There is a reason why Rajesh Khanna is known as the first superstar of Hindi cinema. The late veteran actor has blessed us with iconic films like Aradhana, Do Raaste, and Haathi Mere Saathi. Rajesh Khanna made his Bollywood debut in 1966. He had delivered some blockbuster films like Aradhana alongside Sharmila Tagone and Do Raaste opposite Mumtaz. In 1969, he joined hands with Yash Chopra for the mystery thriller, Ittefaq. They collaborated again for Daag: A Poem of Love in 1973. But unfortunately, that was their last film together despite delivering successes together!

When the film 'Bazaar', Sagar Sarhadi's debut directorial venture, released in the early 1980s, several pre-established boundaries were challenged - not just been art and mainstream cinema, but also characterisations. There were no black and white characters, only humans with multiple shades. Tragedy was not an explosion but a series of daily upheavals. And suicide could be an act of self defence.

Sarhadi, who passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday night after age-related issues started his writing career with Urdu plays and short stories.

Born near Abbottabad, he migrated to Delhi at the age of 12.

Entering the Hindi film industry with a bang by writing dialogues for Yash Chopra's 1976 'Kabhie Kabhie', starring Amitabh Bachchan and Raakhee, he also wrote the screenplay for 'Silsila' and dilogues for 'Chandni'.

In the 90s, he also wrote dialogues for Shah Rukh Khan's debut 'Deewana' and Hritik Roshan's 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai'.

Mumbai, March 22 (Ians) Eminent writer-filmmaker Sagar Sarhadi, who breathed life into emotional roller coasters of Bollywood in the late 70s and the 80s, is no more. He breathed his last at his residence in the the city following age-related ailments. He was 88.

Poet, lyricist, scriptwriter Javed Akhtar tweeted: "Sagar Sarhadi a veteran theater and film writer who wrote films like Kabhi Kabhi, Noori and directed Baazaar has passed away. My heart felt condolences to the late bachelor's nephew Ramesh Talwar."

Sarhadi passed away late Sunday night after several days in ICU, media reports said.

"Saddened to hear about the demise of Veteran Writer and Director Sagar Sarhadi. My thoughts and prayers with the family. Heartfelt Condolences," tweeted Supriya Sule, Ncp MP.

Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff confirmed the death sharing a monochrome picture on social media, which he captioned: "Will Miss You...... R.I.P."

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta too paid his tribute on Twitter.

Bhubaneswar, July 6: Odisha-born Jitendra Mishra, who co-produced award winning film "I am Kalam", has inked a worldwide sales and distribution deal with veteran Hindi filmmaker and writer Sagar Sarhadi for his film "Chausar".

"Chausar" was produced in 2004. But due to some unforeseen circumstances, it couldn't reach to masses, Mishra said.

"I have inked a deal with Sagar Sarhadi to showcase this untold story in front of the world audience. We will convert the film digitally and release it worldwide by the end of this year. We're looking for likeminded partners who can support to release this film," Mishra, a native of Odisha's.

New Delhi, May 16: You must have seen a good dose of Hyderabadi culture in Sagar Sarhadi's "Bazaar", and now director Nitin Raghunath is set to bring the same flavour on the screen with his forthcoming movie "Mere Haule Dost".

Produced by PVR Director's Rare, the story is set in Hyderabad and revolves around five friends who dream of participating in the Himalayan bike rally but do not have enough funds to support them, said a statement.
