The creative teams behind seven Oscar-nominated shorts took part in TheWrap’s Screening Series on Monday, where filmmakers discussed their work ahead of the 97th annual Academy Awards on March 2. Two showcases — live-action/documentary shorts and animated shorts — were held at The Culver Theater in Culver City, California, with both Q&a sessions moderated by TheWrap’s Executive Editor of Awards, Steve Pond.

The first showcase celebrated three nominated films in the live-action and documentary shorts categories.

The film follows Carroll’s decades-long journey, including into active war zones, to find “the most extraordinary war letters ever written” from the American Revolution to the present day. Behind the Lines differs from other war letters-related films in that it includes correspondences from the home front as well as by civilians who are literally “caught in the crossfire.”

The coronavirus pandemic has not deterred Los Angeles-based actor-filmmakers Darwin Shaw and Will Hawkes.

The duo has launched “The Antiviral Film Project” in recent weeks as a collage of 19 shorts made by 19 film crews from 19 global communities for 19 charities, leading to three films that will be produced in traditional fashion once self-isolation ends.

“The Antiviral Film Project aims to create a new kind of international motion picture anthology about the global Covid-19 experience,” said Shaw. “It will be a journey told in three chapters — Isolation, Connection and Emergence. We will be documenting the process of virtual development in real-time, producing episodic behind-the-scenes content, taking you on the journey with us and ultimately leading to a three picture cinematic experience.”

Atlantis' talented cast continues to be stymied by underwhelming dialogue and storytelling. Here's Dave's review of White Lies...

1.5 White Lies

First up, let's recap the action of this week's Atlantis.

Whilst a mysterious stranger breaks into the palace and attacks Ariadne, Hercules is betting on beetles. The intruder passes a note to Ariadne, before being injured and caught, setting Ariadne on her own mission, whilst he suffers at the hands of Pasiphae and her dark ways. Thankfully, Ariadne has a plan that involves duping Jason into escorting her handmaiden and it is soon discovered that the poor, mysterious stranger was delivering a note to say that Ariadne’s brother, Therus, the betrayer of his Kingdom, is actually very much alive and well, seeking justice for the lies that have been told about him.

Expect teen romance and palace politics in 'White Lies' - the latest instalment of BBC One's Saturday night adventure series Atlantis.

This week, Ariadne (Aiysha Hart) discovers that her brother - long-thought dead - is actually living in exile outside of Atlantis, and it's not long before the courteous Jason (Jack Donnelly) offers to reunite the pair...

But can the pair possibly hope to evade detection by the devious Pasiphae (Sarah Parish)? And what dark secret is her son Therus (Darwin Shaw) concealing?

Aiysha Hart's Ariadne takes centre stage in this week's Atlantis when she receives some unexpected news from outside the city walls...

The princess calls on Jason (Jack Donnelly) and his friends to help guide her to the source - her own exiled brother Therus (Darwin Shaw) - and soon Ariadne must decide where her loyalties lie, in Atlantis or with her royal sibling.

Therus is determined his sister learns the truth behind his exile, exposing a plot that could overshadow the power of King Minos (Alexander Siddig) and bring the royal family to its knees...

If you read my lengthy exploratory piece examining my theories with regards to Ridley Scott's Prometheus you'll remember on the first page where I mention in the opening scene there originally were two Engineers seen, not just one. Well, instead of just the concept art from "Prometheus: The Art of the Film" as seen above, now courtesy of a Facebook page belonging to Connor O'Sullivan (via Prometheus Forum) we have the following image that shows what the Elder Engineer (played by Matthew Rook) actually looked like. Scott has already said there will be upwards of 28 minutes of deleted scenes on the Prometheus Blu-ray (pre-order it here) and Darwin Shaw, who plays one of the Engineers seen later in the film, commented on Twitter saying, "You'll have to wait for the Directors cut for the full opening scene!" Hollywood actor Darwin Shaw is playing skilled swordsman Will Scarlett, one of Robin Hood's band of outlaws, in a new production at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-on-Avon.

Darwin, pictured above in rehearsals, is among the cast of The Heart of Robin Hood, which is now previewing at the theatre and opens on December 1. It will run until January 7, 2012.

Darwin, a former surgeon, has appeared in TV shows including London's Burning, Wire in the Blood and Holby City and has also been in several big-screen blockbusters.

He played Fisher in Bond fllm Casino Royale, Asoka in video game adaptation Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and Matai Shang in John Carter, the upcoming Disney adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel about a Civil War soldier transported to Mars. John Carter is released on March 9, 2012.

Vamperifica is a new horror comedy from actor and director Bruce Ornstein. The plot breaks down as follows: Carmen, a very flamboyant male, finds unique powers within himself once bitten by a night stalker. A vampire king's soul resides in Carmen and this essence will be unleashed October 14th at this year's Screamfest. Screamfest takes places in Los Angeles every year and this gory festival begins October 14th and continues until October 23rd. Vamperifica will haunt the screens and fans of vampire thrillers or comedies are encouraged to take a look at the film's trailer, which shows all sorts of comedic action. Apparently, not everyone is destined for Broadway!

Bappaditya Bandopadhyay, producer of Sri Lankan filmmaker Vimukthi Jayasundara's third feature film Mushrooms announced today that the film will be part of the Directors' Fortnight selection, which is set to be officially unveiled in about T-minus 36 hours. Jayasundara's debut film The Forsaken Land did quite well for itself when it premiered in Cannes in 2005, winning the Camera d'Or for best debut feature. His next film, Between Two Worlds, premiered at the 2009 Venice Film Festival, and while it didn't win anything, it's picked up some heavy acclaim from the few who have seen it (filmmaker Dan Sallitt lists it in his Top 10 list for 2009). Mushrooms cast includes Hollywood actor Darwin Shaw (Casino Royale, Prince of Persia), who will apparently play a Spanish soldier in the film, as well as Bengali actress Paoli Dam (Kaalbela).
