Michael Shaara, he sold the film rights to The Killer Angels to filmmaker
Ron Maxwell, who filmed it as
Gettysburg (1993). Maxwell also encouraged him to continue his father's work to write about the rest of the Civil War. Jeff did so with a prequel, Gods and Generals, and a sequel, The Last Full Measure. He has also used his father's historical fiction approach to write about the American Revolution, Mexican-American War ,World War I and World War II and the Korean War.
