We should go ahead and rename December 12th “Arrow Video Day,” because the fine fiends over there have a ton of titles coming out this Tuesday, including Special Edition sets for The Premonition and Malatesta’s Carnival of Blood, and they’ve also put together standalone special edition Blu-rays for both House and House II: The Second Story. Severin Films is resurrecting Asylum this Tuesday, and fans can finally get their hands on the latest season of Game of Thrones, as well as a box set featuring every episode from all seven seasons.

Other notable releases for December 12th include K-Shop, Once Upon A Time at Christmas, Brackenmore, The Snake Woman, Beware the Lake, and Hollow Creek.

I hope you guys are ready, because April 11th looks to be an incredible day of home entertainment releases for genre fans, especially if you’ve been patiently waiting for the stunning new Phantasm Blu-ray set from Well Go USA, which features every film from the franchise together in one nifty package. Arrow Video has also assembled the first two House movies for a limited edition Blu-ray set that arrives this week, and Severin Films has resurrected the cult classic Cathy’s Curse in HD for the first time ever.

Severin Films is also keeping busy with a pair of other releases—Dark Water and The Other Hell—and Scream Factory is giving both The Vampire and Demented the Blu-ray treatment as well.

For the second week of September, horror fans have a ton of Blu-ray and DVD titles they can choose from, including Stan Winston’s Pumpkinhead (the latest from Scream Factory), Synapse Films’ brand new Blu-ray of the original Prom Night, and Bobcat Goldthwait’s sasquatch tale Willow Creek.

Scorpion Releasing is also giving fans their first chance to own Oliver Stone’s directorial debut, Seizure, in stunning HD and Graduation Day is also making its Blu-ray bow this week as well. On the one hand, the idea of seeing a classic like The Most Dangerous Game remade is enough to make me queasy. On the other hand, the concept of a man hunting down humans for sport is loose enough to have been tackled more than a few times, and, for as wonderful as it is, Ernest Schoedsack and Irving Pichel’s 8-decade-old thriller is most certainly a product of its time. Plus, Fay Wray’s “other” 1932 film has been remade twice, so how’s that for karma? Though the digital dinosaurs were a significant part of the appeal of the original Jurassic Park as that level of realism had never before been reached in cinema, many of the shots to feature dinosaurs were actually full-scale practical robotic creations, conceived and produced at Stan Winston Studio.

Two key artists at Stan Winston’s side from the early 1980s until his death in 2008 are Shane Mahan and John Rosengrant. Now, the pair of craftspeople is together in a new company called Legacy Effects, but 20 years ago, they were ready to release their most ambitious film to that point – Jurassic Park.

The team at Stan Winston Studio spent a year building all of the practical dinosaurs which would shoot live on the set of the film, directed by Steven Spielberg and photographed by Dean Cundey. Stan Winston School has released some awesome visual effects test sequences from James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Included is Sarah Connor's Fiery Doom and the Liquid Metal Hand Kill sequence.

Who could forget Sarah Connor's dream sequence where she envisioned what the nuclear explosion in La would have looked like? Here is a description of that sequence from Stan Winston School:

The horror-comedy. Perhaps the most difficult sub-genre of film to perfect. Most attempts at horror-comedy don't come off well. Either they're too scary without enough comedy or (more frequently) mostly humor with not enough horror. A lot of times they just come across as trying too hard and cheesy. But every once in a while a movie gets it just right. And when that happens, audiences embrace and celebrate the brilliant and elusive successful horror-comedy.

That being said, in celebration of the upcoming release of Trent Haaga's Chop, we did our best to put together a list of 10 horror-comedies (in no particular order) that we feel are the most impressive efforts in the field. Wocka, wocka, wocka!

According to Production Weekly, director Nimrod Antal is scheduled to begin filming Predators on September 28 at Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.

Produced by Rodriguez, the new film is said to revolve around a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet, who discover unspeakable horrors—horrors that are not always external to their group.

Meanwhile, according to ShockTillYouDrop, the Predator creature effects for the film will be created by Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger's Knb FX. Nicotero worked on the '87 film, as did Berger and Knb's Shannon Shea.

Knb and Rodriguez previously worked together on From Dusk Till Dawn and Sin City. The company is currently working on Screen Gems' Priest.

20th Century Fox plans a July 7, 2010 release for the film.
