Vadh in Hindi released in 2022 about a retired school teacher who kills a vile moneylender, got more than its share of attention. Its Marathi remake, Devamanus, is an honourable remake, nothing to get very excited about, but nonetheless a well-meaning exposition on how far evil must be allowed to travel before it gets intolerable.

The crux of the moral dilemma is a little girl whom the villainous loan shark sets his lustful eyes on. The righteous educationist Keshav (Mahesh Manjrekar) hacks the lecherous criminal to death buries his body in the back of the beyond while all his well wishers including his stiff upper lipped wife Laxmi (Renuka Shahane) form a protective cordon around the ‘Devamanus’ a man of God who had to get murderous to vanquish evil.

While the original film was raw and sometimes effective, Devmanus replaces realism with loads of melodrama and a villain who appears more like a parody of villainy.

Subhash K Jha looks back at Tanuja Chandra’s 1998 film Dushman, which starred Kajol in a brilliant performance and Sanjay Dutt. We also hear from the director about the making of the film.

Tanuja Chandra’s grossly underrated film, Dushman, features Kajol in her career-best performance in a double role. When one of the twins is brutally murdered, the other takes revenge. The film was adapted from John Schlesinger’s tepid thriller An Eye For An Eye, where Sally Field avenged the death of her daughter. Several clever changes were made to the original script. In the original, it is the mother (Sally Field) who goes on a vendetta spree against her daughter’s rapist and murderer. Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga Kapoor and filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane are among 16 jury members set to judge 12 competition categories at the 16th edition of India’s Kashish Pride Film Festival.

Joining Monga Kapoor and Motwane are director-producer Abhishek Chaubey and producer Neeraj Churi as jury members for the Kashish QDrishti Film Grant, which awards $3000 to an LGBTQ+ identifying filmmaker to make a short film. Actor Renuka Shahane will support two runners-up.

If you miss any chunk of this peachy fable of a bride, a wedding, and missing mo’bike, you will do so at your own risk.

Firstly, my compliments to the chef and the writers Avinash Dwivedi, Chirag Garg, Salona Bains Joshi, and Shubh Shivdasani for a screenplay that simply rocks. For those of us who believe that too many cooks spoil the broth, here is proof to the contrary. Set in the fictional crime-free village of Dhadakpur, Dupahiya is an upcoming series starring Gajraj Rao and Renuka Shahane. The nine-episode series weaves fun and drama with small-town charm, brought to life by a superbly talented cast, including Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, Bhuvan Arora, Sparsh Shrivastava, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashpal Sharma in key roles. Prime Video is revving up its Indian originals slate with “Dupahiya,” a heartland comedy series that blends small-town charm with a quirky caper.

The nine-episode series, which marks the debut production from Bombay Film Cartel banner, follows the mayhem that erupts in the fictional village of Dhadakpur when a prized motorcycle goes missing just as the community is about to celebrate 25 years of being crime-free. The show’s title “Dupahiya” translates to “two-wheeler” in Hindi.

New Delhi, Aug 22 (Ians) Megastar Amitabh Bachchan revealed that actress Madhuri Dixit Nene had adopted her dog ‘Redo’, after the shoot of musical romantic drama ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’.

During the sixth episode of the quiz based reality show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, Big B had asked contestant Kunal Sinh Dodia from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, “Which animal acts as an umpire in the film ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’?” The options were – An elephant, A bird, A cat and A dog.

Kunal gave the right answer, which was the dog.

Big B then says: “Redo is an Indian Spitz dog. He had played the role of Tuffy in Sooraj Barjatya’s blockbuster film ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’. In one scene, it was shown as an empire in a cricket match. And after the shooting got over, Madhuri Dixit had adopted the dog.”

Actress Renuka Shahane recently went to watch the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer action film ‘Pathaan’ with her husband Ashutosh Rana, which also stars him in the role of Srk’s top boss. She took to Twitter and shared the picture from the movie date.

In the first photo, Ashutosh and Renuka sat inside a car as they wore ethnic outfits. The second selfie was clicked inside the theatre as the duo smiled and posed for the camera.

Just for the pleasure of watching Vicky Kaushal and Kiara Advani play a couple of losers, Govinda Naam Mera is worth a dekko. Writer-director Shashank Khaitan displays a funnybone even when the writing gets overly zonked-out. There is an inherent sense of fun intended in the naggingly crazy goings-on that make us laugh out loud even when we don’t want to.

Kaushal and Advani are a riot as a couple of struggling choreographers . One of the high points in the comedy is the trashy song Pappi jhappi where Kaushal and Kiara just let themselves go. It is meant to be an awful song, sung by a doped out zero-talent son of a politician . Hats off to the Meet Bros for composing an appropriately awful song . Most artistes when asked to project mediocrity can’t get it right.

In the latest episode of ‘Bigg Boss 16’, Bollywood superstar talked about getting “dropped” by girls along with guests Vicky Kaushal and Kiara Advani in the show.

Kiara and Vicky came on the sets of ‘Bigg Boss 16’ to promote their film ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ on the show.

Vicky asked Salman Khan: “Did any girl use any pick-up line on you? And if yes, what’s the worst pick-up line you have heard?”

Salman replied jokingly as he laughed: “Pick up ka toh pata nahi lekin ladki ne drop zaroor kiya hai mujhe.”

He then added: “Well, to be honest, I don’t remember any such pick up line.”

Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Govinda Naam Mera also stars Bhumi Pednekar and Renuka Shahane in lead roles. The film is a murder mystery and it landed online on Disney+ Hotstar on December 16.
