‘Invitation to a Murder’ (2023). Movie Review
Invitation to Murder is a mystery film directed by Stephen Shimek.

Does a story about England, an invitation, different characters and a murder to be solved sound familiar? They’re called whodonit, and the greatest exponent of the genre was the ever-great Agatha Christie.

Here’s a charming film that captures the essence, step by step, without the minimum intent of originality.

Delightful in its evocation of English traditionalism.

And in its consequent repetition, too.

Movie Review

Curiously enough, this is actually a French production in which everything takes us to England, to those stories that, although already a bit worn out by repetition, continue to captivate. A good mystery for a film that, without a doubt, we have already seen.

There is nothing original in a film that is a tribute to the English writer and, in the end, little more than a rather televised episode that may entertain...

William Fichtner Interview: 88
Image
The political thriller 88 is a thought-provoking film that feels both urgent and relevant. Written, directed, and even edited by Eromose, 88 tells the story of a financial director for a democratic super Pac who discovers something curious about their group’s donation records. 88 stars Brandon Victor Dixon as Femi Jackson, Orlando Jones as Harold Roundtree, and Amy Sloan as Agatha Frost, among others, and premiered in 2022 at the Tribeca Film Festival. 88 is not necessarily a subtle film, but it gets a powerful message across thanks to powerful performances, intentional writing, and certain informational elements reminiscent of Adam McKay’s Vice and The Big Short.

Many of the biggest thematic conversations in 88 are had in an interview setting, where Orlando Jones’ character, presidential candidate Harold Roundtree, is interviewed by Ron Holt, played by William Fichtner. Fichtner is an actor with an incredible career under his belt, having worked...

Another Whodunit Mystery in 'Invitation to a Murder' Official Trailer
Image
"You gotta get down into the muck if you wanna find the truth." Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for another whodunit murder mystery movie called Invitation to a Murder, which is skipping theaters entirely and is debuting on VOD directly in April this spring. Once you get a look at this, you'll understand exactly why. This is some low rent cheap junk, and the cast is especially mediocre, too. Set in the South of England in 1934. For no apparent reason and also like five other unrelated people, Miranda, a 28-year-old florist, is invited for the weekend in the mansion of billionaire Lewis Findley. What's become of their absent host? And who just murdered one of the guests in cold blood? Of course, there's only one way to find out – pay the money to rent and watch this movie. It stars Mischa Barton, Chris Browning, Seamus Dever, Giles Matthey, Grace Lynn Kung,...

Samuel Goldwyn Films Buys Political Thriller ‘88’ (Exclusive)
Image
Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired North American rights to “88” following its world premiere at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival. The political conspiracy thriller was directed by Eromose, the filmmaker behind “Nostradamus” and “Legacy.” It has an impressive cast that includes Brandon Victor Dixon, Naturi Naughton, Orlando Jones, Thomas Sadoski, Michael J. Harney, Amy Sloan, Kelly McCreary, Jon Tenney, Kenneth Choi and William Fichtner.

“88” was executive produced by multimedia mogul Lenard “Charlamagne Tha God” Mckelvey. Hunter Arnold, Linda B. Rubin, Eromose, Brandon Victor Dixon and Warren Adams served as producers. The film will be released in theaters and on digital platforms next year.

The film follows Femi Jackson (Dixon), the financial director for a Democratic super Pac behind a frontrunner presidential candidate. He discovers unusual patterns in donations and enlists an investment blogger, Ira Goldstein (Sadoski), to dig deeper. As Femi’s wife Maria (Naughton) strives to educate their son on the...

Academy Awards Film Series: Scorsese's Spielbergian Biopic Comes Crashing Down Each Time After Take-Off
'The Aviator' movie with Leonardo DiCaprio as bizarre billionaire Howard Hughes: Bloated biopic. 'The Aviator' movie review: What's not good for the Spruce Goose… Imagine Citizen Kane directed by the Steven Spielberg of The Color Purple, Schindler's List, Amistad, and Saving Private Ryan. The final result would look something like a Barry Levinson film – for instance, the superficial and phony Bugsy. Or, an even more appropriate example, the superficial, phony, and bloated The Aviator. Except, of course, that Levinson is not the man responsible for the 2004 mega-production starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the eccentric, billionaire ladies' man Howard Hughes. Strangely enough, that man is Martin Scorsese, the director of hard-hitting films such as Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Gangs of New York. Scorsese, a fan of Old Hollywood, apparently wanted to have some fun with the reported $110 million budget (approx. $138 million in 2016) made available to him. The director no doubt had a ball while making The Aviator,...
