Prison Break was revived — and not for the first time — on Netflix last year when it was added to the platform and topped Nielsen charts for months straight. This prompted Hulu to greenlight a Prison Break reboot near the end of 2024, one that reportedly had no plans to bring back any former Prison Break stars. However, this didn’t stop fans from speaking their mind, with many calling for original stars Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller to return as Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows. Purcell, who is also known for his work as Mick Rory in DC’s Arrowverse, decided he’s heard enough. Purcell took to his personal Instagram to definitively respond to the rumors, shutting them down and confirming he will not return in the Prison Break reboot.
The Prison Break reboot is reportedly set in the same universe as the original Prison Break, but featuring all-new characters.

The new series hails from Mayans M.C. co-creator Elgin James, and while the exact plot is still under wraps, it’s clear this version of Prison Break is putting together a crew that could rival Michael, Linc, Sucre and T-Bag.

The Prison Break reboot at Hulu may not be giving us another season with Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), but it is giving us quite the new cast to make up for it. According to a new report from Variety, the Elgin James-created reboot has cast three series regulars — and they all come from majorly successful shows.
Emily Browning, Lukas Gage, and Drake Rodger have been cast to lead the show for the pilot episode that has been ordered by the streamer. And while you may not know those names off the top of your head, you absolutely know their faces and have likely seen (and loved!) at least one thing they have done in recent years.
Set in the same world as the original Prison Break, but telling an entirely new story of its own, the show will focus on three characters to be played by the actors above.

And he’s about to butt heads with Halo star Pablo Schreiber's Ray Merrimen, the leader of an equally elite gang of thieves. Cue the gruff masculinity and explosions.
While Den of Thieves has grown in popularity over the years, the movie was panned upon release, landing a score of just 41% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Reboots are all the rage now, and here’s a quick rundown of every network show that is getting the treatment!
“Everything old is new again” surely applies to TV these days. It’s like you can’t flip a channel or put on a streamer without a new take on an old show, some of which went off the air not that long ago. Paramount+ just canceled the revival of Fraiser and some old cable shows like White Collar may get the sequel treatment soon.
For network shows, it looks like reboots won’t be dying anytime soon. Networks rely on name recognition for a TV show and often help if the original actors or creators take part in it. Some shows may seem to not need a reboot, while others are shows fans would love to see coming back.

During the early 2000s, American television was laden with captivating crime drama series. Iconic shows like The Wire, Law and Order, and Criminal Minds dominated the airwaves and brought acclaim to the genre. Award-winning series Dexter, Numb3rs and Breaking Bad enjoyed fruitful television runs as well, but there is a 20-year-old crime drama series that arguably outshines its peers — Prison Break. Created by Paul Scheuring, Prison Break is a 2005 crime drama series that aired on Fox for four seasons and was revived in 2017 for a fifth and final season. The series follows a man, Michael Scofield, on his mission to break his brother out of prison. Michael is convinced that his brother, Lincoln Burrows, is innocent of the crime for which he was committed, which was the murder of the vice president’s brother. Alex Mahone had one of the most dramatic changes of all of Prison Break's characters, yet William Finchter's villain was not in season 5. Prison Break might have begun on a relatively small scale, with most of the main characters in Prison Break just trying to escape from Fox River Penitentiary. That said, as the show went on, Prison Break's story expanded to include an escape from a different prison and a government conspiracy that had overtaken the prison theme by season 4. By then, some of Prison Break's main characters had switched sides, including Michael and Lincoln's former nemesis, Alex Mahone.
Alexander Mahone was originally introduced as the ruthless, drug-addicted FBI agent whose intelligence matched Michael Scofield's. However, over time, he grew to sympathize with him, and Mahone's change of heart was one of the most unexpected things to happen in Prison Break. Similarly, some of the...

Prison Break seemed to lose its way as the series progressed, but the upcoming Prison Break reboot could fix its biggest mistake by bringing a character back. When it first aired in 2005, the series quickly became one of the most compelling crime shows of all time, with Prison Break spin-offs, and even a movie. Season 1 focused on Michael's mission to break Lincoln out of prison, and the subsequent escape of the "Fox River Eight." Season 2 dealt with the resulting manhunt, set against a wider conspiracy. This storyline introduced a more dangerous kind of villain to Prison Break.
Most of season 1's villains were sadistic guards and powerful inmates. However, when the main characters escape into the world again, they are pitted against a new set of villains, who have the law (and even the president) on their side. One of these is FBI agent Alex Mahone, whose intelligence and problem-solving ability match Michael's.

It's time for a new generation to enjoy what should be a one-season premise that is stretched beyond the realm of probability yet is completely entertaining from start to finish. Prison Break became a signature hit for Fox when it premiered in 2005, and now a new chapter is one step closer to becoming a reality thanks to Hulu.
Per Deadline, a new version of Prison Break has been handed a pilot order at Hulu courtesy of Elgin James, the man behind Mayans M.C. and The Outlaws. Plot details are being kept locked up as tight as the would-be prisoners, but the new take will reportedly be set in the same universe with a new story and cast. That means that fans of Wentworth Miller's Michael Scofield and Dominic Purcell's Lincoln Burrows will have to get attached to a new group of people trying to escape their prison walls.

The new iteration of the series, from “Mayans M.C.” co-creator and showrunner Elgin James and 20th Television, is not expected to feature the characters at the center of the original jailhouse drama, Michael Scofield (played by Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). Rather, it will exist in the same universe as the original “Prison Break” but focus on a new crew of inmates.
James executive produces alongside Dawn Olmstead, “Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz. In addition to the “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff “Mayans,” James also co-created with Stephen Merchant the Amazon Studios/BBC One series “The Outlaws,” starring Christopher Walken.

Hulu's preparing to spend some time behind the walls with a planned reboot of the hit series Prison Break. A new take on the show, this one from Elgin James, has just taken a major step forward toward becoming a reality.
Per Deadline, Hulu has officially ordered a pilot for the Prison Break reboot. Should the streamer be satisfied with the pilot, a series order will be next. The project comes from James, known for co-creating FX's Sons of Anarchy spinoff series, Mayans M.C., as well as the BBC/Prime Video series The Outlaws. The potential spinoff with James was first reported to be in early development last year, and finally getting its pilot order follows the original Prison Break recently getting a resurgence in viewership on Netflix after a 2-year hiatus on that platform.

Prison Break ended in 2017 after five seasons on Fox Network, and Prison Break season 6 will unfortunately never happen. The series was a huge success for Fox, especially in the early seasons, and was one of the earliest shows to be widely binged on Netflix. Prison Break was one of the most thrilling shows on television, prompting some speculation as to the possibility of a sixth-season reboot. The series did have a reboot, of sorts, with Prison Break season 5 coming out nine years after season 4.
However, the reboot ended poorly, with Prison Break season 5 coming nowhere near the success its earlier seasons enjoyed. Prison Break attracted a massive fan base during its original four-season run, and despite season 5's failings, many were excited about the prospect of the series continuing. However, a few things came into play that would mean that Prison Break would be canceled after season 5 and a sixth...

When the hit crime drama did return in 2017 for Season 5, fans were left scratching their heads when a much shorter season ignored Michael's death, one of many ridiculously far-fetched stories and subplots that undermined the dramatic impact of the four seasons before it. Hit Fox drama Prison Break has enjoyed an unexpected climb of more than 100% on streaming platform Netflix, seven years after its divisive revival season. Debuting on Fox in 2005, the show starred Wentworth Miller as Michael Schofield, a young man who is deliberately imprisoned in order to break out his brother, Death Row inmate Lincoln Burrows (played by Dominic Purcell), before his execution for a crime he didn't commit. The show initially ran for four seasons consisting of 79 episodes, to largely positive acclaim, and concluded with the television movie Prison Break: The Final Break in 2009, before its controversial revival in 2017.
According to reports in Deadline, Prison Break has raced to the top spot of the Nielsen overall streaming list, after finding a new lease of life on Netflix. A successful run saw the series soar 111% from the previous week, after it landed on the streaming giant after seven years off the air.

The 2000s have long been considered to be one of the last great eras of scripted television. From Lost and 24, to The Wire and Mad Men, the decade provided audiences with shows that were so well written they rivaled anything that was playing in theaters. Smack-dab in the middle of it all came the crime drama Prison Break, which was easily one of the most original series to hit the airwaves in 2005. With the first episode watched by more than 10 million people, it was an instant hit for Fox, and now, 15 years after its original run came to an end, its finding a whole new audience thanks to streaming.

T-Bag's evolution from ruthless criminal to sympathetic villain blurs moral lines for viewers of Prison Break. Robert Knepper's portrayal adds depth to T-Bag, challenging the perception of him as a one-dimensional antagonist. Despite his heinous crimes, T-Bag's backstory and moments of humanity make him a complex character in the series.
With the fifth and final season of Prison Break recently joining Netflix, a whole new audience has been introduced to Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell (Robert Knepper), the most ruthless member of the Fox River Eight. Although T-Bag has been a mainstay since Season 1, the evolution of the villainous criminal takes an unexpected sympathetic turn. In August 2005, the world was introduced to Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, two brothers turned inmates at a Level 1 prison, trying to make a run for it … trying to, you know, Prison Break. The series from creator Paul T. Scheuring (Den of Thieves) garnered more than 10 million viewers when it premiered, and went on to receive a slew of accolades, including Golden Globe nominations for Best Drama and Best Actor. Prison Break ran for five seasons and led to a couple spin-offs, Prison Break: Proof of Innocence and Prison Break: The Final Break. And now, nearly two decades later, it’s high time to become acquainted (or reacquainted) with the ingenious criminal mind of Michael (Wentworth Miller), his tough-as-nails brother, Linc (Dominic Purcell), and all their allies and enemies at Fox River State Pen.

However, there are a large number of shows and movies confirmed for the service this year, and you can check out The Streamable’s most-anticipated among those below!

A new iteration of Fox‘s Prison Break is in the works at Hulu from Mayans M.C. creator Elgin James. James is writing and executive producing the series, per Deadline, marking his first project since Mayans M.C. ended earlier this year. The new series is described as a new chapter set within the world of the original series. Original characters Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), are not expected to be part of it. Both characters were central to the original series, which debuted in 2005, and the 2017 followup. The original Prison Break creative team is involved in this new chapter. Original series creator/executive producer Paul Scheuring and original executive producers Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz are all working with James. The series is part of James’ overall deal with 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios, which also served as the studio for the original show.
