The dance expert, who served as head judge on the hit BBC series from its launch in 2004 until 2016, had recently been admitted to a hospice in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, following a short illness. He is reported to have been diagnosed with bone cancer.

Tributes have poured in for Goodman after his agent announced the star’s death, stating: “It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78.

“A much loved husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.”

As well as Strictly, Goodman was a judge on Dancing with the Stars, the US version of the competition from 2005 to 2022. He was replaced on Strictly after his 2016 departure by Shirley Ballas.

Filmed last year, the all-stars series will see the former campmates jetting off to South Africa – rather than the usual Australian location – for a series that promises to be “even bigger and tougher” than ever.

Among the initial line-up of returning contestants is Carol Vorderman, the former Countdown co-host and TV personality.

The 62-year-old first appeared on the 16th series of I’m a Celebrity in 2016 alongside Scarlett Moffatt and Joel Dommett. She came in eighth place.

Paul Ryder, the founding bassist of the “Madchester” band Happy Mondays, died at the age of 58.

Paul’s brother Shaun Ryder, the group’s lead singer, announced the bassist’s death Friday on social media. No cause of death was provided.

Jack O’Connell is in advanced negotiations to star in a music biopic called “Twisting My Melon” about the life of Shaun Ryder, the frontman of the British band Happy Mondays, Agc Studios chairman and CEO Stuart Ford announced on Friday.

O’Connell would star with Jason Isaacs, Holliday Grainger and Maxine Peake in the film that will be fully financed and co-produced by Agc Studios. Isaacs will play Ryder’s father and fellow musician Derek Ryder, Peake will play his mother, and Grainger would star as Ryder’s girlfriend. Production on the film is slated to begin in January 2020. Jack O’Connell is set to play Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder in new biopic Twisting My Melon.

The film, based on Ryder’s autobiography, will track the singer’s journey from a guitar-loving child to a leading light of Madchester’s party scene. Fans of the TV show Skins will know that O’Connell is comfortable in a rave setting, having already starred as rebel hedonist Cook in his breakout TV role.
