Amazon Cancels Neighbours Again After Just 2 Seasons on Freevee
Image
Amazon has pulled the plug on its revival series of Australian soap Neighbours after two seasons, leaving many questioning whether this was the most pointless series rescue ever. Having been on screens for almost 40 years, the long-running soap was originally axed in 2022, and saw out the final episode with a huge number of cameo appearances by many of the familiar faces who have been given their big break on the show over the years. Soon after that, Amazon Freevee agreed to pick up the series and bring it back to screens less than a year after its cancelation, making the huge celebratory series ending redundant. Now, it looks like fans have been disappointed once again.

The high-profile finale in 2022 included appearances by pop star Kylie Minogue and actors Guy Pearce and Margot Robbie, among others, and the viewership of that episode rocketed to a height the show had not seen for many years.

Neighbours’ London-Set Episodes Were a Camp, Cameo-Filled Fever Dream

Neighbours certainly knows how to go big on drama. Last year, the long-running Aussie soap was cancelled and bowed out in style with an emotional finale episode, but in a shocking twist less than four months later it was announced the show was returning, with new episodes set to air on Amazon Freevee later this year. Strewth!

Meanwhile, Freevee is offering a taste of Neighbours’ greatness, having released 50 classic episodes for fans to enjoy, plus the entire 2012 series, with more episodes on the way each month. You can currently relive iconic moments like Scott and Charlene’s poptastic wedding, poor Harold Bishop being lost at sea and then turning up with amnesia five years later, and Dee and Toadie accidentally driving off a cliff on their wedding day.

You can also revisit Neighbours power-couple Karl and Susan Kennedy’s eventful trip to London back in 2007, a bizarre sequence of episodes...

China’s Maoyan Warns of Profit Slump, Touts Diversification Moves – Global Bulletin
Image
Profits Warning Follows Box Office Slide

Maoyan, the Chinese film ticketing agency and film distribution company, has issued a warning that profits for 2022 are set to take a steep dive. Revenue for last year is expected to come in at RMB2.27 billion and RMB2.37 billion, representing a decrease of up to 31% compared with 2021. Profit attributable to the owners of the company will range between approximately RMB70 million and RMB120 million, representing a decrease of approximately 67% to 81% compared with attributable profit in 2021, which had been RMB369 million. The company’s fortunes are closely allied to the trend of the mainland Chinese box office. Nationwide theatrical grosses took a huge tumble in the second half of the year as the government stepped up its battle against the Covid outbreak, causing the full year box office to fall by 36%.

The company is now trying to diversify away from cinema ticketing with moves into distribution and production.

Kohli eyes Jayawardene's record of most runs in T20 World Cups in match v South Africa
Image
Perth, Oct 30 (Ians) Virat Kohli would be eyeing Icc Hall of Famer Mahela Jayawardena’s record as the most prolific run-scorer across T20 World Cups when India take on South Africa in one of their most crucial Super 12 outings here later on Sunday, with the charismatic batter just 28 runs away from the landmark.

While the legendary Sri Lankan cricketer has 1,016 runs from 31 matches in T20 World Cups, Kohli is on 989 runs from just 23 games. India skipper Rohit Sharma is currently fourth in the list with 904 runs from 35 T20 World Cup games.

Following a lean phase earlier in the year, the 33-year-old Kohli found his groove in the Asia Cup in the UAE and in the bilateral series leading up to the event against Australia and South Africa, and blossomed in the game against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23.

Kohli has attributed his success to fitness and meticulous preparation,...

Williamson was spot on in decision-making v Australia but strategies need to be reassessed with every game: Ian Smith
Image
Auckland, Oct 25 (Ians) Former New Zealand cricketer Ian Smith believes while Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson was spot on in his decision making in the massive 89-run win against Australia in the T20 World Cup Super 12 game at Scg on October 22, he will have to continue reassessing his “momentum” as T20 is a dynamic format where scenarios change with every match and venue.

Williamson orchestrated Australia’s demolition in their opening T20 World Cup match and soon experts started drawing comparisons between Williamson and his opposite number Aaron Finch, who is going through a lean patch.

New Zealand were clinical throughout the clash of the trans-Tasman rivals, with openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway leading the way with blazing 42 and unbeaten 92 respectively, while Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner bowled incisive spells to dismiss Australia for 111 in the chase of 201 for victory. Kiwi skipper Williamson though made just 23 in as many balls,...

Boult announcing release from central contract probably signals end of his Test career: Ian Smith
Image
Auckland, Aug 19 (Ians) Former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Ian Smith believes pace-bowling stalwart Trent Boult’s recent announcement to release himself from the Black Caps’ contract signals the end of his Test career, and added that it would be a big loss for the country’s cricket.

Boult’s request to release him from the central contract so that he could spend more time with his family and be available to play in domestic leagues around the world, was recently accepted by New Zealand Cricket (Nzc).

The 65-year-old Smith, a veteran of 63 Tests and 98 ODIs, added that the pace bowling pair of Boult and Tim Southee is the “the best combination” the country has ever seen in Test cricket.

“I think it (release from central contract) probably means the end of his Test career, I honestly do,” Smith said on Senz’s The Run Home. “That’s a shame because Southee...

Richards, Holding, Lara and Sobers are the four all-time greats of West Indies cricket: Ian Smith
Image
Auckland, Aug 17 (Ians) Former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Ian Smith has named Sir Viv Richards, Michael Holding, Brian Lara and Sir Garfield Sobers as the top-four all-time greats in the history of West Indies cricket, saying Richards is one of the most “imposing batsmen in the history of the game”.

With New Zealand in the midst of a limited-overs series against the West Indies, having won the T20Is 2-1 and looking forward to the ODIs beginning later on Wednesday, Smith, in a tribute to Caribbean cricket, named Holding as one of the most feared bowlers in the world.

“Sir Viv Richards’ exploits in 1976 deserve close attention. In one calendar year he hit seven Test centuries in just 11 matches,” Smith said on Senz Mornings. “He is without doubt one of the most imposing batsmen in the history of the game.

Neighbours Doesn’t Have to End If You Own the Official 1988 Board Game
Ian Smith in Body Melt (1993)
You can get it on eBay, you can get it in a jumble sale. I don’t care how you get it, just get it if you can. ‘It’ being The Neighbours Game, published in 1988 and currently going for around £15 on the second-hand market, making your mum’s loft a treasure trove of retro jewels worth up to £15.

But it’s not about the money, it’s about what The Neighbours Game represents – an almost infinite number of never-seen-before plotlines. Neighbours might be ending on television, but it doesn’t have to end in your mind.

Here’s how it works: the aim of The Neighbours Game is to win the most points by putting down combinations of character and storyline cards to create episodes of Neighbours. The cards have to match the colour on the board and the resulting plotline must make grammatical sense insofar as you care about grammatical sense.

Kidnappings, drownings, deadly rivalries, adultery, murder, Karl Kennedy… They’ve each had to stand in line and take their turn burning down the Lassiters Complex, getting amnesia and marrying Paul Robinson, and why?

For us, that’s why, to beam some bright Australian sunshine into our grey, grey lives. Throwing them a farewell party is the least we can do in return. But how to go about it? What snacks to prepare, or decorations to rustle up? What’s the playlist and the dress code? Don’t...

Neighbours (1985)
The Neighbours Finale Trailer Feels Like a Lost Twin Peaks Episode
Neighbours (1985)
Don’t expect brave faces or a breezy goodbye, says the official Neighbours finale trailer, we’re about to wring every last drop of wet nostalgia from our last outing as Australia’s longest-running soap opera. And good on them. Now’s not the time for understatement, now’s the time for garment-rending grief and aching nostalgia, which is exactly what this three and a half minute compilation provides.

To a haunting, reverb-y song about a reluctant break-up, the trailer takes us through Neighbours past and present. It starts sweet in the early days, with Lou Carpenter larking about with a clapperboard, Harold and Madge’s post-amnesia reunion, Guy Pearce, Russell Crowe, and more weddings than a Moonie ceremony. And then it gets sexy, and then it gets dangerous. Explosions! Murder! Violence! Fires! Plane Crashes! Horse-riding accidents! Natural Disasters! Stefan Dennis!

Next – accompanied by the sad piano version of the theme song – come the deaths.

Future of ‘The Doctors’ & ‘Daily MailTV’ In Doubt
Image
Updated: It appears unlikely that at least one of two CBS Media Ventures-distributed syndicated daytime talk shows, The Doctors and Daily MailTV, will continue beyond this season. We hear CBS employees were told today that both shows hailing from Jay McGraw’s Stage 29 Prods., are facing a possible end. There is conflicting information but we also hear there have been no official cancellations.

According to sources, Daily MailTV executives are still making their final decision whether the show will proceed with a sixth season.

The Doctors, created by McGraw, launched its first season in 2008. It was hosted by ER physician Dr. Travis Stork along with co-hosts plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon, dermatologist Dr. Sonia Batra, psychologist Dr. Judy Ho and Ob/Gyn Dr. Nita Landry.

After production was forced to shut down in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the show received a major makeover, shifting away the panel and live audience format,...

Christchurch, March 25 (Ians) Former New Zealand men’s wicketkeeper-batter Ian Smith on Friday insisted that the Sophie Devine-led side will not make it to the semi-finals of the Icc Women’s Cricket World Cup. ‘Cayne’ Drama Based On Ian Smith Novel In Works At BET+ From Gregory Poirier & Michael Strahan
Image
Exclusive: BET+ has put in development Cayne, a drama based on Ian K. Smith’s Ashe Cayne novel The Unspoken, from Rosewood screenwriter Gregory Poirier and Michael Strahan and Constance Schwartz-Morini’s Smac Entertainment.

Written by Poirier, based on the novel, Cayne tells the story of former Chicago detective and current private eye Ashe Cayne who is desperate for redemption. After refusing to participate in a police department cover-up involving the death of a young black man, Cayne is pushed out of the force. But he won’t sit quietly on the sidelines: with his intricate knowledge of Chicago, he will fight for justice for the people of the city he loves… rich and poor, the powerful and the powerless… against criminals, the gangs that rule the streets, crooked cops, and the political machine that runs city hall… even if it means putting himself in jeopardy.

Poirier will executive produce...

ViacomCBS & Dr. Phil’s Stage 29 Hit With “Unlawful Discriminatory Practices” Allegations By Ex-‘The Doctors’ Host
Image
Former The Doctors host Dr. Ian Smith is taking a diagnostic approach to endemic “racial discrimination and retaliation” issues with the syndicated series from ViacomCBS and the Dr. Phil McGraw’s production company. This comes after CBS boss George Cheeks empathetically supposedly told a fired Dr. Smith earlier this year that the situation should’ve “never happened.” and would “be investigated Asap.”

“To date, the CBS investigation remains incomplete,” an “unlawful discriminatory practices” complaint filed in recent days with the New York State Division of Human Rights and U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission states (read it here)

“The delay in the investigation is striking given how quickly CBS investigated recent allegations that Sharon Osborne engaged in race discrimination on another CBS daytime talk show called The Talk,” the filing adds of the ex-rock manager’s messy exit in March. Dr. Smith notes he has not heard from CBS on...

‘The Doctors’ Host Ian Smith Accuses ViacomCBS of Racial Discrimination, Wrongful Termination (Exclusive)
Ian Smith in Body Melt (1993)
Ian Smith, the former host of the syndicated daytime talk show “The Doctors,” has filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the New York State Division of Human Rights alleging racial discrimination and retaliation on the part of ViacomCBS and the show’s producers.

Smith, who was named as the sole host of the show in a drastic reformatting last August, claims his efforts to make the show more inclusive were repeatedly rebuffed by white producers until he was terminated in early January and replaced by a white host.

The complaint lists ViacomCBS, Stage 29 Productions and executive producers Patty Ciano and Jay McGraw as respondents.

“If my client didn’t complain about racism, he would still be the host of ‘The Doctors,'” Smith’s attorney, Rick Ostrove, said in a statement. “His repeated complaints are a show of courage. He stuck his neck...
