It's a concoction of tales worthy of the Master of Mystic Arts as current Doctor Strange scribe Derek Landy is joined by two of the character's most influential writers, Roger Stern and J. Michael Straczynski, along with a host of superstar artistic talent, including Ron Lim and Ivan Fiorelli.

In addition, acclaimed creator Christian Ward makes his Marvel writing debut on a story he'll also illustrate.

Legendary Comic Book Artist Jackson "Butch" Guice Passes Away Aged 63
Image
On 1st May 2025 comic book artist and creator Jackson "Butch" Guice passed away. News of his death first broke by his brother in law James Hettel. His cause of death is unknown, but he had been dealing with health issues. Hettel posted the following on Facebook.

Not often do I put anything out there...but this is worth it. This is a cover that my brother in law, Jackson "Butch" Guice did for a Captain America run he was working on for Marvel Comics. Notice the patch on the left shoulder of the American Soldier in the front of the wedge formation. That's the Unit patch for my Home unit, 478th Combat Eng. Butch could have picked any number of high profile, well known Army units to recognize on a cover of a comic that would go world wide. He chose to give a head nod to my unit. Why?...

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Might’ve Just Dropped Another Young Avengers Hint
Image
Marvel has been slowly but steadily lining up potential members of the Young Avengers, and finally gave it a near explicit mention in “The Marvels.” Now, thanks to the latest episode of “Daredevil: Born Again,” we might have gotten a new update.

In the fifth episode of the season, now streaming on Disney+, we get a surprise appearance from Yusuf Khan (Mohan Kapoor), as the assistant manager of the bank that Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is hoping to get a loan from. As they chat, Yusuf boasts about his daughter Kamala Khan, better known to some as Ms. Marvel.

In that conversation, Yusuf mentions that Kamala isn’t in Jersey City right now because she’s off in Los Angeles with her friends. It’s a quick aside, and Yusuf even admits he doesn’t know what she’s doing out there. But fans might.

After all, there’s a...

Every Time Captain America Has Run For President In Marvel Comics
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Harrison Ford never got a chance to return as President James Marshall in an "Air Force One" sequel ("Air Force Two"?), but he will be playing another president in "Captain America: Brave New World" -- President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who was previously played by the late William Hurt in previous Marvel movies. As he did in the comics, Ross will become the Red Hulk, and it looks like he'll be battling it out with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), the new Captain America.

The President of the United States is a shady character? Truly the most outrageous idea in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet! All kidding aside, between a reactionary, kleptocratic Republican party and a feckless, enabling Democratic one, you might be wishing for a president who would truly, courageously stand up for liberty and justice for all— perhaps someone like Captain America himself.

Hobgoblin Vs Green Goblin: Who Is The Strongest Marvel Villain?
Image
If you're a Spider-Man villain, odds are you're either themed after an animal or a Goblin. The original Green Goblin, Norman Osborn, is Spider-Man's most personal and deadly enemy, whether we're talking about the comics or Willem Dafoe's unforgettable Goblin in the "Spider-Man" movies.

As should be expected with any comic that's been running for 60 years, many "Spider-Man" writers have recycled classic ideas, which has led to many different Goblin successors. Some of them have worked, like Harry Osborn stepping into his dad's shoes after a falling out with his best pal Peter Parker.

But there's one Goblin villain distinct enough to be a separate character, even if he does still exist in the Green Goblin's shadow. That is the Hobgoblin, introduced in 1983's "Amazing Spider-Man" #238 by writer Roger Stern and artist John Romita Jr. Corporate titan Roderick Kingsley comes across one of the believed-dead Green Goblin's old hideouts,...

10 Times DC Proved Doomsday Is Basically a God Much to Superman's Dismay
Image
Superman has fought many gods in his time, protecting the Earth from various cosmic threats - but few threats have been as great as Doomsday. These gods usually have specific goals, like Perpetua wanting to remake the multiverse or Darkseid seeking the Anti-Life equation. These goals can be understood and possibly reasoned with, but Doomsday has proven to be a god who only wants to destroy all life.

While Doomsday isn't technically a god, he will soon be, and he's demonstrated enough power that he's more than capable of being considered one. Between Doomsday's strength, speed, and complete inability to die, it's hard not to view the monster as a true cosmic threat, more powerful than some of the greatest gods in the DC Universe. As much as Superman may hate it, it's possible that Doomsday is on his way to becoming the darkest god that DC has ever seen so far.

Jeff Baena, Indie Director and Aubrey Plaza’s Husband, Dies at 47
Image
Jeff Baena, a screenwriter and director whose credits include the offbeat comedies “The Little Hours” and “Life After Beth,” has died. He was 47.

A spokesperson for Baena confirmed his death. His body was discovered on Friday at a Los Angeles residence, according to the L.A. County Coroner’s Office, which determined the cause of death to be suicide.

Baena was the husband of Aubrey Plaza, who starred in his films “The Little Hours,” a 2017 black comedy set in a 14th century convent, and “Life After Beth,” a zombie satire. “The Little Hours” was loosely inspired by “The Decameron,” as well as Baena’s college coursework in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Critics praised the film’s modern sensibility and irreverence, while reviewers also lauded “Life After Beth” for its idiosyncratic, often hilarious, take on a well-worn horror genre.

Baena’s other directing credits include 2022’s “Spin Me Round,” a dark comedy that stars Alison Brie,...

Quick Links Superman & Lois' Doomsday Is Tricked By Lex Luthor Superman & Lois' Doomsday Is the Best Live-Action Doomsday

The following contains spoilers from Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 9, "To Live and Die Again," now available on The CW app.

When Superman & Lois Season 3 ended with Doomsday fighting Tyler Hoechlin's Man of Steel in space, fans knew the fourth and final season would be explosive. It led to Doomsday killing Superman, only for the superhero to receive the late Sam Lane's heart and garner a second lease on life. Now, however, Superman is dying, as the human heart isn't fully compatible with his Kryptonian DNA.

Still, fans breathed a sigh of relief, thinking Lois Lane got through to Doomsday and sent him away after he remembered how he lost his family as Bizarro. Unfortunately, the penultimate episode is packed with bad news. In the present, Doomsday returns for Kent blood,...

Rumor: Marvel Studios Has Plans To Introduce The West Coast Avengers In The MCU
Image
By the time Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters in 2026, it will have been seven years since Avengers: Endgame's release. While you can deduct a couple of years for the pandemic and Hollywood strikes, that's still an awful long time to leave Earth's Mightiest Heroes on the shelf.

Heading into the last wave of storytelling for the Multiverse Saga, we anticipate seeing multiple teams, including the New Avengers (a.k.a. the Thunderbolts) and Young Avengers assemble to do battle with Doctor Doom.

Today, scooper @MyTimeToShineH brings word that, "There is a plan for the West Coast Avengers in the MCU."

This isn't the first time we've heard of possible plans for the team and them coming together is something that's been speculated about ever since T'Challa set up a base in California in 2018's Black Panther.

Having two teams of Avengers post-Secret Wars would be a fun way...

Mike Mignola Considers This Batman Comic The First Hellboy Story
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Comic artist Mike Mignola has an impressive portfolio (enough to literally fill an art gallery), but he'll be most remembered for creating comic book hero Hellboy.

Simultaneously a superhero, paranormal detective, and a monster himself, Hellboy's destiny is to end the world, but he'd much rather unwind with a smoke and drink after a hard day at work fighting demons. Hellboy and the world he inhabits is a delicious stew of everything Mignola finds compelling as an artist: horror flicks, ghost stories, and pulp fantasy. The enormous shared setting of "Hellboy" spin-off comics is like an H.P. Lovecraft story retold by Jack Kirby.

Recent documentary "Mike Mignola: Drawing Monsters" tells its subject's life story, of which Hellboy occupies a big chunk. Across extensive interviews with Mignola, his collaborators, and his fans, they agree that his vision for Hellboy crystalized with...

Hulk's Most Underrated Power Is What Actually Makes Him Unstoppable (Not His Strength)
Image
There's no denying that when it comes to physically powerful Marvel Comics characters, The Hulk is near the absolute top of the list. It is well-known that Hulk's anger allows his strength to scale infinitely, but surprisingly, this isn't the ability that makes him so unbelievably dangerous in fact, it is the character's equally limitless reserve of stamina that truly makes him a force to be reckoned with.

The Incredible Hulk Annual #7 written by Roger Stern, with art by John Byrne revealed the true secret ability of the Hulk, as it was this issue that demonstrated that it's not Hulk's strength that makes him dangerous, but instead, his stamina.

As Hulk continues to get angry, his strength will continually scale. There is no known upper limit of this strength, meaning Hulk could just get stronger, but that's only aided by the fact Hulk also never gets tired. This lesser known...

10 Best Superman Villains in DC History, Ranked
Image
Since 1938, the world of DC Comics has been led by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's iconic superhero Superman. But with any great superhero comes many great supervillains, especially for one as iconic as the Man of Steel.

Superman made his epic debut in Action Comics #1, and in the almost nine decades since his creation, he has been the de facto face of superhero comics. Like any great comic book hero, the Man of Tomorrow has an equally brilliant rogues gallery to keep him on his toes. Superman's best enemies represent inversions of himself, whether rival Kryptonians with sinister motives or cruel humans who depend on their intelligence. Considering that the Man of Steel is one of the most wholesome heroes, creating a contrast between him and his enemies is easy. From galactic tyrants to meddlesome imps, he has some of the best rogues in comics.

Even Doctor Strange Admits He's Terrified of 1 Upcoming MCU Villain

In the comics, after taking Doctor Stranges mantle as Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Doom has transcended his already legendary status to cement his legacy as Marvels greatest sorcerer, genius, and monarch. However, his current reign as Sorcerer Supreme isnt the first time Stephen Strange has acknowledged Dooms power.

In Doctor Strange #5 written by Jed McKay, with art by Pasqual Ferry Strange acknowledges the fearsome power of Victor Von Doom, establishing the Latverian dictator as one of the few forces the Marvel Universe's most iconic Sorcerer Supreme actually fears.

Trained in the mystical arts by his mother, a Romani witch, Victor fully embraced his magical potential after her death. As an adult, and the supreme ruler of Latveria, Victor Von Doom has amassed an overwhelming amount of power over his life,...

Stan Lee Was Jealous He Didn't Get To Play One Marvel Movie Character
Image
Stan Lee is remembered as the father of the Marvel Universe mostly because he was a good marketer. A natural salesman, Lee stoked the early fires of fandom and presented himself to the public as the gas giant around which all of Marvel editorial orbited.

Lee's reputation has been cemented thanks to all the cameos he made in Marvel movies before his death in 2018. Some of his cameos are blink and you'll miss it, others are more substantial. In the 2005 "Fantastic Four" film, he even appeared as a named comic character: Baxter Building mailman Willie Lumpkin. However, there was a different Marvel Comics character that Lee most wanted to play: J. Jonah Jameson, editor in chief of the Daily Bugle and a yellow thorn in Spider-Man's side.

Every Kryptonian Survivor in DC Comics (Besides Superman)
Image
For years, one of the most important parts of Superman's lore was that Superman was the last living Kryptonian; there weren't any other survivors in the entire universe. But as the DC Universe continued to expand, the idea of Superman as the last living Kryptonian started to seem like a waste of potential.

After a few decades of Superman being the last living Kryptonian, DC began introducing more survivors, both as friends and enemies to the former Last Son of Krypton. These additions included major characters such as Kara Zor-El's Supergirl and General Dru-Zod. While Kryptonians were once thought to be nearly extinct, there are more than ever now, with at least fifteen known survivors and likely many more.

Hulk vs Superman: Who Would Win In An Epic Fight?
Image
Superman's diverse powerset and strength make him a formidable opponent. Hulk's strength increases with anger, but he lacks Superman's other abilities. In past comic battles, Superman has defeated Hulk, highlighting the difference in power.

Superman and Hulk are two of the biggest powerhouses in all comics, and are among the strongest characters in their respective universes. But in a fight between the main versions of Kal-El and Bruce Banner, who would come out victorious?

Fans of both Marvel and DC may dismiss the idea of Superman fighting Hulk as the superhero equivalent of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. After all, it's hard to imagine better examples of comic characters' strength being limited only by 'what their story requires' than these mighty mascots. Still, based on their powers, previous comic battles, and fighting tendencies, there is a clear winner among the two superheroes in a hypothetical fight.

Four Fantastic Doctor Doom Comics Marvel Fans Should Read
Image
Doctor Victor Von Doom is the greatest supervillain Marvel has. Not just because of his rocking green cloak and metal armor look, either, but because of his persona. Doom is a man so grandly arrogant he thinks the world can only be saved if he rules it, yet so petty he lets a misplaced grudge against Reed Richards rule him.

Doom's vanity is so supreme he hides his scarred face behind a mask; not because he fears the judgment of others, but because he can't bear to see an imperfection when he gazes in the mirror. And yet, when he makes his grandiloquent declarations (always in the third person), it's not empty pomposity. Statements like "Doctor Doom does not fail!" delivered free of irony could be laughable, but instead Doom's willful personality convinces you.

Doom has been the villain of countless Marvel books; he famously doesn't limit himself to sparring with only his chief nemeses,...

The Marvels' Monica Rambeau Character Explained
Image
One of the best running gags in "The Marvels" involves Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and the search for a perfect superhero name. Despite a fair amount of enthusiasm from Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), whose own alter ego was not-so-subtly inspired by her obsession with Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica is seemingly uninterested in that particular hero perk. By the end of "The Marvels," she's still just Monica Rambeau — despite powering up in a major way, saving the universe from an errant wormhole, and ending up in an entirely new timeline.

Monica's arc across the Marvel Cinematic Universe is pretty different from her peers, but it largely works to her benefit. In the comics, Monica is a superhero who's burned through a number of superhero nicknames. She's been called Photon, Spectrum, and even Captain Marvel throughout her tenure on the page — and her ever-changing role in the comics seems to have...

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Needs To Bond With The Venom Symbiote
Image
The emergence of the Venom symbiote in the MCU would provide a dark suit for Spider-Man during a difficult time in his life. The introduction of Venom opens the door for other symbiote-related villains to appear in the MCU, including Carnage and Knull. Bonding with the Venom symbiote would give Tom Holland's Spider-Man a power boost and lead to intense hero-on-hero fight scenes.

Since Tom Holland joyously first took to the role of Spider-Man in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, viewers have known it's only a matter of time before the Venom symbiote rears its head. A fan favorite, Venom's full MCU debut has already been teased in Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credit scenes, resulting in even more hype.

With Spider-Man's life in tatters following the events of his last MCU outing, Holland's next appearance would be the perfect time for the...

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is adjusting after box office disappointments such as The Marvels, one property fans still rate highly is Spider-Man. A big part is due to Tom Holland's charm as a teenage Peter Parker. So much so, loyalists rank him high, sometimes even above Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Of course, Holland's Spidey offers a different flavor in the MCU compared to what the Sony movies did.

Marvel's Strongest Symbiotes, Ranked by Power
Image
Marvel’s symbiotes were first introduced in 1984 when Spider-Man wore a black costume that gave him enhanced powers. The original idea for the Black Spider-Man suit came from a fan, Randy Schueller, who described the new uniform artist Mike Zeck would draw. The powers and appearance of Spider-Man’s black suit would be tweaked and incremented by Roger Stern, Tom DeFalco, and Ron Frenz until writer David Michelinie and artist Todd McFarlane brought Venom to life in 1988, introducing the symbiotes as one of Marvel’s greatest threats.

Was Superman & Lois Season 3 Comics Accurate?
Image
Season 3 of Superman & Lois was definitely one of the show's best. It dissected Tyler Hoechlin's Man of Steel on a human level, pushing the Kents to the limit on their Smallville farm. They had to contend with Bruno Mannheim, plus the fallout of the Parasite war from the previous season.

As expected, the show did take quite a few creative liberties. Many superhero movies and comic book TV series do this to properly adapt the narrative for the medium in question. That said, Superman & Lois featured a few notable arcs that were still loyal to the source material.

Spider-Man Cosplay Is Peter Parker If He'd Mastered the Venom Symbiote
Image
Two Spider-Man cosplays imagine what Peter Parker and Ben Reilly would look like if they fully mastered the power of the Venom symbiote. The modified designs showcase a black version of Spider-Man's classic look and an accurate palette-swap of Ben Reilly's original costume. The symbiotic relationship between Peter Parker and the Venom symbiote reflects their shared flaws and inner struggles, making them a fitting match.

Spider-Man’s brief tenure with the Venom symbiote has become a key touchstone for the character, and now a cosplay imagines how both Peter Parker and his clone Ben Reilly might look if they fully mastered the symbiote’s power. With one classic look and one that’s entirely new, these cosplays show one potential future for both Spidey and the Scarlet Spider, and they look spectacular in doing so.

10 Most Important Venom Moments That Defined the Symbiote Anti-Hero
Image
Venom is one of the most recognizable characters in Marvel Comics lore. The greatest characters in Marvel have been defined by their backstories, antagonists, and their iconic moments. Now it’s time to see which moments turned the Venom symbiote from a Spider-Man villain into one of the most famous anti-heroes in all of comics.

Over the years, Venom has gone through many changes in attitude, look, and history. Chronologically, these are the 10 most important events that have brought Venom from humble beginnings to an entity that controls space and time.

Black Suit Symbiote Origins

The Venom concept was drawn up by a young fan named Randy Schueller in 1982. He won a Marvel Comics contest that saw contestants come up with a new suit for Spider-Man. The concept would be used as the basis for the black symbiote suit for Spider-Man on Battleworld during 1984’s Secret Wars event. The black...

"Rent's No Big Deal": The Avengers Already Told Fans Exactly How Much Team Members Get Paid

While some members of the Avengers are superheroes out of a sense of responsibility or guilt, others might be in it for the hefty paycheck that comes with the gig. For someone like Spider-Man, who has famously struggled with his finances throughout his entire superhero career, joining up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes might have been a way to ease the economic burden that has consistently plagued him.

Spider-Man gets an idea of how much the Avengers get paid during an encounter with She-Hulk in 1983’s Avengers #235 by Roger Stern and Bob Budiansky. After diffusing a conflict between Jennifer Walters and a driver who almost hit her, Spidey catches up with She-Hulk and learns how she’s adjusting to New York after a recent move from the West Coast. 10 Avengers Who Have Their Own Spider-Verse 'Spider Society' (Ranked by Power)
Image
Spider-Man isn't the only hero with a multiversal army. Avengers like Jessica Jones, Captain America, and Doctor Octopus also have their own teams of variants fighting together. The Tony Stark variants, known as Tony Starks Anonymous, form a support group and potentially a "Council of Starks" to rival the brainpower of the Council of Reeds. The most powerful multiverse team in the Marvel Universe is the Venomverse, comprised of symbiotes controlled by Eddie Brock who have control over space and time itself.

Spider-Man may have the most well-known collection of variants with the Spider-Verse, but what about the Avengers and their variant-based teams? Marvel’s greatest heroes have plenty to offer alone, but by uniting with their own teams of doppelgängers, things get even crazier than expected.

The Spider Society, as seen in the new Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film, is a gigantic hub world of Spider-people from everywhere in the multiverse.

Moon Knight's Forgotten Team Can Be the McU's Next Big Franchise
Image
Moon Knight's long-forgotten team the Night Shift need to make a return to Marvel Comics - and perhaps the MCU too! While perhaps one of Marvel's least-known groups, the Night Shift are a unique group of heroes, and their foremost members - Moon Knight and the Werewolf by Night - have recently increased their profile in both the comics and movies. At the same time, the Night Shift can give Marvel its own version of a successful DC property.

Solo Avengers #3's 'Tower of Shadows' was released in 1987 from Roger Stern, Bob Hall, Stan Drake, Paul Becton, and Jack Morelli. In the story, Moon Knight is tracking Cornelius Van Lunt, who has been making life miserable for the Avengers. Working on a tip from Jack Russell's Werewolf by Night, Moon Knight visits an abandoned fortress. Upon entering, he is attacked by the Shroud, an antihero who uses darkness as a weapon.

James Gunn's Favorite Superman Villains Could Redeem Shazam
Image
With the growing discussion over how Superman: Legacy will unfold, the main area of interest may just be the villain or villains of the movie. Nothing has been officially confirmed or denied, though director and DC Universe creative lead James Gunn has noted some of his favorite villains to ever vex the Man of Steel. One of these is actually connected to another DC hero's lore, and her presence may redeem said hero in question.

Shazam's use in the DC Extended Universe was somewhat contentious among audiences, namely his second movie. Thus, his next theatrical outing will likely involve a team-up. Given one villain's ties to both him and Superman, this would make a lot of sense. Here's how an appearance from Blaze could put the World's Mightiest Mortal back on the big screen.

Who Was Donald Menken in The Amazing Spider-Man 2?
Image
As a collective, the Spider-Man movies have created a massive list of enemies that never once doubled between its three franchises. That said, each of them also had at least one entry where there were more villains for Spider-Man to face. In the case of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, there were three supervillains that Peter Parker had to contend with. But that's not counting the other antagonists that appeared or were teased.

Aside from the brief appearance of Norman Osborn and the allusion to more villains like Vulture and Doc Ock on the horizon, there was a suited enemy that posed a true threat: Donald Menken. In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Menken was the right-hand man of Norman Osborn and worked hard to gain control of the company after his supposed death. But compared to his comic counterpart, Menken was the perfect enemy to exude the threat of Norman Osborn...

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse's Mayday Parker Reminds Us Of A Controversial Marvel Comics Arc
Image
At the end of "Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse," Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) went back to his home universe and reconciled with his ex Mary Jane Watson. Peter is back in the sequel, "Across The Spider-Verse" and this time he's got someone coming with him — his and Mj's daughter, Mayday Parker, who has inherited her father's spider powers.

Don't expect to see this new Spider-Girl pop up in mainstream Marvel Comics, though. In that world, Peter and Mj are currently separated. They've been on-again, off-again since 2008. What happened that year? Only the most despised Spider-Man storyline ever written, "One More Day." What happens in this infamous story? During "Civil War," Aunt May was shot and is in terminal condition. So, to save her life, Peter and Mj make a deal with Mephisto (the Marvel Universe's devil) to erase their marriage from history. Some extra salt in the wound? During "One More Day,...

DC & Marvel's Crossover Universe Made Hulk the Weakest Avenger
Image
The Hulk has been called the strongest Avenger given his unparalleled, planet-shattering strength, but within the 2099 future of Marvel and DC’s crossover universe, the Hulk would be considered the weakest Avenger (for one specific reason).

The Incredible Hulk was born after Bruce Banner was exposed to an explosion of gamma radiation, effectively mutating his body and giving his internalized alter-egos physical forms that manifest as different versions of the Hulk. From that point forward, anytime Bruce gets angry or stressed, he transforms into a giant, green, rage-filled monster. While the Hulk isn’t completely unreasonable, Bruce is usually a danger to everyone around him whenever he makes the transformation. If he loses control as the Hulk, there is almost no one alive strong enough to stop him. That is, unless the Hulk lost control in the Amalgam Universe’s 2099 future, in which case, he wouldn’t even pose enough...

Spider-Man’s DC Crossover Robbed Him of His Most Iconic Power
Image
Without question, Spider-Man is Marvel Comics’ most popular and recognizable superhero, and part of the reason for that is because of his unique powers and abilities. However, within Marvel’s ultimate crossover with DC, Spider-Man was robbed of the one power that’s easily his most iconic.

After Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider, he gained a number of abilities including the relative strength, speed, and agility of a spider, as well as the powers of wall-crawling, and the inherent knowledge of how to create super strong webbing. On top of all those powers, Spider-Man also has an ability known as spider-sense, which is essentially a precognitive ability that alerts him to danger before it happens. Spider-sense is arguably his most useful power, which is something that is highlighted every time he fights Venom, as he’s at a huge disadvantage since his spider-sense doesn’t work on Venom.
