One of the funniest comedies of the 2000s will soon become available to watch for free as fans await its long-gestating film adaptation. The award-winning sitcom, Community, lands an imminent streaming debut on Tubi.

Tubi confirmed that Community will begin streaming on its free-of-charge service on Mar. 1. This is good news for fans of the hit series who aren't Peacock subscribers as the show has been available on the NBCUniversal streamer since last April. Also, it allows Tubi's growing viewership base to see the sitcom, considering over 97 million active users were on the Fox Corporation-owned service in 2024.

Chicago – Getting the opportunity to trod upon the very ground that Ernest Hemingway once trod must have been a heady experience for the producers of “Papa Hemingway in Cuba.” But location simply isn’t enough if such a literary legend is to come to life.

The film was directed by noted producer Bob Yari, his second effort, but it smacked of something that had problems all along the way, including sound design and story structure. Yes, the production got permission to film at the actual sites of Hemingway’s haunts in Cuba – his house, for example, had been lovingly preserved by the government there – but unfortunately that seemed like enough for the film. There was absolutely no life to the story, and there were several bad casting choices…including Papa Hemingway…and the film lands with a thud rather than a heralding for the man, image and essence of the legendary writer.

The fact-inspired film Papa: Hemingway In Cuba is a prime example of why a good director matters. As some sage once said, “If it was easy, everyone would do it.”

The film is first American film shot in Cuba since Castro’s 1959 revolution, and there is so degree of thrill in seeing Hemingway’s home and the actual locations he frequented. In fact, the story takes place in 1959, with true-story basis loaded with dramatic potential. Sadly, producer-turned -director Bob Yari fails to put to good use to those elements, along with a strong cast. Only the most determined Hemingway devotees will get much out of Yari’s dull, pedestrian film.

At the beginning of Papa: Hemingway in Cuba, Ed Meyers (a lackluster Giovanni Ribisi), a thirty-something journalist with the Miami Globe in 1959, claims that Ernest “Papa” Hemingway (Adrian Sparks), saved his life. He says the author helped him become a writer and provided him with hope during an orphaned childhood. After Ed was fired for misspelling “maybe,” he stayed up nights during his probationary period copying each of Ernest’s short stories. “I learned grammar, dialogue,” essentially everything, he tells him and his wife, Mary (Joely Richardson), on a beach on Havana, Cuba, where the Hemingways live. This is after he makes contact with Ernest which starts a strange kind of friendship between the two – Ed’s thank you letter to Ernest was actually mailed by his girlfriend and colleague, Debbie Hunt (an underused Minka Kelly), because he was too scared to send it.

The legendary Ernest Hemingway was on-hand, as a journalist, covering many of the 20th century's biggest events: World War I, World War II, and the Spanish Civil War. He was also present in Havana for the Cuban Revolution.

The new biopic "Papa: Hemingway in Cuba" traces some of his time there, with a particular focus on his friendship with Denne Bart Petitclerc (Giovanni Ribisi). In this exclusive sneak peek, Hemingway (Adrian Sparks), known affectionately as Papa, apologizes for rambling to his new acquaintance.

"You're among friends here," Petitclerc assures him.

And then Hemingway asks him to choose a number between one and 10. When Petitclerc picks the number six, Hemingway starts scratching away with a pen and paper. The results prove that the famous writer never needed an excess of words to get a point across.

Papa tells the story of journalist Denne Bart Petitclerc's friendship with Hemingway, and is based on an autobiographical script by Petitclerc. The film was directed by Bob Yari, and stars Giovanni Ribisi as a young Petitclerc and Adrian Sparks as Hemingway.

The Old Globe today announced principal casting for the Globe's 2012 Shakespeare Festival. Craig Noel Award winner Jay Whittaker returns to the Festival for his third consecutive season to appear in the title role of William Shakespeare's Richard III.
