"You Carried Us Home": '1923' Star Pays Emotional Tribute to Cole Brings Plenty After 'Yellowstone' Spin-Off Star's Tragic Death
Image
Aminah Nieves, the breakout star of Paramount’s 1923, brought the house to its feet — and to tears — at the 2025 IndieWire Honors, where she was awarded this year’s Breakthrough Performance Award. Nieves, who plays Teonna Rainwater in the acclaimed Yellowstone prequel, delivered a raw, emotional acceptance speech that celebrated not only her milestone moment, but the memory of her late co-star, Cole Brings Plenty.

The award recognizes Nieves’ gut-wrenching performance as a young Apsáalooke woman escaping the brutal reality of a Catholic boarding school — a storyline that has become one of the most talked-about and socially relevant arcs in the Yellowstone franchise. But on the stage at IndieWire’s Hollywood event, Nieves shifted the spotlight to her collaborators, and most movingly, to a friend gone far too soon. It was the tribute to Cole Brings Plenty — who portrayed Pete Plenty Clouds in 1923 — that struck the most powerful chord.

The life of an iconic American figure is explored in a two-night Sitting Bull documentary. The cinematic scenes help tell the story with Kul Wičaša Lakota actor Michael Spears playing the legendary figure. This particular project, executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions, hits home for the 47-year-old. Spears’ credits include Dances with Wolves, 1923 and Reservation Dogs. Needless to say, the importance of this particular role is not lost on the indigenous actor. Here Spears opens up about the making of the project and the importance of telling an authentic story that properly honors Sitting Bull. History Channel...

Steven Spielberg's Star-Studded Western Miniseries Is Almost Impossible To Watch Today
Image
Any project involving Steven Spielberg should be easy to watch online, especially if it stars bona fide greats like Josh Brolin, Keri Russell, Will Patton, Alan Tudyk, Sean Astin, Gary Busey, Skeet Ulrich, and Michael Spears. However, "Into the West" -- a Western drama the "Jurassic Park" director produced for Dreamworks Television and TNT in the mid-2000s -- proves that even star-studded Spielberg ensemble pieces can get lost in the ether.

"Into the West" is an ambitious project, with all six episodes clocking in at almost two hours each and covering a lot of American history. What's more, the series tapped some notable directors to helm the saga, including horse opera veteran Simon Wincer, who directed one of the all-time great Westerns in "Lonesome Dove."

The story takes place in the 1800s and spans several decades, with the cusp of it chronicling the Westward Expansion from the perspective of a white man,...

Unyielding in his resolve, he united Native Nations in an extraordinary alliance, led them in the historic Battle of Little Bighorn against US Army General George Armstrong Custer,...

‘1923’ Finale: Aminah Nieves Shares What She Was Thinking in Final Moment While “Bawling My Eyes Out”
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the season two finale of 1923, “A Dream and a Memory.”]

No one deserved justice more than 1923’s Teonna Rainwater. And in the end, justice was on her side when, after surviving her harrowing two-season saga on the Taylor Sheridan Yellowstone prequel series, viewers are left watching the Native teenager literally ride off into the sunset in the season two finale.

It’s not easy to recap everything that Teonna has been through. After escaping the abusive clutches of an Indian assimilation boarding school in season one, Teonna, who is of Crow descent, was hunted by the headmaster, Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché), for the majority of season two. The deadly penultimate episode of this season saw Renaud and his partner (Jamie McShane) murdering both the love of Teonna’s life, Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna), and her father, Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), adding to the lengthy list of people Teonna has lost while fighting for her freedom.

‘1923’: Aminah Nieves & Michelle Randolph React to Lack of ‘Closure’ in Finale
Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the 1923 Season 2 finale, “A Dream and a Memory.”] Even the 1923 cast was shocked by the show’s ending. Season 2, which is presumed to be the final season, came to a close on Sunday, April 6 on Paramount+. After killing off seven characters in the penultimate episode, the Yellowstone prequel delivered a death that was somehow even more shocking than that killing spree (and the killing spree in the finale itself). Even stars whose characters did survive the finale were surprised by their final arcs. Here, stars Aminah Nieves (Teonna Rainwater) and Michelle Randolph (Elizabeth Dutton) open up about the finale with TV Insider. Teonna ended the series a free woman at last after Marshal Mamie Fossett (Jennifer Carpenter) showed mercy upon hearing Teonna’s story of survival in their almost fatal run-in. Mamie and her crew arrived at the scene of Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), Pete (Jeremy Gauna), and Father Renaud’s (Sebastian ...

‘1923’s Brandon Sklenar Says Season 2 Finale Of The ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff “Hits Very, Very Hard” – Contenders TV
Image
Three stars of the Yellowstone prequel 1923 appearing at Deadline Contenders Television on Saturday stayed mum on the details of the two-hour finale that airs Sunday and could well mark the end of the hit series. But actor Brandon Sklenar, who plays Spencer Dutton, promised that viewers will finish Season 2 in tears, saying, “It’s funny how much you’re gonna cry.”

“That finale hits very, very hard,” Sklenar said at a panel discussion with co-stars Julia Schlaepfer and Aminah Nieves.

In creator Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel on Paramount+, husband and wife Jacob and Cara Dutton (Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren) fight to protect their sprawling Montana ranch from cattle thieves, a predatory land baron (Timothy Dalton) and an untamed, unpredictable wilderness. In a modernizing world of horseback, rail and Model Ts, 1923 takes on multiple, far-flung storylines including the harrowing flight to freedom of Nieves’ character, Teonna Rainwater. and the...

1923 Season 2 Finale: I’m Worried for Julia Schlaepfer’s Alex After Brandon Sklenar’s Tall Claims About Taylor Sheridan’s Plan
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!Warning: Spoilers Ahead for 1923 Season 2.

Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 has dragged us through hell and high water, and just when we thought the Duttons couldn’t face more adversity, the brutal, bone-chilling plotlines have taken a turn I never saw coming. I can’t be the only one who’s been left emotionally wrecked and gasping for breath after Episode 6, where all the devastation of the season is felt in a single, excruciating blow.

Now, here I am, staring down a finale that promises to not only break our hearts but potentially freeze them solid. As the Duttons push through tragedy after tragedy, one character stands out to me, caught in a storm of her own: Alexandra, played by Julia Schlaepfer.

From the moment Alex fell for Spencer Dutton, I had a sense her life was about to spiral into chaos. But I never...

‘1923’ Star on His Savage Sendoff: “I Always Thought I Would Get an Extraordinary Demise”
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the penultimate episode of 1923 season two, “The Mountain Teeth of Monsters.”]

“The darkness cannot hide from the light. And I am the light.”

Those are the words spoken by Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) when the priest finally stands before protagonist Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) with a gun to her head in the penultimate episode of 1923 season two.

Since season one, Father Renaud has been hunting Teonna, the Native girl who escaped his Indian assimilation boarding school and left murdered nuns (including Jennifer Ehle) in her wake. He spent the majority of this season tracking Teonna on horseback alongside Marshall Kent (Jamie McShane). When he finally finds her, thanks to a lit fire — after killing Kent over the murder of Teonna’s love, Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna) — Renaud shoots Teonna’s father, Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), and demands Teonna repent for her sins before he kills her, too.

But even in what she believes to be her final moment, Teonna will not relent.

Yellowstone: 1923 Season 2 Episode 6 Goes Full Game Of Thrones With Major Deaths
Image
This article contains spoilers for "1923" season 2 episode 6.

Taylor Sheridan's "1923" season 2 is full of dark moments, but episode 6, "The Mountain Teeth of Monsters," might go down in history as the "Yellowstone" franchise's "Game of Thrones."-like "Red Wedding" moment. In this episode, several major characters are laid to rest in cruel and unforgiving ways, and it all ends with Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) fighting for survival in the middle of nowhere during a snowstorm. For the first time in a while, the "Yellowstone" spin-off feels truly unpredictable -- and all bets are off.

With the Duttons set to go to war with Whitfield and his crew over their land, the family is prioritizing Spencer's (Brandon Sklenar) safe passage to Montana, as their enemies intend on assassinating the war hero when his train pulls in. However, the Duttons' focus on Spencer makes them overlook Jack (Darren Mann), who, in the latest installment,...

‘1923’ Co-Stars React to Their Fates and Momentous Impact of a Taylor Sheridan Platform
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the penultimate episode of 1923 season two, “The Mountain Teeth of Monsters.”]

The penultimate season two episode of 1923 delivered death after death. A whopping seven bodies were left in wake of the sixth episode from creator Taylor Sheridan, titled “The Mountain Teeth of Monsters.” Everything that happened will barrel the Western saga into what is sure to be a propulsive season finale, but let’s stop for a moment and mourn what was lost.

Michael Spears has been playing Runs His Horse for two seasons on the Yellowstone prequel series, with Jeremy Gauna inheriting his role as Pete Plenty Clouds after the untimely death of original star Cole Brings Plenty. Cole died about two months after the season one finale released. (A cause of death was not revealed.) Cole was the nephew of Mo Brings Plenty, the American Indian affairs coordinator on both 1923 and Yellowstone, playing Mo, the right-hand man to Chief Thomas Rainwater (played by Gil Birmingham), who is a future...

‘1923’ Shocker: Cast Sounds Off On Killing Spree In Penultimate Episode
Image
Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from the sixth and penultimate Season 2 episode of 1923 on Paramount+.

Taylor Sheridan certainly has a reputation of killing off characters to help juice his stories but did his Yellowstone prequel really need this kind of kick in the butt?

In the penultimate episode of 1923 titled “The Mountain Teeth of Monsters,” not one but seven characters meet their demise. For most viewers, at least two of the killings should have been welcome.

As for the other deaths, which include the couple that froze to death while trying to get Julia Schlaepfer’s Alex to Montana, the poor saps didn’t know what hit ’em.

Here, four of the victims of Sheridan’s Sunday massacre — Jeremy Gauna...

Mark your calendars! Here's when the 1923 season 2 finale arrives on Paramount+
Image
It’s fair to say that season 2 of1923 has been nothing short of heartbreaking, frustrating, and intense. It’s also arguably the best season of the Paramount+ series so far, and we can’t take our eyes off it. We’re already five episodes in, and while much has happened to move our story forward, just as much has happened to stall it in place. With the finish line near, you’ll want to be sure and catch the impending fate of the Dutton family in the last episode. So when can you watch?

The 1923 season 2 finale premieres Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 12 a.m. Pt on Paramount+. That is season 2 episode 7, "A Dream and a Memory." This season is one episode shorter than season 1, however the super long run time definitely makes up for it. According to Collider, the last episode comes in at almost two hours! We're in for a long night.

'1923' Season 2 Episode 6 Recap: 7 Deaths and No Sign of Mercy
Image
Episode 6 of the second season of 1923 is the most shocking and upsetting so far. Things looked better for several of the characters in Episode 5 (although not everyone), but the latest episode of 1923 — ominously called "The Mountain Teeth of Monsters" — undoes any notions of life taking a more positive swing.

As 1923 has progressed during Season 2, the focus has been on the harshness of man and winter alike. Spring begins to appear in Episode 6, but its arrival brings violence and bloodshed instead of any fresh signs of life. No fewer than seven people die in "The Mountain Teeth of Monsters," and as the death toll mounts, it's hard not to think about just how many more people will die by season's end.

"The Mountain Teeth of Monsters" emphasizes loss and all its components while proving that no one is safe. Here's what happened and who managed to survive.

'1923 'Season 2 Episode 5 Recap: Is Pete Really Dead?
Image
Episode 5 of the second season of 1923 offers the hope of winter's end but, as the title indicates, "Only Gunshots to Guide Us," spring will arrive with a bang. As Father Renaud (Sebastian Roche) and Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane) continue to hunt for Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves), Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna), and Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), both Alexandra (Julie Schlaepfer) and Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) remain on arduous journeys to reunite.

After Episode 4, Alexandra seemed to be in a better position than Spencer, but it quickly becomes clear in the latest episode that the opposite is true. There's no real information about the Duttons in Montana in "Only Guns to Guide Us," but with Spencer getting closer to home, war appears imminent.

The plight of women during the early 20th century and how it manifests itself in different settings is evident, as is the ever-present class divide, in episode 5 of 1923's second season.

‘1923’ Season 2 Episode 5 Recap: “Only Gunshots to Guide Us”
Image
Aminah Nieves and Michael Spears in ‘1923’ season 2 episode 5 (Photo Credit: Lauren Smith/Paramount+)

Paramount+’s 1923 season two episode five finds Alexandra enduring yet another devastating event in her journey to reunite with Spencer. Meanwhile, Spencer’s luck finally changes, and his trip to Bozeman takes a few steps forward. Episode five, “Only Gunshots to Guide Us,” doesn’t check in on the Duttons as they endure the winter at the Yellowstone Ranch but does show Teonna’s pursuers are closing in on her in Texas.

The following is a recap, so there are plenty of spoilers ahead!

Marshal Kent (Ross Crain) and Father Renauld (Sebastian Roche) question the men from Ja Ranch about Teonna’s whereabouts. The boss, Anders (C. Thomas Howell), is reluctant to admit he’s seen Teonna but does so only when Father Renauld confirms Kent’s story that Teonna murdered two nuns in their sleep.

‘1923’ Season 2 Review: If Only All Recent Movies Were This Thrillingly Cinematic
Image
[Note: The below review includes detailed spoilers for the first three episodes of “1923” Season 2.]

How can Taylor Sheridan juggle it all?

That’s usually asked about the creator regarding how he’s conceived and aired eight scripted TV series in a little more than six years, starting with “Yellowstone” and including “Tulsa King,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” and “Lioness.” It also applies to his current and most sprawling series, “1923.” This show, a prequel to “Yellowstone,” currently balances at least seven storylines, all featuring characters on their own journeys in different settings and largely separated from one another. Managing just the set-building alone seems a Herculean task, even if several of the storylines are shot on Sheridan’s sprawling 6666 Ranch in Texas.

What’s impressive is how all of these are built around characters so compelling that you can’t wait to “check in” on what’s happening in the next storyline — and Sheridan always leaves you wanting more, with most storylines not taking...

Will Teonna Ever Meet The Duttons? 1923 Star Gives Careful Answer
Image
1923star Aminah Nieves talks about the possibility of her character, Teonna Rainwater, crossing paths with the Dutton family. The Yellowstone prequel, created by Taylor Sheridan, follows Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) as they fight to keep their ranch alive during economic hardship and anarchy. Teonna's traumatic arc in season 1 depicted her brutal experience at a government-run residential school, where she was abused before escaping. Given that Teonna's descendants in Yellowstone share history with the Duttons, there's been speculation about whether she will eventually cross paths with the family in the 1923 timeline.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Nieves was asked about the possibility of her character meeting the Duttons in 1923 season 2. Teonna and Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) will both be in Texas in season 2, episode 4, “Journey the Rivers of Iron.” While she remained tight-lipped about the details of Teonna potentially meeting Spencer, her response only added to the intrigue.

Will There Be a ‘1923’ Season 3? Everything We Know
Image
The Yellowstone universe is expanding with 1923 Season 2, which kicked off on February 23 on Paramount+. The second Yellowstone origin story tracks a new generation of the Dutton family, led by Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren), who took over the Yellowstone Dutton ranch established by Jacob’s brother, James (Tim McGraw), and his wife, Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill), in 1883. Jacob and Cara took nephews Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and John Dutton (James Badge Dale) in as their own after James and Margaret’s deaths in addition to inheriting the ranch. They’ve been the land’s loyal stewards for decades, but Season 1 saw the ranch under threat of being taken over by Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) through a shady property tax scheme. The series also tracks another ancestor of a Yellowstone mainstay: Aminah Nieves plays Teonna Rainwater, ancestor to Gil Birmingham‘s Thomas Rainwater. In Season 2, Teonna is on the...

Yellowstone Prequel 1923 Saddles Up With Hollywood Veteran C. Thomas Howell But Don’t Get Too Attached!

C. Thomas Howell is all set to join 1923? (Photo Credit – Facebook)

The wild frontier of television just got a little wilder with the return of Aminah Nieves as Teonna Rainwater in 1923, the Yellowstone prequel that keeps expanding its rugged universe.

Alongside her, Michael Spears saddles up as Runs His Horse, while Jeremy Gauna rides in as Pete Plenty Clouds. Their latest chapter takes an unexpected turn when Teonna’s father unknowingly strikes a deal with the ranch workers they had been bunking with, leading to an uneasy alliance.

A Brief Stay for C. Thomas Howell?

As fate would have it, the family’s paths cross with a new face on the ranch, C. Thomas Howell, who steps into the role of foreman Anders. But before fans get too comfortable, there’s a catch! IMDb only lists him for a single episode, thus making his stay uncertain in the series.

1923 Season 2 Fixes One Of Yellowstone's Biggest Mistakes
Image
This article contains spoilers for "1923" season 2, episode 3, "Wrap Thee In Terror."

While "1923" can be criticized for repurposing some unpopular "Yellowstone" storylines, the prequel series is still one of Taylor Sheridan's best shows to date. "Yellowstone" lost its way as the seasons progressed, mostly due to plots that went nowhere or contained holes large enough to ride a wagon train through. The show's inability to live up to one of the franchise's main themes is an egregious error, but "1923" is doing a great job of fixing this shortcoming.

Sheridan's "Yellowstone" franchise deals with the displacement of Native Americans in the United States, but the titular series fails to explore the theme with any substance. For proof, look no further than the journey of Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), who became an afterthought in favor of more Dutton-centric drama throughout that show's five seasons. The last installment even...

Is 1923 Season 2 Lowkey Setting Up Another Yellowstone Spin-Off Series?
Image
This article contains mild spoilers for "1923."

Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" franchise is the prize horse that keeps on giving. As of this writing, it's produced three shows in total, with even more spin-offs on the way. These include a series about Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler's (Cole Hauser) post-"Yellowstone" adventures, "The Madison," which stars the incredible Michelle Pfeiffer, and "6666," which could bring back two fan-favorite characters from the main series. Sheridan's universe just won't stop expanding, and "1923" Season 2 might have just provided another avenue for the franchise to grow.

This second installment of "1923" sees Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves), Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), and Pete Plenty Clouds (Cole Brings Plenty) on the run from the authorities and some angry religious zealots, with their perilous journey taking them to the Ja Ranch in Texas. The ranch and its occupants look set to factor into the upcoming episodes,...

Jennifer Carpenter Makes Her ‘1923’ Debut as Trailblazing U.S. Marshal
Image
Jennifer Carpenter made her brief introduction this week on 1923.

The second season of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel series picked up where it left off with Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves), the Native girl who escaped the assimilation school where she was being abused in North Dakota — killing several nuns along the way — and who is now wanted by the head priest (Sebastian Roché) and a marshal (Jamie McShane) traveling with him on horseback to find her.

When Father Renaud (Roché) and Marshal Kent (McShane) trace Teonna to Anadarko, Oklahoma, they meet with the marshal in charge and are taken aback to see that it’s a woman. It’s there they are greeted by Mamie Fossett, played by 1923 new cast member Jennifer Carpenter in the early 20th century-set series.

When Kent questions her ability to serve the badge because she’s a woman, she promptly shuts him down. “You patrol this territory,...

'1923' Season 2 Episode 2 Recap: The Walls Are Closing in on the Duttons
Image
Season 2 of 1923 returns to Montana and the saga of the Duttons with the intensity fans have come to expect from Taylor Sheridan and the Yellowstone world. As winter rages and desperation reigns, it is clear throughout the first two episodes that life and love for the Duttons are destined to be as difficult as ever.

Episode 1, "The Killing Season," had an ominous title, but the second episode of season 2 of 1923 was even more menacing. Called "The Rapist Is Winter," Episode 2 was every bit as harsh and unrelenting as its predecessor, if not more so. Cara Dutton and Elizabeth Stafford try to keep the wolves at bay while Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) and his traveling companions refuse to back down from the threats winter brings.

1923 is a constant reminder of the massive shifts the United States experienced during the early 20th century. Everyone in 1923 faces the brutality of winter,...

‘1923’ Star Aminah Nieves Explains How Season 2 Honors the Late Cole Brings Plenty
Image
Aminah Nieves and Cole Brings Plenty had ended the first season of 1923 with new opportunities for their characters, Teonna Rainwater and Pete Plenty Clouds, and their blossoming love story.

The first season of the hit Yellowstone prequel series was a breakout one for Nieves as it tracked her Indigenous character, Teonna, and her epic journey escaping a 1923-set Indian assimilation boarding school run by the Catholic Church where she was abused.

After everything she endured, the season ended with her reuniting with her father (played by Michael Spears) and beginning to fall in love with the son of the man who helped save her, Pete Plenty Clouds (played by the late Cole Brings Plenty). Her final scene featured the three of them riding off to Wyoming in hopes of escaping the priest (Sebastian Roché) and other men who are now hunting her in season two, which returned after two years on Sunday.

'1923' Season 2 Episode 1 Recap: Picking Up Right Where We Left Off
Image
As a prequel to Yellowstone and a sequel to 1883, Taylor Sheridan's 1923 is a captivating look at another chapter in the Dutton family saga. Season 2 of 1923 begins where the first season ended, with the Duttons, led by Jacob (Harrison Ford) and his wife, Cara (Helen Mirren), fighting opponents of all kinds to hold onto their land.

Throughout Season 1 of 1923, Spencer Dutton's (Brandon Sklenar) experiences in Africa and his efforts to survive were juxtaposed against the threats to his family in Montana. The gun battle between the Duttons and Banner Creighton's (Jerome Flynn) group highlights the war that rages in Montana, a conflict to which Spencer is compelled to return.

This same intensity and desperation permeate Episode 1 as each member of the Dutton family attempts to survive "The Killing Season." Here's where 1923 picked up and where things are for the Duttons at the start of the second season.

1923 Season 2 TV Review: The Yellowstone prequel returns for a satisfying final season
Image
Plot: In the second season of 1923, a cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob and Cara back at Dutton ranch. With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana. Meanwhile, Alexandra sets off on her own harrowing trans-Atlantic journey to find Spencer and reclaim their love.

Review: While Yellowstone finished its run just a couple of months ago, Taylor Sheridan’s second prequel series still has a few more stories about the origin of the Dutton Ranch in Montana. Following the acclaimed ten-episode run of 1883, Sheridan jumped into the twentieth century with the Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led 1923. Envisioned as a two-season epic, 1923′s first season was a massive success as it blended a sprawling period epic across multiple continents and chronicled the early days of the Duttons...

‘Yellowstone’’s Mo Brings Plenty on Accurate Representation: “If I Can’t Get Support of That Tribe, I’m Failing at My Job”
Image
Mo Brings Plenty has openly said that he was ready to quit acting before Yellowstone came along. An enrolled member of the Lakota Nations, he was frustrated with the cultural misappropriation he saw onscreen, until he was cast in the first season of the Paramount Network flagship series that launched in 2018. As the right-hand man to Broken Rock Tribe chief Thomas Rainwater (played by Gil Birmingham), Mo (also the name of his character) began as a smaller role that expanded with each season of the Kevin Costner-led series created by Taylor Sheridan. But it’s from behind the scenes that Brings Plenty helps to provide a grassroots-level of authenticity to the franchise’s Native storylines — a rarity, he acknowledges, when it comes to representation onscreen. “If you want accuracy, then you have to come to a few of us. We’re not a dime a dozen anymore,” says Yellowstone‘s Native affairs coordinator,...

1923's Teonna Actor Reveals Biggest Hope For Character In Season 2
Image
1923 star Aminah Nieves reveals her biggest hope for Teonna in season 2. The Yellowstone prequel has followed several storylines, including the survival of Nieves’ character, a young Indigenous American woman who suffered cruel mistreatment from Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) and the Catholic boarding school she was placed in. As the series progressed, Teonna Rainwater began to rebel, escaping and finding refuge with Hank Plenty Clouds (Michael Greyeyes), and her journey will likely be an important part of 1923 season 2.

In a recent interview with TV Line, Nieves explained that while Teonna has been fighting throughout most of the series, she hopes some of her character's wit can be explored in future episodes. The actor revealed that Teonna is "smart in all the ways," adding that part of her personality was teased in the season 1 finale. Read Nieves' comments regarding Teonna in 1923 season 2 below:

5 Ways the ‘1923’ Finale Provided Closure for a Thrilling, Brutal First Season
Image
Oh “1923,” you thrilling, thoughtful, brutal show. What a finale you delivered. And for us viewers whose heads are spinning from Timothy Dalton’s Bdsm-obsessed bad guy and that heartbreaking separation for Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Alex (Julia Schlaepfer) there’s so much to process that we need that “1923” ending explained.

The thing that’s so interesting about the Season 1 finale, “Nothing Left to Lose,” written, as with every episode of the “Yellowstone” franchise, by Taylor Sheridan, is that it actually resolves quite a lot even as it sets up that much more for the future. Could it have served as a series finale if “1923” hadn’t already been renewed for Season 2? Possibly. There don’t appear to be plans for a continuation of “1883,” and the production values of “1923” are very much of the no-expense-spared variety.

But the show was a hit, captivating viewers with one of the best romances...

1923's Teonna Actor Reveals Her Toughest Scenes In Yellowstone Spinoff
Image
Warning: This post contains spoilers for the 1923 season 1 finale.Aminah Nieves shares her toughest scenes in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923. Nieves stars as Teonna Rainwater, a fierce Native American young woman who was enrolled in an American Indian boarding school. As a result of her rebellious nature, she was repeatedly punished by the Catholic school's nuns and head priest. Reaching her breaking point, Teonna kills two of the cruelest nuns and escapes into the night, becoming a fugitive of the law.

On the heels of the 1923 season 1 finale, Nieves tells EW about the two scenes in the Yellowstone prequel series that she considers the toughest she had to film. Both involved major deaths and were emotionally taxing for the actor. Read how Nieves described those grueling 1923 scenes below:

I think it's a tie between the scene when she kills Sister Mary, and the scene when Hank gets shot. Both of those scenes,...

1923 Season 2 Could Answer a Big Question About John Dutton
Image
This article contains spoilers for the 1923 season 1 finale.

Much like its very busy creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan, Paramount+’s 1923 is barely taking any time off. After season 1 of the Yellowstone prequel concluded with its finale on Sunday, Feb. 26, production on season 2 is set to get moving soon.

Before 1923 even premiered, Sheridan revealed that, unlike previous Yellowstone prequel 1883, he envisioned this new series as a two-season experience. Sure enough, Paramount+ announced the show’s season 2 renewal shortly after season 1 began airing. Then the Wall Street Journal reported that filming was set to begin on season 2 this spring. The upshot of it all is that 1923 season 2 could arrive by the end of 2023, just as both 1923 and 1883 premiered in December each of the past two years.

Though that level of “end of year” consistency is appreciated, it also means that Yellowstone fans still have a long wait to endure for more Montana madness.

1923 Episode 8 Review: Nothing Left to Lose
Image
This 1923 review contains spoilers for the episode and the Yellowstone universe at large.

1923 Episode 8

In the 1923 season 1 finale, there’s a well-written little nugget of dialogue spoken by breakout character Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) when she tells her father, with conviction, that she “believes in right now.” While inspiring, that affirmation sticks out because of the inherent dramatic irony.

Yellowstone supercreator, Taylor Sheridan, who only half a decade ago barely had one show to his name, now helms nine television shows, all in varying degrees of production. On the surface, he certainly seems like a man who has to live in the “right now”, as his time is so precious, it would be difficult to think about nice different things at the same time, so best to focus on the here and now. However, it may be fair to say that his writing has recently suffered on several of his...

‘1923’ Finale: Brandon Sklenar Breaks Down That Heartbreaking Ending For Spencer & Alex
Yellowstone (2018)
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the 1923 Season 1 Episode 8 finale, “Nothing Left to Loose.”] Spencer and Alex are geographically closer to Montana than they have been all season long in the 1923 finale, but as the Season 1 ender revealed, they’re nowhere near reaching their final destination. Season 1 Episode 8 brought the Yellowstone prequel’s debut season to a close on Sunday, February 26 on Paramount+. And while there were no deaths in the episode, there were certainly no happy endings. In Montana, Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) were struggling to find the money to buy enough hay to feed their cattle through the winter. Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn) was released from prison without bail. Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph) experienced a miscarriage. Zane’s (Brian Geraghty) wife was arrested for marrying and having children with a white man. Teonna (Aminah Nieves) was found by her father (Michael Spears) and Pete (Cole Brings Plenty), but she’s still being hunted. In ...

‘1923’ Episode 8 Recap: “Nothing Left to Lose” Season Finale
Image

Paramount+’s 1923 season one finishes up with episode eight, “Nothing Left to Lose,” an episode that ends with multiple cliffhangers and none of the three major storylines any closer to resolution. The season finale split fan-favorite couple Alex and Spencer apart, left Donald Whitfield sitting in the catbird seat, and revealed Cara’s worried that Spencer’s the Yellowstone Ranch’s only hope. And Teonna’s storyline only advanced as far as the Wyoming state line, with law enforcement and Father Renaud hot on her tail.

At least Paramount+ has already confirmed 1923 is returning for season two and we will, eventually, learn if Alex and Spencer make it to Montana. However, Paramount+ hasn’t announced when fans can expect a second season to arrive.

Aminah Nieves recently detailed filming Teonna Rainwater's brutal indigenous trauma scenes in 1923. Nieves stars as Teonna in the Paramount+ western drama, a prequel spinoff to Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone show. Early in the series, Teonna was enrolled at an American Indian boarding school where Catholic nuns pressured her to rid herself of her indigenous culture. As a result of her rebellious nature, pushing back against the cruel system, the school's faculty repeatedly beat Teonna into submission. Reaching her breaking point, Teonna kills two of the most vicious nuns and escapes into the night.

Speaking with Deadline, Nieves discussed filming the Yellowstone prequel series' brutal scenes at the American Indian boarding schools. When asked about any fears before taking part in the scenes, the 1923 actor explained that she felt the emotional weight of the work and the care she had to honor her ancestors. Read what Nieves...

‘1923’ Actor Joins Native Americans Urging Kansas City Chiefs to Change Name: ‘They’re Mocking Us’
Michael Spears
Longtime Hollywood actor Michael Spears has joined a group of Native American activists to call on the Kansas City Chiefs to change their name as the team prepares to play in Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Spears, whose credits range from 1990’s “Dances With Wolves” to the FX series “Reservation Dogs” and the Paramount+ hits “1923” and “1883,” said people would need to swallow some hard truths to end the cultural appropriation linked to the Chiefs’ moniker use.

“People think they’re honoring us with these mascots and logos, but they’re mocking us,” Spears said in a report by The Arizona Republic.

Spears, speaking from his home in Montana to the Phoenix-based outlet, said the solution is rooted in a transparent approach.

‘1923’ Renewed for Season 2 at Paramount+
Brandon Sklenar in 1923 (2022)
“1923” has lassoed a second season at Paramount+.

Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” prequel stars Harrison Ford as Dutton patriarch Jacob and Helen Mirren as his Irish-born wife Cara. The series follows their generation of the Dutton family as they face pandemics, drought and the end of the Prohibition era in 1920s Montana.

“1923” proved to be a hit early on, becoming the most-watched Paramount+ premiere of all time in the U.S. with 7.4 million viewers. It also received positive reviews, with Variety critic Joshua Alston writing that “Mirren and Ford – both 80-ish, neither a stranger to action badassery – make for such a potent pairing, their chemistry alone is enough to make ‘1923’ feel like an elevated version of Sheridan’s neo-Western fare.”

In addition to Ford and Mirren, the show stars Brandon Sklenar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Jerome Flynn and Julia Schlaepfer.

Nova Vento Ent. has unveiled an official trailer for an indie true story film titled The Year of the Dog, which is not a documentary but a feature based on real events. The film is made by Rob Grabow, who sold his condo and put everything into making this. This is that story turned into a film. A loner alcoholic finds a path to recovery when he meets a stray dog with a unique talent.
