The ’90s have always been a tricky decade to define for horror, offering everything from cable and physical home releases to big budget horror. On the latter front, horror experimented with grand period pieces like Interview with the Vampire and Bram Stoker’s Dracula as much as it did with spectacle driven, action-heavy creature features.

The decade delivered no shortage of memorable monster movies that emphasized creature FX and entertainment, from theatrical releases to home video offerings.

This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to ’90s monster movies that delivered high-energy, fun, and inventive monster designs. Because it’s Monday, we can use more horror fun.

While I know most tend to associate actor Zach Galligan with the movie 'Gremlins,' for me growing up I was always a bigger fan of his portrayal of Mark in the 'Waxwork' movies. After all, he got to fight all the classic Universal monsters, go up against the Waxwork proprietor played by the great David Warner and was friends (and potentially more?) with mega-babes Michelle Johnson (China) and Deborah Foreman (Sarah). I've always had a great deal of affection for the first 'Waxwork' because not only is it a perfect blend of horror and comedy, but because it was also an all out monster mash that didn't skimp out on the monsters or the gore.
