Joy Reid, one of the longtime anchors of MSNBC, is being canceled as the liberal network is going through a reshuffle for its programming structure. Her 7 Pm show called the ReidOut will be replaced by a panel show consisting of Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele who co-host the weekend show. The new president of MSNBC Rebecca Kutler is said to have made the reshuffle while Reid’s final episode is going to take place later this week.

Reid has been a strong critique of Donald Trump and other Republic voters. She also criticized the right-wing Latino Republican voters saying that they own everything concerning their position under Trump’s administration, indicating the immigration laws.
Reid’s background regarding being a child of immigrant parents and her position in the world of broadcast media as a Black woman has gained her both fandom and hostility.

Joy Reid’s firing from MSNBC leaked to the press before her staff was notified, forcing network chief Rebecca Kutler to call an impromptu meeting filled with “pointed questions” and “raw emotions,” media journalist Oliver Darcy reported Sunday.
According to Darcy’s Status newsletter, staffers “expressed frustration and disbelief, outraged that they had learned of their show’s fate from reports in the press rather than from leadership. Others demanded answers about the reasoning behind the cancellation of ‘The ReidOut’ and what it meant for their futures at the network.”
They got their answer: “The meeting, which lasted nearly 30 minutes, featured pointed questions, raw emotions, and a discussion of the changes ahead” — including the revelation that the entire staff would be laid off, Darcy writes. Kutler said she hoped the staff would produce the 7 p.m. rotation until the changes take effect in April.

News that Joy Reid will air her final episode of “The ReidOut” sparked reactions of disappointment and support across social media platforms Sunday afternoon.
“Everytime MSNBC has a ‘shakeup’ the Black woman solo led show is Always the first to go,” wrote Ambassador Digital Magazine editor-in-chief Musa Jackson on Threads. “Tamron Hall, Tiffany Cross, Zerlina Maxwell and now Joy Reid. Boycott MSNBC.”
Hall, who departed the network in 2017, also commented on Reid’s ousting. “Where there is Joy there is friendship and love,” she wrote on Threads. “@joyannreid is the core of a sisterhood where we see each other and rise together. Next Chapter. Love you Joy Reid @thereidout.”
I owe the television part of my career to Joy Reid, as do so many other Black voices y'all never would have heard of if not for her.

MSNBC is set to shake up its programming lineup across all dayparts in a dramatic reworking of the left-leaning cable news channel’s slate, multiple sources familiar with the changes confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.
Shows in primetime, dayside and the weekends will be impacted, with some notable cancelations, elevations, and new additions expected, one of the sources says. The moves will be an opening salvo from Rebecca Kutler, who was named MSNBC’s president earlier this month.
Among the expected changes are the cancelation of Joy Reid’s 7 p.m. show, which is likely to be replaced by a panel show featuring the co-hosts of MSNBC’s The Weekend morning program: Symone Sanders, Michael Steele and Alicia Menendez.
And in primetime, Jen Psaki is expected to secure additional hours during the week. The former White House press secretary currently hosts Inside with Jen Psaki on Mondays at 8 p.m.

Joy Reid’s show will be dropped from MSNBC’s lineup as part of a series of changes expected to be announced this week.

MSNBC is embarking on its first major steps toward building up a newsgathering operation, with plans to add a Washington bureau and domestic and international correspondents.
With MSNBC being spun off from Comcast later this year, a lingering question has been how it will deal with the fact that NBC News will no longer be a sister network. MSNBC has depended on the broadcast network’s correspondents and anchors, particularly during the daytime hours. Andrea Mitchell recently signed off from her early afternoon show, which had run since 2008, but is continuing on the NBC News side as chief Washington correspondent and chief foreign affairs correspondent.
MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler also is hiring for a head of talent, a head of newsgathering, a Washington bureau chief and a head of content strategy, according to a source familiar with the matter. Also being discussed are adding names from outlets like The Washington Post,...

Neil Cavuto held forth at 4 p.m. on Fox News Channel from a New York studio for more than a quarter century, a veteran newscaster who was never afraid to call balls and strikes. His successor, Will Cain, will lead the hour from a decidedly different venue for cable-news — Dallas, Texas — and probably take a few swings.
“The Will Cain Show” debuts Tuesday at 4 p.m. eastern with what is likely to be a decidedly different look. Fox News has said the program will carry “a signature podcast style,” and Cain acknowledges people looking for the usual cable-news trappings may see something different. “It’s not a sermon, it’s a conversation,” he says of the format, adding: “There’s not the pretense of perfection. A week after clashing with regular Morning Joe panelist Michael Steele, Joe Scarborough again got into a heated debate with a guest on Wednesday’s (January 15) episode, leading to co-host Mika Brzezinski interrupting him and throwing to a commercial break. This most recent back-and-forth involved Financial Times columnist and Morning Joe regular Ed Luce, whom Scarborough described as “a very good friend.” The pair debated President Joe Biden‘s final days in office and his cognitive capabilities, with Scarborough arguing that Biden still seemed up for the role when he interviewed him from the White House. “Did he occasionally jumble a few words or a few names? Yes,” Scarborough said, per RawStory.com. “But he corrected those as well. So after two, two and a half, three hours of it with him in the White House, going all over the White House, I did not see that.” Luce responded that...

But the downside of so much great content is that many worthy performances — which might have been nominated in any other recent year — have been overlooked by the Globes organization.

MSNBC will draw on its talent roster of hosts and contributors for a daylong event in September, MSNBC Live: Democracy 2024, seeking to capitalize on its viewer fanbase desire to see network personalities live and in person.
The daylong Sept. 7 event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music will include discussions among the hosts and a dinner and a reception, along with a screening of an MSNBC film. Ticket prices will start at $119, the network said, with audience capacity of 2,000. The plans are to keep the September event in person only — no live streaming.
Luke Russert, the creative director of MSNBC Live and moderator of the day’s events, said that “one of the things we were interested in off the bat was what could we do with this incredibly engaged audience at MSNBC.”
The event will not only provide the in-person experience but longer conversations than are possible during telecasts, Russert said.

In the pre-coverage of Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, the speech is being billed as the most important of his presidency, what with his dismal approval numbers and what is shaping up to be very difficult campaign for reelection.
Moreover, so much attention has been paid to the president’s age — at 81, he is the first octogenarian on a major party ticket — that any kind of slip up will be seized upon by his rivals.
Then again, Biden’s most memorable moment last year was an exchange with House Republicans over Social Security, showing that the president had command of the stage. That’s why it’ll be interesting to see if GOP members restrain themselves so as to not give the president the opportunity this year.

On Jan. 13, MSNBC will roll out its new take on a weekend morning show: The Weekend.
Co-hosted by Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele, the program was announced late last year as part of an overhaul of the cable channel’s weekend lineup. Originating from Washington D.C. and running from 8-10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, MSNBC is betting that The Weekend can deliver for its regular viewers what Morning Joe does on weekday mornings: A more casual, conversational look at the news, with some original reporting and interviews thrown in for good measure.

MSNBC is overhauling its weekend lineup ahead of the 2024 election season.
The biggest change is a new morning panel show, called The Weekend, which will be hosted by Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez and Michael Steele. The program will run from 8-10 a.m. and originate from Washington D.C., with Kyle Griffin as executive producer.
Sanders-Townsend and Menendez currently host weekend afternoon hours on MSNBC, but will shift to focus on the morning show.
“As we emerge from a multitude of historic events these past months, we have an opportunity to build on our accomplishments and keep the momentum going into 2024 and beyond,” MSNBC president Rashida Jones wrote to staff at the channel Thursday morning, outlining the plans.
The new schedule will also bring a wave of adjustments to the lineups on both Saturday and Sunday.
Two current MSNBC weekend hosts will be losing their hours: Mehdi Hasan, who will give up his 8 p.

MSNBC is shaking up its weekend schedule as CNN’s Saturday and Sunday offerings continue to provide strong competition.
The NBCUniversal cable-news outlet plans to a launch a new panel show, “The Weekend,” co-moderated by Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders-Townsend and Michael Steele that will air Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and will cancel a nighttime show anchored by the outspoke Mehdi Hasan. Those move will not only consolidate anchors who had been active on the weekend schedule in their own time slots, but leave room for broad change.
MSNBC’s weekend schedule has long been edged out by CNN among viewers between 25 and 54 — the audience most coveted by advertisers in news programming. CNN launched a new Saturday-morning lineup in November featuring Victor Blackwell,. Chris Wallace and Christiane Amanpour, and paced ahead of MSNBC in both that demographic and total viewers, according to recent data from Nielsen.

Lifetime isn't Lifetime without V.C. Andrews's book-to-screen adaptations!
And we know you're excited about the four-part Cutler Saga, kicking things off with the first in the series, Dawn.
We can already tell you it's pure campy fun, and the cast is no joke.
We had the opportunity to sit in on a presser with the cast of Dawn, with a special appearance by V.C. Andrews' ghost writer, Andrew Neiderman.
It was all copacetic as everyone discussed how they got into character, gushed over star Brec Bassinger's performance and work ethic, and expressed all the fun they had filming this piece.
Fortunately, TV Fanatic got the opportunity to jump on Zoom with star, Bassinger, to discuss what it was like to play the film's titular role as we follow her through her journey from adolescence through adulthood.

“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough is concerned that Kevin McCarthy’s release of Jan. 6 security footage to Tucker Carlson will lead to another riot, as the panel discussed Tuesday the Fox News host’s rewriting and downplaying of the insurrection on the Capitol.
“There you go again promoting violence and praising those committing violence against cops,” Scarborough said. “This is once again the abandonment of the blue. Once again the abandonment of police officers.”
He continued: “You can’t say ‘the Republican Party.’ This is a segment of the Republican Party, in the House especially, that are trying to grant absolution by lying about those people, those rioters that beat the hell out of police officers.”

The “Morning Joe” crew could barely keep it together Friday as they discussed Donald Trump’s “big announcement” that he is selling 99 digital trading cards bearing poorly photoshopped images of his likeness.

Friday’s segment opened with a montage of famous speeches in presidential history from Fdr, JFK and George Bush before cutting to Trump hawking his NFTs on Truth Social.

MSNBC’s election night coverage featured a bevy of the cable newser’s all-stars, including Rachel Maddow, Brian Williams, Joy Reid and Nicolle Wallace. But, as was clear to anyone watching Tuesday night, the breakout of the evening was political correspondent Steve Kornacki, master of the interactive touchscreen map that has become a staple of TV news political coverage.
Every network has someone in this role. On CNN, for instance, John King has long served as master of the interactive electoral map. But none brings to the job the Charlie Kelly “Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack” vibe that Kornacki does, with his shirt sleeves and striped necktie.
Just hours into Tuesday night’s coverage, Kornacki began trending in the United States on Twitter.

It is over a month until The Comey Rule limited series premieres on Showtime, but the still raging drama between Donald Trump and fired FBI Director James Comey was live tonight on cable news on Night 1 of the Republican National Convention.
“If you put it in a script, I’m sure it would get rejected for not being realistic enough, that the chairman of the president’s campaign is working with a Russian intelligence officer,” Comey told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, Joy Reid and Rachel Maddow of the damning report released last week by the GOP controlled Senate Intelligence Committee on Russian interference in the 2016 election. The report examined contacts between Russian sources and the Trump campaign.
“You are going to want to explain to your grandchildren someday how you stood with respect to that oath,” Comey added to the MSNBC hosts about law enforcement participating in possible voter suppression.

Fox News is apologizing for an infographic that aired on Special Report with Bret Baier on Friday that showed historic stock market reactions to racial unrest sparked by the assault or killing of African American men.
The graphic showed market gains after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., the acquittal of police officers in the Rodney King case, and the deaths of Michael Brown and George Floyd.
“The infographic used on Fox News Channel’s Special Report to illustrate market reactions to historic periods of civil unrest should have never aired on television without full context. We apologize for the insensitivity of the image and take this issue seriously.”
Baier also tweeted the network’s apology.
On Friday, Baier had turned to Fox Business correspondent Susan Li for a segment on the economy and stock market. She first gave a report on jobs and individual stocks, before turning to the topic of the graphic.

While 10 days of protests following the police-caused death of George Floyd have largely replaced Covid-19 as the news story of the moment, Bill Maher sees a direct link between the two.
Shutting down much of the country during the coronavirus pandemic, the Real Time host argued during a panel segment on the show, motivated more protesters to take to the streets. That added influx has complicated the local community response and increased the burden on police.

Bill Maher and Michael Moore got in a heated exchange Friday night on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher and eventually made a pricey on-air bet — the stakes: a trip to Hawaii — over a factual dispute. And, as it turns out, Maher will be footing the bill for Moore’s upcoming luau.
The conversation started friendly enough with Maher (known for taking people to task for their weight) complimenting the slimmed-down Oscar-winning filmmaker for looking “svelte.” The first topic they tackled was the viability of capitalism vs socialism as far as the best direction for the Democratic Party in the primaries ahead and beyond.
“I don’t really agree that we should junk capitalism,” Maher said as an opener.
“The old capitalism is gone and the new capitalism is a cruel and evil system, Bill,” Moore said. “It can’t be fixed. It’s too late. We’ve gone too far.

President Donald Trump added the Rev. Al Sharpton to his Baltimore tirades after the MSNBC personality said Trump is singing a “different tune” as president than he did as a New York businessman.
The president called Baltimore, which is in Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings’ district, “a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” and said that “no human being would want to live there.” He went on to call Cummings, who is African-American, a “racist.”
