“Only Murders in the Building” is back with Season 5, debuting Sept. 9, and Hulu has released a trailer showcasing the comedy’s new mystery — and its stacked cast.
The half-hour series stars Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez who team up as amateur investigators and true crime podcasters after a string of suspicious murders occur in their New York apartment complex.
In Season 5, the trio’s doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca) dies under mysterious circumstances, and Charles (Martin), Oliver (Short), and Mabel (Gomez) refuse to accept the results of the police report. “A guy fills a fountain with blood in the most murderous building in New York. They say it’s accidental?” Charles asks his crime-solving compatriots in the trailer.
Once again, they work together to uncover the true story of Lester’s death, plunging into the darkest corners of New York and beyond to reveal “a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires,...

It's always exciting to watch Saturday Night Live's best duos reunite onscreen any chance they get. We love watching Amy Poehler and Tina Fey doing anything together (especially with Maya Rudolph!), Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig riffing in some hilarious bit, and Poehler cracking in-jokes with her pal and Weekend Update partner Seth Meyers. But that's just the tip of the iceberg of amazing SNL duos.
Maybe you missed the exciting news, but we're about to be treated to a Saturday Night Live reunion that's both a long time coming and one we didn't see coming. Two of the most iconic SNL stars, who starred in a film based on one of their most popular sketches, are joining forces once again after over a decade in an upcoming Netflix original comedy series. Who else is already sold?!

A Saturday Night Live reunion is coming to Netflix. Will Ferrell will reunite with one of his former co-stars in his upcoming Netflix comedy series centered around a fictional golf legend.
Netflix announced, via its Tudum website, that Molly Shannon has joined the untitled comedy series as Stacy. She will appear in all 10 episodes. Shannon and Ferrell's respective times as cast members on SNL almost perfectly sync up, with the two both joining in 1995. However, Shannon left in 2001, while Ferrell didn't depart the hit sketch comedy series until 2002. In the years since SNL, Shannon has starred in the films A Good Person, Promising Young Woman, Other People, Scary Movie 4 and Scary Movie 5, as well as the television series The White Lotus, Divorce, The Other Two, and I Love That For You. She most recently appeared in the fourth season of Hulu's Only Murders in the Building.

Molly Shannon has signed on to star opposite Will Ferrell in Netflix’s forthcoming ten-episode golf comedy, reuniting the longtime collaborators on screen for the first time in more than a decade. Ferrell will portray a legendary pro whose dominance is tested when a breakaway league upends the sport, a premise loosely modeled on the real-world PGA-liv rivalry. Shannon’s character, Stacy, is described by the streamer as the blunt confidante who keeps the superstar’s ego in check.

Molly Shannon will join her former Saturday Night Live co-star Will Ferrell in a Netflix comedy series, which is also undergoing some off-camera changes.

Ramy Youssef, Josh Rabinowitz and Andy Campagna have exited as executive producers of Will Ferrell’s upcoming golf comedy series at Netflix due to creative differences.
Variety understands that the leadership change took place last year. Youssef and Rabinowitz were originally announced as co-showrunners in addition to having created the series with Ferrell, who stars as a fictional gold legend. Campagna was executive producing via Youssef’s Cairo Cowboy production banner. Cairo Cowboy continues to work with Netflix on an untitled living facility series in development with Steve Way, Youssef’s close friend and collaborator.
Separately, Molly Shannon has joined the series in the role of Stacy. The project reunites her with Ferrell, as the two overlapped as “Saturday Night Live” cast members from 1995 to 2001. More recently, she starred in Season 4 of “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu and all three seasons of HBO Max’s “The Other Two,...

At 80 years old, Lorne Michaels isn't getting any younger. The Saturday Night Live boss' age has led to more and more speculation about who could replace him, even if Michaels hasn't set a retirement date. Former SNL cast member Molly Shannon recently shared her take on the topic.
The 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live seemed like the perfect time for Michaels to ride off into the sunset, leaving behind an impressive legacy as the creator and visionary behind the iconic show. But he never definitiely said he was leaving, nor has he given any concrete evidence to suggest he has an exit plan. And if he does, he's not sharing it with the world.
So, that means SNL fans and alumni are free to speculate. That includes Molly Shannon, who spoke with People about Lorne Michaels' replacement.
Shannon admitted that anyone attempting to fill Michaels' shoes would face an uphill battle.

Rumors about Lorne Michaels' retirement from Saturday Night Live have been running rampant as of late, and former cast member Molly Shannon knows exactly who should replace him. Michaels has served as the showrunner of the NBC sketch comedy variety series since he created it in 1975. 50 years later, it might be time for someone else to take over the role.
During an interview with People, Shannon (who served as a cast member from 1995 to 2001) discussed who should succeed Michaels as Saturday Night Live's showrunner. At first, she said, "Lorne is irreplaceable ... He's just a one-of-a-kind genius. Brilliant. Smart." However, when asked about the idea of veteran SNL star Kenan Thompson replacing Michaels, Shannon was more than onboard. She said:
"I love this idea. He's the greatest — I adore Kenan. [Kenan is] so talented. That's an excellent idea."

Molly Shannon recently weighed in on who could one day replace Saturday Night Live creator and producer Lorne Michaels, 80. During a sit-down for People in 10, the actress and comedian, 60, opened up about who might be up for the role of SNL showrunner when Michaels eventually steps down. Shannon appeared on the late-night sketch comedy series from 1995 to 2001, memorably portraying the character Mary Katherine Gallagher, among countless others. “It’s his show, his vision,” Shannon said of Michaels, who created SNL in 1975. “There’s no one who could replace him. It would not be the same show. He’s just a one-of-a-kind genius. Brilliant. Last year, Only Murders in the Building scored its most Emmy nominations yet with 21 — 10 more than the total it nabbed the year prior for its second season and four more than it earned for Season 1. But can it go even bigger this year with Season 4?
The murder mystery is coming off its best winter awards run following double surprise victories at the Screen Actors Guild Awards for Martin Short's performance and comedy ensemble. They are the show's first major industry prizes — perhaps a preview of its first major Emmy win? Stories that deal with suicide aren’t easy to sit through—but sometimes, they’re the ones we need most. In a world where mental health still struggles to be talked about openly, movies about suicide serve not just as mirrors, but as quiet lifelines. They help put into words—and pictures—feelings that are often buried too deep to explain. Whether it’s a character’s internal breakdown or the aftermath of a tragic decision, these narratives carry the weight of what it means to be human, fallible, and searching for a reason to stay. Movies about suicide that you can stream on Netflix aren’t just depressing dramas. They offer moments of grace, resilience, and even humor, wrapped around the gravity of the subject. Here are 10 such films that handle these complex emotions with sincerity and care.

Saturday Night Livefan-favorite Colin Jost was very nervus going into the show's 50th Anniversary Special. The comedian recently revealed that some fear crept in when he realized he would be writing for Eddie Murphy.
Speaking with Variety, alongside Mike Myers, Marcello Hernández, and Sarah Sherman, Jost recalled writing for the comedy legend for the SNL 50: The Anniversary Special. "That is who I was most nervous to write for - Eddie Murphy," he admitted. Jost went on to mention trying not to project his own worst fears onto Murphy, whose demeanor was described as "taciturn" by Myers. One of the great joys in watching HBO's "The White Lotus" is witnessing its immaculate ensemble cast each season. From breakout talents to generational stars, showrunner Mike White and casting director Meredith Tucker always assemble an exciting, diverse team of actors and actresses to match wits and even trade spars, making for an exciting prestige TV experience. Some of them play into their effortlessly executed character types, while others surprise us with new dimensions to their traditional personas.
At the time of this writing, audiences have already spent three suspenseful stays at The White Lotus, and a fourth is already on schedule. This anthology series -- though some wonder if it can still be called an anthology -- will need a new cast soon enough, so the question remains: Who should we see next? Back in the 1990s, sketch comedy was mostly dominated by "Saturday Night Live." After a rough patch in the 1980s, the series rose to prominence again thanks to the talents of "Wayne's World" stars Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon, and more. But during this time, there were also a series of worthy, alternative sketch comedy competitors that offered a nice change of pace from the mainstream network laughs of "SNL."
From the delightfully Canadian comedy of "Kids in the Hall," to the diverse hilarity of "In Living Color," the short-lived but brilliant "The Dana Carvey Show," to the madness of "Upright Citizens Brigade," there was a sketch comedy show for everyone. But perhaps the series that would go on to have the biggest impact in pop culture's future was MTV's "The State," named after the comedy troupe of the same name.

Year after year, Only Murders in the Building manages to defy the norms of modern streaming and release new episodes on a yearly cadence. Heading into Season 5, co-creators John Hoffman and Steve Martin don't appear to be slowing down much yet, either. Production officially got underway back in March, and things appear to be very quickly ramping up once again, with a handful of new casting announcements to fill out the usual stable of big-name guests. According to executive producer Dan Fogelman, the end is in sight, and it may not be too long before the podcast trio is back to cracking mysteries once again.
In a conversation with Collider's Aidan Kelley on the red carpet of the Newport Beach TV Fest, Fogelman discussed where exactly Omitb was in production after three months of work. "Well, I mean it’s great," he said. "I’ve seen six of the ten episodes already.

To date, Emmy voters have showered Only Murders in the Building with 49 nominations and seven wins, though none of the main actors has prevailed. That could all change for the buzzed-about fourth season, which aired last summer and is now eligible at the 2025 Emmys.
According to our updated odds, Martin Short (Oliver Putnam) is out front to win his Best Comedy Actor category, just months after he shockingly scored at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. His costars, Steve Martin (Charles-Haden Savage) and Selena Gomez (Mabel Mora), are both in sixth place for nominations. The three leads play unlikely crime-solvers who podcast about murders that occur in and around their building, the fancy-schmancy Arconia in New York City.
Season 4 features a sprawling roster of special guests, including two actors — Meryl Streep (Loretta Durkin) and Paul Rudd (Glen Stubbins) — who received supporting nominations last year. Due to an already-controversial new Emmy rule,...

The 85th Annual Peabody Awards offered a night where truth was the headliner, courage was the theme, and storytelling wasn’t just celebrated—it was revered.
Roy Wood Jr., host of the American adaptation of Have I Got News for You on CNN, emceed this year's award show, held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on June 1. "This is a little different from [hosting] the White House Correspondents' Dinner or the Writers Guild Awards,” Wood told Gold Derby before the show. “These people here tonight have told very serious stories about very serious things. I have a degree in journalism, so a night like this is just special to me on a lot of levels."
The Peabody Awards touched on everything from the personal trauma of transitioning (Will & Harper) to the institutional failures behind the Pulse nightclub shooting (Pulse: The Untold Story). From war zones in Gaza to privatized prison walls, the...

“Saturday Night Live” concluded its 50th season last month as the highest-rated entertainment series on broadcast television among Adults 18-49 and was also the most watched comedy across broadcast and cable for the sixth consecutive season, according to ratings data released by Nielsen on Monday.
Factoring in Live+7 across all platforms, the late night sketch show averaged 8.1 million viewers during the 2024-2025 television season, up +12% vs. Season 49 and marked the show’s best numbers since Season 47 (2021-2022).
“To see the show honor its legacy while still pushing boundaries was incredible. Even in the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building, as Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez’s characters visit Hollywood, there was at least one revelation to be found for cocreator Martin.
“It was not until our actual fourth season that I realized Marty did comedy,” Martin deadpanned during an FYC panel for the Hulu series. “I mean, I did all these seasons with him and I'm thinking ‘What a brilliant dramatic actor!’ And that was only based on because there were no laughs.”
“Just like now, you mean,” Short quipped without missing a beat.
The roasting repartee between the old friends was just one aspect of a rollicking conversation at the Directors Guild of America in Hollywood in which Martin, Gomez, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Michael Cyril Creighton joined via Zoom — they’re currently at work filming the fifth season in New York City — while guest stars Jane Lynch,...
