The young adult sci-fi novel series "The 100" by Kass Morgan was adapted into a long-running television series of the same name in 2014. In contrast to the other coming-of-age dramas on the CW, "The 100" was a brutal post-apocalyptic story that didn't shy away from graphic violence or morally compromised main characters. Running for seven seasons until 2020, the show garnered a vocal fanbase and critical acclaim for its complex characters and storytelling. And while "The 100" may have come to an end years ago, there are plenty of similar shows for fans to check out next.

There are tons of science fiction shows out there advertised as "mind-bending" experiences, and while that might be true for many of them, it's pretty rare to find one that actually delivers on its convoluted storylines all the way through to the end.
Most people remember the big, flashy sci-fi shows like Lost and Westworld, but even more recall that both series had very divisive endings (or seasons). Then you have great shows like Archive 81 and The Oa that simply got canceled before they had the chance to wrap everything up. The following list aims to highlight the few sci-fi shows out there that stay true to their mind-bending premise through the conclusion.

Marvel Studios' Blade reboot has just been dealt another devastating blow. Mahershala Ali, who is set to star in the long-gestating superhero blockbuster as the titular hero, recently skirted around a question involving the Marvel Cinematic Universe while promoting his new movie, Jurassic World Rebirth.
During a recent appearance on Vogue's Off the Cut podcast (via ComicBook) with his Rebirth co-stars Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson, the cast was asked how many Marvel movies they had appeared in, prompting Ali to state, "Leave me out of it. That's a Scarlett question." Ali tossing the question away from him as quickly as possible implies that Marvel is still no closer to getting Blade into production, roughly six years after the project was first announced. For what it's worth, even with Blade still in development hell, Ali's answer to the question would technically be one, as he made an uncredited voice cameo...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 18 Episode 9 “Col1ateRal.”] The penultimate episode of Criminal Minds: Evolution ends with those three words that we both dread (and secretly love): “To Be Continued…” The Bau continues to lose against this season’s iteration of Voit’s (Zach Gilford) network, this time with one of the orderlies on his floor — he kills the wife of one of the men the Bau caught in Episode 7 and kidnaps his kid and leaves one of the masks behind. It’s the disciple sending a reminder of the suicide pact of the network, and it works: that man, as well as the other one they caught at the same time, are both dead. Of the UnSubs left in custody, Ronald is brain-dead, and the Bau quickly gets to work on finding Kyle (Aaron Stanford) and securing his ex-wife and daughter, Lainey (Alicia Urizar McCallum) and Ava (Audrina Miranda...

Fortunately, the Bau saves her in time. Meanwhile, they continue to work with Voit (Zach Gilford) on unlocking his memory of the network — his brain scans continue to show he’s no longer a psychopath, even after he takes on the Sicarius persona to get the message from Episode 5’s UnSub, Ronald (Winter Andrews): “Hell is empty, and all the devils are here.” During this episode, the team discovers personal connections between Voit and the UnSubs so far: Franklin killed his own family at the same age Voit killed his, Clyde was locked in a cage as a kid like Voit was in a closet, and the latest: Kyle, is going through a...

Some episodes are about the unsub. Some are about the team.
Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 Episode 6 explores how trauma weaves its way through both.
How the ties that bind us, particularly family, can be both the start of everything and the reason it all falls apart.
(Michael Yarish/Paramount+)
Let’s start with Voit. The longer he sticks around, the more he makes sense — not as a character who needs redeeming, but as one whose connections to the team are more personal than we ever realized.
His sessions with Rossi continue to fascinate because, deep down, Voit didn’t just want to beat Rossi — he admired him, studied him, and modeled himself after him.

Deadpool & Wolverine features the well-received debut of Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing his unconventional, button-pushing approach to the Multiverse Saga. However, Reynolds claims the Merc With a Mouth nearly got shut up for good in the superhero blockbuster.
Speaking on The Box Office podcast (via GamesRadar+), Reynolds reveals Marvel had seriously considered killing off Wade Wilson in Deadpool & Wolverine during development. “There’s always the thought of killing Deadpool in the last one,” Reynolds said. “Again, it’s like listening to the movie. Me, [editors] Shane Reid, Dean Zimmerman, and [director] Shawn Levy must have reworked that third act for 45 days straight."
However, featuring the classic single, "Like a Prayer," from pop icon Madonna changed the film's tone, leading to the idea getting dropped. "Finally figuring it out — I am such a needle-drop person, but I’m really working hard to embrace score. It was...

Deadpool & Wolverine features Ryan Reynolds' Merc With a Mouth at his most irreverent, button-pushing best, with seemingly nothing off limits in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. However, Reynolds reveals Disney banned him from going after two of their most revered characters during his fourth wall-breaking escapades in the film, including one surprising vintage animated icon.
During an interview on the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, Reynolds further elaborated on the now-infamous Mickey Mouse joke that Disney stopped Deadpool from making during Deadpool & Wolverine. According to the award-winning actor, Disney CEO Bob Iger liked the MCU blockbuster when he first watched it, but stated his Nsfw Mickey Mouse barb needed to be removed despite how crucial he thought it was to the film.

Deadpool may be done flying solo, but that doesn’t mean Ryan Reynolds is done with the Merc With a Mouth. In fact, Deadpool & Wolverine may have been the last standalone outing for Wade Wilson — but if Reynolds gets his way, his katana-wielding antihero could be headed back to the big screen with some mutant company.
According to new report from THR, Reynolds is in the early stages of developing a new Deadpool movie that would feature an ensemble of X-Men characters. It’s still extremely early — no pitch has been made to Marvel Studios at this time — but Reynolds is reportedly working on multiple treatments with the idea of bringing “three or four” iconic mutants into the mix. In a twist, the film wouldn’t necessarily center on Deadpool. Instead, he might play more of a supporting role to allow space for new dynamics.

In the aftermath of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds remained firm that he did not see another solo Deadpool movie in his future. That was despite the film grossing $1.338 billion, a number that validated the extraordinary amount of creative control he wields over the franchise, and which proved he was the most valuable new player in the Marvel Studios arsenal.
Now, nine months after Deadpool & Wolverine became the top-grossing R-rated movie of all time, Reynolds is quietly plotting his return to the character, but true to his word, it won’t be as the lead of a solo movie.
Reynolds is exploring ideas for a Deadpool movie that would feature X-Men characters, as well as continuing to script the Paramount comedy Boy Band after making writing a priority for much of this year before tackling other obligations, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Actor Kevin Durand reveals why he didn't reprise his role as The Blob in Deadpool & Wolverine. Durand is an accomplished character actor, having appeared in a wide variety of projects, including The Strain and Swamp Thing, with 2024 being a notable year for the actor as he appeared in both the horror film Abigail and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes as the main villain, Proximus Casear. One 2024 film Durand did not appear in, though, was Deadpool & Wolverine, even though the actor appeared alongside both Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in 2009.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were buzzing around the world on March 26, as Marvel Studios slowly (and painfully) unveiled the cast of the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday." The eagerly anticipated sequel will shift Robert Downey Jr. into villain mode, as the "Iron Man" actor is taking on the new MCU role of the villain known as Doctor Doom. Though most famous for tangling with the Fantastic Four in Marvel Comics, he's also frequently been at the center of nefarious plots that have caught the attention of the entire Avengers roster, and that's exactly what's going to happen in "Avengers: Doomsday," which will also set the table for "Avengers: Secret Wars," bringing an end to the Multiverse Saga.
While even Marvel's most loyal fans would probably agree that the Multiverse Saga has had many more missteps than the massively successful Infinity Saga that preceded it, plenty are still more than thrilled...

It is not every day that a new actor can impress the character’s original performer, but Aaron Stanford’s performance as Sneed in Star Trek: Picard reportedly made actor Armin Shimerman look at him in awe. Shimerman technically did not play Sneed but played a different Ferengi named Quark in Tng and most importantly, in Deep Space Nine.
Shimerman did not return with the rest of the Tng cast in Picard but expressed his admiration (and envy) for Stanford’s performance as the Ferengi Sneed. The performance reportedly impressed the legendary actor so much that he reevaluated his own performance in Deep Space Nine.

Deadpool & Wolverine continues to be a hot topic among Marvel Cinematic Universe fans thanks, in part, to the several X-Men franchise characters introduced and teasing the possibilities of where they could appear next. One of those characters, X-23, could return during Phase Six as star Dafne Keen hints at her MCU future.

Johnny Storm's MCU fight with Pyro in Deadpool & Wolverine is just as infuriating 5 months after it took place. Pyro and Johnny Storm are two of many Deadpool & Wolverine cameos who were once Fox-owned before Marvel reacquired the distribution rights to their respective franchises. The last time Chris Evans' Johnny Storm was seen in live-action was in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer where he and the titular team faced Galactus. Pyro, meanwhile, was last seen in X-Men: The Last Stand where he confronted and was ultimately overpowered by Iceman after ineffectually deploying his pyrokinetic powers.
After being pruned, Pyro and Johnny were among the first variants encountered by Deadpool and Wolverine in the Void. Johnny warns Deadpool and Wolverine that Pyro and his fellow mutant henchmen are approaching before attempting to face them himself, wreathing himself in flames and attempting to shoot flames at the antagonists. This, of course,...

Now available on Paramount+, Brian Helgeland's crime thriller Finestkind polarized audiences and critics upon release in December 2023. Popular Hollywood starlet Jenna Ortega stars in the film as Mabel, a petty drug dealer who meets a group of shipwrecked fishermen and drives a wedge between estranged half-brothers Tom (Ben Foster) and Charlie (Toby Wallace).
Although the film has fared better among general audiences and casual moviegoers than professional film critics, both groups cite similar reasons for its divisive detractors. Ortega fans on the fence about giving Finestkind a chance should prepare for excellent performances and a compelling family tale lost in a sea of confounding melodramatic storytelling and tonal inconsistencies.

Things were not looking good for Deadpool 3, and the film was close to not being made until Hugh Jackman stepped in, turning the project into the billion-dollar blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine.
In a new interview with Variety between Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy and Wicked director Jon M. Chu, Levy revealed that his film was nearly scrapped until one phone call from Hugh Jackman saved it. It began with a question from Chu, who asked Levy if he felt enormous pressure directing a project like Deadpool & Wolverine. Levy's answer might surprise fans.
Levy answered, “People assumed the pressure would be 'Oh, it’s my first Marvel movie, and the MCU needs a big hit.' It had been years since Endgame, and when we were prepping, Quantumania came out. I expected Marvel was going to be intense. It wasn’t.”

The TV adaptation of 12 Monkeys ended up being very different from the Bruce Willis/Brad Pitt time-travel movie it was based on — but it was still just as great. Released in 1995, Terry Gilliam’s initial film version of 12 Monkeys takes place in a post-apocalyptic future ravaged by a deadly disease. Willis plays a convict who’s sent back in time to gather information about the creation of the virus that ended up decimating the human population. When the time travel experiment goes awry, he ends up in the wrong year.
In 2015, 12 Monkeys was reimagined as an underrated TV show for Syfy. The series was created by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, and in its first season, it was run by Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ Natalie Chaidez. The movie is a loose remake of the classic 1962 French short La Jetée, about a time traveler who gets caught in a stable time loop.

Good mysteries are crammed with sneaky clues and red herrings, which makes rewatching them a delight. On a second viewing, passing comments can take new meaning, and seemingly innocuous decisions are imbued with surprising importance. While this can't be said for every television mystery show, many get better and better each time you see them.
In the most obvious sense, knowing the answer to a mystery helps the audience spot hints that have been peppered throughout a program, but that's far from the only benefit. If a mystery is engaging, then the audience spends much of their initial watch effectively playing along with the protagonist, uncertain of the veracity of what they're seeing and constantly suspicious of whom to trust. But since fans know each character's motive during a repeat viewing, they often find themselves seeing these individuals in an entirely new light.

Deadpool & Wolverine co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman may be reuniting soon in a new project. Although both stars are known for a wide variety of roles, including Jackman's Oscar-nominated turn as Jean Valjean in 2012's Les Misérables and Reynolds' roles in comedies like The Proposal, both play iconic Marvel characters on the big screen. The former has played Wolverine in the X-Men franchise since he debuted the character in 2000 while the latter has played Deadpool in what is now a trilogy of movies featuring the foul-mouthed mercenary beginning in 2016.
Although the fourth-wall-breaking Deadpool frequently made references to Wolverine, the two characters did not appear onscreen together until 2024. Superhero movies aren't generally regarded for their writing, so if a movie receives a positive reception for its script, fans know the screenplay must be truly impressive. Deadpool & Wolverine features several memorable moments that keep Marvel Cinematic Universe enthusiasts talking, including the fourth-wall-breaking humor that's made Ryan Reynolds' "Merc With a Mouth" even more beloved. However, Disney prevented one of Deadpool's button-pushing jokes from featuring, with a new report confirming what that joke was.
According to the official screenplay (shared by Disney), script pages from Deadpool & Wolverine feature some of the dialogue that didn't make the MCU blockbuster's theatrical cut. One page features the line Disney didn't sign off on for the latest Deadpool franchise installment, one which involves Wade Wilson and the House of Mouse's most notable figure, Mickey Mouse. The X-rated joke was, “F*Ck! What, we can't even afford one more X-Man? Disney is so cheap. I can barely breathe with all this Mickey Mouse c*ck in my throat.”

The release of Deadpool & Wolverine in summer 2024 saw the closing of a chapter in superhero movie history. A conscious effort to bring Ryan Reynolds' beloved Merc With a Mouth into the MCU fold, it serves as a self-aware sendoff to Marvel's pre-Disney properties in the wake of the media conglomerate's merger with 20th Century Fox, as Disney continues to tie up loose ends in its quest to control all of Marvel's many characters. With the purchasing of Fox, Disney finally took control of the X-Men franchise, whose early success essentially paved the way for the current superhero movie era that Disney continues to dominate.
Before Disney bought the Marvel brand back in 2009, the company sold the film rights to their many characters to outside studios, including Sony, who had control of Spider-Man, and Fox, who enjoyed a solid run of X-Men films for nearly two decades beginning in 2000. They...

Blake Lively didn't just cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, she had a big impact on the dramatic ending. Directed by Shawn Levy, the smash hit team-up movie (which is currently breaking records on Disney+) pitted the titular heroes against Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen), a power-hungry agent of the Time Variance Authority, and Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), the evil twin sister of Professor X. The final scene saw Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) prepare to sacrifice themselves to save their timeline.
Speaking to GamesRadar+, Shawn Levy revealed that the initial edit of the scene had very little suspense. After appearing in the first two Deadpool movies, T.J. Miller did not return for this year's Deadpool & Wolverine. This was no surprise, as Miller had previously spoken about an apparent falling out he'd had with Ryan Reynolds.
In a new interview for Sirius Xm's The Bonfire (per EW), Miller shared that he recently spoke with Reynolds. While Miller did not share any additional details about that conversation, it's a promising sign for the two actors becoming friends again after they went their separate ways after Deadpool 2. Though Miller had believed he'd never return as Weasel in any new Deadpool movies, he now says it'd be "awesome" to come back for something like Deadpool 4, but it would be up to Reynolds to give him that call.

T.J. Miller is pitching a potential return to the Deadpool universe. Miller portrayed Weasel, the best friend of Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson and owner of Sister Margaret's School for Wayward Children (the name of his bar) in the first two movies. But the comedian was noticeably absent for the third installment, Deadpool & Wolverine, which brought the titular heroes to the MCU.
The exact reason for Miller's absence is still unclear, but it's thought to have stemmed from a laundry list of problems, including sexual assault allegations (which he has denied), as well as federal charges for a phoning in a fake bomb threat (which were dropped), and long-running issues with substance abuse. Miller also previously announced that he didn't want to return, following a bad experience with Ryan Reynolds on Deadpool 2.

There have been many complex, hilarious, and violent characters in the X-Men movie franchise over the years, and some rank higher than the rest. Fox's time with the X-Men has ended. During the two decades of Fox X-Men movies, the studio managed to bring a decent chunk of characters from Marvel Comics to live-action. That was aided by the timeline of the X-Men movies.
