Back To The Future Review: Robert Zemeckis' Time Travel Masterpiece Is Surprisingly Heavy
Image
Back to the Future might be the ultimate feel-good sci-fi movie. A rip-roaring adventure that's guaranteed to have you laughing, cheering, and glued to the edge of your seat, the movie remains the gold standard for time travel entertainment. Given its profound impact on pop culture, with theme parks, musical spin-offs, and video games all following in the DeLorean's fiery wake, it's easy to forget just how special the original film is. In 2024, it's clear that Back to the Future is not just a great 80s movie, but a true timeless classic in every sense of the word.

Marty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent 30 years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his close friend, the maverick scientist Doc Brown. In 1955, he meets his parents when they were his age, and must step in to make sure they wind up together before he...

How Michael J. Fox Uses His Dark Sense of Humor to Cope With Parkinson's Challenges
Image
Legendary actor Michael J. Fox has shown off his sense of humor in countless TV shows and movies over the years, and now he is talking about how his humor is carrying him through life with Parkinsons disease. Per People, at the Michael J. Fox Foundations annual A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinsons gala on Nov. 16, the Back to the Future star said he hangs on to his dark sense of humor.

He said, however, that sometimes preserving that sense of humor is hard for me, but, the five-time Emmy-award-winning actor added, I gotta keep it intact. Fox said he likes having a darker sense of humor during hard times because it can sometimes be a way to break the ice during conversations that may otherwise be hard.

'I Didn't Know What I Was Getting Into': Back to the Future Cast Reunites to Look Back on the Trilogy's Legacy
Image
The sci-fi genre has seen multiple combinations, whether taking place in space or on other planets, combining it with alien invasion, time travel, environmental disasters, or other themes. There have been multiple successful films and series in the genre and the Back to the Future trilogy is among them.

The first installment of the Back to the Future trilogy premiered in 1985, and it's become a pop culture classic since. Starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson, the sci-fi film follows Marty's time travel experiences, who mistakenly messes with the timeline of his father meeting his mother. On Nov. 3, the cast had a celebratory reunion at Rhode Island Comic Con, and Fox was met with a standing ovation, per People.

Robert Zemeckis Reveals the 1 Way He'd Make Another Back to the Future Film
Image
The Back to the Future franchise includes three feature films, and director Robert Zemeckis has long maintained that there will never be a sequel to Back to the Future Part III. However, he's still open to making another kind of film for the franchise.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Zemeckis was asked if there were any different kinds of projects he'd like to take on in the future, such as his first musical. The director said that he'd be up to make a feature film version of Back to the Future: The Musical, the hit musical inspired by the film with music by Alan Silvestri and lyrics by Glen Ballard. Zemeckis even revealed that he'd pitched this idea to Universal, but the pitch was not greenlit.

Michael J. Fox's Back to the Future 4 Chances are Very Unlikely; Robert Zemeckis Addresses Possible Sequel
Image
Robert Zemeckis has previously touched on the subject of a possible fourth Back to the Future movie, but in a new interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the legendary director appears to have given his final answer on why Back to the Future has not and will not be getting a remake or sequel.

Back to the Future is still regarded as one of the most iconic movie franchises of the 1980s, thanks in part to the brilliant on-screen chemistry of its stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. The story of Marty McFly, his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown, and their adventures in the past, present and alternate future thanks to a time machine built into the body of a DeLorean, was one that played to the strengths of Zemekis and producer Steven Spielberg, and ended up cementing itself in pop culture forever as a result.

10 Deleted Scenes That Would've Ruined The Movie
Image
Making a movie is often a delicate balancing act of choosing which scenes to include and which to cut, and some classic movies were almost ruined by a deleted scene. One scene can change everything in a movie, even if it doesn't seem pivotal to the plot. A scene can change the way that audiences perceive a character, and it can also alter the tone of the entire movieA good director will recognize when a scene needs to be cut.

There are some deleted scenes which would have improved movies, either by providing further context or simply because they're so entertaining that they should have been left in. For the most part, however, deleted scenes are cut out because they don't add much to a movie, and their absence is no great loss. There are only a few deleted scenes which are so bad that they would have severely tainted the entire movie.

10 Mistakes That Made It Into The Back To The Future Movies
Image
Uopn closer inspection, the Back to the Future trilogy is filled with little mistakes here and there. Minor continuity errors like an extra walking the same route twice don't detract from the movie's appeal. Back to the Future's time travel paradoxes create some potential plot holes, but fans have enjoyed debating these for years.

The Back to the Future trilogy is just as popular as ever, but there are a few errors which fans have spotted over the years. Most fans of the franchise agree that Back to the Future 4 would be unnecessary, but there is still enough love for the characters to make people watch the three movies on repeat. After a couple of watches, some of the franchise's mistakes become obvious.

The Back to the Future movies have their flaws, but this also contributes to their charm. The sci-fi trilogy is so popular in part because it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Is Back To The Future Considered A Brat Pack Movie?
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for the documentary Brats.

Back to the Future is not considered a Brat Pack movie, despite meeting some criteria like genre and time period. Michael J. Fox, although connected to the Brat Pack through his co-star Lea Thompson, was not officially part of the group. The term Brat Pack was specifically for actors who started in movies, which didn't apply to Michael J. Fox.

The documentary Brats brings up Back to the Future, raising questions about whether the 1985 sci-fi film is considered a Brat Pack movie. The new docuseries Brats explores the lives and careers of a group of actors in the 80s called the Brat Pack. This term was a play on the term Rat Pack from the 50s and 60s, which described actors in their early 20s who became successful in movies.

The core Brat Pack movies include eight actors who appeared in coming-of-age movies catered towards teenagers.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand
Manhattan goes nuts as thousands of Beatles fans arrive to celebrate the arrival of the Mop Tops from Liverpool. Experts at wringing manic fun from crazy chaotic farces, Bob Zemeckis and Bob Gale’s first film to hit the screen is still one of their best, due to its brilliant craft and a fresh-faced cast of relative newcomers that deliver old-fashioned enthusiasm and big-time laughs. Not since the Marx Brothers have hotel corridors and backstage shenanigans added up to so much mirth. The image of Beatlemania at full flower is dead-on accurate, and more nostalgic than a bag of Beatle wigs.

Tom Hanks Comedy 'Bachelor Party' to Become Anthology TV Series
Bachelor Party (1984)
Tom Hanks' raucous 1984 comedy classic Bachelor Party is being rebooted as a TV anthology series for ABC.

The half hour sitcom has already earned a big put pilot commitment from the network and 20th Century Fox TV. Fox also has a TV show remake of Tom Hanks' 1988 comedy Big in development, as the studio was behind both films. Bachelor Party is being produced by the Small Dog Picture Co., run by feature film director Jason Winer, and Walcott Co., run by director Max Winkler and New Girl star Jake Johnson.

The Bachelor Party anthology series was co-created by New Girl writer-producers J.J. Philbin and Josh Malmuth, and will examine the sanctity of marriage through the lens of three couples: One about to get married, one divorced, and a third just starting to fall in love. 'Back to the Future' Video: How They Shot the Opening Scene
Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future (1985)
The opening sequence of Back to The Future works perfectly in setting up Christopher Lloyd's Doc Brown and the movie itself. Director Robert Zemeckis captured the pan through Doc's inventions, which allowed for Brown to have an easy morning, in one single take. But it took a lot of coordinating to pull off such an amazing feat.

In a new interview, SFX supervisor Kevin Pike reveals how this scene was created for the classic sci-fi comedy, which took quite a few crew members. Is Robert Zemeckis a perfectionist? Watch the video and decide for yourself:

This is the first in a series of behind-the-scenes Back to The Future shorts from Jamie Benning which will be available on Vimeo. Stay tuned as more video from this seminal 80s classic is revealed in the coming weeks.

Watch Adam Scott and Paul Rudd's Bosom Buddies Reenactment Side by Side With the Original
Last night, Adult Swim aired the fourth and final installment in Adam Scott's Greatest Event in Television History series, in which he and some of his pals create frame-for-frame reenactments of the opening credits for eighties TV shows (after ten minutes of mockumentary footage about the making of the reenactment). He'd already tackled Simon & Simon, Hart to Hart, and Too Close for Comfort, so last night, he teamed with Paul Rudd to remake the lengthy, exposition-heavy opening to the Tom Hanks–Peter Scolari drag sitcom Bosom Buddies. (Gillian Jacobs takes the Donna Dixon role, Aidy Bryant does the late Wendie Jo Sperber, Parks and Rec writer Aisha Muharrar is Telma Hopkins, and Mo Collins nails Holland Taylor in just one face.) Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future (1985)
Ardent fans of the 1985 classic Back to The Future likely know that the movie was already in production with Eric Stoltz and Melora Hardin starring as Marty McFly and Jennifer Parker. When Michael J. Fox stepped in to replace Eric Stoltz, after the filmmakers felt he wasn't right for the part, Melora Hardin was also replaced by Claudia Wells, since producers felt Melora Hardin was too tall to star alongside Michael J. Fox. Filmmaker David Guy Levy has created a six-issue digital comic series entitled Back to Back to the Future, where Melora Hardin and Back to The Future writer Bob Gale travel back in time themselves, to ensure that both Eric Stoltz and Melora Hardin stay on the film. Today we have a featurette with the comic book creator explaining to the Young Storytellers Foundation why he chose to make this intriguing digital comic series, and you can also...

Hanks and Scolari Will Accept a TV Land Award for 'Bosom Buddies'
Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari in Bosom Buddies (1980)
Who besides myself has been aching for a 'Bosom Buddies' reunion? Your wish has been granted now that Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari will reunite to accept a TV Land Anniversary Award for that very sitcom, thirty years later.

Fellow cast members Donna Dixon, Thelma Hopkins and Holland Taylor will also be in attendance. Sadly, the late Wendie Jo Sperber cannot (may she rest in peace). The show will be broadcast on April 25th and will be hosted by Tim Allen.

While I won't say that 'Bosom Buddies' launched Tom Hanks' career (the movie 'Splash' gets more credit for that), it definitely showcased his comedic talent. Peter Scolari was also an excellent foil for him and even made a cameo in Hanks' directorial debut 'That Thing You Do.'

It makes you wonder what Kip and Henry are actually doing in the 'Bosom Buddies...
