Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” is considered one of the greatest rock songs of all-time — an epic multi-movement masterpiece that clocks in at a whopping eight minutes in length.
Though it’s not the first thing that comes to mind when “Stairway” is mentioned, John Bonham’s controlled and tempered drumming is foundational to the song’s arrangement — as Drumeo highlighted in a new deep dive video.
In the informative clip, Drumeo host Brandon Toews and a couple famous drummers walk viewers through Bonzo’s mechanics and playing techniques on “Stairway,” with Toews playing through the arrangement to shine a spotlight on the kit-work specifically.
For example, Toews breaks down the subtleties of Bonzo’s playing during specific parts — such as when he accents the guitar riffs with the tom drums during the famously odd-timed bridge, a part that stumps even a virtuoso like Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy.

They’re back! The first official trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues has dropped, and we see the lads from the legendary British rock band reunite for one last gig.
In the clip, we see filmmaker Marty Dibergi catch people up with what’s happened to Spinal Tap since his first film, This Is Spinal Tap. We then see the central Tap trio of Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) all looking their age and leading rather sedentary lives, in stark comparison to their past lives as stadium rock gods. The trailer then shows us efforts by the band to reunite for one last hurrah, including their efforts to recruit a drummer suicidal enough to play the gig, their merchandising efforts and whether one (or two) of them dying on stage would help boost publicity for the gig and cement their legacy.

Spinal Tap reunite for one last concert in the latest trailer for the classic rock mockumentary’s upcoming sequel.
The preview for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues opens up with highlights from the Rob Reiner’s 1984 film before Reiner himself — as documentarian Marty Di Bergi — reveals the purpose of the 40-years-later documentary: To celebrate Spinal Tap’s legacy by bringing together Michael McKean’s David St. Hubbins, Christopher Guest’s Nigel Tufnel, and Harry Shearer’s Derek Smalls (and whatever fearless drummer they can recruit) for a final gig in New Orleans.

Billy Idol is one of many in the music industry grieving Tuesday after the legendary Ozzy Osbourne died at age 76. In Idol’s case, he credits Osbourne for “showing us the way” to succeed as punk-rockers. Just last October, Idol helped celebrate Ozzy’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist by performing “No More Tears” at the ceremony, joined by his bandmate Steve Stevens, one-time Oz collaborators Zakk Wylde and Robert Trujillo, along with the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith. During interviews at the time, Ozzy praised Idol and said he, too, should be inducted into the Cleveland shrine, and it was no coincidence that Billy found his name among this year’s nominees, even if he didn’t make the cut this time. Here, Idol remembers Osbourne for his indelible mark on music and the path he carved for those who came after him.

Not to be overlooked amid all the kick-ass performances at Black Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” farewell concert on Saturday — and there were many — was the surprise showing by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler. Lest we forget that Aerosmith were forced to pull the plug on their own farewell tour last year due to a serious vocal injury suffered by Tyler a year earlier. But on Saturday, Tyler was front and center, fronting an all-star superjam also featuring Tom Morello, Nuno Bettencourt, Andrew Watt, Rudy Sarzo, and Chad Smith — and he sounding absolutely great in the process.
Tyler sang a total of three songs, including “The Train Kept A-Rollin'” and “Walk This Way,” but it was the cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” where his vocals really shined. Tyler’s Aerosmith bandmate Joe Perry recently revealed that the band was “talking” about a potential comeback; after Tyler’s...

“For my money, it's like Love, Death + Robots should be anything. Anything that you can't figure out where else it goes,” legendary filmmaker David Fincher mused about the unconventional, sci-fi/cyberpunk-flavored Netflix (mostly) animated anthology series. It’s as apt a description as any for the ambitious, experimental, and genre-bending project, now launching its fourth season.
“Creativity happens on the fringe,” said Fincher — the director behind boundary-pushing cinematic classics like Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network, Gone Girl, and Zodiac. Speaking on stage at the Love, Death + Robots season premiere at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, he was joined by fellow executive producer Tim Miller (Deadpool) and supervising producer Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2 & 3). “It always does, and it always takes somebody — it has to be these weird flyers out there — to inform where the industry is going to go. So we're just going to be out there.

Morrissey will resume his North American tour tonight, May 5, after postponing a pair of shows due to health issues.

Get ready to smell the glove all over again. With a long-in-the-works sequel on the horizon, the original This Is Spinal Tap is rocking back into theaters for its 41st anniversary. A new trailer from Bleecker Street showcases the highlights (and lowlights) of the landmark mockumentary. The remastered film hits theaters on July 5 for a limited run until July 7, thanks to Fathom Entertainment.
The trailer hits the comedic highlights of the film, as represented by the litany of misfortunes that befall the hapless rockers on an American tour. That includes getting lost on their way to the stage, the band getting second billing to a puppet show, and, of course, the stage props for their progressive rock epic "Stonehenge" being built eighteen inches tall instead of eighteen feet, putting them at risk of being "crushed by a dwarf." It also spotlights some of the band's pitch-perfect parody discography, including "Heavy Duty" and "Big Bottom.

Elton John and Brandi Carlile’s collaborative album, Who Believes in Angels?, has now arrived in full, and to celebrate the occasion, the duo appeared on Saturday Night Live for a rocking musical performance.
Introduced by host Jack Black, John and Carlile’s portion of the evening saw the SNL stage decorated in the neon signs and bright colors of the Who Believes in Angels? album artwork. For their first song, the duo performed the album cut “Little Richard’s Bible,” leaning into the ‘50s-inspired rock sound.
During the tune, John howled out the poetic tribute to his late friend and influence as his fingers kept down the rolicking piano line. At one point, he even let loose a solo, evoking his younger self and standing up out of excitement in a particularly up-beat moment. Carlile, playing guitar, looked on with a warm smile.

Elton John retired from touring in 2023, and last year, he experienced a serious health scare involving his vision. But for an artist with his work ethic and drive, slowing down was never really an option. In fact, his latest collaborative album, with country maverick Brandi Carlile, is a heartwarming burst of rejuvenation and reflection. Elton has always been one of music’s most avid team players — his last album was the all-star Lockdown Sessions (which included a tune with Carlile), his most recent mega-hit was a remix with Dua Lipa,...

Elton John reflected on his own mortality while making his new album with Brandi Carlile. In a recent interview on the SmartLess podcast, the music legend said he got deeply emotional thinking about the end of his life, thanks to the lyrics of an upcoming song, titled “When This Old World Is Done With Me.”
“And so I’m writing the verse, like, ‘Oh, this is really pretty,’ and then I get to the chorus, and, of course, it’s about my death,” he told hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes,...

Elton John and Brandi Carlile had a very excited audience grooving, laughing and cheering during their special one-night-only concert at the London Palladium on Wednesday night.
The gig, dubbed “An Evening With Elton John & Brandi Carlile,” mixed a showcase of songs featured on their highly anticipated collaborative album Who Believes in Angels? with some of their respective greatest hits after the duo sat down to discuss their friendship and more with interviewer Dan Levy.
In a wide-ranging conversation, John discussed among other things Lgbtqia+ rights, wanting to support younger artists (he name-checked such recent success stories as Chappell Roan, Charli Xcx, and Sabrina Carpenter), how he owns an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 pairs of sunglasses, how he hopes the joint album will help Carlile reach a broader global audience, how he struggled getting started on their album due to the Israel-Gaza situation and what words he wants on his gravestone.

The long-awaited This Is Spinal Tap sequel is set to hit theaters this fall, and the metal greats are returning with a new set of amps that — believe it or not — go past 11.
Spinal Tap II: The End Continues will be released on Sept. 12, with Rob Reiner’s new film securing distribution from Bleecker Street. The announcement today is accompanied by a short teaser, which doesn’t show much, except a hand — likely that of guitarist Nigel Tufnel (played by Christopher Guest) — plugging into an amp and adjusting the levels.

American Idol kicked off Sunday night with its annual promise: to serve as a launching pad for aspiring young musical talent. But some contestants already have a head start with a familiar advantage: the lineage of a famous family.
Season 23 rolled out its first “nepo baby” with Baylee Littrell, son of Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell, who auditioned in front of judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
“There’s something about you that looks familiar,” Underwood said to the 22-year-old Georgia hopeful.
Idol didn’t hide Baylee’s background, it leaned into it: showing footage of dad Brian introducing him onstage and performing, and a photo of Underwood with Backstreet Boys posters on her wall.
Brian Littrell made the case for his son, saying that being the progeny of a famous singer isn’t exactly a perk. Still, it didn’t hurt his chances either, as he earned...

Elton John and Brandi Carlile have teased another song from their upcoming collaborative album, Who Believes in Angels? “Swing for the Fences” is a buoyant pop-rock moment from the pair of musical legends and friends.
On the anthemic rock track, the pair offers up a slice of hope and encouragement. “Go on and swing for the fences/Take a shot at the moon,” they sing on the catchy hook. In the vein of the album’s split nature between their two styles, the song is one of the more Carlile-led tracks.

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a…bunk bed? The 26-year-old, up for a total of six awards at the ceremony including best new artist and album of the year, made her debut on the Grammys’ stage with Sunday night‘s performance.
Roan catapulted into megastardom last year. Her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, made its Billboard 200 debut in April, months after its September 2023 release. The impressive feat proved to be only the beginning as the singer had several of her debut album’s songs chart on the Billboard 100 throughout 2024. “Pink Pony Club,” originally released in 2020, has spent 32 weeks on chart and currently sits at No. 46.

Jaden Smith stunned the 2025 Grammys early on by wearing a castle on his head on the red carpet.
Jaden posed for photos with a large black castle on his head with a circular cut-out to make way for his face. Underneath, the “Summertime in Paris” singer wore a classic black suit, though it’s unclear why he chose to wear the architecture-inspired piece.
According to The New York Times, the headpiece was sculpted by Transylvanian designer Dora Abodi.
Jaden walked the red carpet alongside his sister Willow Smith, who professionally goes by Willow, who wore a McQueen tailored coat featuring a T-bar chain detail with an embellished bra and underwear set and a pair of Versace pumps.
