“The Goldbergs” is coming to an end after 10 seasons on ABC, according to reports. The ’80s-set half-hour comedy was based on creator Adam F. Goldberg’s childhood experiences.

With over 200 episodes and a decade-long run, the Sony Pictures Television series — which follows the title family in a Pennsylvania town — has earned the distinction of being the longest-running live-action network comedy series currently on the air. The season finale, set to air May 3, will now serve as a series ender.

The logline for Season 10 is as follows: “With everyone living back under the same roof and Beverly adjusting to her new role as Grandsmotherer, the Goldbergs pandemonium is crazier than ever. As this latest chapter of life continues to unfold, the Goldbergs remind us that there is no bond greater than family, and there is nothing they can’t handle with each other’s support.”

“The Goldbergs” is ending after 10 seasons at ABC, Variety has confirmed with sources. The Season 10 finale set to air on May 3 will serve as the single-camera comedy’s series finale.

The move to end the series is not altogether surprising, even though it has been a cornerstone of the ABC comedy slate throughout its run with solid ratings returns. “The Goldbergs” is currently the longest-running live-action network comedy on the air, but has faced difficulties in the past few years. George Segal, who starred as Albert “Pops” Solomon on the show, passed away in early 2021. Later that same year, series star Jeff Garlin exited the show following an Hr misconduct investigation.

Ending the show also comes at a difficult time for the broadcast TV business, with the major networks having ordered just a handful of comedy pilots at this point in the traditional pilot season as overall pilot order volume continue to plummet.

Exclusive (Updated With Confirmation & Details): The Goldbergs’ journey through the 1980s is over. The family comedy’s current tenth season will be its last, with the May 3 season finale serving as a series finale. (Watch a promo for The Goldbergs‘ final episodes above.)

This does not come as a surprise. For shows of that age, renewals are not straightforward because of rising costs and declining ratings, and there had been questions over the past couple of years on how long The Goldbergs can go. The half-hour, from creator Adam F. Goldberg and Sony Pictures TV, is the longest-running live-action network comedy series currently on the air and, given the way the broadcast business is going, there likely won’t be many others coming behind it that would be able join the exclusive club of live-action broadcast comedies with double-digit season, 200+ episode runs.

Exclusive: Isabella Gomez has joined the cast of ABC’s The Goldbergs for Season 10 in a recurring role.

However, questions still remain about how the single-camera comedy series will handle Jeff Garlin’s character, Murray Goldberg, going into the new season.

Garlin exited “The Goldbergs” in December following an investigation into the comedian’s onset behavior after he was accused of misconduct. Variety exclusively reported that Garlin would still be a part of Season 9 through the use of off-camera dialogue pulled from earlier episodes and unused takes, as well as previously shot images of Garlin.

According to an individual with knowledge of the production, official plans for Garlin’s character are forthcoming, but it is likely that he will be written off the show.

“The Goldbergs” remains one of ABC’s more popular shows even this late in its run. Season to date, the show is averaging a 0.8 rating in adults 18-49 and just over 4 million viewers per episode in the Nielsen Live+7 ratings.

The Goldbergs, which recently hit the 200-episode mark, will keep going as ABC has renewed the family comedy for a 10th season.

With the pickup, the series from creator Adam F. Goldberg and Sony Pictures TV joins an exclusive club of live-action broadcast comedies that have gone to double-digit runs. It is the longest-running live-action network comedy series currently on the air.

The Goldbergs renewal comes as little surprise given that ABC in March inked a new deal with star/EP Wendi McLendon-Covey to continue on the series, as Deadline exclusively reported. Fellow original cast members Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile and Hayley Orrantia also have closed deals to return, Deadline has learned. They will continue to star alongside Sam Lerner, who was upped to series regular in Season 5.

In this Wednesday’s episode, Beverly decides to join Adam and Brea (Sadie Stanley) on their much-anticipated beachside vacation in Miami to take of care of Pops’ (George Segal) possessions at his Florida condominium. Meanwhile, Barry (Troy Gentile)’s celebratory joy after acing the McAt is short-lived after Erica (Hayley Orrantia) becomes the local hero when she saves a man from choking at the mall food court, per ABC.

Segal, who played Sean’s beloved grandfather, died on March 23, 2021, and his character received an emotional farewell on the sitcom.

ABC today announced premiere dates for its Wednesday primetime comedy block.

Some original scripted shows will be on the network this October.

The Goldbergs, The Conners, and black-ish are set to make their returns October 21, while American Housewife will join the comedy lineup on Oct. 28.

Dates for network scripted dramas, including Grey's Anatomy and The Good Doctor, will be announced soon. Dates for unscripted series were previously announced.

"We couldn’t be more excited to spread some much-needed joy with our Wednesday night comedy lineup,” said Karey Burke, president, ABC Entertainment.

“While we had to be incredibly flexible this year, we are so lucky that we’re able to continue our long tradition of making Wednesday night comedy a strong staple of our fall broadcast schedule.”

ABC has set fall premiere dates for its Wednesday night comedy block. The Goldbergs, The Conners and Black-ish will all premiere October 21 and American Housewife will join the lineup on October 28.

The Goldbergs will premiere its eighth season at 8 p.m. October 21 with back-to-back episodes, followed by the Season 3 premiere of The Conners at 9 p.m. and the Season 7 premiere of Black-ish at 9:30 p.m. American Housewife will premiere its fifth season at 8:30 p.m. the next week.

As previously announced, Black-ish will air an election-themed, partially animated special directed by Oscar winner Matthew A. Cherry on Sunday, October 4 ahead of its season premiere.

Exclusive: Carrie Wampler (Big Little Lies) has joined the upcoming eighth season of ABC comedy series The Goldbergs in a major recurring role in a recasting.

Wampler will play Ren, a stylish, artsy, rebellious and effortless Manhattan NYC prep school girl who Erica (Hayley Orrantia) befriends at college. She’s also Barry’s (Troy Gentile) new girlfriend.

Wampler takes over for Kelli Berglund, who initially was cast in the role. Berglund had to exit the series because of another commitment, according to the network. Berglund was cast earlier this year as one of the leads in Starz’s wrestling drama series Heels.

The Emmy winner is set to play a talking cat in the Fox comedy series Tigsley, our sister site Variety is reporting. The multi-camera comedy — which has received a script commitment with a penalty attached — is described as “an adult comedy about a family dealing with life, love, the pursuit of happiness and their obnoxious insult-hurling talking cat.” Anderson will appear onscreen in a cat costume, a la Wilfred, rather than voicing a CGI or puppet character.

ABC has officially given the pilot green light to Dr. Ken, a multi-camera comedy starring Community‘s Ken Jeong. The project, from Sony TV and studio-based Davis Entertainment, was picked up along with the bulk of the ABC comedy pilots on Jan. 30. In light of the groundswell of accusations from women who have accused the 77-year-old comedian of sexual assault, the pay service opted against giving Cosby a platform on Nov. 27. "At this time we are postponing the launch of the new stand-up comedy special Bill Cosby 77," Netflix said Tuesday evening in a statement. Cosby's publicist has reportedly said the decision was mutual. The special was billed as a birthday celebration for Cosby, who was expected to share "intimate and wildly entertaining stories from his childhood, first loves, and the endless adventure of parenthood.

This summer, NBC execs were very happy to talk about the new sitcom they were developing for Bill Cosby. “We’re very committed, and that’s an important show for us,” Peacock entertainment president Jennifer Salke told reporters at NBC’s portion of the TV Critics Association summer press tour in July, announcing that former Glee star Mike O’Malley had agreed to write the new Cosby show (with another sitcom vet, Mike Sikowitz). A month later, Netflix was equally eager to kvell about Cos, saying it was “thrilled” to include a set by the comedy icon on its ambitious new slate of stand-up specials. But following a flurry of attention to decades-old allegations of sexual assault by Cosby against multiple women, as well as a brand-new accusation, NBC and Netflix have suddenly gone silent: When Vulture inquired about the status of the projects, both companies replied with a terse “no comment.

Bill Cosby is returning to television.

EW has confirmed that NBC has made a deal for an untitled family comedy starring Cosby and written by Mike O’Malley. According to Deadline, the show will follow Cosby as Jonathan Franklin, “a patriarch of a multi-generational family who shares his many years of wit, wisdom and experience to help his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren navigate their complicated modern lives.”

The show is reportedly being eyed for summer or fall of 2015 with O’Malley set to executive produce alongside Mike Sikowitz.

NBC officially expelled Community back in May, canceling the eccentric cult comedy after its fifth season. Fans rallied to keep the series on the air with a web campaign based on the mantra "six seasons and a movie," but the network wasn't interested in heeding those audience demands. According to entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt, the decision to pass came down to ratings, plain and simple.

NBC's presentation at the Television Critics Association's 2014 Summer press tour took place on Sunday, and we were on hand to get all the juicy details on the network's fall schedule. We learned a few goodies about highly-anticipated new shows "Constantine" and "State of Affairs," plus, new info on the Emmys, their upcoming live musical, and more.

1. Walken the Plank?

Perhaps the biggest news of the day was the announcement that Christopher Walken has landed the role of Captain Hook in the live musical version of "Peter Pan" -- an event planned for a December 4th airing. The actor "will be the first tap dancing Captain Hook you've ever seen," according to NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt.

It was the ratings, of course. But NBC’s top entertainment executives went on record to give a little more insight into their decision-making process on canceling Community and The Michael J. Fox Show last season.

Mike Sikowitz has taken on his first assignment under the rich new overall deal he just signed with Sony Pictures Television. The comedy writer-producer has joined the studio’s CBS multi-camera comedy pilot The McCarthys as executive producer/showrunner. The McCarthys, from Sony TV and Will Gluck’s Olive Bridge Entertainment, was retooled as multi-camera after shooting a single-camera pilot last season. Written/co-executive produced by Brian Gallivan, The McCarthys revolves around a big, sports-crazed Irish Catholic clan in Boston and the gay son (Tyler Ritter) whose greatest sin is not his sexuality but his desire to spend less time with his family. Sikowitz will exec produce alongside Olive Bridge’s Gluck and Richie Schwartz. This marks a return to multi-camera comedy and to CBS for Sikowitz, who previously served as executive producer on Sony’s long-running CBS comedy series Rules Of Engagement. He is repped by ICM Partners and Michael Gendler.

Exclusive: Comedy writer-producer Mike Sikowitz is staying at Sony Pictures Television with a new overall deal. Under the rich seven-figure pact, which I hear is for three years, he will continue to develop projects for the studio. Sikowitz was among Sony’s most prolific writers last development season, landing two pilot orders, for Welcome To The Family at NBC and Divorce at ABC. The first went to series that aired on Thursday last fall, and the second came close to a series pickup, with ABC keeping it in contention past May and Sony extending the options on the cast. Sikowitz, repped by ICM Partners and attorney Michael Gendler, previously served as an executive producer on Sony’s long-running CBS comedy series Rules Of Engagement. His credits also include CBS’ The Class, Fox’s Grounded for Life and NBC’s Friends.

NBC, at one time a bastion of network comedy, is now down to one two-hour comedy block each week, and with The Office now off the air, they’re hoping at least one of these new sitcoms will find an audience, or at least the critical buzz of Parks and Recreation. The first to premiere will be the much-anticipated return to weekly network TV of Michael J. Fox.

NBC‘s Revolution has tapped Patrick Heusinger for a recurring guest role on the postapocalyptic sci-fi series. Heusinger will play Adam, a handsome and outgoing thirtysomething. Heusinger’s credits include guest runs on the CW’s Gossip Girl and USA’s Royal Pains. On the big screen he recently appeared in IFC Films’ Frances Ha. Revolution returns in its second-season premiere on September 25. Heusinger is repped by Gersh. Fabrizio Guido has been cast in NBC’s Welcome to the Family. He’ll play the role of the younger brother of the series’ male lead, Joseph Haro, on the single-camera comedy from Mike Sikowitz and Sony TV debuting October 3. He replaces the originally cast Aramis Knight. Guido recently made his feature film debut in World War Z opposite Brad Pitt. He’s repped by Jaime Ferrar Agency.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the first announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on NBC.

The Peacock did not have a good year. Only one of its new shows, "Revolution," was a true hit. Another, "Chicago Fire," got renewed by the skin of its teeth whilst the fate of a third, "Hannibal," remains uncertain.

None of last year's new comedies survived, neither did two mid-season dramas, which leaves the network with some big holes to fill. Three dramas and three comedies will debut in the Fall ahead of three more dramas and two comedies mid-season. Two further dramas and a comedy are presently unscheduled.

Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't become series including the high-profile Charlize Theron-produced drama about the Hatfields and McCoys, the Bruckheimer-produced...

The new fall season is closer than you think, and NBC has released their full schedule. Apart from reality favorites The Biggest Loser and The Voice, they are mixing things up quite a bit.

Take a look at a complete preview of the shows coming your way, and mark your calendars. It looks good for NBC this year, and while I’m not sure all of these look like winners, I think you’ll find at least a couple that you’re really going to like.

Chicago – When you’re in as much of a ratings struggle as NBC, it makes sense to shake things up and that’s exactly what they’re doing in the Fall with a new show or an old show in a new time every single night of the week. “Chicago Fire,” “Revolution,” “The Biggest Loser,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Parenthood” are moving. “Community” is being held until a midseason, 13-episode run. No decision yet made on “Celebrity Apprentice” or “Hannibal,” which isn’t that surprising as they are mid-season shows anyway although it shouldn’t give fans of either program confidence as NBC announced a midseason schedule as well and they’re not on it.
