    • Carl Sandburg was born on January 6, 1878 in Galesburg, Illinois, USA. He was a writer, known for The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), You Are There (1953) and American Playhouse (1980). He was married to Lilian Steichen. He died on July 22, 1967 in Flat Rock, North Carolina, USA.

  • Pictured on a 13¢ US commemorative postage stamp in the American Poets series, issued in his honor 6 January 1978 (100th anniversary of his birth).

  • Won the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 1919 for the volume "Corn Huskers" and in 1951 for "Complete Poems".
