Dave Franco Reveals He Wasn't Ready For Twilight's Edward Cullen Role
Image
When Twilight hit theaters in 2008, it quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling novels, Twilight'ssubsequent five-film arc follows the love story between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson)as they face various challenges, including Bella's mortality and the looming vampire threat of the Volturi facing the Cullen family.

The Twilight Saga earned over $3.3 billion at the global box office, yet its reception was divisive. While fans heavily praised the film, as evident by the first outing's 72% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, critics gave generally negative reviews, with Twilight scoring a 48% Tomatometer. Furthermore, some actors like Robert Pattinson have shunned the role despite its commercial success.

That being said, the chemistry between Edward and Bella is the emotional core of the Twilight movies, helping drive the vampire franchise to global success. In fact, Pattinson's portrayal of Edward became so iconic that it's hard to...

Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch in Monsters (2022)
Monster season 4 casts Rebecca Hall, Vicky Krieps, and Ella Beatty in the story of Lizzie Borden
Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch in Monsters (2022)
The ten-episode series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (read our review Here) was such a huge success for the Netflix streaming service back in 2022 that Netflix ordered two more seasons of the show from its creators, Ian Brennan and American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story was released less than a year ago, and has had quite an impact on the real lives of the title characters. Right before that season premiered last September, it was announced that Sons of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam had signed on to play murderer and graverobber Ed Gein in Monster season 3 (which is apparently called The Original Monster). Although that season doesn’t have a premiere date, it’s expected to be streaming by the end of the year. Now, Variety reports that Monster season 4, which is going to tell the story of Lizzie Borden, is already casting!

The 12 Best Lindsay Lohan Movies, Ranked
Image
In the 2000s, millennials crowned auburn-haired Lindsay Lohan as the teen idol of the era. Unfortunately, like many child stars, Lohan had a difficult time in the industry and took a decade-long break in the 2010s. Still, her films from the late 1990s and mid-2000s remain generational touchstones and comedy classics.

Lohan's more grown-up work is less popular, though there are a few gems in her filmography that she deserves more credit for. More recently, Lohan launched something of a comeback with her series of popular Netflix films, putting her name back on the proverbial marquee once more.

Films aimed at kids and teens aren't always given serious consideration, and Lohan hasn't had the easiest time pleasing critics and keeping the press on her side. In fact, it's high time we evaluate Lohan's work with clear eyes and enough hindsight to recognize her talent and charisma for what it is.

Harris Dickinson’s Directing Debut ‘Urchin’ Acquired by 1-2 Special — It’s One of Cannes 2025’s Very Best Films
Image
Cannes 2025 festival-goers put their stamp of approval of Harris Dickinson the filmmaker, with his directing debut “Urchin” winning the Fipresci prize out of Un Certain Regard. What can’t the “Babygirl” and “Triangle of Sadness” and “Beach Rats” and “The Iron Claw” actor and future John Lennon star do?

A favorite of IndieWire’s Screen Talk podcast and Chief Film Critic David Ehrlich, “Urchin” seemed primed for a major scoop out of Cannes alongside other actor-turned-filmmakers.

Alas, it took two months since the festival’s end for rising distribution outfit 1-2 Special to step in and buy Dickinson’s film for North American distribution. Starring Frank Dillane as an unhoused, drug-chasing drifter in London, and in the vein of Mike Leigh’s “Naked” in terms of toxic emotional candor, “Urchin” follows Mike (Dillane) as he tumbles through a cycle of addiction, self-destruction, and London’s correctional system. In addition to the Fipresci prize,...

After dissecting every power play, snarky line, and behind-the-scenes meltdown from The Studio on Apple TV+, here’s what I have to say: Season 2 needs a fresh roster of set-shaking, ground-breaking, unexpected cameos. Seth Rogen needs to think bigger for season 2, otherwise the show risks redundancy.

He needs to bring in electric clashes and scandalous synergy between characters, old and new, if he wants this season to surpass the success of season one. The audience needs to be wowed with every face they see in season 2. It can’t just be about roping in famous people; we know you have connections. We need to see magic! Here is a list of 7 cameos I would love to see in season 2, and you’re going to love it!

Jodie Foster Knew Kristen Stewart Was A Star In the Making In ‘Panic Room’
Jodie Foster
Image Source: Sony Pictures Jodie Foster? Yeah, she’s definitely left her mark on thrillers over her long, legendary career. Think Taxi Driver’s intense depths or the terrifying brilliance of The Silence of the Lambs — high-stakes suspense is totally her comfort zone. So it wasn’t much of a surprise when she captivated audiences back in 2002 in David Fincher’s claustrophobic thriller, Panic Room. This film throws you straight into a nightmare home invasion. A newly divorced mom and her young daughter, who has diabetes, seek refuge inside their New York brownstone’s state-of-the-art safe room. But sanctuary turns to entrapment when three intruders break in, convinced there’s a fortune hidden within the walls. The result? An intense, pulse-pounding game of survival that earned the film a solid $191 million globally. Here’s a detail many might not immediately remember: the young actress playing Foster’s daughter delivered a...

Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart Made a Gutsy Move but It Didn’t Work Out: What Went Wrong With ‘Equals’?
Image
Nicholas Hoult starred in Drake Doremus’ Equals, showcasing a dystopian society where neither crime nor human emotions exist. Despite the genetically modified humans living in a meticulously crafted society, Nicholas Hoult’s Silas comes across Kristen Stewart‘s Nia, and the two grow attached to each other. Classic case of forbidden romance!

Equals also stars Guy Pearce and Jacki Weaver, along with others. Despite a great cast and an interesting storyline, the film failed to hit the mark. It received mixed to negative reviews from critics, earning a 36% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience wasn’t a fan either, giving Equals an approval rating of a mere 43%.

According to the critical consensus, the aesthetics of the film weren’t enough to “make up for its plodding pace and aimlessly derivative story.” Clearly, one of the biggest challenges Equals faced lies in the movie’s pacing. Doremus is known for intimate,...

The Best Twilight Movie Director Reveals Repulsive Sexism Despite $400M Box-Office Domination
Image
The Twilight franchise dominated pop culture during the late 2000s, largely due to the commercial success of the first installment to adapt Stephenie Meyer’s fantasy romance saga. The 2008 adaptation, starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, was directed by Catherine Hardwicke.

However, Hardwicke admitted that despite the movie’s commercial success, Hollywood’s inherent sexism sidelined her.

They’re not going to give you the next job and let you do something great.

Hardwicke, who did not return to helm the remaining four installments in the franchise, made the above statement during an interview with The Guardian. She highlighted how the industry treats female directors differently from male directors despite delivering a commercially successful movie, and here is what Hardwicke had to say.

'Twilight' Director Says Studio Gave Her a Cupcake After Film's Success
Image
Twilighttook a huge bite out of the box office when it was released in 2008, pulling in a bloodsucking $70.6 million opening haul in the United States and Canada, while also setting a new record at the time for the biggest opening weekend for a female-directed film. Catherine Hardwicke helmed the vampire romance, based on the 2005 novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer, and its commercial success paved the way for the saga to become a multi-billion-dollar juggernaut — but the studio didn't part with too much money for her gift.

During an interview with The Guardian, the Twilight filmmaker recalled receiving an insultingly small gift from the film distributor, Summit Entertainment, which was perhaps made worse by the fact that she knew successful male directors in the same position as her might be gifted "a car, or a three-picture deal, or [getting] to do basically whatever you want" after a similar triumph.

Ryan Murphy isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The creator behind Monster — Netflix’s hit true crime series, has locked in the subject of Season 4, and it’s going to shake things up in a big way. According to Variety, the next chapter will tell the story of Lizzie Borden, a woman accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in 1892. But unlike the men featured in the show so far, Borden was found not guilty.

The first season of Monster shocked audiences with the horrifying case of Jeffrey Dahmer, with Evan Peters playing the infamous serial killer. Then, Season 2 focused on the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of killing their wealthy parents. Now, fans are still waiting for Season 3, which will center on Ed Gein, also known as The Butcher of Plainfield. ‘Twilight’ Director Says Studio Gave Her a “Mini Cupcake” After Film’s Box Office Success

Catherine Hardwicke is getting candid about the difference in how male and female directors are treated in Hollywood.

During a recent interview with The Guardian, the Twilight filmmaker recalled the gift she received from the film’s producers, Summit Entertainment, following the Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson-led movie’s surprise triumph at the box office. While Summit hoped it would gross at least $30 million during its run, Twilight went on to earn $408.4 million worldwide.

However, she said male directors might be gifted “a car, or a three-picture deal, or [getting] to do basically whatever you want” following a successful movie.

Hardwicke admitted that she realized the hard truths behind filmmaking quite quickly in her career. “No, people...

Now, Variety hears that Monster season 4 is already in the works, even though no official season 4 renewal has been announced,...

‘Monster’ Season 4 About Lizzie Borden In Works At Netflix From Ryan Murphy & Ian Brennan
Image
Ahead of the premiere of Monster Season 3, Netflix is already prepping a fourth installment of the true-crime franchise from creators/executive producers Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, sources confirm to Deadline. It will tell the story of Lizzie Borden, who was tried and acquitted of the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Casting for the lead role is currently underway, with the new season eying a fall start of production, sources said. Reps for Netflix declined comment.

The Borden murders and trial received extensive nationwide publicity in the U.S. and have remained part of American popular culture in the decades since. Lizzie Borden has been depicted in numerous film, television and theater adaptations, most recently in Lifetime’s The Lizzie Borden Chronicles starring Christina Ricci, and the 2018 feature film Lizzie starring Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart.

That was also the case with the second Monster installment,...

Netflix Confirms the Future of Ryan Murphy's 'Monsters' Ahead of Season 3
Image
Ryan Murphy has found his latest muse for what will become the fourth season of his dramatized true-crime series, Monster, but, this time, he’s going a different route. In the first two seasons, he told the stories of Jeffrey Dahmer and Lyle and Erik Menendez, respectively, while the upcoming third installment will follow the life and crimes committed by Ed Gein. But, Season 4 is set to put its focus on Lizzie Borden, who, unlike the men she’s now forced to keep company with, was acquitted of the brutal murders of her father and stepmother in 1892. According to Variety, the team is on track to pick up cameras and get to work in the fall, but Netflix has yet to announce the title’s renewal, so we’ll need to wait for specifics. Meanwhile, we’re still sitting at the edge of our seats waiting for the streamer to...

‘Monster’ Season 4 in the Works at Netflix, Focused on Lizzie Borden
Image
“Monster” Season 3 has yet to set a premiere date, but Season 4 of the hit Netflix anthology series is already in the works.

Variety has learned from sources that a fourth season focused on the Lizzie Borden case is currently prepping for a potential fall shoot, though no official Season 4 renewal has been announced at this time.

Reps for Netflix and Murphy declined to comment.

Borden lived in Massachusetts in the late 1800s. In 1892, she was accused of murdering both her father and her stepmother with an axe at their shared home. Borden was eventually acquitted of the crimes, but the brutal nature of the murders attracted nationwide attention and contributed to Borden’s place in popular culture.

The case has been the subject of numerous adaptations across a wide variety of media. Recent examples include “The Lizzie Borden Chronicles” TV series starring Christina Ricci and the film “Lizzie” starring Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart.

The 15 Best Movies Like Superbad
Image
Greg Mottola's "Superbad" did R-rated comedy super good, becoming an instant classic on release in 2007. The insanely-quotable, super-raunchy follows the story of Evan (Michael Cera) and Seth (Jonah Hill), two high school seniors who are looking forward to one wild night of partying before they graduate. They're sex-obsessed, eager to drink as much as possible, and desperate to prove that they're as cool as their peers ... even though, c'mon, it's high school. No one's cool.

"Superbad" catapulted its leads to stardom, but the behind-the-scenes story of the movie was just as impactful on the comedy scene of that decade. In addition to being produced by Judd Apatow, "Superbad" was written by Seth Rogen and his childhood friend Evan Goldberg, and their unmistakable comedic sensibility would go on to influence the whole genre.

If you're looking for other movies like "Superbad," you could do a whole lot worse than seeing...

"I Can't Read It:" Why One Twilight Actor Won't Read Stephenie Meyer's Most Recent Book
Image
Among the other interesting opportunities at the ongoing Denver Fan Expo was the chance to speak to The Twilight Saga star Peter Facinelli. He answered many eager questions fans still have about the experience of shooting the films and the upcoming show. When asked if he had read the new book in the series, he said:

“I can't read it. Because it's like Edward's thoughts, you know? And I feel like it would be like Carlisle going through his diary.! It just feels so invasive to me. And as a dad, I don't know what he's thinking of me.”

Peter Facinelli, who plays Carlisle Cullen in the franchise, was in attendance on Thursday, alongside co-star Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in The Twilight Saga. During the weekend, they will be joined by other co-stars, Jackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper Hale in the films, and Ashley Greene, who plays the...

When Jennifer Lawrence Was Against The Hunger Games & Almost Said No—Here’s Why
Image
Jennifer Lawrence In The Hunger Games ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Jennifer Lawrence nearly walked away from the role that would define her career, and it wasn’t because she didn’t love The Hunger Games. It was because she loved it too much. Back when the adaptation was first announced, Jennifer Lawrence was already a huge fan of Suzanne Collins’ books. But instead of getting excited, she immediately rolled her eyes at the thought of a Hollywood version. She expected another “great book ruined by a franchise” moment and wasn’t shy about her doubts going into her first meeting. In fact, she admitted that she only met the director to tell him why adapting the novels was a mistake (via Cosmopolitan).

She said, “I’d read all three books and loved them… In my mind, I went into the initial meeting with the director just to tell him off. Everything...

Warner Bros. Loses Akira Live-Action Movie Rights After 20+ Years of Failed Attempts
Katsuhiro Ôtomo
Warner Bros. has lost the live-action movie rights to Akira after more than two decades of stalled development.

The rights have officially reverted to Kodansha, the Japanese publisher behind the original manga created by Katsuhiro Otomo in 1982, according to an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter.

Kodansha is now reportedly preparing to relaunch the project, with producers and talent already lining up to pitch new versions to studios and streaming platforms.

Akira Creator Reveals He Is Working On A New Manga

Warner Bros. first acquired the live-action rights to Akira in 2002, envisioning a Hollywood adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s postapocalyptic cyberpunk manga.

The studio initially tapped Blade director Stephen Norrington, followed by a long string of creatives that included Gary Whitta, Mark Fergus, Steve Kloves, the Hughes brothers, and Jaume Collet-Sera.

Over the years, the project was derailed by creative differences, budget concerns, and backlash over casting choices.

Kristen Stewart Debuted In An Awful Prequel To A Live-Action Adaptation Of A Classic Cartoon
Image
Every career has to start somewhere, but it's hard to imagine anyone ending up with a truly brilliant career when their first film appearance was in the truly terrible 2000 comedy prequel "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas." Somehow, Brian Levant's critically panned 1994 film adaptation of the 1960s animated series "The Flintstones" was a box office hit for Universal, and it ended up making a prequel that came out six years later. Not only was it an unwanted, bizarre film, but it didn't even have the stars from the original, as apparently John Goodman, who played Fred Flintstone, begged producer Stephen Spielberg to keep him out of any future "Flintstones" films.

Starring Mark Addy as Fred Flintstone and Stephen Baldwin as Barney Rubble (replacing Rick Moranis), "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas" tells the story of Fred and Barney meeting and falling in love with their future wives, Wilma (Kristen Johnston...

“The acting gives Kristen Stewart…”: Taylor Sheridan Didn’t Learn a Key Lesson From ‘Twilight’ and It Ruined a Yellowstone Character
Image
Known for his contemporary Western settings and themes, writer/director Taylor Sheridan is recognized for films and shows such as Wind River, Sicario, and Yellowstone.

However, we all know what went wrong with Yellowstone. The mighty show that was once the peak of television shows came crashing down after flaws in the story, lack of character depth, and some two-dimensional dialogues written by Taylor Sheridan fell flat on an audience who had evolved from the conspiracy theories.

This has also led to intense scrutiny from fans, who compared one of the Yellowstone characters to Twilight’s lead, Bella Swan, a contentious character in her own right.

Taylor Sheridan’s bad writing made for Kristen Stewart’s Twilight redemption!

Season 3, episode 1 of Yellowstone introduced us to Monica Dutton, who thought it would be a good idea to educate the youth who were on their phones, talking about the end of the world,...

‘Akira’ Live-Action Film Rights At Warner Bros Lapse; Revert Back To Publisher
Image
The possibility of a live-action take of the 1988 anime movie Akira from Warner Bros is no longer, as Deadline has confirmed that the right have lapsed, now reverted back to manga publisher Kodansha.

The movie directed by Katsuhiro Ôtomo follows teenage biker gang member who turns into a rampaging psychic psychopath after a secret military project endangers Neo-Tokyo. The protag learns he has telekinetic abilities which are dangerous to the word. His best friend is the only guy who can stop him.

The Burbank, CA lot has had the movie rights since 2002 with directors like Stephen Norrington, Albert Hughes, Jaume Collet-Serra and Taika Waititi circling. Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian way was circling and at one point, Akira, had an $18.5M California Tax credit. David Cronenberg
Criterion Channel to host streaming release of The Shrouds beginning July 8th
David Cronenberg
It may have originally been conceived as a series for Netflix, but David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds won’t be headed to that streamer anytime soon, as The Criterion Channel will hold streaming rights to the director’s most recent film.

Considering Criterion has a long history with David Cronenberg, it might be no surprise that they will host The Shrouds. This is especially so as Janus Films — who has a long partnership with The Criterion Collection — had distribution rights for The Shrouds alongside Sideshow. Once The Shrouds hits The Criterion Channel on July 8th (with a special 8 p.m. premiere time), it will sit alongside classics like Scanners, The Brood and Dead Ringers, as well as lesser-known works like his first two features, Stereo and Crimes of the Future.

Here is The Criterion Channel’s official write-up for The Shrouds: “Long fascinated by the ways that technology is transforming our bodies and minds,...

Squid Game Season 3's Creepiest New Character Gives Twilight Vibes
Image
Don't hide or seek if you haven't watched through episode 5, season 3 of "Squid Game" — spoilers lie ahead! You've been warned!

We all knew this was coming. After finding out that Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri), also known as Player 222 in the titular games, was pregnant back in season 2, audiences likely knew this would be a huge plot point in season 3. True to form, the series gave audiences a huge shock when, in the season's third episode, Jun-hee gives birth in the middle of a dangerous game, during which players are split into two teams to play the children's game of hide and seek. The twist? Players in red vests are the "seekers," and they're carrying knives; if they don't kill at least one fellow player, they'll be eliminated from the game entirely. The ones in blue vests have to "hide" by escaping through different doors in the massive set, and the...

Catherine Hardwicke Praises Heath Ledger, Talks ‘Twilight’ at Mediterrane Film Festival Masterclass
Image
Steps away from set pieces featured in the Gladiator franchise inside Malta’s historic Fort Ricasoli, veteran filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke delivered an epic two-hour-plus masterclass fitting of its backdrop during the Mediterrane Film Festival on Wednesday morning.

Hardwicke, who is also currently serving on the island fest’s jury, covered nearly all aspects of the craft for the “Fix It in Prep” session which was moderated by The Hollywood Reporter. She recalled how she made so many of the films on her resume like the gritty drama Thirteen, the skateboarding pic Lords of Dogtown, the beloved teen vampire classic Twilight, the friendship tearjerker Miss You Already, the genre series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and more.

Twilight lore figured prominently in the discussion, much of which has been documented in anniversary interviews and earlier versions of Hardwicke’s presentation, including how star Robert Pattinson hand picked her line “Hold on tight,...
