Listen: Joe Dante Talkin’ Movies!
A live radio conversation, recorded for posterity and your enjoyment!

Yesterday, Our Fearless Leader took to the internet airwaves (’cause, really, what’s a radio?) to talk with Rex Sikes — on his Rex Sikes’ Movie Beat podcast/show — about any of a dozen or more things befitting the name of the show, which is a terribly convoluted way of saying “they talk about movie stuff.”

Topics range from Joe’s start in the business, Spielberg’s influence on Gremlins, how Joe made the transition from exclusively watching cartoons to watching live-action fare, Hollywood Boulevard in the 1970′s, how the business has changed, and a bunch of other worthy topics, like film preservation and the scary near death of 35mm Even though there’s the occasional moment of Joe Dante doomsaying – “kids these days are going to want to grow up and make movies like Transformers” (and, yes, that qualifies as...

New Images, Interview with 'Some Guy Who Kills People' Writer/Producer
Jack Perez
There's a whole lot going on with Jack Perez's Some Guy Who Kills People, a horror-comedy about a lonely, small-town loser who sets out to kill each of the men he deems responsible for his miserable life. Writer/producer Ryan Levin wrote us to reveal that the film will be playing PiFan, Fantasia Fest, Fantaspoa and RioFan, and has asked for support via Facebook and Twitter. In addition, Levin took some time out of his busy schedule and appeared on a pair of podcasts, the Rex Sikes Movie Beat and on Blog Talk Radio. There he discusses the process of getting the money, casting, shooting the movie and now getting the movie out there. We scored some brand new stills, all of which can be found inside.

The Amateur Monster Movie (Review)
2011 - 109 mins. - Not Rated

D: Kyle Richard

C: Chris Ouchie, Kyle Richards, Samantha Goetz, Steve Golla, Stephen Kimble, Charles Ramsey, Rex Steven Sikes

Teenager enlists the help of a local stoner to help him get to a mysterious island to track down the werewolf that attacked his friends all in the midst of a zombie plague.

A horror comedy that is supposed to recall the nostalgia of the June Cleaver era of films through music score, performance and a werewolf that could fit alongside the ones seen in the cheesy grade Z horror films of the 50's was a nifty idea. There is some amusing little scenes and some funny little quips or zingers scattered throughout The Amateur Monster Movie. The thing is that The Amateur Monster Movie needed more focus both in its script and in its editing. For a big chunk of the film, the film is...

Interview with actor Kevin Kiser of Horrid
Horrid (2009) Kevin Kiser is the leading man of the latest low budget zombie movie to hit the marketplace - Horrid - which co-stars Rex Steven Sikes (Massacre at Central High). In Horrid, three friends travel north for a bachelor party weekend full of babes, booze and unexpected encounters. Oblivious to what is happening around them, the three find themselves trapped as a cannibalistic diseases, developed by the military, transforms the townspeople into ravenous zombies. Kevin Kiser is a local of Wisconsin. With Horrid, he showed an ability to be the appealing everyman in a leading role. His abilities in Horrid I think could easily translate to him playing the "best friend" kind of role in other films. The question is, does he have the drive to pursue any more acting projects? Here's what Kevin had to say about working on Horrid.

Kevin Kiser Who is Kevin Kiser and what are you all about?...

Horrid (Review - New to video this week)
2010 - 94 mins. - Not Rated

D: James Pronath

C: Rex Sikes, Kevin Kiser, Liz Raberchek, Kyle Berg, Josh Mijal

Three friends gathered at a woodsy cabin for a bachelor party discover that the small town that surrounds them is the site of a cannibalistic plague, the result of a government experiment gone wrong.

If any one word could be used to describe the acting and special effects of this film, the word horrid comes to mind. The acting from all of the lead actors is atrocious. Rex Sikes, in an all too brief role, shows the only modicum of competency. As for the special effects they look cheap, amateurish and poorly put together. When it comes to special effects and zombie films, the makeup has to be spot on, because that is a crucial element in selling a film of this type. If the budget didn't permit it, they should...

"Girls Gone Dead" invents new horror cliche - The Shawn C. Phillips death sequence
"This Spring Break…Get Hammered!"

Bongiovi Entertainment in association with Rex Steven Sikes (Massacre at Central High) and George Barnes (Take 2 productions)

present

"Girls Gone Dead"

(Aka Spring Break Massacre II)

Michael Hoffman Jr. and wife Meghan Jones were looking to reinvent the classic "The Slumber Party Massacre" or "Sorority House Massacre" sub-genre of films. Well, looking at the behind the scenes pics from the film, so far to date, they have come up with at least one new cliche or invention for the horror genre-

The Shawn C. Phillips death scene

Shawn C. Phillips is an indie actor who has been in a wide variety of horror films (President's Day, Witch's Brew, Hell House, Deadly Dares: Truth or Dare Part IV, Red River), but one thing always seems to be a constant in those films. He always gets killed! Judging by the pics from the set of "Girls Gone...

Michael Hoffman Jr. to reinvent the killer sleepover sub-genre with "Girls Gone Dead"
Cast & Crew "This Spring Break…Get Hammered!"

Bongiovi Entertainment in association with Rex Steven Sikes (Massacre at Central High) and George Barnes (Take 2 productions)

present

"Girls Gone Dead"

The film which is set to start filming on November 13 is genre director Michael Hoffman Jr.'s (Spring Break Massacre) most ambitious undertaking with a five week shooting schedule and a budget of roughly around $500,000. Helping him with this endeavor is Aaron Wells (Rock and a Hard Place: Another Night at the Agora) who will share co-directing credit and Ryan Dee who is on board as the film's producer.

Girls Gone Dead features a cast including hottie Caley Hayes (who ironically played the hottie in "Sex Drive"), sizzling Penthouse Pet Ryan Keely (seen on this year's MTV movie awards in a fake commercial for "Devil" alongside M. Night Shyamalan) internet sensation Shawn C. Phillips (President's Day) and the hardest working man in indie horror,...

Interview With Director Kyle Richards (Amateur Monster Movie)
Kyle Richards is a 21 year old college dropout whose desire to direct films got the better of him. He is currently on post production on Amateur Monster Movie, a film that got made for virtually nothing, but with a lot of heart and passionate people behind it. Amateur Monster Movie gives new relevance to the term micro budget film. Anyway, we asked Kyle a few questions about Amateur Monster Movie. Here's what he had to say.

So for those unfamiliar with you, who is Kyle Richards and what are you all about?

I am Kyle Richards and I dropped out of college to make a movie about zombies with no money. I consider myself pretty smart for thinking of that brilliant plan.

I suppose, to overly generalize myself, I'm all about making movies. And I'm lucky to have a dedicated group of friends who have stuck by me for years to do just that.
