Special education teacher Karen Elaine Smith had had enough of her relationship with her husband, Cedric Anderson. Relatives say there were signs of trouble shortly after the couple wed on Jan. 28 at the Bethesda Temple Church in Los Angeles.
“He always showed his good side,” Karen’s mother, Irma Sykes, tells People. “He never showed the other side. Once they were married, he showed the other side.”
Police say Smith and Anderson, both 53, were married just two months before Smith packed her bags and moved out of their house in Riverside, California, in the middle of March.

“Our family angel.”
That’s how relatives are remembering 8-year-old Jonathan Martinez, a student who was shot and killed on Monday at an elementary school in San Bernardino, California.
Police say Jonathan was one of two students hit in the gunfire at North Park Elementary — though their teacher, 53-year-old Karen Elaine Smith, was the target.
Smith’s “estranged” husband, Cedric Anderson, came to her special education classroom just before 10:30 a.m. and opened fire on her without saying a word, according to police. He then shot and killed himself.

Cedric Anderson, the suspect who shot and killed his estranged wife, Karen Elaine Smith, along with an 8-year-old student at a California elementary school, described Smith as an “angel” on his apparent Facebook page.
The page that appears to belong to Anderson, 53, also has a photo in March with Smith, also 53, enjoying a date night. Police say the couple had only been married for “a few months” and had been separated for several weeks. Anderson shot and killed himself, police said.
A video posted in February appears to show Anderson saying Smith was “making me really happy.” He also said,...

Britain's Got Talent winner says 'plans are in operation' for long-mooted biopic
• Peter Bradshaw on One Chance
• Video: James Corden on playing Paul Potts
The long-mooted biopic of Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle looks like it is finally getting off the ground, thanks to the success of One Chance, the film about another Bgt celebrity, Paul Potts.
Speaking at a press conference to launch her Christmas single, Boyle said: "There are plans in operation for that" and to "watch this space".
A film about Boyle, who won the 2009 edition of Britain's Got Talent, has been in the pipeline for years, with rumours even suggesting that Glenn Close and Catherine Zeta Jones were interested in playing her. (Boyle's choice, apparently, would be Elaine Smith, who played Mary in Rab Nesbitt.)
Despite some adverse reviews – the Guardian's Peter Bradshaw called it a "treacly, tepid heartwarmer" – One Chance represents a significant step...
