Does Peacock’s new series, ‘Hysteria!’ make the list?
It’s the spooky season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a laugh at the same time.
That’s why I’m pulling out my list of the top 7 horror comedy TV shows you can stream right now – just in time to enjoy Peacock’s newest entry to the genre with “Hysteria!” The new horror comedy series is set during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s when a heavy metal band trying to take advantage of the craze finds themselves at the center of a witch-hunt. If you missed my movie list of top horror comedies, check it out here. And if you’re wondering why I don’t have a list of straight-up scary movies, the reason is simple – I don’t watch them because they terrify me. My babysitter showed me the original “It” when...

Several TV shows on this list ended prematurely, leaving fans disappointed with unresolved storylines and potential. Some TV series, like Glow and Mindhunter, had plans for subsequent seasons that could have provided closure. Cancelation decisions can be surprising, with popular shows like Daredevil and Westworld being cut short due to various reasons.
Lots of TV shows are canceled before their time, but these 10 shows specifically needed one more season to wrap everything up. Although some shows will simply keep going until they are canceled, others have very specific plans, with the showrunners, writers, and directors having some sort of end point in sight. This was the case for these 10 TV shows, and while they were canceled before they reached this end point, they could easily wrap things up if they were given one more season.

In a September 12, 1997 piece for The Wall Street Journal titled “Gridiron Feminism,” Camille Paglia argued that not only is football “congruent with an enlightened feminism,” but that the sport “is one of the best educational tools for showing women how to advance in the ‘hostile workplace,’—which current sexual harassment regulations try to control through intrusive, after-the-fact legal remedies.”

If you're looking for a solid horror TV series, then you could do much worse than Ash vs Evil Dead. In terms of scares and ghouls, this mid-2010s series truly has it all. We're talking a spooky horror atmosphere, imaginative monsters, vile gore, impressive practical effects, a strong storyline, and a killer cast made up of Bruce Campbell, Dana DeLorenzo, and Ray Santiago. Beyond its horror-adjacent creative choices, Ash vs Evil Dead is also just flat-out funny. This series pushes the comedy harder than any other title in the Evil Dead franchise. For some fans, that might be a bit off-putting, but for those who just want a fun and sinister TV show that juggles creepy and comic, this is a must-see. Don't just take my word for it, either. This is the highest-rated horror series on Rotten Tomatoes. Even if you aren't a fan of that site, landing...

How the heck do you rank the "Evil Dead" movies?
No horror franchise has taken bigger swings, with entries ranging from brutal, unrelenting horror to straight-up goofball slapstick. No horror franchise has proven more consistent in its inconsistency, with each entry showcasing an anarchic streak a mile wide. If an "Evil Dead" movie isn't trying to startle you out of your skin with transgressive intensity, it's trying to make you giggle like a loon. And sometimes, it tries to make you giggle like a loon using that transgressive intensity. Director Sam Raimi made it clear with his original three movies that there are no hard and fast rules in this universe -- and other filmmakers have gleefully stepped in and followed suit. The only thing that truly defines an "Evil Dead" movie is that it needs to be extreme in one way or another.

For a brief window of time, it seemed as if Sam Raimi's Evil Dead franchise was destined to rise from its grave. The early to mid-2010s saw the hysterical horror series return with 2013's Evil Dead, a half-and-half reboot that loosely followed the events of the original series with a brand-new cast. It was more reminiscent of the first Evil Dead than Army of Darkness, embracing the "evil" of Evil Dead through its grim tone and painful violence. A second installment, however, would return to the franchise's sillier side with a full-blown series, along with bringing back the bona fide face of Evil Dead as a whole.

It was heartbreaking when the copyright dispute between original Friday the 13th producer/director Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller came up and brought any further development of the extremely cool Friday the 13th video game to a screeching halt. Now here’s another franchise video game heartbreaker: the folks at Saber Interactive have announced that they won’t be developing any new content for Evil Dead: The Game, and plans to bring the game to Nintendo Switch have been abandoned.
Here’s the announcement:

No information was given on exactly why Saber had decided to set aside any further development of the game. It would be odd if there are licensing issues, because the rights to the overall Evil Dead franchise seem to be rather clear cut: they’re owned by franchise creator Sam Raimi, producer Rob Tapert, and star Bruce Campbell.

Evil Dead franchise star and Hollywood legend Bruce Campbell disappointed some of his followers on social media over their fake autograph.
In a May 28 Twitter post, Campbell responded to a couple of fans who had just received a photo of the actor alongside his fellow Ash vs Evil Dead co-stars Dana De Lorenzo and Ray Santiago. "Hate to burst the ol’ bubble, but that doesn’t look like my sig," Campbell said. "I know my squiggle." Campbell also retweeted an image of a simple block autograph saying "Ash," noting that the second was indeed an authentic signature.

Exclusive: Christina Anthony (Mixed-ish), Ray Santiago (Ash vs. Evil Dead) and Melanie J. Newby (Halt & Catch Fire) are set as series regulars opposite Amber Ruffin in NBC comedy pilot Non-Evil Twin from Universal Television.
Written by Ruffin and Kenny Smith, the multi-camera pilot stars Ruffin playing the dual roles of twin sisters Angie and Amber. Angie is the ruthless CEO of AngieCorp, who is as heartless as she is rich. Angie instills fear in everyone she meets, except her caring sister, Amber, who only sees the good in her. Amber—a pushover when it comes to Angie—is forced to step in as the leader of AngieCorp, a Fortune 500 company, despite knowing little about business and even less about the way her sister has been running the corporation.
Anthony will play Christina, Angie’s assistant/acolyte who believes she’s the smartest person in the room and easily annoyed by others.

HBO has secured another ratings hit with their new video game adaptation “The Last of Us,” and while it’s as exciting and epic as the original video game, it also has the distinction of having a Latino leading man. Chilean actor Pedro Pascal plays the protagonist Joel, who is tasked with trekking across the horrific landscape to help find a cure with young Ellie in tow.
With a Latino actor leading such a massive hit for the horror genre, it got us thinking about other great Latino Horror Heroes from pop culture. Here are five of our favorites.
Pablo Simon Bolivar – Ash vs. Evil Dead

Groovy! For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit “Ash vs. Evil Dead“, the three-season television series that aired on the Starz Network from 2015 through 2018.
One of the most sobering moments of “Ash vs. Evil Dead” came in the original introduction by franchise star Bruce Campbell, who explained that the series was made because fans wouldn’t shut up. Indeed, fans had been asking for years for another adventure with Ashley Williams after Army of Darkness, and the team finally obliged in 2015. The climate was right for the return of the Evil Dead at the time as studios and television networks were investing in horror series. Developed by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, and Tom Spezialy, Starz’s “Ash vs. Evil Dead” wasn’t just a dry run for fans. The series was a return to form for the Evil Dead series, one that never betrayed its source material...

"Evil Dead Rise," the latest film in the "Evil Dead" horror franchise, is setting itself up to be one ferociously fun flick. The trailers revealed glimpses of our new hero, Beth (Lily Sullivan) wielding a chainsaw, we've seen her with the boomstick, and there's a freaky new take on the Necronomicon Ex Mortis — the Book of the Dead.
The red-band trailer promises that this "Evil Dead" entry will be as gory and gross as the rest of the franchise, and its version of the book seems to reflect the film's extra teeth (literally!). So what's up with this new Necronomicon? Is it the same one discovered by Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) in the woods back in the 1980s? Is it the one from Fede Álvarez's 2013 reboot, found by Mia (Jane Levy) and her friends? Or is it some new, third thing, bringing new lore to the world of Kandarian demons and Deadites?...

The "Evil Dead" franchise has accrued a lot of famous objects over the years, and the upcoming "Evil Dead Rise" looks like it's bringing back all of the classics. We already knew that "Evil Dead Rise" was going to focus heavily on the Necronomicon Ex Mortis -- the Book of the Dead -- and the red-band trailer featured a great glimpse of new hero Beth (Lily Sullivan) wielding a bloody chainsaw, but we now have evidence of a boomstick, too! Empire Magazine revealed an image of Beth with a double-barrel shotgun alongside their interview with director Lee Cronin back in December, and it looks perfect. The movie looks like it's tonally right between the original "The Evil Dead" from 1981 and its 2013 reboot, and having all of the tools of the Deadite-trashing trade around is enough to make any fan start drooling. Seriously, can't it be April already?

The series “Ash vs. Evil Dead” has plenty of representation in Evil Dead: The Game, and we’ve learned that the next Dlc pack will bring even more “Ash vs Evil Dead” love into the mix.
The team tweets today, “The Book of the Dead never lets anyone off easy. Ash vs Evil Dead Dlc arrives early next year! What are you most hoping to see?”
Along with the tweet, they’ve also showed off a sneak-peek at a new Pablo (Ray Santiago) skin that’ll be included with the Dlc update, and you can check that out below.
Boss Team Games and Saber Interactive’s Evil Dead: The Game features single-player and co-op gameplay, promising to be the ultimate Evil Dead experience in the world of video games. Several characters from the movies and TV series are playable in the game at launch, along with four different versions of Deadite-slaying horror hero Ash Williams.

"Cobra Kai" is such a phenomenon that when its initial streaming service, YouTube Red, crashed and burned, Netflix swooped in with the renewal. What started as a show subverting the "Karate Kid" franchise by picking up the story from the point of view of middle-aged former villain Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), transformed over five seasons into a sprawling mini-epic involving Lawrence, former archrival Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio), their families, a whole new generation of karate students, and the return of several old enemies and allies who cannot let the past go.
Once you've binged it multiple times, what next? Where else can you get the thrill of '80s heroes dealing with toxic masculinity and youthful characters supplanting them, bad guys realizing they're actually good, and lots of telenovela-level twists? Glad you asked. For some, or even all, of those TV show qualities elsewhere on your control panel, check out...

Just last month, Evil Dead: The Game was updated to add the characters of Mia and David Allen from the 2013 Evil Dead movie. This month, it’s going to receiving the “Hail to the King” update – and it’s quite appropriate that the update is named after a line from Army of Darkness, because it involves the addition of an Army of Darkness-inspired single player mission and a character from Army of Darkness!
The new single player mission has the following description: “Castle Kandar’s Witch has opened a rift in time and space. Henry the Red must put her to the sword to save mankind.“
The Army of Darkness character who is being added to the game is The Blacksmith. In the film, the Blacksmith was played by Timothy Patrick Quill, who unfortunately passed away last year at the age of 63. It’s a nice tribute to Quill that...

Following the cancellation of Ash Vs. Evil Dead in 2018, star Bruce Campbell tweeted that he was retiring his most famous role.
Ash Williams was the main character of the original Evil Dead trilogy and was brought back for three seasons of the television show in 2015. The series was cancelled due to declining ratings though and two years after the fact, co-star Ray Santiago has said that he believes it would have continued had it been on a streaming platform rather than the Starz network.
He might be right, too, as there is precedent for shows beginning on one network and then garnering significantly more viewership once they move to Netflix. Between 2015 and 2018, Campbell appeared in 30 episodes of the Starz horror series for one last hurrah as his famous Evil Dead character. Though reviews for the series were strong, its limited viewership on Starz didn't do it any favors, and the show officially came to an end after three seasons, prompting Campbell to announce he would never play Ash again. Now, speaking about the series with Chuck Load of Comics, Campbell's co-stars are teasing a revival.
"We could have had a bigger audience were we on a platform like Hulu or Amazon or Netflix, but because we were on this cable subscription, it really limited the audience," says Ray Santiago, who co-starred with Campbell as Pablo on Ash vs.

In any discussion of the most iconic campy horror movies, The Evil Dead is an obvious entry. It’s got the perfect mix of ridiculous plot, fountains of gore, demonic creatures, and over the top characters like Ash Williams, played by Bruce Campbell. The winning formula was replicated over the course of two sequels, The Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, and the franchise has cemented its reputation as a cult classic.
The 2013 remake titled Evil Dead marked a pretty dramatic shift in tone, with a grittier and darker reimagining of the franchise and a new protagonist named Mia. It wasn’t remembered as fondly as the original trilogy though, even though at one point there were plans for a sequel, one in which Ash would team up with Mia to kick demon ass.
And while we didn’t get that version of the film, we did get the Ash vs.

"I think when David Bowie died, the universe broke." Giant Pics has debuted a trailer for the indie drama Speed of Life, the latest film from film critic ("Just Seen It") / filmmaker Liz Manashil. This premiered at the Nashville Film Festival, and will be available on VOD this month. The film centers around David Bowie's death in 2016, which causes a rift in time and space. It starts in 2016 with a couple, June and Edward, but Edward falls into a wormhole created by Bowie's passing. Then it jumps to 2040, when Edward suddenly reappears in her life after years of mourning his disappearance. Ann Dowd stars as the older June, with Allison Tolman playing her in 2016. The cast includes Ray Santiago, Jeff Perry, Vella Lovell, Sean Wright, and Christine Weatherup. A strange story for a film, but looks like it has a few good moments. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Liz Manashil's Speed of Life,...

Ahead of the International premiere of Uncanny Annie at Arrow Video FrightFest Halloween 2019, director Paul Davis reflects on working for Blumhouse, bemoans attitudes to British genre film funding and reveals the movies that inspire him the most…
Welcome back to FrightFest. It’s been a while. Excited?
Very excited. This is very much a homecoming for me having spent the best part of two-years now making movies in Los Angeles. What makes it all the more special is that after two shorts and a documentary, this marks the first time I’ve had a narrative feature film play at FrightFest, and on the 10th anniversary of my first Ff appearance. So this one means a lot to me, as it was something I’ve longed to do ever since Beware The Moon in 2009.

Original Evil Dead director Sam Raimi says a new movie in the classic horror franchise is being developed and the plan is for the project to have someone new in the director's chair. Speaking with fans at New York Comic-Con while promoting the upcoming reboot of The Grudge, Raimi spoke about the current status of the Evil Dead series. "There's more Evil Dead coming," Raimi teased, stopping short of revealing any specific plot details. Raimi also told fans Bruce Campbell would be on board as a producer, but wouldn't be starring in the movie as the actor is "tired of me throwing blood on him."
Raimi's horror franchise began with The Evil Dead in 1981. The classic horror movie starred Campbell as Ashley J. "Ash" Williams, a young man who travels to a remote cabin with his girlfriend and some pals and inadvertently conjures a demonic entity. The 1987 sequel Evil Dead II...
