2025 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of the classic vampire movie Fright Night, and to celebrate, the film’s writer/director Tom Holland is teaming up with bestselling author Michael Harbron to send an official prequel novel out into the world! Also simply titled Fright Night, the novel is set to be released in October.

While Fright Night received a novelization that was written by John Skipp and Craig Spector at the time of the film’s release, Holland and A. Jack Ulrich wrote a different novelization, an “expanded version,” called Fright Night: Origins a few years ago. Harbron’s Fright Night prequel novel is set before the Fright Night: Origins story, exploring events that unfolded during a gritty and culturally explosive Manhattan in the 1970s. Sometimes when I make a video on one of my favorite movies, I find something a little extra upon further viewing. Obviously, there is some research that goes into it as I like to look up what else the writer, director, or actors did or even what possible sequels there are. Class of 1984 is one of my favorite horror adjacent titles out there from the script by Tom Holland and great performances from Roddy McDowell, Perry King, and all of the main gang members. It shows the very real fears of what teachers in bad areas could potentially deal with, only with the knob turned all the way to 11 and it’s immensely rewatchable. The A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise has some of the best heroines of the horror genre – and my personal favorite of the Elm Street heroines is Alice Johnson, played by Lisa Wilcox in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child. JoBlo’s own Ryan Cultrera was able to catch up with Wilcox at the Ve Neill’s Vampire Weekend convention in California last month and talked with her about her encounters with Freddy Krueger and the experience of working on those classic ’80s horror films. In the intervening years it has become a cult classic, a film remembered fondly by most. It is, even all these years later, still a wonderful movie. 2019 saw Creepshow return, but this time as an anthology television show that aired on the horror streaming platform, Shudder; and when that was announced I was immediately excited, being a big fan of Creepshow and Creepshow 2 for that matter (but the less said about aert three the better). Premiering on September 26th, the first season of Creepshow featured six episodes, with two separate tales to be found in each of those episodes.

Yesterday, we shared the news that Encyclopocalypse Publications, the company that not only brought John Skipp and Craig Spector’s novelization of Fright Night and Jeff Rovin’s novelization of Re-Animator back into print, but have also commissioned new novelizations of older films like Scared to Death, Wishmaster, Vamp, Titan Find (a.k.a. Creature), and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, is set to bring us a novelization of the 1989 Troma release Redneck Zombies. But that’s not the only novelization they currently have in the works. Encyclopocalypse Publications has also announced that they’ve got Snow Shark author Brian G. Berry working on a novelization of the 1986 low budget classic Nail Gun Massacre, while A Bouquet of Viscera author Bridgett Nelson is writing a novelization of the unnerving 2008 film Deadgirl!

Written and directed by Terry Lofton, Nail Gun Massacre told the following story: Forget about that guy with the chainsaw.

Encyclopocalypse Publications not only brought John Skipp and Craig Spector’s novelization of Fright Night and Jeff Rovin’s novelization of Re-Animator back into print, they’ve also been commissioning new novelizations of older films. Matt Serafini wrote a novelization of the 1980 sci-fi horror film Scared to Death, while Christian Francis wrote novelizations of 1997’s Wishmaster, 1986’s Vamp, and 1985’s Titan Find (a.k.a. Creature). On the more recent side, Bret Nelson wrote a novelization of 2011’s Manborg. A couple months ago, we heard that we’ll be getting a novelization of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes from Encyclopocalypse Publications and author Jeff Strand. And now it has been revealed that Encyclopocalypse Publications also has a novelization of the 1989 Troma release Redneck Zombies (watch it Here) in the works!

Mark Alan Miller and his creative team at Encyclopocalypse have been bringing horror books to life with compelling audio versions, and now the company is expanding with the launch of a publishing imprint for original content and movie novelizations, including Fright Night and Re-Animator:

Miller announced this week that his company Encyclopocalypse, which specializes in audio adaptations of notable works of horror literature, will be expanding into publishing books itself under a new expansion that will encompass both paperback and e-books.

The move came about partially as a result of Encyclopcoalyse acquiring the audio rights to John Skipp and Craig Spector’s novelization of Fright Night, the classic 1985 horror comedy starring Roddy McDowell and Chris Sarandon.

Horror anthologies have made a pretty healthy comeback in the last few years; some are ok, some are regrettable, and some have awesome production values as well as good stories, such as Tales Of Halloween. Created by director Axelle Carolyn, Tales features 11 directors helming 10 tales of bad behavior, wickedness, madness, and spooky fun, with an animated opening sequence by Ashley Thorpe. This Creepshow anthology series is going to offer some fun and horrific entertainment! I had the opportunity to watch the first episode of the series, which I really enjoyed, and I’m looking forward to watching the rest of them. You can tell that Greg Nicotero is having a blast making this series, which is a revival of the 1980s horror anthology films from George Romero and Stephen King.

As a big fan of those films, I enjoy how the series emulates those in its style, and you’ve gotta love the practical effects that were utilized to bring these 12 stories to life for our viewing entertainment.

I love watch horror movies and shows that are both scary and fun, and it looks like Greg Nicotero’s upcoming anthology series Creepshow is going to give us a show where the audience is going to have a blast being scared!

Prepare to get your creep on, horror fans. Shudder released the trailer for its new anthology series “Creepshow” ahead of the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con Friday and set a Sept. 26 premiere date for the project.

I’ve got a new poster and photo to share with you today for Greg Nicotero’s upcoming Creepshow horror anthology series. This is a revival of the 1980s horror anthology films from George Romero and Stephen King. As a fan of those films, I’m pretty pumped up about what this new series will deliver.

One of the many reasons George A. Romero's Creepshow continues to thrill and chill horror fans more than 35 years after its initial release is thanks to the makeup effects by Tom Savini (who also played one of the movie's garbagemen in the memorable wraparound segment). It's fitting, then, that Savini has been announced as the director of one of the episodes of Shudder's new Creepshow series, based on a story by Joe Hill, who played Billy in the film's wraparound segment.

The Walking Dead executive producer Greg Nicotero will head a TV series revival of the classic horror anthology movie, Creepshow.

Creepshow is coming back in a big way, this time headed to the realm of peak television!

Shudder, the premium streaming service owned by cable channel AMC, is reviving the Stephen King/George Romero-crafted Creepshow horror anthology film as a television series. Moreover, AMC has tapped talent from its own tent, appointing The Walking Dead executive producer and legendary effects maestro, Greg Nicotero, to serve as director, executive producer, and overall supervisor for the small screen endeavor.

In the latest news, another trio of cast members, David Arquette, Tricia Helfer and Dana Gould, have just been added, and the great Tom Savini is now confirmed to occupy the director's chair for an episode.

Like with any long-running slasher movie franchise, every horror fan has a favorite Nightmare on Elm Street sequel when asked. The most popular response is Dream Warriors, which, based on anecdotal evidence, many fans prefer even to the first film. Some like its follow-up, the Renny Harlin-directed The Dream Master, best. Very rarely, if ever, do Nightmare fans name the fifth installment, 1989’s The Dream Child, as their favorite. For years, he's brought the dead to life in books like Patient Zero and Rot & Ruin, so it's rather fitting that prolific author Jonathan Maberry has now teamed up with the legendary George A. Romero to co-edit an anthology set within the early stages of the zombie uprising in Night of the Living Dead. Titled Nights of the Living Dead, the new anthology is now available from St. Martin's Press (check out our giveaway here), and to celebrate, we caught up with Maberry for our latest Q&A feature to discuss his work on the living dead dream project, and we also have a claustrophobic excerpt from his short story "Lone Gunman."

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Jonathan. How did the opportunity come about to collaborate on a Night of the Living Dead anthology with the legend himself, George A. Romero?

Nearly 50 years ago, George A. Romero changed the horror genre as we know it with his big screen story about a fateful evening when the dead rose to feast on the flesh of the living. Now, almost half a century later, St. Martin's Press revisits that night with a new anthology of short stories set in the world of Night of the Living Dead. Co-edited by Jonathan Maberry and George A. Romero himself (who also wrote one of the stories in the book), the anthology will be unleashed on July 11th, and we've been provided with one paperback copy to give away to one lucky Daily Dead reader.

Edited by Jonathan Maberry and Romero himself, a new anthology titled Nights of the Living Dead has been announced for a 2017 release and will follow other survivors in the world of Romero’s classic 1968 film.
