Why Has HBO Max Pulled All Those Original Shows and Movies? It’s Complicated
Uly Schlesinger, Haley Sanchez, Chase Sui Wonders, Chloe East, Justice Smith, Nathanya Alexander, Lukita Maxwell, and Sydney Mae Diaz in Generation (2021)
In the wake of Warner Bros. Discovery’s merger, HBO Max has removed a host of titles, including many that it produced and owns outright, prompting a single question — why?

Earlier this week, HBO Max thinned its library of available titles with the removal of 20 originals and an additional 16 movies. Some of the impacted titles were the one-season cult queer series “Genera+ion,” and animated shows like “Infinity Train” and “Summer Camp Island.” The streamer also announced that select “Sesame Street” specials would be cut, which turned out to be around 200 episodes of the iconic children’s show.

The answer is both simple and complex. Company insiders told CNBC that the dropped shows were not frequently watched but that their removal is expected to produce “tens of millions” of dollars in savings as Warner Bros. Discovery seeks to trim about 3 billion to pay down post-merger debt that has ballooned to more than 50 billion,...

Humans with enhanced powers are being hunted down and captured by an Above Top Secret government agency. As one of them fights for her freedom she realizes one of her own kind may be an even bigger threat. The New Mutants or another new X-Men film?

No, it’s Enhanced, the new film from director James Mark. He’s teamed up with co-writers Matthew Nayman (Betrayal) and Peter Van Horne for a semi-sequel to Mark’s 2017 film Kill Order. Neither the film’s poster or any press materials refer to Enhanced as a sequel to or even in the same world as Kill Order. But the connections are obvious. The mutant’s powers,...

The Prisoner, Evening One—The Review
Some 40 years ago, I sat in the living room with my Dad watching a new and wondrous TV series from Great Britain. Secret Agent’s Patrick McGoohan starred. It was, naturally, The Prisoner. And to say it was a mystery, an enigma and a riddle all twisted Möbius strip-style into one fine strangeness was an understatement. Our hero, known only as Number Six, was trapped in an oddly picturesque enclave known as the Village, a bizarre place lorded over by an ever-changing Number Two (played by Leo McKern more than once). Six’s primary goal was to escape this rabbithole, but, alas, whenever he (almost) did, he would be tracked down by relentless giant balloons and recaptured, sent back once more to the Village as if all was well with the world.

What did it all mean? Who the hell knows? Doctoral dissertations have been written about it, and explanations are,...

Kevin Spacey to Portray Jack Abramoff in Casino Jack
It's been a while since Kevin Spacey has had a notable leading role but, oh boy, does he have one now. Variety confirmed that Spacey will star as the notorious Jack Abramoff in Casino Jack, due for release next year.

In 2006, Abramoff and several colleagues were indicted, tried, and convicted of defrauding American-Indian casinos out of many millions of dollars. Hayden Christensen, Christian Campbell, Spencer Garrett, and Jeffrey R. Smith will star as several of those colleagues.

Casino Jack will be directed by George Hickenlooper, who also helmed the Warhol-era indie Factory Girl. The screenplay is by Norman Snider, who also co-wrote the script for David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers.

Hickenlooper's Heart of Darkness Finds Spacey for 'Casino Jack'
Variety posted casting news regarding George Hickenlooper's new film Casino Jack saying Kevin Spacey has signed on to star as the title character, disgraced Washington power broker Jack Abramoff. However, a trip over to IMDb reveals this must be old news and they even have several more names attached to the project. The true story-based thriller was written by Norman Snider and will feature Spacey as the once high-powered lobbyist whose bribery schemes and fraudulent dealings with Indian casinos ultimately landed him in prison. Filming is set to begin this month in Toronto, which leads me to believe the names on IMDb may actually be correct, but considering the site's track record on films in production take the following bit of news as rumor until otherwise confirmed. IMDb lists Hayden Christensen, David Cross, Christian Campbell, Christian Campbell and Jeffrey R. Smith as members of the cast. Christensen is listed as playing Michael Scanlon,...
