Fox Sports’ Legal Drama Over Hostile Work Environment May Grow As Case Proceeds
Image
A lawsuit filed by hairdresser Noushin Faraji against Fox Sports has brought allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against network executive Charlie Dixon and show host Skip Bayless into the spotlight.

The legal battle, which alleges a hostile work environment and unwanted sexual advances, may involve more individuals as the case progresses.

Marcellus Wiley Speaks Out

Former FS1 Speak for Yourself co-host Marcellus Wiley revealed that he is contemplating legal action against Fox Sports, claiming he was unfairly replaced on the show.

Wiley alleges that Joy Taylor, his successor, gained favor with Dixon through inappropriate means, including sexual favors, and disregarded Faraji’s concerns about harassment. Wiley expressed his frustration in an interview, stating, “I’m trying to take that look right now.”

Allegations Against Network Leadership

Faraji’s lawsuit also implicates top Fox Sports executives, including President Mark Silverman and CEO Eric Shanks, accusing the organization of enabling a...

Fox Sports’ Legal Drama Over Hostile Work Environment May Grow as Case Proceeds
Image
A lawsuit from a hairdresser against Fox Sports accusing network executive Charlie Dixon and longtime show host Skip Bayless of making unwanted sexual advances could entangle more litigants as it makes its way through court.

Marcellus Wiley, the former co-host of FS1’s Speak for Yourself, said he’s considering suing the network for conspiring to replace him on the show with Joy Taylor, who allegedly curried the favor of Dixon with sexual favors and dismissed concerns from the hairdresser, Noushin Faraji, of sexual harassment.

“I’m trying to take that look right now,” Wiley said in an interview Wednesday with Jason Whitlock.

As Faraji pursues discovery over the extent of network executives’ awareness of the alleged misconduct, she also said she may name Fox Sports president Mark Silverman and Fox Sports chief executive Eric Shanks in the lawsuit.

“Fox’s failure to prevent harassment perpetuated a misogynistic, racist, and...

Skip Bayless, Joy Taylor & Fox Sports Slammed In Sexual Battery & Retaliation Suit; Ex-‘Undisputed’ Host Alleged To Have Offered $1.5M To Hairstylist For Sex
Image
Skip Bayless and Fox Sports are reunited, though not in a way either party would have hoped for.

The former Undisputed host and the network division run by Erik Shanks and Mark Silverman have been hit with a jury-seeking complaint claiming Bayless propositioned a hairstylist at Fox Sports with $1.5 million if she would have sex with him.

Characterizing Fox Sports as den of iniquity, the 14-claim lawsuit filed January 3 in Los Angeles Superior Court also alleges that Bayless repeatedly tried to “pressure” plaintiff Noushin Faraji “into having sex with him.”

“Ms. Faraji brings forth this action because for over a decade at Fox, she was forced to endure a misogynistic, racist, and ableist workplace where executives and talent were allowed to physically and verbally abuse workers with impunity,” reads the suit that claims sexual battery, retaliation, hostile work environment and fraudulent business practices.

Read the sexual battery and 13 other claims against Skip Bayless,...

Why Disney's Tower Of Terror Imagineers Watched Every Episode Of The Twilight Zone Twice
Image
Disney's Tower of Terror has always felt like a thrilling outlier at any Disney park. Opened in Florida in 1994, the "Twilight Zone"-inspired thrill ride was always a little scarier than the rest of the Mouse House's family-friendly theme park attractions -- in a good way.

California's Tower of Terror may have had its last ride, but the attraction remains a landmark of Disney parks across the world, with additional versions in Tokyo and Paris. As with any Disney ride, a whole lot of thought went into the original planning of the attraction, and in the case of Tower of Terror, Imagineers were actually required to become classic TV binge-watchers. According to the official D23 website, everyone who helped design the Tower of Terror watched all 156 episodes of Rod Serling's seminal anthology series at least twice.

Imagineers looked even closer at certain "Twilight Zone" episodes, studying the music, props,...

Sundance 2023: ‘Fancy Dance’ Directed by Erica Tremblay

Sundance 2023: ‘Fancy Dance’ Directed by Erica Tremblay

U.S. Dramatic Competition

This is a perfect Sundance film. Regional, authentically true to its roots, it also sounds great, from the Cherokee conversation spoken with total ease and subtitled for English speaking non-Cherokees to the beat of the drum and the music accompanying our two protagonists as they seek their sister and mother.

Since her sister’s disappearance, Jax (Lily Gladstone) has cared for her niece Roki (the luminous Isabel Deroy-Olson) by scraping by on the Seneca-Cayuga Reservation in Oklahoma. Every spare minute goes into finding her missing sister while also helping Roki prepare for an upcoming powwow. At the risk of losing custody to Jax’s father, Frank (Shea Whigham), the pair hit the road and scour the backcountry to track down Roki’s mother in time for the powwow. What begins as a search gradually turns into a far deeper investigation into the complexities and contradictions of Indigenous women moving through a colonized world and at the mercy of a failed justice system.

Jax (Lily Gladstone) and Roki (Isabel Deroy-Olson)

This debut fiction feature demonstrates the talent of Erica Tremblay, an American writer and director from the Seneca-Cayuga Nation. We cast a new eye upon the land and the characters who make up the Cherokee nation. (It was filmed and supported by the Cherokee nation. Erica Tremblay recently worked as an executive story editor on Reservation Dogs at FX, where she directed her 1st TV episode. Together with Sterlin Harjo, she developed a series adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize finalist Yellowbird (2014) for Paramount+. She was an executive story editor on Dark Winds (2022), produced by George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford. Her feature project Fancy Dance (2023) was accepted into the 2021 Sundance Directors and Screenwriters Labs. In 2021, she was awarded the Walter Bernstein Screenwriting Fellowship, the Maja Kristin Directing Fellowship, the Sffilm Rainin Grant and the Lynn Shelton of a Certain Age Grant. Her short film Little Chief (2020) premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and was included on IndieWire’s top-10 list of must-see short films at the festival. In addition to writing and directing, she’s also studying her indigenous language.

Director Erica Tremblay

As the sister and her niece make their way through their journey, the harshness of Jax and the kleptomania of Roki transform into understandable traits, especially for Roki who sees shoplifting as a normal adaptation to being constantly short of money. As for Jax, her dykish behavior which elicits disrespect from some men is a shield for her which hides her totally unconditional dedication to family, except when calling her brother, the sheriff, negligent and uncaring about tracking down their sister who has gone missing.

Tremblay’s unflinching exploration of marginalization uses a mystery narrative as a springboard for an oblique coming-of-age story, lovingly and luminously enacted by Gladstone and Deroy-Olson. Tremblay’s juxtaposition of settler violence against the strength of Indigenous communities offers a nuanced account of the human costs of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women epidemic and the possibilities of healing for those left behind.

Fancy Dance was produced by four deeply engaged producers: Tommy Oliverwhose film 1982 premiered at Sundance in 2013 and who is here this year with three films, Fancy Dance, Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project andYoung. Wild. Free.; longtime programmer for indigenous programming since Sundance first championed the genre N. Bird Runningwater; Forest Whitaker producer of 34 films including this year’s Sundance film To Live and Die and Live and 2013 Sundance great Fruitvale Station; and Heather Rae, born on October 1, 1966 in Venice, California, USA and already producer of 42 films including Mosquito y Mari (Sundance 2012) and Tommy Oliver’s 1982(Sundance 2013). Others are Deidre Backs recipient of the 2021 Sundance Institute Mark Silverman honor as a Sundance Creative Producing Lab fellow and a 2022 Women at Sundance fellow; Nina Yang Bongiovi (30 producer credits), Dylan Brodie (18 credits), two relative newcomers Charlotte Koh, Robert Grigsby Wilson and the writer director herself Erica Tremblay.

While Sundance has morphed over its nearly 40 years from a showcase of small indie regional Americana into a Hollywood hunting ground and showcase of those whose arcs began there but have now made it to the heights, from budgets of $1 million and less to the $30–50 million dollar range, this film is a tribute to all that Robert Redford strove to achieve. It is a classic.

WrestleMania 36: How to Watch and More WWE Details
Steve Austin at an event for The Condemned (2007)
This year’s WrestleMania will be one of the strangest wrestling events in history. WWE has traded in the 80,000-seat stadium in Tampa, Fla. for an empty training facility due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The only way you’ll be able to watch the show is through your internet connection or cable/satellite provider.

WestleMania 36: Where to Watch and Cost

The most popular way to watch WrestleMania 36 will be through the WWE Network, which you can subscribe to for $9.99 per month. The price tags on cable and satellite providers will depend on your carrier, but the price points for those service average around $70.

The other abnormal part of this year’s show is that it will air over two nights. WWE will air Part I on Saturday night (April 4) and Part II will air on Sunday (April 5). There has been some controversy surrounding the cable and satellite providers charging around $70 for each show.

ESPN, Fox Have New Games to Play as NFL Season Opens
When “Monday Night Football” debuts on ESPN on this evening, fans may do a double-take after they see what executives at the network refer to as “The Boogermobile.”

That’s an elevated chair set up on the line of scrimmage and pulled back and forth along the sidelines by a cart. Booger McFarland, the former NFL defensive tackle, will sit atop the contraption, interacting with an all-new team of announcers and analysts. It’s supposed to give him a unique view of the sidelines that he can then share with viewers of the Disney-owned cable network. “Yes, there’s a seatbelt,” says McFarland, during a recent talk with reporters. “I’m asking for another one.”

A lot of people will want to buckle up this year when it comes to broadcasting NFL games.

Comcast And Fox Settle Big Ten Network Carriage Dispute As College Football Season Nears Kickoff
Comcast and the Fox Networks Group have settled a high-profile carriage dispute over the Big Ten Network ahead of the September 1 end of the current contract and on the eve of college football season.

Under the new deal, Comcast will continue carrying the network and the companies also reached an agreement for Comcast to continue carrying all of the Big Ten games on FS1.

Earlier this summer, Fox threw a major grenade over the wall during the conference’s annual media day, held in Chicago on the eve of college football season. Mark Silverman, president of Fox Sports National Networks and Btn, delivered a speech aimed at sending a loud and clear signal.

“I am letting everyone know this in order to alert Comcast subscribers of the real possibility that they may lose Btn and Big Ten football games on FS1 this season,” he said. “The good news here is...

Fox Clashes With Comcast Over Big Ten Network Carriage Impasse – Update
Updated with Comcast response: With the college football season just weeks away from kickoff, the head of the Big Ten Network has laid down the gauntlet with the nation’s No. 1 cable operator as carriage negotiations have foundered.

Mark Silverman, president of Fox Sports National Networks and Btn, said there has been no “substantive response” to Fox’s deal proposals. In a pointed speech this morning at Big Ten Media Day in Chicago, he warned that Fox’s deal with Comcast is expiring on September 1 and a blackout could threaten Big Ten football and basketball games on the network and FS1.

“I am letting everyone know this in order to alert Comcast subscribers of the real possibility that they may lose Btn and Big Ten football games on FS1 this season,” he said. “The good news here is that Comcast will be alone if it decides to drop Btn and...

Fox Sports Signals Standoff With Comcast Over Big Ten Network
A top Fox Sports executive warned that a channel devoted to Big Ten conference sports could go dark in Comcast households before the start of football season.

Speaking at Big Ten media day Tuesday in Chicago Mark Silverman, president of Fox Sports National Networks and Big Ten Network, indicated that the conglomerate is in a standoff with cable provider Comcast over a new carriage agreement. The current agreement is set to run out this year.

“The Btn agreement with Comcast is expiring soon, as is the agreement for all the Big Ten games on FS1,” Silvrman said in his media-day remarks. “Btn and FS1 made proposals to Comcast dating back to February and we’ve had no substantive response.”

The potential for a blackout would also affect Big Ten games on the company’s primary cable sports channel, Fox Sports 1. Silverman encouraged viewers to seek out cable and satellite...

NBA, Fox Sports Strike Deal to Show Jr. NBA World Championship
Fox Broadcasting and Fox Sports 1 will televise the Jr. NBA World Championship under a new multi-year deal struck between the National Basketball Association and Fox Sports.

The tournament is billed as a “global youth basketball tournament for elite 13- and 14-year-old boys and girls teams from around the world.” The first event is slated to be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla. between August 7 and August 12.

But the league has ties to Fox as well. ” We have a longstanding relationship with Fox that includes partnerships with 17 of our teams through its family of regional sports networks,” said Kathy Behrens, the NBA’s president of social responsibility and player programs, in an emailed statement.
