There have been plenty of great sci-fi comedies in the last decade, from underrated gems to award winners and summer blockbusters. Sci-fi comedies are often best when they balance their two genres well. Movies like Back to the Future and Men in Black, for example, have thrilling stories and intriguing sci-fi concepts, as well as great jokes and strong comedic performances.

In the last 10 years, sci-fi comedies have been used to lovingly poke fun at the genre, but sci-fi has also been used as a guise to facilitate plenty of social commentary and satire. Movies like Sorry to Bother You, Palm Springs and The Lobster all use sci-fi concepts to show how unusual everyday life has become for people in the here and now. Other sci-fi comedies have used humor to lighten up some cerebral stories that could otherwise be too dystopian and depressing.

Wild Eyed and Wicked opens with a young girl named Lily (Evyn Flanders; Brave the Dark), hearing a noise outside in the dark and, picking up a sword and shield, goes to investigate. Silvia her mother tells her to get inside, which she ignores. As a result, she gets to witness her mother put a gun to her head and pull the trigger.

The now-grown Lily wakes from seeing her mother’s death in a nightmare and heads off to give fencing lessons before having a session with Genevieve, her therapist, about the nightmares and her anxiety concerning her estranged father Greg contacting her as the anniversary of that night approaches.

We also know something else is going on because, as she takes a picture of her girlfriend Willow a clawed hand briefly appears.

One of the most acclaimed horror movies of the year, A24’s I Saw the TV Glow heads home this week, and it’s joined by three other horror movies as well as an anthology TV series.

First up, Gravitas Ventures released G.S. Foxwood’s horror film Wild Eyed and Wicked on VOD outlets this past Tuesday, June 11. The film blends elements of horror, familial drama, and fantasy to “create a unique, emotionally powerful, and terrifying experience.”

Molly Kunz (Widows, The Irrational), Michael X. Sommers (Sense8), Stefanie Estes (Soft & Quiet), and Colleen Camp (Clue) star in the indie horror film Wild Eyed and Wicked.

Wild Eyed and Wicked follows Lily Pierce (Kunz) in her attempt to strike back at the medieval creature that’s haunted her family for generations.

Gravitas Ventures, an Anthem Sports & Entertainment Company, has acquired Worldwide rights to debut filmmaker G.S. Foxwood’s horror film Wild Eyed and Wicked, Bloody Disgusting has learned this morning. The film will be released on June 11, 2024 on digital and cable on demand outlets, with further details on the worldwide roll-out still to come.

Bloody Disgusting has been told, “The film blends elements of horror, familial drama, and fantasy to create a unique, emotionally powerful, and genuinely terrifying experience.”

On Monday, the movie and television industry received to major shocks, the passings of comedian Paul Reubens and Euphoria star Angus Cloud, who was only 25 years old. Many people who have worked with the actors have expressed their condolences to the families and shared emotional words towards both artists, and messages keep surfacing evidencing the mark they've left on the people around them.

Reubens legacy is enormous, while Cloud have been in the business for a short time, but he had some important projects coming next after being one of the main stars in HBO hit teen show. Fortunately, most of the upcoming productions he was involved in were able to finish filming, which means his family and fans will be able to enjoy seeing him doing what he loved at least a few more times.

Umc and Rlje Films are teaming for the release of Always and Forever, an indie drama starring Lauren London (Atl), Loretta Devine (P-Valley), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Power), Robbie Jones (One Tree Hill), Wood Harris (Creed), and Rocsi Diaz (The Bounce Back). Directed by Chris Stokes, the pic will get a day and date release in limited theaters and on VOD platforms on November 20 then Umc will exclusively stream the film beginning in early 2021.

The plot follows Nicole (Addai-Robinson), who seems to have it all – a great job, an adoring husband (Jones) – but her perfect world is shattered when her childhood friend is suddenly found dead. The tragedy reunites Nicole with her best friends from years ago, but they each soon find themselves in danger, targets of a deranged stalker. As the secrets of their past come back to haunt them, they’ll soon realize that a deadly nightmare is just beginning...
