had an update to share about The Night Agent season 3 as the upcoming season remained in production for much of the year, but we finally have some news directly from the creator himself. Peter Sutherland's next mission just got one step closer to hitting our screens as the third season officially hit the filming milestone that fans have been waiting for.

On July 14, The Night Agent creator Shawn Ryan revealed on social media that season has "officially wrapped production." Filming on the forthcoming third season began back in February 2025 before season 2 had even been released on Netflix. Because the shoot took the cast and crew to so many different locations, filming lasted through half of the year, but it's finally completed.

On Wednesday, the Golden Globes released the eligibility rules for the new Best Podcast Award category. The goal of the honor is to celebrate excellence in podcasting by recognizing their "quality, creativity, audience engagement, and impact," but which famous podcasters might be in contention for the prize?

Only those that appear on a curated list of the "Top 25 Podcasts," as determined by Luminate, will be eligible to compete. The company will use a "proprietary methodology designed to objectively evaluate podcasts," based on the following key metrics: audience reach/engagement, financial metrics, and platform visibility/market presence. Nothing in the rules states that eligible podcasts have to be entertainment-related.

Once the 25 podcasts have been determined by Luminate, it's then up to those producers or distributors to submit their podcasts for consideration at the Golden Globes. Those who choose not to submit between the Oct. 1 and Oct. 31 submissions period will not be eligible.

Now four seasons in, Prime Video’s The Boys has solidified itself as a favorite among audiences and critics alike. During its run on Amazon’s streamer, the title has nabbed eight Emmy Award nominations and has taken home trophies from the Critics’ Choice Super Awards and the Astra TV Awards. Yet, at the beginning of it all, series creator Eric Kripke found himself struggling to get the studio to understand the over-the-top, dark, and often incredibly gross yet comedic vision that has now become synonymous with the production. But luckily, no matter what notes he received, he always stuck to his guns when it mattered, as he revealed to his fellow industry professional, Shawn Ryan, during a recent episode of Sony’s podcast, Creator to Creator.

Prime Video's superhero TV series The Boysis nearing its conclusion with the current development of its fifth and final season. Details remain under wraps, and while some have teased an epic finale, most fans remain in the dark about what could happen during the final showdown between the Boys and the Supes. Naturally, showrunner Eric Kripke has all the answers, but even holding all the narrative power in his hands can't stop him from being afraid of ending the show: "I am in a fair amount of terror."

Kripke chatted with Shawn Ryan (The Night Agent) on the Creator to Creator podcast, produced by Sony. During the episode, he talked about The Boys' final season, which is probably arriving on streaming some time in 2026. While he remained vague about plot details, his comments imply that things will get messy.

Kripke has previously mentioned that some characters will die in Season 5, teasing a brutal confrontation.

During its four — soon(ish) to be five — seasons on Prime Video, The Boys has gone above and beyond the call of providing jaw-dropping moments. Dave Mustaine has once again asserted that Metallica stole their most famous riff from a song by another band.

In a new interview on “The Shawn Ryan Show,” Mustaine accused his former band of lifting the “Enter Sandman” riff from crossover thrash band Excel and their 1989 song “Tapping Into the Emotional Void.”

Comparisons between the songs have been made over the years — even by Mustaine himself some 20 years ago — and members of Excel once considered taking legal action against Metallica, per a report in 2003. The riffs do bare similarities, as does the tom-drum buildup in both songs, and Mustaine felt the need to remind people when he began discussing Metallica in the interview.

“I made sure not to ever say that I quit, because I wanted people to know that I was unfairly dismissed and that I didn’t give a shit,” the Megadeth mastermind said of his tenure with Metallica.

Mere days after the S.W.A.T. series finale aired on May 16, it was announced that Sony Pictures Television, which produces the action drama, was moving forward with the spinoff S.W.A.T. Exiles. S.W.A.T. fans have been on an emotional rollercoaster over the past two years, mourning the series’ cancellation and rejoicing in its subsequent resurrection — three times each.

Like the action drama’s first two comebacks at CBS — its surprising cancellation reversal in 2023 and equally surprising 2024 Season 8 renewal after Season 7 had been billed as final — the most recent one was a cause for celebration, at least at the beginning.

And like the previous two saves, that last one also came as a surprise, two and a half months after S.W.A.T.’s latest (and permanent) cancellation by CBS and only 3 days after its series finale aired on the broadcast network. On Sunday night, S.W.A.T. studio Sony Pictures Television announced that it was extending the franchise with a spinoff series, S.W.A.T. Exiles, headlined by original series’ star Shemar Moore reprising his character as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson.

CBS’s action drama series S.W.A.T. has been kicking doors down since 2017. The show was the reboot of the 1975 TV series. It followed Shemar Moore’s Sergeant Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson and his team of LAPD officers and gave us eight seasons full of action and social commentary. But even though the show was a success, it had its own challenges.

S.W.A.T. has been cancelled many times before, and it was the fans’ love that kept bringing it back again and again. But now, the series marked its end with Season 8. The action-packed series, led by the ever-charismatic Shemar Moore, concluded its final mission on May 16, 2025, bringing an end to an eight-season journey that beat the odds more than once.

From its premiere in 2017, S.W.A.T. carved its own lane in the crowded world of cop dramas, reinventing the 1970s classic with a modern edge and a deeply diverse cast. Fans gravitated toward Moore’s portrayal of Sgt. Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson—a leader caught between duty and justice in a city that rarely made things easy. Alongside him were Jay Harrington, Alex Russell, David Lim, and others who gave heart and heat to the streets of Los Angeles.

Come to think of it, Shemar Moore did seem uncharacteristically subdued on social media after the May 16 series finale of S.W.A.T.

For years, Spotify and Apple have published their own charts showing best-performing podcasts. As a result, when new podcasts debut or older podcasts see a notable spike in listenership, those companies are often cited in articles, simply because they’re the ones providing the data.

YouTube, it seems, is no longer willing to be left out–especially with 1 billion people listening to podcast content on its platform each month.

This morning, as a followup to its annual Brandcast presentation, it revealed the launch of its own weekly podcast charts.

Called Weekly Top Podcast Shows, the chart will update each Wednesday, showing the top 100 podcasts on YouTube by U.S. watch time.

Unsurprisingly, YouTube’s first chart showed The Joe Rogan Experience is its #1 podcast, followed by Kill Tony, Rotten Mango, 48 Hours, The MeidasTouch Podcast, and H3 Show. (More below.)

The Recruit and The Night Agent are two action-packed Netflix shows that share many similarities in the themes they explore and their settings. The Recruit follows Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo), a CIA lawyer, while The Night Agent follows Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), an FBI agent. The shows were released around the same time and overlapped while in development to the point where The Recruit had to change its title. Other characters in the show regularly call Owen the Chaos Agent, and series creator Alexi Hawley revealed to Deadline that the show was to be called The Chaos Agent. We're about to be seeing a lot more of a breakout star from Netflix's The Night Agent on one of the most recent new hit streaming series. After giving an excellent performance as Noor in the second season of the fan-favorite spy thriller, Arienne Mandi will now take her talents over to Apple TV+ to appear in the second season of Jon Hamm's comedy-drama Your Friends and Neighbors.

Deadline reported on May 6 that Mandi joined Your Friends and Neighbors season 2 in a recurring role along with two additional new additions to the show's supporting roster. Erin Robinson and Bre Blair are also on board for recurring roles. The trio's character names and descriptions aren't readily available so we don't know quite yet how these new characters play into Coop's story.

The 2017 action-drama S.W.A.T. has been canceled for the third and possibly final time. With the series finale just a few weeks away, TVLine, unfortunately, confirms that former cast members will not be making a return for the series send-off.
