Production has wrapped and post-production started on director Yves Simoneau's Toronto-lensed, World War II era, alien TV pilot "Horizon", starring Cary Elwes and Ruth Bradley, under the supervision of "The Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Anne Hurd.

NBC is planning to administer a double dose of classic horror, with the news that the network is moving forward with miniseries adaptations of both Roman Polanski’s iconic horror film Rosemary’s Baby and Stephen King’s acclaimed novel The Tommyknockers.

The announcement indicates that NBC has been watching closely as ‘event’ miniseries like CBS’ Under the Dome and FX’s American Horror Story have delivered surprisingly high ratings, and as its own horror series Hannibal has quickly gained a loyal cult following.

NBC president Bob Greenblatt said that the Rosemary’s Baby reboot will in fact be more of a re-imagining of the original Ira Levin novel on which Polanski’s film was based, rather than a direct remake of the film. In a continuation of what is (for TV fans) one of the most wonderful times of the year, we have moved straight from Comic-Con season to TCA season. Twice a year the networks make presentations to the members of the Television Critics Association, and that’s one of the key times when we learn about what might be in our viewing futures.

NBC had their day on Saturday, and out of that came the announcement of the development of a limited-series adaptation of Rosemary’s Baby, and of Stephen King‘s Tommyknockers. Here are the details:

“Rosemary’s Baby” is a four-hour updated retelling of the bestselling novel by Ira Levin that was later adapted as a feature film about devil worship and the complex relationship between a young husband and wife. In the new version, the couple lives in Paris where this edge-of-your-seat thriller unfolds. Lionsgate is the production company.

With networks getting back in the mini-series game, it’s not too surprising that NBC exec Bob Greenblatt unveiled plans for two new reboots in mini form while talking to the Television Critics Association this weekend. Beleaguered network NBC has announced that it is developing four new high-profile event series to join its already announced six-hour "Cleopatra" miniseries.

The news was announced at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour on Saturday. The first is a limited series entitled "Plymouth" which is being made by "The Bible" producer Mark Burnett. That series deals with the Pilgrims' journey across the Atlantic and the hardships of settling in the New World.

The most surprising of the four is what's being labelled as an "updated remake" of "Rosemary's Baby" which will be set in Paris. The project is being described as a new adaptation of the Ira Levin novel rather than a remake of Roman Polanski's classic film adaptation.

At today's Television Critics Association conference, NBC head Bob Greenblatt announced a couple of upcoming projects that may have FEARnet readers salivating. 

An updated remake of Rosemary's Baby, based on the Ira Levin novel and originally filmed in 1968 by Roman Polanski, is on track for a four hour miniseries (likely split over two nights, the way they used to air miniseries in the 1980s and early 1990s). The story about a young wife who is convinced that she is carrying the devil's baby, will be set in Paris. Scott Abbott (Queen of the Damned) is working on the script.

Also on the schedule is a new version of The Tommyknockers, based on the novel by Stephen King. Greenblatt was inspired in part by the success of another King property, Under the Dome, which is doing gangbusters on CBS. Rosemary’s Baby will be released as a four-hour miniseries and is said to be an updated retelling, where the married couple at the center of the story live in Paris. There were less details provided about The Tommyknockers adaptation, but it was said that the success of Under the Dome was one of the big reasons for this project moving forward. We’re not sure if it’s going to be a miniseries or a limited series with the possibility of additional seasons, but will let readers know when more details become available. Like all the other broadcast networks, NBC is getting (back) into the miniseries business, greenlighting four new projects in addition to the follow-up to "The Bible" it picked up recently.

The four new projects are a biopic about Hillary Clinton that will star Diane Lane; an updated version of "Rosemary's Baby"; a remake of Stephen King's "The Tommyknockers"; and "Plymouth," about the Pilgrims settling in America.

"We need to be in the event business," network chairman Bob Greenblatt told reporters Saturday (July 27) at the TCA summer press tour. That includes lots of live programming (like a live "Sound of Music" set to air in December) but also programming like what it announced Saturday.

The Fantasia Film Festival held their press conference today to unveil their 2012 line-up and honestly we are still processing the information dump. Mitch Davis said during the press conference that the only way to properly describe the festival would be “to tie you to chairs, force feed you caffeine and sugar and talk to you for 17 days.” As usual, Mitch is simultaneously completely insane and completely accurate.

The story takes place in China during the 19th century. Lord Lindsay (Matt Frewer), a British merchant and also a drug trafficker, intends to bring opium in China by ship. However, because Rev. Elders (Matthew Bloomfield) is an outspoken critic of Lord Lindsay, he's killed. Hopefully, with the help of Rev. Elders' Chinese friends, his son, Jonathan, is taken to a safe village.

The Vancouver-lensed TV series, debuting on ABC, November 3, 2009 is a 're-imagining' of the 1983 miniseries created by Kenneth Johnson, chronicling the arrival on Earth of a technologically advanced reptilian alien species which ostensibly comes in peace, but actually has sinister motives.

Classic 80s sci-fi series V gets the reboot treatment with this series that originally aired on ABC in the States and SyFy here in the UK. And whilst this is V, this is not your fathers V. This new iteration really is the epitome of the very Hollywood concept of reboot – this is not a mere remake, it takes the same core idea as the original series but builds an entire new show around it, one that feels alot more relevant to todays post 9/11 world. Out are the analogies and parallels with World War 2 and the ideas of totalitarinism and communism, and in are the more modern themes of terrorism and the “alien” as invader.

When the new version of V first showed up, I was surprisingly hopeful. Back when it was simply a theory, I had little interest in a reboot of the camp alien drama, especially since reworking anything that Marc Singer has been a part of is pure folly. Like many of our recent trips back to the ’80s, there is too serious an air at work here, but the first few episodes were actually rather interesting. After that, the ratings proved that there was a market for the show, and that it was doing a fair job living up to whatever expectations had drawn viewers in.

We’ve been bringing you lots of coverage of ABC’s popular ongoing reboot of the series V as of late. Scott Wolf, Laura Vandervoort, and Joel Gretsch have all spoken with us about the show, and in continuing that trend, we recently got the chance to sit down with Logan Huffman, who plays “Tyler” on the show.

Logan doesn’t come from a big acting background or know somebody in the industry. He was picked to play the role on V because he was perfect for it, and he couldn’t be more humble about it. We were able to ask Logan lots of questions about things to come on the series, and he was more than happy to let us in on a few secrets.

The Flickcast: With things up in arms both planet-side and on the ship, what can you tell me about tonight’s episode of V?...

Simon West, who last year helmed the pilot for Fox's action drama "Human Target," is back on pilot-directing duty this season with NBC's drama "The Cape," about a former cop-turned-masked hero.

Meanwhile, in a sign that broadcast networks are looking to emulate the light, quirky feel of USA Network series for their crop of shows, a pair of hot USA pilot directors -- Jace Alexander and Bronwen Hughes -- are making a transition to broadcast pilots.

Alexander, who helmed the pilots for USA's hits "Burn Notice" and Royal Pains" as well as the pilot for Syfy's breakout dramedy "Warehouse 13," is tapped to direct ABC's drama pilot "Edgar Floats," about a police psychologist-turned-bounty hunter. With its pseudo historical storyline, vicious combat, free world parkour roaming, and just massive cool factor, 2007’s Assassin’s Creed was a massive hit, selling over eight million copies and launching a new entertainment franchise. While the game was very repetitive (how many viewpoints can there be in one city) and ended with a massive cliffhanger, the anticipation for the sequel is massive. Stephen McPherson, president, ABC Entertainment Group, today outlined ABC's plans for next season and unveiled the network's 2009-10 fall schedule before the advertising and media communities at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall.

New fall and midseason series include "Cougar Town," "The Deep End," "Eastwick," "Flash Forward," "The Forgotten," "Hank," "Happy Town," "The Middle," "Modern Family," "Shark Tank" and "V."

"Better Off Ted," "Castle," "Scrubs" and "True Beauty" join previously announced returning series "America's Funniest Home Videos," "The Bachelor," "Brothers & Sisters," "Dancing with the Stars," "Desperate Housewives," "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost," "Private Practice," "Supernanny," "Ugly Betty," "Wife Swap" and 20/20. "Saturday Night College Football" will also return.

"Our focus is always on delivering the best stories with the most memorable characters on TV, whether that's established audience favorites or innovative new shows," said McPherson.

Jason Winer has been tapped to direct and Sofia Vergara to co-star in ABC's comedy pilot "An American Family," while Stephen Graham has reunited with his "Gangs of New York" director Martin Scorsese with a role on the HBO pilot "Boardwalk Empire."

In other pilot news, Dean Parisot is set to direct ABC's "I, Claudia," Yves Simoneau has come on board to helm ABC's sci-fi "V," and Eden Sher has been added to ABC's comedy "The Middle."

Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd's documentary-style comedy "Family," from 20th TV, revolves around three families: one traditional; another that includes a 60-year-old man who becomes a stepfather after marrying a Latina (Vergara) 30 years his junior; and the third, a gay couple who have just adopted a Vietnamese baby.

Vergara's casting stems from her talent deal with ABC. The Colombian-born actress will next be seen in "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail.

We've got George Lucas' Red Tails, about first African-American fighter pilots in WWII, heading into production soon; Spike Lee's Miracle at St. Anna, about four black soldiers from the all-black 92nd Infantry Division in WWII, just hit theaters last month. Next up is Harlem Hellfighters, written by Travis Adam Wright (of Eagle Eye), that tells the true story of black soldiers from Harlem who brought jazz music to France when they were sent there during World War I. Lord of the Rings producer Rick Poras will help co-produce with Wright and Canadian filmmaker Yves Simoneau has signed on to direct. Wright has high ambitions for the project and hopes to assemble a cast of "the greatest living black actors." The project will most likely shoot in the Us and Gaul.
