Warning: The following contains Spoilers for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. One fan theory has been confirmed in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, with Mantis and Star-Lord revealed to be related, being brother and sister. Filmmaker James Gunn once previously dismissed the idea, which first came up when sharp-eyed viewers noticed a member of the same species as Mantis among the montage of aliens who were romanced by Star-Lord's father, Ego, in a deleted scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Apparently those viewers spotted more than a simple Easter egg, as other recent revelations suggest Gunn has long been planning to reveal the two Guardians were related.

Recently, fans unearthed an awesome easter egg in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that suggested Star-Lord and Mantis might actually be siblings. The scene which reveals that Ego had been with countless women across the cosmos in order to father lots of Celestial children features Peter’s dad with a woman of Mantis’ species. Director James Gunn recently confirmed that we were on the right track, though he suggested that this didn’t mean there was necessarily a family connection between the two Guardians.
Now, some new – well, resurfaced – evidence suggests that Gunn might be hiding the truth here, as actress Jennifer Sharpe posted on her Instagram account last year that she shot scenes for Vol. 2 which would’ve featured her as Mantis’ mom had they not been cut. Interestingly, her post has since been edited to remove all mention of her character’s relation to Mantis and the deleted scene she was in.

Over the weekend, a new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 fan theory revealed that Star-Lord and Mantis could be siblings. However, director James Gunn recently took to social media to sort of debunk the theory, while not outright denying it either. Gunn claims that it's not as big of a deal as everybody is making it out to be, but some Marvel Cinematic Universe detectives went straight to work to find more evidence. Sure enough, there was some more to the mystery than originally thought.
Actress Jennifer Sharp, who played what James Gunn calls the same species as Mantis, posted a pretty interesting picture on social media, which has since been edited. Luckily, someone took a screenshot of the picture and caption that was originally posted after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had been released. In the caption, Sharp says that she played "Mantis' mom," while also revealing...
