George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso’s Death: Grammy Nominated Reggae Legend’s Music Career in Brief
Image
Fijian-Hawaii recording artist, George Brooks Veikoso, has passed away at the age of 55 years old. Popularly known as Fiji, the singer died in his home nation surrounded by his family members. He was one of the highly regarded musicians in the Hawaii music industry. He was a singer, songwriter, recording artist, producer, and mentor to upcoming singers.

George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso had humble beginnings as he appeared for $5 gigs as a singer. He sang for the church as a kid. The singer credited three major influences in his career: Isireli Racule, his uncle who worked on Elvis Presley’s Drums of the Islands; Sakiusa Bulicokocoko, his Fijian jazz star uncle; and musician Paul Stevens.

He was a member of the Fijian band Rootstrata until 1987, when he was forced to leave the country due to the coups d’état. He went to Hawaii and continued to pursue his career in music. He...

The 10 Best Friends Characters Introduced After Season 1
Image
Though the characters introduced in the first season are the most beloved, multiple Friends characters introduced after season 1 had a significant impact on the story and won over fans. The show Friends ran on NBC from 1994 to 2004, garnering a massive fanbase. Since then, it hasn’t left the pop culture zeitgeist, continuing to offer laughs two decades after the finale was released.

Friends changed a lot from season 1 to the final episode, and one way is the introduction of new characters outside the core group. While many of them are forgettable, some lovable characters became fan-favorite guest stars and recurring characters. The most memorable characters reach seasons regular status or come back in later seasons for one or two-episode arcs.

Richard Burke (Tom Selleck) Recurring Actor In Friends Season 2; Guest Actor In Seasons 3 & 6

Friends’ Most Iconic Cameo Created a Plot Hole So Big, It Makes a Legendary Joey-Chandler-Ross Scene Bizarre to Rewatch
Image
Throughout Friends’ iconic run, the NBC series has not only earned popularity through its plotline and stellar cast featuring the six friends but also got hailed for their surprising and iconic cameo. From Brad Pitt to Julia Roberts, a number of A-listers appeared in the show through cameos.

Joey, Ross, and Chandler in Friends | image: NBC

But among all, the one that stood out as the best seemed to be from the legendary star Bruce Willis. Appearing as Ross’ girlfriend’s father and Rachel’s love interest, the actor stole hearts with his guest appearance. But despite his iconic cameo, Willis’ appearance made a plot hole so severe, that it made rewatching Friends difficult for fans.

Joey, Chandler, and Ross’ love for Die Hard in Friends

Rewatching Friends over and over again must be the best feeling in the world. But in doing so you might end up learning the...

Bruce Willis’ 2nd Emmy Win Wouldn’t Have Been Possible Without Friends Star Matthew Perry That Hinged on a Bet
Image
Before Bruce Willis became a global star with the action franchise Die Hard and the horror film The Sixth Sense, he was a TV star. He rose to fame as the private detective David Addison in Moonlighting, which also featured Cybill Shepherd. The role even earned him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe.

While the actor then moved on to films after making the action blockbuster Die Hard, he returned as a guest star on Friends. Willis won his second Emmy for the role of Paul Stevens and the guest role was reportedly a result of a bet between him and his The Whole Nine Yards co-star Matthew Perry.

A New Reason to Hate Ross from ‘Friends’ Just Dropped
Image
This month marks the 30th anniversary of Friends, the beloved NBC sitcom/vast repository of ‘90s cringe. Despite the fact that this news will presumably make a lot of people feel very, very old, Warner Bros. Television is celebrating the show’s milestone by selling off a bunch of old Friends crap that’s apparently just been lying around in storage for the past three decades.

Yes, the company has partnered with Julien’s Auctions for a “live and online auction” that will give fans a chance to bid on “wardrobe items, furniture and other memorabilia from the show.”

While Marcel’s taxidermied corpse doesn’t seem to be among the items up for sale, they are getting rid of one of Rachel’s sweaters, one of Ben Geller’s bicycles, and a dress shirt worn by “Paul Stevens,” the character played by Bruce Willis. The winning bidder could always...

Bruce Willis' Friends Role Created A Major Plot Hole (But It Was Worth It)
Image
Friends had various guest stars, among them Bruce Willis. Bruce Willis' presence caused a plot hole on Friends due to his role being in contradiction with the characters' admiration for Die Hard. Willis' memorable guest appearance on Friends was a result of a bet with Matthew Perry, leading to a free appearance.

Friends had a variety of guest stars throughout its ten seasons, among them Bruce Willis, but even though his presence created a big plot hole, it was absolutely worth it. Despite coming to an end in 2004, Friends continues to be very popular and its fanbase has grown more in recent years thanks to the shows arrival to streaming. Friends has further established itself as one of the greatest TV shows ever, and recent revisitings have highlighted its strengths, flaws, and made many of its guest appearances a lot more special.

14 Minor Characters In Friends Who Stole The Show
Image
Friends was known for featuring A-list guest stars who often stole the show with their memorable performances. Jon Favreau (Pete Becker), Winona Ryder (Melissa Warburton), Brad Pitt (Will Colbert), and Bruce Willis (Paul Stevens) all delivered standout performances in their respective episodes. Lisa Kudrow's portrayal of Phoebe's twin sister Ursula, James Michael Taylor's deadpan portrayal of Gunther, and Maggie Wheeler's lovable character Janice were also fan favorites and added comedic value to the show.

The iconic cast of Friends occasionally shared the screen with recurring characters or guest stars who absolutely stole the show. Friends made a habit of recruiting various A-listers to have one wild adventure with the group or to play a friend, family member, or love interest over the course of a longer arc. On more than one occasion, humor was derived from references to the guest actor's personal life and career.

Although the...

12 Times Actors Appeared On A Show Despite Being Established In-Universe
Image
Celebrity paradoxes in TV shows can be distracting and break the fabric of the show's universe, potentially creating plot holes and inconsistencies. Even the greatest TV shows are not exempt from this phenomenon, as established celebrities are often unrecognized when they later appear as a separate character. Examples of celebrity paradoxes include Carrie Fisher in 30 Rock, P Diddy in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Bruce Willis in Friends, where their previous works and references to them were made, but they were not recognized within the show.

There are countless examples of actors being established as existing within a TV show's narrative, only for the stars to later join the series' cast as a separate character. Television shows have indulged in this type of celebrity paradox for decades, with examples continuing to grow as a celebrity's presence becomes narratively illogical. Not only do the appearances of established celebrities as...

10 youngest Emmy winners of Best Comedy Guest Actor: Three triumphed as ‘SNL’ hosts
Image
Over two decades after taking home his second Primetime Emmy, Bruce Willis remains the only person to pull off victories in both the Best Drama Actor and Best Comedy Guest Actor categories. He first triumphed as the star of “Moonlighting” in 1987 and was then honored for appearing in the sixth season of “Friends” in 2000. On the latter show, he played Paul Stevens, the father of a young woman romantically involved with main character Ross Geller. Over the course of three episodes, Paul embarks on a relationship of his own with central ensemble member Rachel Green that lasts until his odd behavior becomes too much to bear.

Although he was 45 at the time of his “Friends” win and thus classifiable as middle-aged, Willis was initially the third youngest champion in the history of his guest category. More than 20 years later, he has now fallen to 10th place on the list. Of...

Friends: 10 Reasons Joey & Janine Were Doomed From The Start
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer in Friends (1994)
One of the least-loved relationships on Friends has to be Janine and Joey, who had a brief connection in season six. Played by supermodel Elle Macpherson, this character existed in large part as just a really cool celebrity cameo. However, she was also a semi-legitimate love interest for Joey, and his temporary roommate after Chandler moved out.

Related: Himym Meets Friends: 5 Friendships That Would Work (& 5 That Wouldn't)

Fans knew that this wasn't going to become a long-term relationship in part because of the cameo aspect of it - Friends wasn't going to suddenly bring Elle Macpherson on as a recurring cast member. But even if Janine was played by someone who could have joined the show full-time, there were obvious signs that she and Joey were just not meant to be...

Exodus
"This land is mine, God made this land for me." Those are just song lyrics, while Otto Preminger's politically daring 70mm mega-production is a lot more subtle in its presentation of the 'Palestinian problem' that led to the formation of the State of Israel. It's a bit ponderous, but Dalton Trumbo's screenplay avoids the pitfalls -- 56 years later, the story is still relevant. The Mask (Eyes of Hell) | Blu-ray Review
After a restored print played for the first time at the 2015 Toronto Film Festival, Kino Lorber presents Julian Roffman’s 1961 vintage horror film The Mask on 3D Blu-ray. Collectors of vintage 3D technology and classic horror cinema should take note, especially for the film’s expressive, nightmarish sequences. Hailed as ‘psychedlic’ and repackaged as a psychotronic classic, the title is a fun throwback to event cinema.

Owning several notable distinctions, not only was it the first Canadian film widely distributed in the United States, but it was also the only 3D feature from the country to play here, as well as the Canada’s first foray into the genre. It’s the last of only two titles directed by Roffman, who would eventually produce a small handful of films (including the obscure early 70s delight The Pyx).

The Toronto International Film Festival’s sole surviving 35mm print was deemed too brittle after an initial screening,...

Circus of the Face: A Delectable Restoration of Obscure Canadian Horror Film

The 1961 horror film The Mask owns several notable distinctions. Though noticeably spare on plot, Roffman’s film does feature a delightful trio of...

New Projects from Abu-Assad, Terrence Davies, Kevin Macdonald at the Iff
  • Lots of glossy business cards will be exchanged during the 4th edition of International Financing Forum (Iff) (which takes place during Tiff). In what I imagine is like a speed dating between producers looking for coin and those looking to finance the next hot film project. There are a slew of names/projects from established filmmakers (Hany Abu-Assad, Terrence Davies and Kevin Macdonald) and some first-time directors among the 43 listed below that have caught over attention. Hany Abu-Assad is taking on what I imagine would be a controversial biopic - attaching himself to Arafat with his Paradise Now producer, Roman Paul. Paul produced Waltz with Bashir, and the upcoming (we'll be talking about this one in 2010), Womb. I'd be surprised if Tony Grisoni took a day off in the past 24 months, he has penned a truck load of projects and would embark on his feature filmmaking debut with Kingsland.
