The world has gone through a lot since HBO‘s Aaron Sorkin drama The Newsroom aired, and as we head into an election season and the show’s 10th anniversary since the final season, there’s no better time to look back at the show which put journalism under a microscope. “I can’t believe that it’s been 10 years. I also feel like it was way ahead of its time,” remarks star Thomas Sadoski, who TV Insider caught up with to discuss his ongoing role in American Sports Story. “I feel like it was an important show.” For those who may need a refresher, The Newsroom followed the team behind Atlantic Cable News (Acn), a fictional news station akin to network news like NBC or ABC. Among the ensemble cast led by Jeff Daniels who played lead anchor Will McAvoy, Sadoski portrayed executive producer Don Keefer. HBO One thing...

FX is diving into the brutal and complex story of Aaron Hernandez with the first trailer for “American Sports Story.” The limited series will premiere on FX on Sept. 17 and will be available to stream on Hulu.
“You don’t know the kind of thoughts I had,” Josh Andrés Rivera as Hernandez says in this first trailer. The clip then flashes between scenes of Aaron loading a gun, running down the football field and smoking in a dark club. “It’s like a demon. What if God made me this way?”
The rest of the trailer snaps between these two extremes. One moment, it shows Aaron playing football with the crowd roaring in his ears. The next, he’s brandishing a gun or hanging out in a sleazy house. No matter what the trailer shows, the same ominous ticking can be heard in the background.

Being all things to all people is impossible. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to live up to people’s expectations, your efforts find a way of sabotaging your best intentions from the inside out. In the case of Aaron Hernandez, the gridiron warrior learns the hard way that football dreams and crime don’t mix. FX’s American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez trailer digs deep into the athlete’s downfall for a cautionary tale about expectations, drugs, and throwing it all away.

Several human rights organizations have called the war-caused levels of famine and illness in Yemen the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. Why, then, is the suffering of the country and its people so rarely discussed in America?
Thomas Sadoski, the actor best known for starring as Don Keefer in Aaron Sorkin’s “The Newsroom,” has a few ideas about that.
“I became aware of what was going on in Yemen shortly after the most recent Civil War began back in 2014,” he says. “And as the humanitarian crisis continued to get worse and worse, I saw it move further and further towards back pages of the newspaper, if at all mentioned. There were only a small handful of journalists who were even talking about it — largely because a lot of people couldn’t get access. I, for whatever reason, was able to get that access.”

What restricts and ultimately fells “The Crowded Room” isn’t just one poor decision. Far too long and visually repetitive, the 10-episode limited series starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried doesn’t have the dramatic heft needed to justify its length, nor is its narrative crafted carefully enough to build proper momentum. Holland’s lead performance is solid, though irreparably hampered by the story’s structure, and Seyfried’s is a tad sharper, though that could be because she’s able to do more with less. Its message — which I can’t even get into for reasons I’ll divulge shortly — is significant and stirring, which makes you wish how it’s conveyed was that much stronger.
But there is a key creative decision that connects all these hang-ups; a choice so frustrating before it’s understood and exasperating once it’s explained that you can’t help but wish...

The opening minutes of Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room suggest a thriller.
In 1979 New York, a disturbed young man, Danny (Tom Holland), and his agitated companion, Ariana (Sasha Lane), open fire near Rockefeller Center. When only Thomas is captured — Ariana having disappeared without a trace — the cop in charge of his case (Thomas Sadoski) practically salivates at the idea that they might have nailed a serial killer.
But his colleague, Rya (Amanda Seyfried), isn’t so sure. Over long conversations with Danny, now in prison awaiting his trial date, she begins to weave together a picture of his life — how he got to where he is, why he did what he did. As his truth is revealed, The Crowded Room pivots from gritty crime drama to something altogether sadder and more sentimental, with unfortunately mixed results.
Part of the issue is simply that The Crowded Room, created by Akiva Goldsman,...

Emmy Rossum and Tom Holland play mother-son in Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room. The Shameless alum is opening up about being cast in the role while only being 10 years older than the Super-Man star.
“It makes sense when I read the script,” Rossum told Entertainment Tonight. “Candy’s a super young mom, she’s almost a child in her own right when she becomes pregnant at age 16. You watch as I age from 25 to 35, which is actually younger than I am now.”
Rossum is 36 years old while Holland is 27 in real life. One thing that drew Rossum to playing the role of Candy was “the relationship between mother and son and the closeness and everything that they’re grieving in later episodes.”

Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski are a dynamic duo. On June 1, the couple stepped out for the NYC premiere of "The Crowded Room," holding hands as they graced the red carpet together. The upcoming Apple TV+ drama stars Seyfried as Rya Goodwin, an interrogator determined to unravel the case of Danny Sullivan (Tom Holland), who is facing trial for a shooting. Sadoski, an actor in his own right, showed support for his wife at the event, smiling and interlocking arms as they walked around Midtown before the premiere.
Seyfried and Sadoski initially met on set of the off-Broadway show "The Way We Get By" in 2015, sparking dating rumors in March 2016 after they were photographed on a date in LA. Tom Holland’s mind holds a secret that Amanda Seyfried tries to unlock in the first trailer for The Crowded Room, a new psychological thriller series hitting Apple TV in June.
The 10-episode series focuses on Holland’s Danny Sullivan, who is tied to a series of crimes and shootings in 1979 New York City, even though he has no memory (or “blank spots”) of the incidents. It’s up to Seyfried’s interrogator to solve the mystery before Sullivan is convicted of a crime he potentially (or at least didn’t intentionally) commit.

Is it just me or this room feeling a little ... crowded? Thankfully, that's not a line of dialogue ever spoken in the trailer for this upcoming Apple TV+ series, but it certainly could apply to the long-winded development of this project. Originally conceived as a James Cameron movie with John Cusack rumored to be in the lead back in the 1990s before Leonardo DiCaprio took a short-lived swing at it in 2015, "The Crowded Room" is now finally coming to a small screen near you as an Apple TV+ drama series. In place of Cusack or DiCaprio, however, viewers will now get to see a mop-haired Tom Holland in the lead role as the prime suspect of a series of disappearances.

Tom Holland’s first go around with Apple didn’t go so great, but two years after “Cherry,” the Spider-Man star is hoping to make a triumphant return to the streamer. “The Crowded Room,” a drama series starring Holland in his first lead television role, will premiere on Apple TV+ on June 9.

The show differs from its source material by following the fictional Danny Sullivan (played by Holland), who is arrested in 1979 for his involvement in a New York City shooting. As Rya Goodwin interviews Danny,...
