Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Mummy, the Wolf Man, the Invisible Man – Universal has brought them all back to the screen in the decades since their glory days in the 1930s and ’40s. But one classic Universal monster who hasn’t had a new movie since the 1950s is the Creature from the Black Lagoon, a.k.a. the Gill Man. The closest we’ve gotten is the unofficial version of the creature that was seen in the 1987 classic The Monster Squad… but last month, it was reported that genre regular James Wan and his production company Atomic Monster are developing “a grounded modernized retelling” of Creature from the Black Lagoon that will lean into “visceral horror while paying respect to the original classic.” Now, Deadline has learned that this Creature from the Black Lagoon reboot will be written by Sean Tretta.

Sinners: "From Ryan Coogler—director of “Black Panther” and “Creed”—and starring Michael B. Jordan comes a new vision of fear: “Sinners.”
Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

Not to be confused with the 1986 Gary Paulsen novel that was on your fifth-grade reading list, Adam Green's 2007 slasher "Hatchet" was intended to be an homage to the plentiful stalk-and-kill movies from the 1980s. The first "Hatchet" takes place deep in the swamps of Louisana where feckless city-dwellers get lost while taking a swamp tour. They trade stories of Victor Crowley, a local kid with facial differences who, years ago, was trapped in a burning house set ablaze by prankster teens. Crowley was accidentally killed by his father when he recklessly used a hatchet to free him from the fire. Victor's spirit is now said to haunt the swamp and murder interlopers. Of course, Victor will appear to start the predicted murders.
Victor Crowley was played by stuntman Kane Hodder, perhaps best known for playing the masked killer Jason Voorhees in "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood,...

The third season of "Star Trek: Picard," overseen by showrunner Terry Matalas, ended with an intriguing new setup. After the season's story had concluded, the action fast-forwarded one year to when Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) had become a provisionary ensign in Starfleet. Jack, with his father (Patrick Stewart) and mother (Gates McFadden), took a good long gander at his new assignment, the Titan-a, newly rechristened the Enterprise-g. This new ship was to be captained by Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), formerly the first officer on board the Titan-a, and the vessel was poised to go on its first deep-space mission with its new name.
Also on board were Raffi (Michelle Hurd), Seven's ex-girlfriend and also her first officer, as well as former Titan crewmembers Lieutenant Matthew Arliss Mura (Joseph Lee), Ensign Kova Rin Esmar (Jin Maley), and presumably Dr. Ohk (Tiffany Shepis). In a post-credits stinger after the final "Picard" episode,...

At the conclusion of the third season of "Star Trek: Picard," after the villains had been defeated, showrunner Terry Matalas had properly and carefully set up another "Star Trek" spinoff series, should Paramount+ have wanted it. Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) had received a posthumous recommendation for a captaincy from her late commanding officer Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick) and was put in command of the U.S.S. Titan-a, now newly rechristened the U.S.S. Enterprise-g. One can perhaps assume that the rechristening was a special favor for the aging Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) now over 100 and happy to have a legacy.
Also serving on the Enterprise-g were a raft of characters seen throughout "Picard," most notably Seven's ex-girlfriend Raffi (Michelle Hurd), who would serve as her first officer. Picard's adult son Jack (Ed Speleers) was hastened through Starfleet Academy and was already serving as an ensign. Also...

Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) became an Admiral in Star Trek: Picard season 3, and she should keep doing what she does best by becoming Star Trek: Legacy's doctor. Though the rumored Picard spin-off Star Trek: Legacy has not yet been confirmed, the pieces for the show seem to all be in place. However, Dr. Crusher would make a perfect addition to the show's cast and to the crew of the newly renamed USS Enterprise-g. In the final episode of Picard season 3, Dr. Crusher became head of Starfleet Medical, but that may not be the best path for her.
The current doctor of the Enterprise-G is Dr. Ohk (Tiffany Shepis) but Star Trek: Legacy could (and should) find a way to maneuver Dr. Crusher into that position. As the Chief Medical Officer of the Enterprise-g, Dr. Crusher would not only fulfill her best destiny but also get to be close...

Star Trek: Legacy could answer some very important questions about the new USS Enterprise-g if the series is greenlit. Legacy is the proposed spin-off of Star Trek: Picard, set up by Picard's series finale which wrapped up the story of Star Trek: The Next Generation's cast while paving the way for other characters to take the franchise forward into the 25th century. These characters mostly include the crew of the new Enterprise-g, which was rechristened from the USS Titan-a to honor Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew after they saved Starfleet from the Borg.
Star Trek: Picard's finale briefly revealed that the Enterprise-g would be helmed by the newly-promoted Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), with Commander Raffi Muskier (Michelle Hurd) serving as First Officer and Ensign Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) advising in a unique role as Special Counselor to the Captain. This post contains spoilers up to the ninth episode of "Star Trek: Picard" season 3.
If one is a user of social media ... well, first off, my apologies. But, if so, enterprising Trekkies may find that the hashtag "#StarTrekLegacy" has floated through the discourse. "Star Trek: Legacy" is already the name of a "Trek" tie-in 2006 PC game that allowed players to engage in elaborate starship tactics using vehicles from "Star Trek," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," and "Star Trek: Enterprise." The hashtag, however, has nothing to do with the game and is, instead, a plea to Paramount from many fans of "Star Trek: Picard" to launch a spin-off TV series.
For many Trekkies, this fan-proposed television show would ideally be set on board the U.S.S. Titan-a and would star Todd Stashwick as Captain Liam Shaw and Jeri Ryan as his first officer, Seven of Nine. "Picard" also introduced several...

One of the great pleasures of the new season of "Star Trek: Picard" has been the introduction of Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick), the hard-nosed commander of the U.S.S. Titan-a. While many of the previous captains on "Star Trek" have been approachable or at least diplomatic, Captain Shaw is an unapologetic jerkwad. Previously an engineer, Shaw prefers order and adheres to rules, refusing to bend them -- even a little bit -- for visiting dignitaries like Picard (Patrick Stewart). He inherited the Titan from Captain Riker (Jonathan Frakes), who left his vast collection of jazz records on the ship's computer. In what might amount to an act of terrorism, Captain Shaw deleted all of the Titan's jazz. He also disrespects his first officer, Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), and happily calls Starfleet security when Seven, Riker, and Picard hijack his ship. He is brusque and even rude. He is an awesome character.

Back in 2020, prior to the debut of "Star Trek: Picard," lead actor Patrick Stewart explained to several reporters that he would only return to the show if he wasn't required to wear a Starfleet uniform. He didn't want to simply go back to the same schtick seen on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" some 30 years earlier, preferring to revisit Picard as a retired civilian. While this is a reasonable demand, a "Star Trek" series that wasn't about Starfleet, or that didn't take place on a starship that was actively trekking, proved difficult for the writers. The first two seasons of "Picard" centered on outsized, byzantine mysteries that involved interdimensional robots (in season 1) and causality loops (in season 2). There was no formal chain of command and no central technological haven for the characters to reconnoiter.
These missing elements were restored for the third season of "Picard," and it seems they were...

This article contains mild spoilers for Star Trek: Picard" season 3.
One general complaint Trekkies may make about "Star Trek" in general is its geocentricity. Every single "Star Trek" series to date ("Star Trek: Prodigy" notwithstanding) has featured a human captain from Earth. And while each show usually features several alien/artificial characters in prominent roles, humans are still the overwhelming norm. Indeed, Starfleet Headquarters is located on Earth, the Federation was officially founded on Earth, and all Starfleet vessels are constructed at the Utopia Planitia shipyards orbiting Mars.
These creative decisions are understandable from a production perspective; all the people making "Star Trek" are indeed humans, and all its viewers are from Earth. The aliens and androids on "Star Trek" are meant to offer human viewers a fresh perspective on their own humanity, inviting us to look at our own foibles as a species from the perspective of a non-human outsider.

Axeman at Cutters Creek is a pretty great name for a horror movie so I’m not sure why this has been changed to Axeman: Redux. Although I know it will probably be a low budget affair, it still manages to conjure up images of classic eighties slashers with great death scenes and great gore. All this from the title alone, at least for me.
And the opening scene keeps in with that spirit. Very much feeling like a tribute to those eighties horror movies. Unfortunately it never manages to get to the heights of any classics, in fact it shares more in common with the eighties horror that is not so fondly remembered.

SinningWorks and filmmaker Joston “El Rey” Theney are set to return May 7th alongside the axe-wielding local legend known as Axeman At Cutter’s Creek.
Theney confirmed the new release of the 80’s inspired film formerly known as Axeman which will serve as a reboot to the franchise rather than a simple re-release. It stars genre vets Tiffany Shepis, Brinkes Stevens, Elissa Dowling, Jamie Bernadette and Erin Maria Hogan, and NBA basketball star Scot Pollard. Theney had this to say:
Axeman was a fun movie to make and I’m so appreciative of the super supportive fanbase. But, to no fault of the cast and crew, it got rushed and we never really put our movie’s best foot forward. This one’ll include never-before-seen footage and a slicker, faster 80 minute run-time. What really killed me was not wrapping up the film as originally intended. It was envisioned as a...

It’s a full house at the trailer park as director Adam Green and actors Kane Hodder, Brian Quinn (Impractical Jokers), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and Tiffany Shepis (Victor Crowley) join hosts Joe Bob and Darcy for “summer sleepover” installment of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs.

In the wrong hands, cliches are about the worst thing that can populate a film. Handled poorly, they just remind you all that can be wrong about cinema. However, cliches became that way for a reason, and are popular with some degree of cause. So, when filmmakers can lean in and utilize cliched material for their own means, sometimes you wind up with a fun result. Star Light is just such a beast, wandering down a well worn path but occasionally doing it in a way that we haven’t seen before, allowing it to stand out from the pack. Out now, it’s an option to consider for genre hounds. The movie is a mix of horror and science fiction, with a bit of an original hook. Here, we have the story of a group of teenagers fighting off a strange entity and protecting a mysterious woman, but the...

"You are not safe with her in there..." 1091 Media has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror titled Star Light, a twisted little film directed by filmmakers Mitchell Altieri & Lee Cummings. A kind-hearted teen's life is turned upside down when he helps a world famous pop star on the run try to escape her violent pursuers. He ends up hiding out with her at a friend's house, turning a fun graduation party into a night of living hell. Starring Cameron Johnson as Dylan & Scout Taylor-Compton as Bebe A. Love; also joined by Rahart Adams, Liana Ramirez, Garrett Westton, Chandler Rachelle, Hagen Mills, Tiffany Shepis, Kevin Jiggetts, and Bret Roberts. This looks like it has a crazy twist where it turns out the pop star is some kind of creature. Maybe a werewolf or something else? I wonder if this is going to turn out to be a horror...
