10 Hollywood Actors Who Had Their Breakthrough In A Martin Scorsese Movie
Image
Martin Scorsese has directed some of the greatest films of all time and served as the catalyst for countless astounding acting careers. While viewers will be well aware of Scorsese’s incredible collaborations with actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, this barely scratches the surface when it comes to the litany of famous names who have performed across the vast spectrum of his filmography. While Scorsese has worked with many established stars, he’s never shied away from taking a chance on an unknown and giving them their big break.

Several of Scorsese’s best films boasted breakout performances from actors who went on to become major names in Hollywood. From child stars like Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver right through to those who came to acting much later, such as Joe Pesci in Raging Bull, it was Scorsese’s unmatched direction that helped them carve out their...

'What a Lovely, Lovely Man': Lori Loughlin Recalls Working With Keanu Reeves on 80s Movie
Image
Full House star Lori Loughlin says that all of the wonderful things that people have heard about Keanu Reeves are true. She can personally recall just how "lovely" he'd been with her on the set of the movie they shot together more than three decades ago.

In 1988, Loughlin and Reeves co-starred in the movie The Night Before. The dark comedy film follows Reeves as a nerdy character taking a popular high school girl (Loughlin) to prom after she loses a bet, only to wake up to discover her missing with no memories of the night before. Recently, the film was brought up by Loughlin when she appeared on the How Rude, Tanneritos! podcast with her former co-stars Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber. After Loughlin spoke about how much "fun" that film was to make, Sweetin expressed her surprise over Reeves' casting.

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From Raging Bull
Image
"Raging Bull" knocked audiences flat on their backs when it premiered over four decades ago. The boxing biography, which is still considered among director Martin Scorsese's best films, unfolds as a rags-to-riches-to-rags story about a brutal middleweight fighter whose personal life never quite matches up to his success in the ring. Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Cathy Moriarty headlined the film's wildly talented ensemble, while late "Cheers" star Tommy Como played a local mobster and actress Theresa Saldana, who passed away in 2016, played protagonist Jake's second wife Lenora.

While time has taken some of these talented actors away from us, and the real Jake Lamotta died in 2017, each member of the "Raging Bull" core trio is still acting today. To present a "where are they now" about an actor as famous and prolific as De Niro would be silly, but if you're looking for another great De Niro...

25 tragic deaths of actresses: Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Carrie Fisher and more
Image
In Hollywood’s long and illustrious history, thousands of young starlets have arrived with big dreams and plans. Some make it, establishing successful careers that last so long we’re duped into believing they’ll be with us forever. Who didn’t believe Betty White would make it to 100? How many of us were stunned when she died 18 days before that landmark birthday? Sadly, some don’t get that many years, and stun the world when they die suddenly at the height of their fame. Then there are those who die young and tragically when their careers have just begun, and are remembered more for their manners of death than their work. In more than 100 years of Hollywood history, there have been several deaths that have made the headlines.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand
Manhattan goes nuts as thousands of Beatles fans arrive to celebrate the arrival of the Mop Tops from Liverpool. Experts at wringing manic fun from crazy chaotic farces, Bob Zemeckis and Bob Gale’s first film to hit the screen is still one of their best, due to its brilliant craft and a fresh-faced cast of relative newcomers that deliver old-fashioned enthusiasm and big-time laughs. Not since the Marx Brothers have hotel corridors and backstage shenanigans added up to so much mirth. The image of Beatlemania at full flower is dead-on accurate, and more nostalgic than a bag of Beatle wigs.

Insights: Will Christina Grimmie’s Murder Ruin The Fan Bond That Built the Creator Community?
In 1982, an actress named Theresa Saldana nearly died when an obsessed fan attacked her with a knife outside her apartment. She survived but took four months to recover. Seven years later, Rebecca Schaeffer wasn’t as fortunate. Another obsessive fan shot her to death in the doorway of her apartment complex.

Those two West Hollywood tragedies pushed the California Legislature to enact the nation’s first anti-stalking laws. They also forced film and TV performers and their handlers to reconsider how they interacted with the public. The result for many stars: though they were safer, they also were more insulated from fans, reclusive, and walled off.

Now, in the wake of Christina Grimmie’s June 11 murder, online stars who weren’t even alive when Schaeffer died face an almost existential question. How can they protect themselves while still maintaining and building their most valuable resource: a direct relationship with their ardent fans?...

Blu-Ray Review: Raging Bull 30th Anniversary Edition – What Classics Should Aspire To
Hard to believe that it has been 30 years since Robert De Niro pulled the original Christian Bale method-acting-insanity trick and hung the health consequences to balloon in weight for the role of Jake ‘The Bronx Bull’ La Motta. But blu-ray boxes don’t lie (pffft!), and this week’s 30th Anniversary Special Edition Blu-Ray is pretty firm evidence.

But, can we start with the cover? The film features some of the most iconic images in cinematic history- one of which the Special Edition DVD cover took advantage of to such success- and yet this celebratory edition features a bloated close-up image that looks more like a bad wax-work of Sylvester Stallone. Bad decision.

For anyone who doesn’t know the story, Raging Bull is effectively the filmic counter-point to films like The Wrestler and The Fighter. While they purport to be about complex humanist stories of redemption, they simply cannot...

The Commish: Win The First Season of the Michael Chiklis Series on DVD
Years before we knew Michael Chiklis as tough-as-nails Vic Mackey on The Shield, he starred in a very different cop series for ABC.

The Commish revolves around a no-nonsense police commissioner named Tony Scali (Chiklis). A former Brooklyn cop, he's respected by his officers and the small-town community of Eastbridge for his unorthodox methods. Even more important than his job though is his family at home. The series also features Theresa Saldana, Kaj-Erik Eriksen, John Cygan, Melinda McGraw, Geoffrey Nauffts, Nicholas Lea, Gina Belafonte, and David Paymer.

The ABC drama ran for five seasons and 94 episodes, from 1991 until 1996. Interestingly, the show spent its run between Thursday and Saturday nights -- the most-watched and least-watched nights of television today.

The Commish: The Complete First Season has just been released on DVD and the set includes all 21 episodes as...
