To be fair, I’d probably lose my job and disappoint my father if I set out to write a “celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race,” too.

Tragically, the “scared straight”-style wilderness intervention he was subjected to as a teen didn’t take, and Chet Hanks has achieved only infamy in his decades-long struggle for pop-culture relevance. His song “White Boy Summer” is the closest he’s gotten so far, but the intended “celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race” has turned into more of a white privilege/white pride anthem.

Former Arrowverse star Grant Gustin has revealed that there's only one role he wants to play in DC Studios chairmen James Gunn and Peter Safran's new cinematic universe. Gustin played Barry Allen in The CW's The Flash TV show from 2014 to 2023.
Gustin was a special guest at Fan Expo Denver over the July 4 weekend, where he took part in a Q&a with fans. One attendee filmed a hilarious exchange where a young fan asked Gustin about the possibility of joining Gunn and Safran's Dcu in the future.
"If James Gunn cast you in his Dcu, who would you want to play?" Gustin was asked, before shrugging and replying: "Flash!"
Gustin's response drew huge cheers from the audience and his fellow former Arrowverse cast members on stage, including Flash co-star Tom Cavanagh. Barry Allen was most recently played on the big screen by Ezra Miller for a 2023 movie, but...

Thanks to Seth MacFarlane and Family Guy’s appreciation for adult contemporary music from the 1970s, Nova Scotian singer Anne Murray found a new audience with members of Stewie’s generation.
The relationship between Family Guy and the music world has always been a close one that excites and confuses fans of both the show and of Conway Twitty alike. MacFarlane’s entire oeuvre is inextricably tied to his background as a trained and talented crooner, and his appreciation for the popular music of generations past that has since fallen out of fashion with the Family Guy demographic has long encouraged younger viewers and listeners to develop an appreciation for classic showtunes, Frank Sinatra Jr. and, of course, Murray, whose appearance as herself in the 2013 Family Guy episode “Chris Cross” sparked a resurgence of youthful interest in early Canadian pop music.

From the moment Gio showed up on General Hospital, viewers have been asking: What is the point of this character? Sure, he’s sweet. And cute. And he fiddles nicely. But he hasn’t had much of a story, and even what we assume would be a romance with Trina has been put on the back-burner in favor of Big Man About Campus Football Guy. Now, anvils have been dropping like crazy that Gio is a child Brook Lynn had with Dante as a teenager and gave up to be raised by an extended member of the Cerrullo family. We had our suspicions before. But now we are sure.
Clue Number One
Gio (Giovanni Mazza) is good at music. Brook Lynn (Amanda Sutton) is good at music! This is kind of like a Johann Ambrosius Bach and Johann Sebastian Bach sort of deal. Or Will and Willow Smith. The point is,...

Frank Sinatra’s career was the highlight of mid-20th century Hollywood when he ruled the hearts and cinema screens with his inescapable aura and soulful baritone. The actor-cum-singer left an everlasting legacy that’s hard to match, which is why a film based on him, courtesy of legendary director Martin Scorsese, has faced so many delays.

While it would be tough to capture Sinatra’s larger-than-life persona on-screen, several names have often popped up for the project. However, one actor has been labeled a strict no-go by Frank Sinatra’s son, Frank Sinatra Jr., who doesn’t want to see Mark Wahlberg as his father in the film.

James Darren, the wildly diverse singer-actor who scored Billboard hits and was featured in everything from Gidget to Tj Hooker to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has passed away. He was 88.
Although James Darren got his career going in the late ‘50s, he found entirely different audiences beginning in the ‘80s by co-starting on the William Shatner-led police drama T.J. Hooker, in which he played officer Jim Corrigan, who primarily partnered with Heather Locklear’s Stacy Sheridan.
The following decade, James Darren was able to combine his crooning and acting skills, landing the role of holographic singer Vic Fontaine in seasons six and seven of Deep Space Nine. The role was originally offered to Frank Sinatra Jr., but he turned it down. Darren himself wasn’t entirely convinced it would work, either, but the character ended up being a fan favorite and a trademark role for Darren, who not...

Star Trek: Lower Decks could follow series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds with its own musical episode. Lower Decks has already introduced several Star Trek: Deep Space Nine characters. One of Deep Space Nine's strangest characters is perfect for Lower Decks.
One thing Star Trek: Lower Decks does incredibly well is create small sequels for beloved characters from the second-wave era of the franchise. Meanwhile, Strange New Worlds delivers classic Star Trek stories with a modern twist, including incorporating song. The series' musical episode was a genuine zeitgeist moment for Star Trek, with a cast recording being officially released. Of course, among the Trek faithful, new ideas can be divisive. Some fans praised the musical episode but said it "wasn't Star Trek." Interestingly, Lower Decks doing its own musical episode would provide the perfect vehicle for the return of Vic Fontaine.

Jim Mahoney was one of Hollywood’s go-to guys. He spent 60+ years in public relations, guiding the images of Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra, Steve McQueen, Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, Christie Brinkley, Peggy Lee, and hundreds more.
He was on the front lines when Frank Sinatra Jr. was kidnapped, and was at the party at Peter Lawford’s house the night Marilyn Monroe died. He was also there with the Rat Pack in Las Vegas.
Now age 95, Mahoney has captured all of that in a memoir, Get Mahoney!: A Hollywood Insider’s Memoir. “Get Mahoney!” was the phrase often used when stars and their handlers knew trouble was brewing and needed to keep their names out of the press. Mahoney was good at his job, and frequently referred to himself as a better “suppress” agent than press agent.

We all know "The Sopranos" was one of the best shows in history, but we don't talk enough about how it also had some of the best cameos in TV history. Many of the great ones involved famous figures playing themselves, like when Christopher (Michael Imperioli) pitches a project to Sir Ben Kingsley or when Frank Sinatra Jr. and David Lee Roth attend poker games alongside Tony (James Gandolfini). But there were also some noteworthy cameos from actors who hadn't made it big yet when they appeared on David Chase's crime opus, including a pre-"Arrested Development" Tony Hale.
At this point, Hale has had a varied and lengthy comedy career, appearing in shows like the hilarious political satire "Veep" and "Harley Quinn," and films like "Stranger Than Fiction" and "Hocus Pocus 2." The actor is best known, though, for his turn as Buster Bluth on the cult favorite sitcom "Arrested Development.

The podcasting business is expected to hit $1B in revenues this year – a huge leap from the audio medium’s indie roots and self-produced successes.
Last year, during the height of the Covid pandemic, the medium exploded with a raft of A-list talent moving in, hosting and exec producing their own shows, from the comfort of their own homes (and often their bedroom closets).
ICM was responsible for high-profile series such as John Stamos’ The Grand Scheme: Snatching Sinatra for Wondery and Alan Cummings’ Hot White Heist for Audible.
The agency, through its Director of Podcast Initiatives Caroline Edwards, will continue to put together and sell projects from its stable of A-list talent, but Edwards and her team are also doubling down on growing trends in the business towards diverse voices and new areas such as children’s content.

Every horror fan has their favorite type of monster. Some people love shambling zombies, others prefer squid-faced aliens from beyond the stars, and I’m sure there are a few people out there who would swear that The Mangler is the greatest beast to grace the silver screen. But for me, one archetype has always reigned supreme: the scaly fish-man.
I can’t explain why, but ever since I was a kid, sea life has always interested me, so it should come as no surprise that as far as famous monsters go, the Gill-man’s always been my favorite. Unfortunately, being a fan of the Gill-man can lead to some issues. Unlike Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Mummy, the Gill-man was an original creation of Universal, and as such, was not in the public domain. Don’t expect to see any more “Star Wars” parodies from Fox’s animated hit “Family Guy.”
The show produced three “Star Wars” homages (2007’s “Blue Harvest,” 2009’s “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” and 2010’s “It’s a Trap!”) several years ago. But that was back before Disney acquired Lucasfilm and jumpstarted the franchise.

Executive producer Rich Appel said it was understandable, as “they’re a little more careful now that they’re rolling out new movies.”

Instead, Seth put down a pretty funny version of a Blue Eyes classic.Seth got on the mic at Lucille's in Milwaukee last Saturday night and belted out a few Sinatra songs, including "Luck Be a Lady." The season finale finds Nick and Peter more divided than ever before. They will learn their success literally comes from their partnership.
It does not seem to Jess that Pete and Nick can't agree on anything, when it comes to planning Las Vegas Legal Fund, which they are hosting together.
Shall it be classic ivory or hip maroon?
Asian fusion or Italian?
Hor d'oeuvres or buffet?
Nick again corrects Pete that he and Jess are separated, not divorced.
They do agree on one thing. The music act they want is Frank Sinatra Jr.
Before long, Nick gets a call from his friend Blake Donovan and Peter gets one from the man's wife Carly. Russell Copley, their yoga studio's master yoga teacher has been found dead.
Blake's phone message threatening Russell and oneway plane tickets to India give police enough reason to arrest them both for murder.

They argue. They jest. They spit out a tenacious verbal back and forth of witticisms. They're the frat brothers of the lawyer world and their motto is bros before, well, murder cases.
The season finale of The Defenders, "Morelli v. Kaczmarek," took this point to the forefront when Nick and Pete decided to separate. Wait, separated? How could they!?
It was all for the sake of tactic, and the chance to pick teammates like it was schoolyard dodgeball. Although, I don't know why Zoe wasn't picked first. Her bubbly demeanor brings positivity in the gravest of cases, and she completes every task without question. After all, she got Nick shoes made from baby cows.
Don't worry, Pete. The band will get back together.

Both versions of Ocean’s 11 came at a cultural moment’s high water mark, each of them an encapsulating snapshot of an optimistic aesthetic on its way out. Steven Sodebergh’s hit theaters December of 2001, and is one of the last blockbusters reflecting a confident, happy (pre-9/11, if you must) America. Its fun, joyous excess has none of the dark, brooding sentiment so visible, or so visibly hidden, in the big movies of the last seven or eight years. In the original Ocean’s 11, released in 1960, tough guys still wore suits and sang accompanied by xylophones, derided emotional depth and cracked wise at even their lowest moments. And both films have an undercurrent of melancholy and nostalgia that gives them a historical poignancy often lacking in Hollywood fare.

Chicago – When one considers that it is five-decades-old this year, the influence of the original “Ocean’s 11” is somewhat jaw-dropping. The fact is that the Rat Pack has defined cool for half-a-century now and their influence on everything from film to music to fashion shows no signs of fading. Find me another 50-year-old movie that breathes cool like “Ocean’s 11.”
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
The definitive Rat Pack movie stars Frank Sinatra as Danny Ocean, the leader of a group of heist artists planning their biggest job on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas. They’ll knock out the power and drain five casinos at the same time. With a perfect blend of comedy, action, and suspense, “Ocean’s 11” entertains as much in 2010 as it did in 1960. With co-stars Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop, Cesar Romero, Richard Conte, Red Skelton, George Raft, and Angie Dickinson, “Ocean’s 11” still crackles with energy,...

I’ll admit it now: I have a soft spot for Jerry O’Connell. I met him once at a press event for his 2001 movie Tomcats, and he signed a box containing a promotional pair of boxers “Keep puttin’ em behind bars” for my lawyer sister, who was then with the D.A.’s office. Though I can’t recall the specifics, I remember that he also entertained a handful of strangers with a story about a young woman who’d just shot him down. He’s not suave like a Clooney, but he’s effortlessly charming in his own way.

Lionsgate has pulled a Paramount and decided to sell a bunch of DVDs using a retro touch. Just as Paramount released Top Secret, Naked Gun, Flashdance and others in an “I Love the 80s” series, Lionsgate has launched a “Music Makers” series, consisting of films about musicians. Three of those titles include Ballad in Blue, A Man Called Adam, Buena Vista Social Club, and Beyond the Sea. The selection of films is quite enjoyable, and each includes a CD featuring tracks by the artists showcased in the series. So how does it all play out?

Although Family Guy: Volume Seven (20th Century Fox, $39.98) came out a few weeks ago (June 16), I wasn’t able to get my review done until now. But, like a school kid not handing in his homework, I have an excuse: My dog ate my DVD review. No, actually, what happened was 1) I didn’t get the DVD from Fox until the day of its release; 2) I was away on a Last Airbender set visit (check out our first coverage of that upcoming M. Night Shyamalan film on this site) and didn’t get back to the office until later; and 3) The friggin’ DVD set has 305 minutes of episodes that I had to listen to twice (!) because I also had to check out the audio commentaries. Throw in the special features (including three more animatic audio tracks), and the final tally to watch Everything on Volume Seven is around 12 hours.
