Showrunner Industries Collaborating With AI Startup ScriptGen To Develop Writer Productivity Tools
Image
Exclusive: Showrunner Industries is now working with the AI startup ScriptGen on a collaboration involving the former’s script development platform WritersRoom Pro.

The deal will entail using ScriptGen’s machine learning to develop AI productivity tools within WritersRoom Pro that “will span the entire production chain from pre-production through post,” according to both companies. It was finalized last month during the AI on the Lot conference in Los Angeles.

“I think writing is at an interesting inflection point,” Jeffrey Alan Schechter, President of Showrunner Industries Inc, said in a statement “Everyone knows that some aspect of machine learning will find a way into the writers’ room, and we’re excited to help guide that process in a way that enables writers without replacing them.”

Schechter says that the ability to generate story ideas from scratch will not be one of the AI tools incorporated into WritersRoom Pro.

Stitchers returned for its third season on Monday with an appropriately mind-bending premiere that put Kirsten’s entire team on a new — not to mention extremely personal — path.

For starters, we now know for sure that Kirsten’s mother is still alive. Her brain “evolved” as part of Project Grasshopper, and Blair is now determined to find her so he can figure out what makes her tick.

Stitchers: Showrunner Jeffrey Alan Schechter on the Sci-Fi Procedural
The ABC Family sci-fi procedural drama Stitchers follows a young woman named Kirsten (Emma Ishta), who is recruited into a covert government agency to be “stitched” into the minds of the recently deceased, using their memories to investigate murders and decipher mysteries that will help solve crimes. Making up the rest of the team, headed by skilled covert operations veteran Maggie (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), is Cameron (Kyle Harris), a brilliant neuro-scientist, a socially immature bio-electrical engineer and communications technician named Linus (Ritesh Rajan) and Kirsten’s roommate, Camille (Allison Scagliotti), a gifted computer science grad student. During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, showrunner Jeffrey Alan Schechter talked about how the series evolved, what made ABC Family a good fit, exactly what “stitching” is, the process for deciding Kirsten’s medical condition, designing the look of the memories, putting together this team of actors, coming up with relatable cases, the skin-tight catsuit,...

Stitchers Review: Looking for Signs of Life
Who would ever have guessed that two procedurals focusing on entering the minds of the recently deceased to solve crimes would be competing across the summer TV landscape? What a time to be dead. In one (the CW’s iZombie) the heroine eats the brains to get to the matter of the brain matter, while in the other, (ABC Family’s Stitchers), she is zoomed into neural space through some pretty dubious-sounding tech. Stitchers, created by Jeffrey Alan Schechter (Brink!) has the misfortune of premiering after iZombie claimed its fanbase. That means that to succeed, it needs to be better. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. [caption id="attachment_466485" align="alignright" width="350"] Image via ABC Family/caption] In Stitchers, an “emotionally void” (but brilliant, of course) young women, Kirsten (Emma Ishta), is recruited by a secret agency into the Stitcher Program. Here, explained through some fast-talking mumbo jumbo, an individual in a...

Stitchers Review – ABC Family Hits Sci-Fi Home Run
Many shows live and die by their main character’s ability to make you stop caring about anything else that might be sub-par. You may need a semblance of general story, depending on how hard you push the episodic nature of the show, but if you have the right lead, you only need above-average plot lines to keep people in their seats.

Stitchers has a lot in common with House M.D. in this regard. The cases were often intriguing, and though the perpetual doubt of House’s abilities grew tiring, the overall arc was pretty good. Still, Hugh Laurie made the show.

The plot of Stitchers is a “sci-fi fun” one, which for ABC Family means it balances the “need to know” with the “just play along,” and it doesn’t overwork the complexities of things, nor does it talk down to the audience… much. It’s solid, though perhaps...
