The brutal world of Mortal Kombat may soon grow into a much larger cinematic universe. With Mortal Kombat 2 on the way, producer Todd Garner confirmed that the sequel is far from the franchise’s final chapter.

In a recent interview with YouTuber FutureBoyWho2, Garner revealed that the creative team has big plans for the future. “We’re hoping this isn’t the end,” he said. “This isn’t just a one-and-done. Hopefully, this is just the beginning.”

Garner teased major developments for characters like Scorpion and Bi-Han, who will return as Noob Saibot in the upcoming film. He also reassured fans that iconic moments, like Kano finally getting his signature metal eye, are coming down the pipeline.

While the future of the series depends on how the next film performs, Garner made it clear the door is open for more.

Real Reason Why Arnold Schwarzenegger Refused Predator Sequel Before Killer of Killers Return
Image
Arnold Schwarzenegger found worldwide fame when he portrayed Dutch in the 1987 film Predator. However, the actor did not return for a sequel when it was made in 1990. During a Q&a session in 2015(via THR), Schwarzenegger was asked about his thoughts on the Predator franchise (which wasn’t doing too well before Dan Trachtenberg took over things). The actor heavily criticized the franchise and lamented how studios made sequels just for the money.

The sad story is that sometimes studios do a great job with creating sequels, and sometimes they really screw it up bad, and it all has to do with greed. They sometimes want to do it really cheap and make as much money as possible, so they don’t hire the right cast or the right director.

However, another side to this story was revealed in an interview with Collider when producer John Davis revealed that the...

Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim in Mortal Kombat (2021)

Warner Bros. will release Mortal Kombat II in U.S. theaters on October 24, and the film is already off to a strong start in terms of audience interest and engagement. The film’s trailer was released last week and Deadline is now reporting that it broke a viewership record.

Image
Mortal Kombat fans are preparing for Round 2, as Mortal Kombat II is finally hitting the big screen this fall. A bloody red band trailer was just released for the movie, and it's already set an impressive record, hinting that there may be a strong turnout for the sequel in theaters.

‘Mortal Kombat II’ Red Band Trailer Is A Knockout With Record 107M Views
Image
Exclusive: It was clear back in the mid-1990s when New Line made the first adaptation of the Midway videogame, and it’s still evident today: There’s a massive appetite for Mortal Kombat. WaveMetrix data reports that the latest trailer for the Simon McQuoid sequel has notched 106.8M worldwide views in its first 24 hours after being dropped on Thursday, July 17 at 9Am Pst — the best ever for a red-band trailer. The trailer launched in 68 countries and 47 languages. Mortal Kombat II opens on Oct. 24.

The previous McQuoid movie back in 2021 was also a red trailer record-breaker, clearing 116M views in its first week and besting the 4-day traffic of Logan and Deadpool 2.

Great views yield excellent box office. Despite a theatrical day and date release on HBO Max, Mortal Kombat opened to a robust $23.3M over April 23-25, 2021; that was about on par to the unadjusted 1995 opening of the first movie which did $23.2M.

‘Mortal Kombat II’ Trailer Throws Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage Into the Ring

“Mortal Kombat II,” the sequel to 2021’s “Mortal Kombat” and based on the popular, hyper-violent videogame series, arrives in theaters this October. This new film sees director Simon McQuoid return, along with much of the cast of the original movie, including, incredibly, “Shōgun” breakout Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion. If you’ll recall, in the last film, the actual “Mortal Kombat” tournament hadn’t actually started yet. There was a weird reset at the end of the film, with the promise of the tournament coming in the second installment. They have made good on that promise, at least, with fighters from all...

‘Mortal Kombat II’ Official Trailer – Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage Gets Pulled into the Brutal Tournament
Image
Big screen movie sequel Mortal Kombat II is headed our way this Halloween season, and Warner Bros. has unleashed the official trailer this afternoon. Give it a watch below!

Mortal Kombat II marks the arrival of Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage into the rebooted movie franchise, and the character takes center stage in this first official trailer. The new trailer also makes it clear that the sequel will actually depict the titular tournament this time around, and it looks much more like a video game come to life than the first movie did back in 2021.

That being said, I’m still not entirely sold on the approach of this particular big screen universe. A lot of what’s on display here looks much the same as the aforementioned 2021 movie, but Urban’s presence should help elevate the material and at least give us a character worth rooting for. Watch the...

Karl Urban's Johnny Cage Gets an Explosive Faux Movie Trailer for Mortal Kombat 2
Image
Mortal Kombat 2 is heading to theaters this year, but fans are still waiting for an official trailer. While the trailer for the film itself isn't dropping until July 17, an early teaser has been released, showcasing newcomer Karl Urban in his role as the fan-favorite fighter Johnny Cage.

The video also touches on Cage's other films, touting how the actor has also starred in Cool Hand Cage, Hard to Cage, and Rebel Without a Cage. Check out the teaser below, per IGN.

One qualm that fans had with the previous Mortal Kombat film was the absence of Johnny Cage. The character has been very popular with fans since the...
