Exclusive: Ramón Rodríguez has entered into a new multi-year first-look deal with 20th Television.

Under the deal, Rodríguez will develop and produce television series across broadcast, cable, and streaming, focusing on projects for Disney Entertainment Television platforms.

The deal follows the success of Will Trent on ABC and Hulu, which Rodríguez both stars in and executive produces. He made his directorial debut with the Season 3 premiere episode “I’m a Guest Here” in January, for which he received an Astra TV Award for Directing in a Drama Series.

Changing the Casting of the Characters

Many diehard fans complain that Will does not look like how he was described in the book, which was tall and blond, since Ramón Rodríguez is dark and Latino.

However, his version still features the essence of the character. He acts socially awkward, and connects to Will’s storylines, making viewers feel for his intense trauma with foster care and dyslexia.

The third season of Will Trent brought a lot of emotions to bear for its leading characters, especially Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen), who started out the season not even on speaking terms but ended in a place of both tenderness and complete romantic separation. We’re only a few weeks removed from the Will Trent Season 3 finale, and the show’s star is already pulling back the curtain on what to expect in Season 4. Will Trent was renewed for a fourth season roughly halfway through Season 3, and ABC confirmed not long ago that it plans to debut the next season before the end of the year. Starring in the lead role of Will Trent in the hit drama series is Ramón Rodriguez, known for his work in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Battle Los Angeles, and Need for Speed. Rodriguez directed the Season 3 premiere earlier this year, and during a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, he was asked if he has any plans to continue directing on the show.

"I will definitely be directing at least one episode next season. It makes the most sense for me to direct the premiere as I did this past season.

Will Trent star Ramón Rodriguez just dropped a huge update on the future of his hit ABC procedural series. Green initially expected the series to run longer than it actually did. Says Green, "...in the very beginning, it did seem like it was going to be a six-season situation because the contract with Pinewood Studios was for six years, and there were some other things. But we actually assumed that it would go for seven [seasons], so it was a bit of a shocker. TV has completely changed, though, and I always say that because it's a totally different landscape.
