‘Ghosts’ Heads To France; Team Behind Disney+ & TF1 Series Say The U.S. Version Of ‘The Office’ Will Inspire Their Approach To Any Future Seasons
Image
Ghosts has been a hit for the BBC in the UK and CBS in the U.S. Now viewers in France are going to get their own version of the comedy series, which follows a group of spooks from different eras who reside alongside a living couple who move into a country mansion.

The French series — Ghosts : Fantômes en Héritage — will drop on Disney+ in France and then play on commercial broadcaster TF1. The show was set up through BBC Studios, the French arm of which produces. It is a version of the Monumental-produced UK series not its U.S. equivalent.

The team behind the French comedy tell Deadline that having become fans of the show and its writing, they stuck closely to the stories from the UK series in their first season, which like its British forbear runs to six instalments. They are, however, already working on a...

Frightfest Glasgow 2024: ‘The Deep Dark’ Review
Image
Stars: Samuel LeBihan, Amir El Kacem, Jean-Hughes Anglade, Thomas Solivérès, Diego Martín, Marc Riso, Bruno Sanches | Written and Directed by Mathieu Turi

It’s 1856, and in the historic coal mines of Northern France, a group of miners find themselves trapped in the subterranean depths after a cave-in. But they soon realise they are not alone… Decades later, veteran miner Roland is forced by management to accompany Professor Berthier underground to take samples and measurements. A sudden landslide prevents them from surfacing, and they, too, must face the ancient mutant that constantly craves blood.

Miners in 50s France come face to face with a monstrous disciple of The Old One, which has recently been a major trope in horror cinema – it seems whilst the work of Lovecraft is unfilmable, homaging it is not. We’ve had films like The Deep Ones, The Old Ones, The Lighthouse et al and now this...

‘The Deep Dark’ Trailer – French Horror Movie Looks Like ‘My Bloody Valentine’ Meets Creature Feature
Image
Up next from French filmmaker Mathieu Turi is The Deep Dark, which looks to be headed to theaters in France beginning on November 29, 2023.

We don’t yet have any idea when the film will be released here in the United States, but a French trailer for The Deep Dark has surfaced this week. You can check it out below.

The Deep Dark is said to have “Lovecraft vibes,” and the end of the trailer teases some kind of skeletal creature. My Bloody Valentine meets Lovecraftian creature feature? We like it.

The film is set in 1956, in the north of France…

“A band of underground miners is forced to lead a professor to take samples a thousand meters underground. After a landslide prevents them from going back up, they discover a crypt from another time, and unknowingly wake up something that should have remained asleep.”

HBO Max Sets Spanish Version of ‘The Traitors’ – Global Bulletin
Image
Commission

HBO Max has commissioned a Spanish adaptation of psychological adventure format “The Traitors.” The show is set in an atmospheric castle where 18 celebrities come together to complete a series of challenges with the objective of earning a cash prize. But the catch is, three of them are chosen to be traitors, and they must devise a plan to steal the prize instead of sharing it among the rest. The eight-part Spanish series is produced by Banijay Iberia’s Gestmusic for HBO Max, where it will play locally as “Traitors España.” The adaptation has wrapped filming and is hosted by actor and director Sergio Peris-Mencheta.

“The Traitors” was originally developed by Idtv and All3Media for RTL4 in the Netherlands, and the Spanish version will follow adaptations for M6 in France, which will feature 14 celebrity contestants including Olympian David Douillet, his wife Vanessa Douillet, model and TV presenter Delphine Wespiser, actor...

Thanks to My Friends review – quirky, watchable midlife crisis comedy
It’s debatable whether the world needs another comedy about a babyish bloke having a midlife crisis, but this example is far from the worst

Alexandre (director Alex Lutz) is 35 years old, has a solid if boring job in insurance, a cool if slightly neurotic wife (Anne Marivin), and a loyal if dim best friend named Jeff (Bruno Sanches). But when he reconnects with Thibault (Tom Dingler), another old friend who is now a life coach preaching that people should pursue their dreams however ridiculous they are, Alexandre decides to put everything at risk, including his marriage and friendship with Jeff, to become a singer. The world probably doesn’t really need another film about babyish blokes having midlife crises, lashings of voiceover and a semi-serious scene filmed at a kids’ party so that silly hats can be deployed ironically, but if you like that sort of thing, this specimen isn’t half bad.
