Warren Ellis’s reimagining of Dracula in Netflix’s Castlevania series offers a fresh perspective that diverges significantly from the character’s traditional depiction in the original video game franchise. Unlike the purely malevolent villain of the games, Ellis portrays Dracula as a complex, emotionally vulnerable figure driven by profound grief and a desire for vengeance following the loss of his beloved wife, Lisa Tepes.
Dracula as seen in Castlevania | Netflix
In Castlevania, Dracula’s motivations are rooted in deep pain and love, making his character more relatable and compelling. Ellis emphasizes Dracula’s humanity, transforming him from a one-dimensional antagonist into a tragic figure. This nuanced portrayal allows viewers to see Dracula not just as a villain, but as a deeply wounded character, enriching the narrative with emotional depth and complexity.

Fans may contrast the character of Dracula with the conventional video game franchise.

Timmy Turner was an average kid that no one understood. Now, in the first trailer for “The Fairly Oddparents: Fairly Odder,” we get to meet some other members of his family.
The new series, set to hit Paramount+ at the end of March, focuses on Timmy’s cousin, Vivian “Viv” Turner (Audrey Grace Marshall), and her new stepbrother, Roy Raskin (Tyler Wladis), as they navigate life in Dimmsdale with the help of the wacky fairies we know and love: Cosmo and Wanda.
Timmy himself will make an appearance in order to gift Cosmo and Wanda to the kids. And yes, he’s still wearing his classic pink hat. But, in place of his pink shirt, he’s wearing a Princeton sweatshirt — which might surprise fans of the original series, considering his relationship with school.
You can watch the full trailer for “The Fairly Oddparents: Fairly Odder” in the video here and above.

Animation luminary Fred Seibert’s FredFilms will team up with Chinese content production firm DeZerlin Entertainment for an incubator projected called “Hot Pot! Cartoons,” which hopes to bring emerging Chinese talent and content out to the global market.

Netflix has ordered a “Castlevania” spinoff series from the original show’s producers, the streaming service revealed Friday. The spinoff is focused on Maria Renard and Richter Belmont, the son of Sypha and Trevor, and set in 1792 France during the French Revolution.
The “Castlevania” franchise launched in the late 1980s as an action-adventure gothic horror video game series about vampire hunters. It was created and developed by Konami.
After many, many more installments, Netflix turned “Castlevania” into an anime series — the very first for the streaming service. The 10-episode fourth and final season premiered last month.
“Castlevania,” the series, is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, who’s trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepes himself. Its voice cast included James Callis, Emily Swallow, Matt Frewer, Tony Amendola and Alejandra Reynoso.

Marking further dynamic expansion, ViacomCBS International Studios (Vis) and Ricardo Siri Liniers, Argentina’s best known cartoonist and children’s book author-illustrator, have announced they will adapt Liniers’ latest graphic novel, “Wildflowers.”
The project rolls off a development deal between Vis, ViacomCBS’ global production arm, and Liniers that was announced by Vis Kids at Kidscreen in February. This mentions the “adaptation of an upcoming book.”
“Wildflowers” (“Flores Salvajes”) marks the final part of a beginning readers’ graphic novel trilogy begun by “The Big Wet Balloon,” Liniers’ U.S. debut in 2013, and continued by 2017’s “Good Night, Planet.”
All three are odes to Liniers’ own three daughters. “As soon as I took a photo of my three young daughters looking at the jungle in Yukatan, México, I began to imagine this book,” Liniers has said. The three graphic novels also pay tribute, however, to the more general joy of childhood play and its imaginative powers.

Exclusive: The upcoming 10-episode fourth season of Netflix’s anime series Castlevania will be its last, Deadline has learned. It will premiere May 13 (see key art below).
While Castlevania, based on the classic Konami video game, will be coming to an end, the world it created may live on. I hear Netflix is eyeing a new series set in the same Castlevania universe with an entirely new cast of characters.
Castlevania was a key series in the evolution of Netflix’s original programming. It launched in July 2017 as the streamer’s first original anime series and the second adult animated comedy after F Is For Family. It quickly developed a devoted following and was well received by critics. The show’s second season scored a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and landed an IGN Award for Best Animated TV Series in 2018.

With every day that passes, Castlevania season 3 creeps ever closer.
Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for the new installment, but this past weekend, the online streaming giant posted a suitably stylish first-look image for the show’s third season, teasing old faces and new threats.
Embedded below, the HD pic features a pretty formidable foursome, though Carmilla is the only one we recognize off the bat. Castlevania fans will no doubt remember her villainous role all throughout season 2, and the fact that she’s back to reprise her part only portends all kinds of danger for Trevor Belmont. Moreover, that the other three characters are pictured front and center suggests they’ll each play an integral role in the story of Castlevania season 3, which Netflix describes as so:

Netflix’s cutest death-metal fan is returning for more face-melting good times. The streaming service announced Monday at Anime Expo it has renewed “Aggretsuko” for Season 2.
The charming anime series follows 25-year-old red panda Retsuko, who works an oppressive office job by day and vents her frustrations through death metal karaoke at night. The series examines micro-aggressions, sexism, and the pressures society puts on people to conform to a specific “good” person image.
In the Season 1 review, IndieWire noted, “As it stands, this delightful season is more like filling up on Costco samples than a more substantial series binge. That’s no doubt part of its charm. If Netflix sees fit to renew it for another season, however, there’s definitely an appetite for meatier fare.”

The former Epix executive who was indicted in 2016 for stealing nearly $8 million from the premium cabler will learn his fate Friday when he is sentenced by a federal judge in Manhattan.
Prosecutors are seeking a prison term of four to five years for Emil Rensing, the former chief digital officer of Epix. Rensing, 44, last year pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud.
Prosecutors described Rensing’s scheme as “a sophisticated and calculated fraud” that involved Rensing setting up phony vendors, submitting bogus invoices to Epix for work that was never performed and signing the names of some of his former business associates to invoices without their knowledge. He was originally charged in April 2016 with one count of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Rensing was fired from Epix in August 2015 after executives became suspicious of billing practices in his department.

Warren Ellis writes the series, which is based on the video game of the same name. He also executive produces with Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar. While the first season consists of four, 30-minute installments, according to Deadline, the season two order is for eight episodes. Few would argue that July 7th belongs to Spider-Man: Homecoming, but over on Netflix, there’s another high-profile release ready to take flight, and it ought to appeal to those old-school gamers pining for some fantastical nostalgia.
Its name? Castlevania, a four-part animated series conceived by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert, and Dredd producer Adi Shankar. Split across two seasons – the second and seemingly conclusive chapter will air via Netflix in 2018 – Castlevania stays true to the Konami classic in that it follows the disgraced Belmont clan as they rise up against Count Dracula in order to bring peace to Transylvania.

If you grew up in the age of the Nes then you are more than likely familiar with the franchise classic Castlevania. Outside of Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, many would argue that Castlevania would be the next most reputable name in the early system's history. Some individuals, including myself, freaked out when we heard that our beloved Belmont family would be coming to the small-screen. At first I was somewhat disappointed it would not be live-action, but the anime-inspired depiction has been described as more adult in tone and "Game of Thrones-like". Below is the official Netflix description for the series:
"Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios,...

Some great new promo art has surfaced for Netflix's new animated Castlevania series. What I love about this is that it was awesomely inspired by the original Nes box art, only it's done in the same animation style as the game. The art features the main character Simon Belmont wielding his whip as he faces the castle in the distance, with Dracula looking over the sinister castle.
Last week the first trailer was released for the new series, which you need to check out here in case you missed it. This show looks like it's going to be so cool and the trailer definitely got me excited for it. I was such a huge fan of the original game and it's so fun to see this new series call back to that game that many of us grew up playing.

This coming July, Netflix audiences will be introduced to the world of Castlevania. Of course, being based on the video game of the same name, gamers have already been living in this world for decades. However, whereas the games have largely been focused on gameplay, music, and aesthetics, the new series will finally bring story to the forefront — a story that’s often just served as a backdrop and haphazard justification for the action.
But don’t think that just because the focus has switched away from gameplay that they have their priorities in all the wrong places. Executive producer Adi Shankar has been pretty adamant that Castlevania will end up as the best video game adaptation up to this point (admittedly, it’s not an incredibly high bar). That may mean very little, but Shankar has always come across as a real fanboy, and based on that initial teaser...

For generations, the Belmont Clan has waged war on Count Dracula in the name of Transylvania, and their heroics have inspired countless tales of supernatural adventure.
But in two months’ time, that saga will be summoned onto the small screen thanks to Netflix’s animated Castlevania series. Comprised of four 3o-minute episodes in total – keep in mind that a second (and final?) batch of four episodes is expected to drop sometime next year – producer Adi Shankar has allayed fears that Netflix’s serialized spin on the video game classic would stray too far from the source material.
Not only that, but it’ll seemingly have a “Game of Thrones vibe to it,” which tells us that Shankar and the creative team have rustled up an adult-oriented video game adaptation. Celebrated comic author Warren Ellis is the brains behind the script, and though it’s far too soon to gauge the...

According to IMDb, the first season was penned by “Iron Man 3” writer Warren Ellis. The series is produced by Adi Shankar (“Dredd”), along with “Adventure Time” co-producers Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. The “super violent” miniseries “is going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head,” Shankar wrote on Facebook back in 2015.
This past February, after Netflix announced it was developing the series, Shankar told Collider, “I’m personally guaranteeing that this is going...

If you grew up with a video game controller in both hands and fancied yourself a Belmont, then your nostalgia sense is about to tingle now that Netflix has revealed the first teaser trailer for their new Castlevania series, coming out on July 7th.

Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming Castlevania animated series and it's pretty exciting! This is the same series that's being developed by Adi Shankar (Dredd) and Fred Seibert (Fairly OddParents, Adventure Time). As you'll see, the show went with a beautiful anime art style to tell the story, which works perfectly for the property. It's been said that the series has a Game of Thrones vibe to it and it certainly shows in this trailer.
I'm a big fan of the Castlevania video game franchise and I can't wait to watch this cool looking series! Here's the synopsis:
