Regular Show’s Reboot Can Finally Solve The Cartoon Network Series’ Biggest Mystery 15 Years Later
Image
Regular Show’s revival is the perfect opportunity for us to learn more about High Five Ghost, a character that did not get to shine much in the original series. While a new Regular Show was revealed to be in the works in June 2024 (via Variety), not much is known about the project yet. Recently, Regular Show’s new series was rumored to be called Regular Show: The Lost Tapes. If that is indeed the title of the revival, Regular Show’s return could actually be an anthology featuring “untold stories” set during the series’ original run.

A Regular Show anthology would work perfectly considering that most episodes of the original series were standalone adventures. Apart from a few arcs, especially the ones involving Pops in the final two seasons, Regular Show was never worried about continuity and having overarching stories. This allowed the Cartoon Network hit series to play...

In an era where streaming reigns supreme and physical media feels increasingly like an afterthought, the announcement of a comprehensive DVD release for a surreal, cult-classic Cartoon Network series has collectors and fans abuzz. To their pleasant surprise, Warner Bros. Discovery and Cartoon Network unveiled plans for a Regular Show: The Complete Series DVD box set for early 2025 (per Awn). The sprawling edition is the series' first remastering and physical minting since going off-air in 2017, and it will be released on Feb. 4, 2025.

Clocking in at over 50 hours, the collector's DVD set contains each of the 245 episodes of creator Jg Quintel's quirky animated series. But that's not all: the 2015 Regular Show Movie will also be featured, alongside a bevy of special features. The Regular Show: The Complete Series drop is a welcome surprise for fans and traditionalists. The show ended in 2017— a physical set like this, in today's age, is uncommon,...

Regular Show Voice Cast & Character Guide
Image
Regular Show ran for seven years on Cartoon Network, beloved for its wacky humor and an all-star cast. The very episodic structure of several of Cartoon Network's best TV shows recalls the nature of a classic Saturday morning cartoon, Regular Show being a perfect example. Its 244 episodes cover a series of the absurd adventures of a talking raccoon and blue jay, with wonderfully strange world-building that makes it an amazing watch that can be enjoyed in a short format.

Regular Show is also getting a highly anticipated revival which will feature at least a few members of the original cast. Many members of the prominent Regular Show main cast are noteworthy animators and storyboarders, their responsibilities on the show encompassing multiple characters and jobs. Spearheaded by a now-iconic CalArts graduate who brought some talented friends and collaborators along, Regular Show only achieved its popularity and substantial run because of its unique cast and crew.

Before Colin Farrell took on the role of Gotham’s birdman in The Batman (2022) and The Penguin, several other actors had taken up the mantle of one of the most famous of the caped crusaders’ nemeses.

Burgess Meredith, Danny DeVito and Robin Lord Taylor all played live action versions of Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, as The Penguin is also known, and many animated iterations of him exist as well. Several voice actors like Tom Kenny, Dana Snyder, William Salyers and more brought the various cartoon Penguins to life in many series from Warner Bros. Animation as well as others. There was not a Penguin in the latest The Lego Batman Movie (2017), but one can be seen in the 2013 Lego film.

Review: Batman: The Doom that Came to Gotham
Image
The latest Warner Animated DC feature film adapts the 2000-2001 Elseworlds miniseries Batman: The Doom that Came to Gotham. The fun of the Elseworlds comics, and soon the live-action versions under the new artistic regime, is taking the familiar and imagining them in other times and other places. Here, we do back to the early 20th century and overlay it with a dose of Loftcraftian horror.

Cowritten by Mike Mignola and Richard Pace, two men better known for their artistic skills, this story was designed for visual impact, something Troy Nixey did well in print, and the animators from Jase Ricci’s script and co-directed by Sam Liu and Christopher Berkeley, replicate nicely.

Basically, an arctic expedition headed by Bruce Wayne (David Giuntoli), sent to check on a previous team led by Professor Oswald Cobblepot (William Salyers) reveals horrors and a missing professor. The only surviving is Grendon (David Dastmalchian...

Features the voices of: David Giuntoli, William Salyers, David Dastmalchian, Emily O’Brien, Navid Negahban, Patrick Fabian, Jason Marsden, Jeffrey Combs, Christopher Gorham, Gideon Adlon | Written by Jase Ricci | Directed by Christopher Berkeley, Sam Lui

Based on a 2001 three-issue comic book miniseries written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Richard Pace, Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham is an alternate-world tale that introduced an alternate version of Bruce Wayne and the residents of Gotham to Lovecraftian horrors. It’s the most overtly horrific entry in the animated Batman franchise as well as the strangest.

In the 1920s an expedition led by Bruce Wayne arrives in Antarctica looking for another expedition, this one led by Professor Cobblepot. What he finds instead are mutated creatures and the professor’s undead assistant Grendon whom he brings back to Gotham.

This sets into motion a plot by Talia al Ghul to bring back Ra...

Review: Superman: Red Son
Mark Millar
The best of DC Comics’ Elseworlds stories where when the writers challenged the conventional wisdom, upending how we envisioned our heroes. Among the more celebrated of these stories was Mark Millar and Dave Johnson’s Superman: Red Son, imagining the Kryptonian rocket ship landing in Soviet Russia, not Kansas.

It has long been on people’s wish list for adaptation as either a live-action or animated feature. Those wishes have finally been granted in one of Warner Animation’s more successful adaptations. The film is out now from Warner Home Entertainment in all the usual formats including the popular 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD combo.

Superman (Jason Isaacs) arrives in the late 1930s and by the time his powers begin to manifest with his adolescence, we’re on the tail end of World War II and the arrival of Joseph Stalin’s (William Salyers) Iron Curtain. With a super-powered loyalist,...

Superman: Red Son Trailer Animates the Iconic DC Comics Story
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Superman: Red Son. This serves as an animated adaptation of Mark Millar's famous 2003 Elseworlds tale that paints the hero we all know in a very different light. Instead of growing up in Kansas, what if Kal-El had grown up in the Soviet Union? As we can see from this trailer, the answer to that question is one that completely recontextualizes the famed DC hero and puts him at the center of a world war. Instead of being a symbol of hope, he's a symbol of fear.

The trailer opens up by turning a classic Superman bit on its head. We see the Soviet version of the hero flying from the sky and a woman down below says, "Look! Up in the sky!" Yet, instead of sounding enthused or curious, she sounds terrified. We then see the world discovering who this mysterious...

Here’s Your First Look At Batman In Superman: Red Son Animated Movie
Now that Batman: Gotham by Gaslight has opened the door for various other Elseworlds tales to be adapted as animated films, Superman: Red Son will be the first to follow in its footsteps. To be quite honest, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise because the limited series written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Dave Johnson has long remained one of the most popular in the line, not to mention DC fans demanding this become a reality for years.

To briefly sum up what that story entailed for those unfamiliar, what you need to know going into your first viewing of the animated flick is that it explored that possibility of baby Kal-El’s rocket landing in Soviet Russia instead of in Smallville, Kansas. As you can imagine, the Comrade of Steel had a very different upbringing than the hero we’ve come to know otherwise.

Superman: Red Son is the next iconic DC Comics story to get the animated feature treatment, and it's coming very, very soon!

Indeed, the 2003 comic miniseries from Mark Millar, Dave Johnson, and Killian Plunkett, which might just be the best known Elseworlds tale ever, is set land its animated movie in February, 2020.

Review: Gotham by Gaslight
The notion of placing Batman in other times and places seems so obvious now, but when Brian Augustyn first hatched the notion with Mark Waid, it was radical. As Augustyn recounts on the 21 minute Caped Fear: The First Elseworld featurette, it was immediately embraced. So enticing was the concept that when artist Mike Mignola first heard about it, he kept saying he had no time but then kept contributing ideas that it was clear he’d make the time.

Gotham by Gaslight pitted an 1889 Dark Knight against Jack the Ripper, come to Gotham City. It was moody, atmospheric, and somber, a perfect Victorian take on the crimefighter. As a result, it ignited imitators, prompting DC Comics to finally invent the Elseworlds imprint and inspired Augustyn to write a sequel, Master of the Future, set three years later as Gotham hosted the American Discovery Exposition.

It was only a matter of...

Watch Selina Kyle Face off with Jack the Ripper in ‘Batman: Gotham By Gaslight’
Continuing our coverage on the upcoming DC Animation Batman: Gotham By Gaslight, we have a new clip! In this clip Selina Kyle gets stalked by the infamous serial killer, Jack the Ripper. Is Selina Kyle prey or predator? You be the judge.

By the cover photo (provided by Warner Bros.) it looks like Selina Kyle is either luring Jack the Ripper into a trap or that she just got to a point to where she knew she would have to fight back. It’s obviously from the same scene because the pig carcasses hanging from the ceiling match up with ones in the clip. We all know Selina wouldn’t go out with out a fight.

Batman: Gotham By Gaslight takes place at the turn of the century as America’s continued industrial revolution is to be showcased at a World’s Fair hosted by Gotham City. But while the...

Batman Vs. Two-Face Release Date Confirmed, Bonus Features Revealed
Last year, Warner Bros. treated us with the awesome Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, which saw the likes of Adam West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar reprise their roles of Batman, Robin and Catwoman, respectively. Being essentially the beginning to a fourth season we never received, it surpassed expectations by retaining the feel of the classic 1960’s television series, while also featuring grandiose action scenes that could’ve never been accomplished on the budget of the show.

Having said that, we’re thrilled to see that its sequel, Batman vs. Two-Face, looks like it may be even better. In addition to the return of the aforementioned actors, expect William Shatner to lend his pipes to the dichotomous Harvey Dent, a character who never actually appeared on the TV show itself during its original run.

As for the rest of the major players, here goes: Jeff Bergman (Joker, Bookworm, Desmond Dumas), Sirena Irwin (Dr.

Adam West at an event for Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt (2003)
Earlier this week, we reported that Los Angles mayor Eric Garcetti and police chief Charlie Beck will light the iconic Bat-Signal on the Los Angeles City Hall, in honor of the late great Adam West, who passed away last week at the age of 88, after a long battle with leukemia. In case you couldn't make it to downtown Los Angeles last night, we have a new video of the Bat-Signal being lit, along with excerpts from the speeches given by Eric Garcetti, Charlie Beck and surprise guest Burt Ward, who played Robin in the original Batman TV series alongside Adam West. We have photos from the event as well. Here's what Burt Ward had to say in his speech.

"My friend Adam would want every single one of you to be incredibly happy, and to be joyous, because he spent his entire life as a performer, making people happy, making them laugh,...

Review: Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders
When Batman debuted on ABC in 1966, I was not yet eight years old, a prime target for this pop-art event. I was already a diehard comic book fan and couldn’t contain my excitement at seeing the heroes and villains come off the four-color pages and onto our then-new color TV. I was very excited and had no clue just how campy it was. That came later as the reruns began on Wpix and throughout the 1970s.

The Batman phenomenon has proven incredibly influential on several generations of comic book fans, professional writers, artists, and animators, and beyond. Thankfully, whatever legal entanglements there were between Greenway Productions, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Bros got ironed out, allowing a new generation of fans to glory in what is now known as Batman ’66. The latest offering is the direct-to-dvd animated feature Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, starring the voices of Adam West,...

Meet the Fearsome Foursome who Challenge the Caped Crusaders
The spotlight shines on far more than the core trio of iconic stars of Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. Adam West (Batman), Burt Ward (Robin) and Julie Newmar (Catwoman) own top billing, but Weber (Wings, iZombie, NCIS: New Orleans) and Lennon (The Odd Couple, Reno 911!) – as trustworthy butler Alfred Pennyworth and Chief O’Hara, respectively – headline an impressive array of actors who were excited to give voice to a role in a Batman film.

In addition to Weber and Lennon, the cast includes:

Jeff Bergman as the Joker and the revered Announcer. Bergman is well known as a voice of Bugs Bunny for more than a quarter of a century...

Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders Reveals Voice Cast And New Images
Believe it or not, we’re about to receive our fourth animated movie headlined by a certain masked hero this year when Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders arrives this fall. The difference, of course, being that this one continues the proud legacy of the television series from the 1960’s, which happens to be celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Although it has been known for some time that Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar are reprising their iconic roles of Batman, Robin, and Catwoman, respectively, it has remained a mystery as to who would round out the rest of the cast – until now, that is.

The Animated Feature contenders: Regular Show: The Movie
Tim here. Our tour of the films submitted for this year's Best Animated Feature Oscar now takes us to the most obscure American-made film on the list, Regular Show: The Movie. It's a spin-off of an absurdist Cartoon Network series – that is, absurdist even by the standards of Cartoon Network – which was given the tiniest whisper of a theatrical release to ensure the publicity of articles like this one. So, a success!

The film has the freaked-out energy of a kid on a sugar rush, and assembles its plot in roughly as coherent a manner: in the future, talking raccoon Rigby (William Salyers) and talking bluebird Mordecai (director & series creator J.G. Quintel), formerly best friends, are on opposite sides of a galactic war to stop a rift in the space-time continuum for devouring all of existence. The only way to do this is for a mortally wounded Rigby to travel back to the present,...

Rag & Bone “Men’s Project”
The original Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, has joined the season-two cast of Halo 5's 'Hunt the Truth' series.

The famed Star Wars actor is among several other series newcomers whose voices will be featured in the second season, including Tamara Taylor, Vanessa Marshall, Alan Tudyk, Rosa Salazar, Bruce Thomas, Peter Serafinowicz and William Salyers.

Halo 5 Guardians: Everything you need to know, including story, beta and release date

Halo franchise development director Frank O'Connor, 'Hunt the Truth' creative director Noah Eichen and season two lead Janina Gavankar have shared a sound clip from the upcoming season with Time.

The brief recording consists primarily of the voice behind Fero, Gavankar, the rebel leader who saved fictional war journalist Benjamin Giraud from grave danger in the first season.

'Hunt the Truth' aims to expose the "real" story of Master Chief in a series of weekly audio clips, which make up part of Giraud's investigation of the Halo protagonist.

Emily S. Whitten: Oh, Dragon Con!
Oh, Dragon Con, how I adore you! Let me count the ways…

They include:

1. The fact that even the airline losing my luggage until 3 a.m. on arrival Thursday feels like something I can roll with, since, after all, the minute I walk in I find old friends (and new) to greet me and take my mind off of things – and to commiserate, and hope with me that all of my toiletries and hand-made costume items are not lost forever in the bowels of Reagan National. Thankfully they weren’t. 2. The costumes, oh the costumes. Including my own! This year, a Harley Quinn / Jake the Dog mash-up (with hand-painted grenades, and my partner-in-crime Poison Ivy / Princess Bubblegum and bonus convertible-to-party-time skirt); Pinky from Pinky & the Brain (with my friend Chicken Boo, who is definitely not a chicken); and Helena from Orphan Black (complete with bloody fortune-teller). Great costumes I saw...

‘Regular Show: Season One’ DVD Review
Stars: J.G Quintel, William Salyers, Sam Marin, Mark Hamill, Roger Craig Smith, Janie Haddad Tompkins | Created by J.G Quintel

In my review of The Amazing World of Gumball: Season 1 I spoke about how, as a kid I adored two cartoons in particular – Beavis and Butthead and Ren & Stimpy. I also said that Gumball was, at it’s core, very similar to Ren & Stimpy… Well consider Regular Show to be this generations Beavis and Butthead. Featuring the same ridiculous situations, the same ridiculous humour; and even two best friends who Laugh like Mike Judge’s irreverent duo. All Regular Show is missing is the social commentary and crude toilet humour.

That’s not to say there still isn’t something a little subversive about the series, far from it. Like it’s stable-mates, The Amazing World of Gumball and Adventure Time, Regular Show has just enough “adult” content...
