Ice Cube’s ‘War of the Worlds’: What the Critics Are Saying
Image
Amazon Prime Video’s War of the Worlds is trending online, with critics (and the internet alike) mostly rebuking the film.

The 2025 adaptation of H. G. Wells’ 1898 novel of the same name stars Ice Cube as Will Radford, a Department of Homeland Security officer, who is tasked with keeping Earth safe from an infamous hacker when an alien invasion simultaneously occurs.

This isn’t the first time Wells’ story has been refurbished. Orson Welles’ was the first to adapt War of the Worlds with his infamous 1938 radio broadcast. Additional reiterations include Steven Spielberg’s 2005 film of the same name, and several other movies and TV shows.

The official logline for the film reads, “A gargantuan invasion is coming with this fresh take on the legendary novel of the same name. Renowned actress Eva Longoria is joined by iconic rapper and actor Ice Cube, along with Michael O’Neill and Iman Benson,...

Amazon Will Still Take and Fulfill Orders During An Apocalypse, According to Amazon’s ‘War of the Worlds’
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Prime Video’s 2025 adaptation of War of the Worlds.

Last week, Prime Video dropped its new straight-to-streaming take on War of the Worlds. H.G. Wells’ original novel was published in 1898, which means it’s in the public domain, and contemporary artists can do whatever they want with the source material. Apparently, that includes turning it into dogshit.

If you’ve somehow missed the novel and its many adaptations — including a recent series that ran for three seasons and starred Gabriel Byrne, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Elizabeth McGovern, but which hid from us all on the usually forgotten premium movie network Epix — War of the Worlds is about a terrestrial invasion by aliens from Mars, who feed on human blood. The novel is a first-person narrative, and thus lent itself to Orson Welles’ interpretation. In his 1938 radio play, a broadcaster reports on the invasion beat by beat,...

Tulsa KingSeason 3 gets a tense new teaser trailer ahead of its debut on Paramount+.

The official teaser trailer for the upcoming third season of Tulsa King starring Sylvester Stallone was published to the official Paramount+ YouTube channel on August 6, giving fans a sneak-peek at all the pulse-pounding action and nail-biting tension to come. The teaser sees Stallone's Dwight Manfredi slowly spiraling while enemies close in on him and his allies from all sides. Audiences will be able to watch the chaos unfold for themselves when Tulsa King returns to Paramount+ with new episodes on Sept. 21.

Created by modern TV luminary Taylor Sheridan, Tulsa King stars Stallone as Dwight "The General" Manfredi, a capo of the Invernizzi crime family who is released from prison after 25 years and sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he sets up a new shop of his own. Prime Video's War of the Worlds Slammed as One of the Worst Movies Ever by Viewers
Image
Prime Video's War of the Worlds is baffling viewers on social media, and some are calling it one of the worst movies of all time. Directed by Rich Lee, the sci-fi film is based on H.G. Wells' 1898 novel The War of the Worlds, which was previously adapted by Steven Spielberg in 2005, with Tom Cruise in the starring role.

This new take on the classic source material stars Ice Cube as protagonist William Radford, with supporting cast members including Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, and Andrea Savage, among others. Prime Video's War of the Worlds takes a new approach to the story, with the action happening exclusively on screens over video conferencing software.

After its release on Prime Video on July 30, many subscribers have now gotten a chance to watch the new War of the Worlds, and some are taking to X, formerly Twitter, to share their feelings on the movie.

Why Ice Cube’s ‘War of the Worlds’ Has a 0% Rotten Tomatoes Score: ‘Hilariously Awful’ and ‘Generationally Bad’
Image
Move over, Steven Spielberg. There’s a new “War of the Worlds” in town.

Actually, you’re probably fine.

A new adaptation of H. G. Wells’ seminal sci-fi classic “The War of the Worlds” released on Amazon Prime in late July, making waves on social media for all the wrong reasons.

The movie takes place entirely on various screens, following Ice Cube’s Will Radford (a surveillance expert for the Department of Homeland Security) as he witnesses the alien invasion from his computer. It currently sits at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes with 14 reviews. The audience score, with more than a thousand reviews, is a mere 14%.

Many have latched onto a text card in the film’s trailer that reads, “It’S Worse Than You Think” as a sign of the movie’s quality (or lack thereof). The trailer itself, which released in mid-July, became a mini online phenomenon for its bizarre tease of the screenlife adaptation.

War of the Worlds Cast Salary: How Much Does Ice Cube and Others Make in Hollywood?
Image
Prime Video’s 2025 screen life take on War of the Worlds was supposed to bring H.G. Wells into the digital era, but instead it crashed spectacularly. It launched to a rare 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics called its all-monitor setup dull and said the heavy Amazon product placement undermined any suspense.

Even a brief stint at No. 1 in Prime Video’s Top Ten couldn’t stop audiences from tuning out. But despite the movie crashing and burning, the cast didn’t walk away empty‑handed. Ice Cube and his co‑stars still pocketed hefty checks. Here’s how each actor fits into the fiasco, the career moments that got them here, and what they earned from one of Hollywood’s biggest streaming flops.

War Of The Worlds Debuts With a 0% Score And a Tagline That Accidentally Told the Truth
Image
Think about the worst movie you have ever watched. Well, according to critics, even the worst film won’t come close to Universal Pictures’ latest War of the Worlds. Starring Ice Cube in the lead role, the film has achieved a rare feat of debuting with a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes against 12 critic reviews.

The film is so bad that not one of the 12 critics deemed it worthy of any stars, which is ironic given the film’s tagline. The film’s official tagline is ‘It’s worse than you think,’ which perfectly describes the film while also foreshadowing its content. However, it feels less like a marketing strategy and more like an accidental warning label slapped across a project that fell off the rails before the aliens even landed. Even that hasn’t stopped fans from hate-streaming, making it one of the most streamed titles of recent times on...

Prime Video’s ‘War of the Worlds’ Movie Can’t Compare to Tom Cruise’s Version on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
The 1898 bestseller, The War of the Worlds, by H. G. Wells, has received numerous adaptations over the years, beginning with Orson Welles' 1938 radio drama. This year has also seen a film adaptation, the latest of all and coming on the heels of the 2023 War of the Worlds: The Attack, directed by Junaid Syed. The adaptation in question is the Ice Cube-starring War of the Worlds, released by Universal Pictures just last week, which has now officially received a Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes alongside highly unfavorable reviews from critics.

War of the Worlds, directed by Rich Lee, has been dealt a rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, days after its debut on Amazon Prime Video on July 30, 2025. Not to mention, all twelve critics’ reviews on the site found fault with every aspect of the movie, from its cast to its presentation. One such remark, from Todd Jorgensonof Cinemalogue, reads, “Failing...

‘War of the Worlds (2025)’ Review
Image
Stars: Ice Cube, Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, Iman Benson, Henry Hunter Hall, Devon Bostick, Andrea Savage, Michael O’Neill, Jim Meskimen | Written by Kenny Golde, Marc Hyman | Directed by Rich Lee

The latest adaptation of War of the Worlds, directed by Rich Lee and starring Ice Cube, attempts to reboot H.G. Wells’ classic alien invasion tale for the Zoom-era world of 2025. Produced by Universal, this version leans heavily into the found-footage aesthetic and pandemic-era storytelling devices, delivering a fast-paced but flawed digital-age take on a sci-fi staple.

Set in a near-future where global surveillance, data streams, and cyber infrastructure rule modern life, the film pivots the traditional Martian invasion to a world already under the microscope. Ice Cube plays a U.S. government security analyst monitoring worldwide threats via data feeds and surveillance systems. Alongside him are his improbably qualified children, a scientist daughter and a hacker son, who become...

Despite Becoming a Streaming Hit, Ice Cube's Remake of Steven Spielberg's $604M Sci-Fi Hit Debuts With an Unfortunate Rt Score
Image
In a world filled with reboots, revivals, and remakes, not everything becomes a hit. For example, Ice Cube's recent sci-fi film War of the Worlds has become a critical flop.

The film is based on H.G. Wells' sci-fi novel of the same name, published in 1898. The novel has seen multiple adaptations, and even Steven Spielberg adapted it into the successful 2005 film War of the Worlds starring Tom Cruise, which was a critical and commercial success. Ice Cube's new War of the Worlds is nowhere near Spielberg's success because, despite being a hit on streaming, it debuted with a very rare 0% score from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

War of the Worlds is based on Wells' vital novel, which is still one of the best sci-fi stories of all time. Alien invasion stories are nothing new nowadays, but H.G. Wells set a new path at the end of...

Remake of Tom Cruise’s Sci-Fi Megahit Starring Ice Cube Debuts with 0% Rotten Tomatoes Score

War of the Worlds is a 2025 science fiction thriller that tries a new approach by telling its story entirely through screens and digital devices. The movie is based on H.G. Wells’s famous 1898 novel The War of the Worlds. Directed by Rich Lee, with a screenplay by Kenneth A. Golde and Marc Hyman, it stars Ice Cube, Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, Andrea Savage, and others.

The film was released by Universal Pictures on Amazon Prime Video on July 30, 2025. Unfortunately, it was not well-received. The movie currently has a 0% approval rating from critics based on 10 reviews and only a 12% approval rating from audiences, based on over 250 ratings. While the number of critic reviews is small, it doesn’t look like the scores will improve much as more opinions come in.

War of the Worlds (2025) Review: Who Thought This Was a Good Idea?
Image
Plot: A grounded sci-fi film in the vein of District 9, that touches on themes of privacy versus surveillance

Review: I’ve always been an ardent defender of the “screen life” style of found footage films. I think they’re a unique way to present a story and can be very creative in how they utilize the gimmick. But what doesn’t work in any way is combining it with a mass surveillance system that allows us to see everything from all sorts of angles anyway. It makes the whole “seeing everything on a computer screen” feel very pointless. And that’s simply a good way to describe this new iteration of War of the Worlds: pointless.

Ice Cube plays a threat analyst named William Radford who spends his time spying on citizens of the United States, including his own kids. Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, and Andrea Savage all show up in supporting roles,...

‘War of the Worlds’ Review: Ice Cube Headlines a Disastrous Movie Retelling of H.G. Wells’ Alien-Invasion Classic
Image
In 1938, Orson Welles hosted a radio version of H.G. Wells’ “War of the Worlds” that reportedly sent listeners into a panic by treating the alien invasion as a breaking news broadcast. Skip forward to today, and a witless, straight-to-streaming adaptation of Wells’ novel seems highly unlikely to alarm anybody, confining the global takeover by aggressive extraterrestrial tripods to one man’s computer desktop as it does.

“War of the Worlds” marks the latest — and least convincing — screenlife thriller from “Searching” producer Timur Bekmambetov (this one clumsily orchestrated by VFX pro and frequent Eminem music video director Rich Lee). The project might be scarier if the company that’s releasing it, Amazon, hadn’t already achieved world domination. Even with a Prime subscription, you have to sit through two minutes of ads to watch 90 more of what amounts to a feature-length commercial for all things Amazon.

Ice Cube plays Will Radford,...

Andrea Savage Multi-Cam Comedy ‘Perf’ In Works At Fox
Image
Exclusive: Five years after the run of Andrea Savage’s praised TruTV series I’m Sorry was cut short by the pandemic, the actor-comedian is back with another TV comedy she is creating, executive producing and headlining.

Savage has signed a deal with Fox to develop, write and star in Perf (working title). The project, from Fox Entertainment Studios, is described is an ensemble multi-camera comedy that reflects Savage’s aspirational, edgy real life-based voice and her ability to tap into the humor of being an adult.

Perf is part of Fox’s push into multi-camera comedy under the network’s President Michael Thorn. Fox also recently put in development a multi-cam comedy starring Earthquake based on his life. The network’s current live-action comedy slate consists of the single-camera series Animal Control and Going Dutch.

Found Footage Screenlife Version of 'War of the Worlds' with Ice Cube
Image
"Data is their food. You are the harvest." Welcome to Earth 2.0! Prime Video has unveiled the full trailer for a new screenlife found footage version of War of the Worlds, directed by Rich Lee. In this new take - Ice Cube fights aliens to save his family and the world. An experiment in adapting this sci-fi classic story of alien ships hidden underneath the earth, this time commenting on surveillance and data, using only footage of screen videos to show what it would be like for someone watching from afar. An interesting concept, but it just looks like a gigantic, boring digital mess. Produced by Timur Bekmambetov, one of the few remaining "screenlife cinema" supporters, this new version will be steaming on Prime Video next week. A grounded sci-fi film in the vein of District 9, that touches on themes of privacy versus surveillance. Starring Ice Cube along with Eva Longoria,...

War of the Worlds: Steven Spielberg’s Tom Cruise Starrer Gets a Remake That’s Either Genius or Stupid
Image
War of the Worlds is back—but this time, it looks nothing like what we remember. The new version of the classic alien invasion story is landing on Prime Video on July 30. And instead of Tom Cruise running from tripod aliens, we now have Ice Cube playing a cyber-security expert named Will Radford. Yep, this time it’s more computers and hacking than hiding in basements.

This new movie is directed by Rich Lee and stars some big names like Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, Andrea Savage, and more. It’s a modern-day take on H.G. Wells’ famous story, where extraterrestrial creatures attack Earth, and no one knows why. But this time, Will Radford has a major twist—he no longer believes that aliens are the real danger; it’s the people in charge.

The official synopsis via Deadline,

The modern-day adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic novel follows Will...

Trailer: New 'War of the Worlds' Adaptation Starring Ice Cube and Eva Longoria Lands Prime Video July 30
Image
H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds has been adapted many times in many ways, and a trailer for the imminent latest version has just arrived. From Orson Welles' panic-inducing radio broadcast, to Jeff Wayne’s incredible musical album, and Steven Spielberg’s movie with Tom Cruise, it is sometimes hard to imagine that there can be anything new to bring to the party. However, that hasn’t stopped Ice Cube and Eva Longoria joining forces with Prime Video to rework the old alien invasion story into an even more modern take than its previous incarnation. In short, it has vlogs, and online video calls and all those types of things.

What is perhaps more surprising than the project itself is that it will debut on Prime Video on July 30, meaning that fans of the story will get to see this new, ultra-modern retelling of the classic novel in less than a week’s time.

‘War of the Worlds’ With Ice Cube & Eva Longoria Gets Release Date, Trailer (Video)

Once again, the world is under attack by an aggressive alien species looking to take over the globe for nefarious purposes — but this time, it’s Prime Video hosting the invasion with its latest sci-fi thriller. The streaming service offers a “bold imagining” of the classic sci-fi tale of an alien attack with Ice Cube in the lead, along with Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, and Andrea Savage. Set for release on July 30, 2025, the revival of H.G. Wells’ story takes modern media into consideration as it offers a new vision of the timeless horror tale. “It’ll be exciting for audiences to watch the movie and ask themselves: if aliens invaded today, how would we experience it? Most likely, we’d be watching it on our phones,” says producer Timur Bekmambetov. “In that way, it’s kind of a modern spin on Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds. Back then,...

War of the Worlds trailer: Ice Cube and Eva Longoria star in Prime Video reimagining of the H.G. Wells story
The War of the Worlds (1953)
There have been a lot of film and TV adaptations of H.G. Wells’ novel The War of the Worlds over the decades. Just since the release of the Steven Spielberg movie starring Tom Cruise twenty years ago, we have seen at least seven feature film adaptations of the story, one mini-series, and one multi-season series. This Sci-Fi Masterpiece Is Once Again Getting a Film Adaptation 20 Years After Tom Cruise Starred in One
Image
H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds is getting a screenlife makeover — and Ice Cube is at the center of it. Premiering globally on Prime Video July 30, the new modern-day reboot of the sci-fi classic comes from producers Patrick Aiello and Timur Bekmambetov, with a twist that’s very 2025: the story unfolds through the digital devices we use every day. Think alien invasion meets mass surveillance, told through smartphones, laptops, and security feeds — a visual language designed to feel disturbingly real. You mean we can't even trust TikTok? Since when?!

Directed by Rich Lee, this War of the Worlds follows Will Radford (Ice Cube), a Homeland Security cyber-security analyst who monitors threats via a vast surveillance network. But when an attack by an unknown entity hits, Will is forced to question everything he knows — including what the government might be hiding from him… and the rest of the world.

Taylor Sheridan's 'Tulsa King' Spin-Off Starring Samuel L. Jackson Loses Showrunner
Image
Taylor Sheridan's work can be seen everywhere, from being the co-creator of the hit neo-Western drama series Yellowstone to the crime drama Tulsa King on Paramount+. Now, the writer is preparing for Tulsa King's spin-off, Nola King, starring one of the greatest actors of all time, Samuel L. Jackson. While the upcoming series is highly anticipated, production hit a major snag recently that puts a temporary dent in its timeline. According to Variety, Dave Erickson, who co-created Fear the Walking Dead, signed on as the spin-off's showrunner but had to depart due to a scheduling conflict. The series hasn't been greenlit by Paramount+ yet, but the search for another showrunner is active as the series is a high priority.

Erickson is still the showrunner for Mayor of Kingstown (joined in the second season) and Tulsa King (joined in season 3). The good news is that there are a variety of great showrunners in the industry,...

'Things Are Getting Nasty': Sylvester Stallone Shares Intense New Look at Tulsa King Season 3
Image
Season 3 of the crime drama Tulsa King is on its way, and series star and Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone shared a new look on his Instagram.

Stallone took to Instagram last week to share a behind-the-scenes image from Tulsa King Season 3. The image features Stallone as Dwight "The General" Manfredi with his wrists restrained with zip ties. The post is captioned, "Things are getting nasty in Tulsa!"

In the comments section of the post, one of the series' newest cast members, Kevin Pollak, said, "Hey! I'm in that scene! #spoileralert." While what's happening in the image is vague, Pollak is entering the series as FBI Special Agent Musso. If you only watch one Taylor Sheridan show, it must be this one
Image
Taylor Sheridan has a lot of great shows, but if you only have time to watch one, crime drama Tulsa King is the best one!

Taylor Sheridan is currently one of the biggest and most successful producers in television. It started with his smash hit Yellowstone, which stunned everyone with its huge success. That led to a universe with spinoffs of 1883, 1923 and more to come.

Sheridan has kept himself busy with other shows such as Lioness and Landsman. However, if you have to narrow it down to just one Sheridan show to watch, then Tulsa King is a fantastic drama that works well for any crime fan! Thankfully, the series has already been renewed for a third season and the cast and crew are currently hard at work filming.

What is Tulsa King about (and why you should watch it)

Debuting on Paramount+ in 2022, Tulsa King opens with Dwight "The...

Tulsa King Season 3: Everything We Know So Far
Image
Sylvester Stallone might have a new title as President Trump's "special ambassador to Hollywood," but he's still sitting on the throne as the "Tulsa King." Yes, the Paramount+ juggernaut, one in a long line of Taylor Sheridan produced series, will be returning for a third season.

It makes sense that actor turned prolific TV creative has been able to create so many of these shows (considering he wrote the "Tulsa King" pilot in less than 24 hours), and yet, despite the quick script, some say "Tulsa King" may be Sheridan's best work (or at least the most entertaining of the bunch). The tale of Dwight "The General" Manfredi (Stallone) and rise from exiled New York mafia soldier to kingpin of Tulsa, Oklahoma has produced some of the funniest, strangest characters in the entire Sheridan universe. It has also helped turn the show into a hit for Paramount+, which has...

4 top Taylor Sheridan shows to binge over a weekend
Image
If you're here, then one or more of the following three things are true: It's the weekend, you're looking for something to watch, and you're a fan of Taylor Sheridan's shows. Thankfully, you have come to the right place for a recommendation of which of his shows to binge-watch this weekend. There's a lot of them, so it's entirely possible that you haven't watched them all.

Since debuting Yellowstone on the Paramount Network in 2018, Sheridan has expanded his television universe quite a bit in the following year, branching out with an extension of the franchise on streaming. Even beyond the Yellowstone series, Sheridan has additional star-studded shows like Lioness and Lawmen: Bass Reeves that are also worthing binge-watching.

But we're narrowing the list down to the four shows that will soon be returning with new seasons (or spinoffs) and can be binge-watch in a weekend. Since Yellowstone's five...

Sylvester Stallone Teases “Devious” Season 3 of Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Tulsa King’
Image
We might not have a release date yet, but Tulsa King Season 3 is officially underway — and Sylvester Stallone is already stirring the pot. The action legend took to Instagram to tease what's coming next for his fish-out-of-water mobster Dwight “The General” Manfredi, and according to Stallone, the plan for the new season is nothing short of devious. That’s right — Dwight’s return to Tulsa isn’t going to be smooth sailing. But did anyone really expect it would be?

“This is my friend, Frank Grillo,” Stallone says in a new behind-the-scenes video, as filming for Season 3 continues. “We’re about to do something a little devious in the name of commerce. It’s not like we’re thieves, right? We’re actually trying to retrieve what belongs to us. I have a feeling it’s going to go sideways.” Grillo — who joined the series in Season 2 as dangerous businessman Bill Bevilaqua — added,...

Sylvester Stallone at an event for The Oscars (2016)
Paramount+ has confirmed that Tulsa King will return for a third season. The crime drama, starring Sylvester Stallone and created by Taylor Sheridan, has already begun production in Atlanta and Oklahoma after months of casting.

Dave Erickson, previously a writer, executive producer, and showrunner on Mayor of Kingstown, has been named executive producer and showrunner for the upcoming season. His involvement was part of an overall deal with MTV Entertainment Studios, which produces Sheridan’s shows with 101 Studios.

Stallone, who plays Dwight “The General” Manfredi, secured a new contract in November, ensuring his involvement for at least two more seasons. This agreement set the stage for the series’ continuation, with a fourth season likely to follow.

The second season of Tulsa King, which concluded in November, set a Paramount+ record with 21.1 million global streaming views for its premiere. Alongside Landman and Lioness, it was among the top 10 U.S.

However, given the terrifying cliffhanger at the end of Season 2, Tulsa King has plenty of directions to go when Season 3 inevitably returns.

10 Best Tulsa King Characters, Ranked
Image
Even since Sylvester Stolle's Dwight Manfredi got out of prison and arrived in Tulsa, the lives of everyone in town and of his own family have drastically changed. Tulsa Kingexplores where one man's unchecked ambition can take him within the criminal underworld, for better or for worse. With two seasons aired so far, the show has shown how Dwight attracts people with his charm and confidence, but how it's ultimately dangerous to be close to him.

Stacy Beale, the Atf Agent who meets Dwight while at a bachelorette party, is one of those characters who find out the hard way how the gangster is bad luck. Though her character is not exactly likable, the plot twists she brings to Tulsa King Season 1 definitely deserve some recognition. The Manfredi women are also pretty aware of the damage Dwight can cause, but while Tina is in the show as a mere plot device for Dwight's consciousness,...

‘Tulsa King’ Season 2 Continues To Build Record Viewership As Taylor Sheridan’s Dominance On Paramount+ Persists
Image
Exclusive: Tulsa King is still pulling its weight over at Paramount+ as Season 2 has become one of the three biggest domestic originals in the streaming service’s history.

The second season, which wrapped up on November 17, has reached 13.6M global households to date, according to Paramount Global. It trails only behind Taylor Sheridan’s other hit 1923 and its own first season.

(It’s common for Paramount+ to tout global households rather that viewers, since the company can’t determine how many people are watching via a single stream, or if anyone is actually watching at all.)

This is a victory not only for Stallone and Sheridan, but for MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, which have been on a winning streak as of late. They also produce 1923 as well as Landman, which recently had the biggest global series premiere for Paramount+ in two years.
