The Challenge: All Stars Is Losing Its Edge — Here’s How to Fix It
Image
The Challenge: All Stars started with a fantastic idea, but the Og concept seriously fell off with the recent All Stars Rivals.

While the throwback concept brought intriguing pairings and a few returning OGs that made it watchable, it lost the luster that arrived with the first several seasons.

And when that fifth season arrived, The Challenge: All Stars aired on a different network, and producers changed what initially worked, seemingly frustrating many fans.

(MTV/Screenshot)

We received some OGs and then cast members from recent seasons of The Challenge, arriving from CBS or other networks’ reality TV shows.

However, I believe All Stars can keep going and it’s apparent that the man who brought this concept to life, The Godfather Mark Long, is doing his darndest to keep things moving in the right direction.

The Challenge’s Steve Meinke shares whether he plans to return after All Stars Rivals win

The Challenge: All Stars Rivals brought a variety of individuals back to the competition, including former Road Rules castmates Katie Cooley, Adam Larson, and Steve Meinke.

Due to the theme and format, Adam and Steve were partners, following Steve’s sly move to steal Adam’s Star in All Stars 4.

However, the duo co-existed fine on Rivals, endured repeatedly going into eliminations, and ultimately won the season’s grand prize.

They even correctly determined each other’s answer to host Tj Lavin’s twist about splitting or keeping the $250,000 prize.

Following the season finale on MTV, one cast member announced retirement from The Challenge.

Steve, 48, also revealed whether or not he feels he’ll compete again or ride off into the sunset after the big win.

‘The Challenge All Stars’ winner Steve Meinke on redemption, rivalries, and being labeled the ‘boring guy’
Image
The Challenge All Stars: Rivals came to a dramatic end on Wednesday when Adam Larson and Steve Meinke edged out Da'Vonne Rogers and Shane Landrum by just one star to win the $250,000 grand prize. Frank Fox and Sam McGinn finished in third place, with Melissa Reeves and Nicole Zanatta in fourth.

For Steve, winning The Challenge was redemption after he "screwed the pooch" in All Stars 4 by misreading instructions and allowing Laurel Stucky to beat him to the finish line. "It was absolutely embarrassing," he tells Gold Derby (see the video interview above). "If you know me, it's the most Steve way to lose something like this. Not against someone else, but myself."

It was a lesson learned for the 48-year-old Challenge vet. This season, Steve says he was hyperaware of the rules and listened to host Tj Lavin's directions with extreme concentration — even if it made him "look constipated.

The Challenge’s Mark Long addresses All Stars spin-off’s potential cancellation after insider’s update
Image
Ahead of MTV airing the finale for The Challenge: All Stars Rivals, Mark Long addressed the possible fate of the spin-off series.

Long, who initially debuted on MTV’s Road Rules franchise, became strongly associated with the cause to bring All Stars to life, and his vision ultimately worked.

The initial seasons featured the return of many of the MTV OGs that fans were interested in seeing again, including Trishelle Cannatella, Teck “Money” Holmes, Syrus Yarbrough, Ruthie Alcaide, Beth Stolarczyk, and Katie Cooley.

Additional seasons brought more returning characters, including Tina Barta, Cohutta Grindstaff, Casey Cooper, and Tyler Duckworth.

However, four years and five seasons later, the spin-off’s future seems unclear, as many fans have had less-than-stellar reactions to the latest installment.

Some have criticized the spin-off’s move from Paramount+ to MTV for the first time in five seasons. Others have blamed the cast and lack of entertainment.

‘The Challenge All Stars: Rivals’: Amber reacts to ‘everyone turning on me’ and defends her and Faysal’s decision to target weak teams
Image
Amber Borzotra and Faysal "Fessy" Shafaat were the latest pair eliminated from The Challenge All Stars: Rivals on Wednesday night. After being voted into elimination, the former adversaries were taken out by Nany Gonzalez and Turbo Camkiran. "We didn't have [enough] allies in the game to have the numbers," Amber tells Gold Derby. "There was a lot going on I didn't know about."

In this competitive season that pairs players with an arch nemesis from the past, some duos like Amber and Fessy were able to quickly build a bridge to friendship. "I really did want to win. I wanted to win for Fessy — just to prove we could have won a final together ... I was hungry this season. My biggest reason was my daughter and my second biggest reason was showing Fessy he should have stuck with me the first time."

Jersey Shore star Vinny Guadagnino recalls his ‘epic’ Kobe Bryant encounter
Vinny Guadagnino in Jersey Shore (2009)
Vinny Guadagnino had what he described as a “crazy” experience with the late, great basketball legend Kobe Bryant during and after one of his games.

The Jersey Shore star recently stopped by the Roommates Show podcast, which features former Villanova Wildcats and current New York Knicks players Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.

While there, Vinny spoke about being courtside for a Knicks versus Lakers game when one of the Jersey Shore seasons was airing.

The MTV star said he was “standing there doing nothing,” and Kobe started motioning to him during an interview.

Vinny said at first, he was unsure if the multi-time NBA All-Star and champion meant him.

“He’s like, ‘You, let’s go,'” Vinny said, explaining Kobe motioned for him specifically to come over to meet him.

The Challenge’s Sylvia Elsrode shares update after All Stars Rivals fight with castmate: ‘We’re just different’
T.J. Lavin
Sylvia Elsrode showed up for The Challenge: All Stars 5, where host Tj Lavin soon informed the cast members it was a Rivals season.

Due to that theme, Sylvia got paired with her feuding foe KellyAnne Judd from their previous All-Stars season.

It was clear early on that even though they needed to team up and work together to stay out of eliminations and get to the final, that was an issue.

Within just a few episodes, Sylvia and KellyAnne got into a heated argument, with castmates needing to separate them.

KellyAnne and her partner also had a blowup during a daily challenge involving heights, and ultimately, the duo got eliminated from the show.

Following their heated rivalry and brief team-up for All Stars 5, Sylvia recently gave a post-elimination update about her and KellyAnne’s situation.

The Challenge stars Cory Wharton and Paulie Calafiore slam All Stars 5 cast after poor performance
Image
The newest season of The Challenge: All Stars features the most unique cast so far, but some of their former castmates aren’t too impressed.

Recent remarks from Cory Wharton and Paulie Calafiore blasted many of the All Stars Rivals cast members after seeing them in action- or their inaction.

As of this writing, only two episodes of All Stars 5 have aired on MTV. Episode 2 featured a daily challenge involving heights.

Viewers have seen multiple cast members struggle to participate in those tasks, including OGs Katie Cooley and Darrell Taylor.

Therefore, it might not be surprising that Katie did not participate in the second All Stars Rivals daily.

However, the surprise for viewers was how many cast members participated in and completed that daily challenge.

Not many All Stars 5 teams competed in the Edge of Glory challenge

The Challenge star Jonna Mannion calls out All Stars castmates for inaccurate Rivals scoop
Image
Jonna Mannion called out several of her castmates from The Challenge: All Stars for details they gave her on the Rivals season.

On the show, cast members partner with castmates who have a rivalry or feud with them. Some of these castmates are individuals they never wanted to see again.

That was Beth Stolarczyk for Jonna due to her putting Jonna’s alleged infidelity on blast during a previous All Stars season.

Despite their differences, the two-time All Stars winner wanted to try to work with Beth to win a third season of the spinoff.

In a spoiler alert, things didn’t go well for them. They were the first team eliminated, losing to Adam Larson and Steve Meinke.

Jonna recently explained that she had no idea Beth would participate in All Stars 5 due to a few castmates.

Jonna said she thought Beth wasn’t part of All Stars 5

The Challenge’s Beth Stolarczyk blasts All Stars ‘cheater’ castmate: ‘She never took responsibility’
Beth Stolarczyk
Beth Stolarczyk is fresh off another appearance in The Challenge: All Stars, this time returning for a Rivals-themed installment.

Like her previous stints on the show, based on MTV’s Og Challengers, Beth had another exit ahead of reaching a final.

The show’s format involved cast members teaming up with castmates they’ve feuded with or had some rivalry with, so The Challenge partnered Beth with Jonna Mannion.

While they first appeared as All Stars castmates on the debut season, Beth ignited their feud on Season 3 when she called out Jonna for allegedly cheating with castmate Mj Garrett.

Despite Beth’s attempts to bring Jonna down, The Real World: Cancun star emerged as a winner for her second-straight All Stars season.

However, Beth recently commented about her and Jonna’s brief run on All Stars 5, calling out her “cheater” castmate and suggesting she was fake to her during their chats.

Beth Stolarczyk and Jonna Mannion’s feud has become the main attraction for MTV’s The Challenge: All Stars: Rivals. While the show is plenty popular among reality TV fans, the feud between the co-stars has riled some of them.

While both Beth Stolarczyk and Jonna Mannion have been a part of the franchise since its early days, their feud started brewing in The Challenge: All Stars Season 3. The reason behind that, of course, was the cheating rumors Stolarczyk hurled at her fellow contestant.

Stolarczyk alleged during an episode of the show that Mannion and another contestant Mj Garrett were involved in an affair. Incidentally, both Garrett and Mannion are married to different people. As such, the accusations not only shocked the fans, but also caused problems in their respective relationships. Hence, the feud began.

A new season of The Challenge: All Stars has arrived, but there are some huge changes in store. This time around, the All Stars edition of the franchise will air on MTV for the very first time, but that's not the only change fans can expect for the new season.

Production assembled a cast of that nature due to the upcoming season’s theme, which is also something never seen on All Stars before.

After some speculation, online insiders revealed the team situation for this theme, showing that the pairs were competing for the win.

This report will contain spoilers for The Challenge: All Stars 5, set to air on Paramount+ later.

The new season has a unique cast and format, which has led to some unique early results for the eliminations.

There will still be several non-mtv competitors who have appeared in recent seasons of The Challenge.

However, returning stars who are fan favorites from earlier seasons of The Challenge may make up for that with fans.

The latest updates arrive as the cast departs for Vietnam to begin filming the fifth season of the spinoff.

This report will contain spoilers for The Challenge: All Stars 5 before filming.

The Challenge’s Trishelle Cannatella says former castmate is great for The Traitors and ‘deserves to be on TV’
Trishelle Cannatella at an event for Lingerie Bowl (2005)
Trishelle Cannatella is fresh off a major reality TV competition win, following up her lack of wins on The Challenge with a victory on The Traitors 2.

She and fellow MTV star Chris “Ct” Tamburello closed out the show’s second season with the shared win after voting out castmate Mercedes “Mj” Javid at the firepit.

That earned them a prize total of over $200,000 and bragging rights for The Challenge as one of the top reality competition programs on TV.

Viewers haven’t seen competitors from The Challenge cross into other reality TV worlds, but Johnny Bananas seemed to open the door when he went on the debut of E!’s new show House of Villains.

He followed it up by appearing on The Traitors 2 with Trishelle and Ct but had an early exit from the game.

Since her win, Trishelle has appeared on various podcasts and interviews, including Challenge Mania,...

The Challenge: The Mj & Jonna Cheating Rumors Explained
Image
Jonna and Mj's close bond and exceptional teamwork on The Challenge: All Stars led to victory, but rumors of an affair overshadowed their gameplay. Cast member Beth accused Jonna of cheating on her husband with Mj, but Jonna denied the claims and even faced Beth in an elimination challenge. Despite suspicions from fans, Jonna and Mj insisted they were just friends and teammates, with Jonna currently happily married. The truth behind the affair rumors remains uncertain.

Although The Challenge: All-Stars season 3 competition was intense, the rumors about cast members Jonna Mannion and Mj Garrett having an affair generated even more buzz. Jonna participated in all three seasons of All Stars, and Mj was also part of the show's cast, first appearing in All Stars 2. The two were paired up throughout All Stars 2, and their skills and exceptional teamwork led them to victory.

The duo returned for All Stars 3, and though they were competing individually,...

Why Coral Smith May Be Returning To The Challenge
Image
Coral Smith is one of the most iconic players to ever compete on The Challenge, winning Battle of the Seasons (2002), and making the finals in all but two of her series appearances. She is known for her feisty and unapologetic one-liners, as well as her fierce competitive spirit. Unfortunately, she has not been cast on The Challenge or The Challenge: All-Stars since 2008, due to her job as a doula.

However, on Twitter, Coral recently hinted at the possibility of The Challenge comeback. She coyly tweeted, "So you’re saying do this little challenge?? Just curious…;)." Her social media post was enough to ignite a frenzy of rumors that Coral may soon be returning to the show that made her a star. As seen with the return of Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio to the show, fans are nostalgic for early players like Coral.

Jake Cornish, Izzy Fairthorne, Olivia Kaiser, Justin Hinsley, Chris 'C.T.' Tamburello, Blue Kim, Dee Valladares, Leonardo Dionicio, Johnny 'Bananas' Devenanzio, Cara Maria Sorbello, and Leroy Garrett in The Challenge (1998)
With a new All-Stars 3 season on Paramount+ and an upcoming anniversary of 24 years, The Challenge is a reality competition series that has produced an array of successful contestants. The competition series got its start in 1998 as a spinoff of The Real World and its sister show, Road Rules, pulling many of its contestants from those series. Over time, many of them have returned regularly to compete even into their middle age.

Perennial Challenge competitors such as Beth Stolarczyk, Syrus Yarbrough and Mark Long have been part of the show from the beginning. Back then, they were in their 20s and 30s. Today, they're still showing up to play in their 40s and 50s. But they're not the only Challenge alumni proving that Generation X has still got it what it takes to compete. Far from it.

Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles's Race Conversation Proves There's Much Work to Be Done
Image
I'm sure I'm not the only person who winced and cringed during a particularly shocking scene from The Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles's sixth episode. The scene in question occurs when some of the original season two cast members - which include Tami Roman, Jon Brennan, Beth Stolarczyk, Beth Anthony, David Edwards, Glen Naessens, and Irene Berrera-Kearns - attempt to play a friendly game of "fishbowl," and it gets off to an awfully intense start.

During the end of the episode, things take a sharp turn when a query about the Black Lives Matter movement and George Floyd comes up - particularly asking about Brennan's views on these topics as a white conservative. Brennan, a missionary who lives in Alabama, acknowledges that there are white people in America who are racist, but he seemingly contradicts his statement when he refers to the kids he ministers to as "young, Black,...

‘The Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles’ Examines Conversations Around Consent
Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched the premiere episode of “The Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles,” streaming now on Paramount Plus.

During the summer of 1993, reality television cameras captured the moment when David Edwards, a cast member on MTV’s “The Real World: Los Angeles,” pulled the covers off of Tami Roman (then Tami Akbar), who was lying nearly naked in bed. What seemed to start out as innocent teasing between roommates turned darker as he kept yanking on the blankets, which she was desperately trying to keep wrapped around her body, resulting in her also being pulled out of bed and into the hallway in a vulnerable position. Roommate Beth Stolarczyk, who threw her own body on top of Roman to shield her from the cameras and the eyes of the others in the house, compared his problematic disregard for consent to a rapist’s behavior.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles premiere “It’s Still Not Funny.”] Beth Anthony, Beth Stolarczyk, David Edwards, Glen Naessens, Irene Berrera-Kearns, Jon Brennan, and Tami Roman return to the iconic Venice beach house from their season of The Real World, the series’ second in 1993, in the Paramount+ reunion, and it doesn’t take long for them to start getting real … again. And for those tuning in to see what happens when Tami and David are in a room together again, given what happened that led to him getting kicked out of the house, fortunately, you don’t have to wait long. Back during their original season of The Real World, as shown quite a few times during the premiere, David pulled the blanket off that Tami was using to cover herself. As a result, he became the first person to be kicked off a reality show. Now, Tami...

MTV Sets ‘The Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles’ Cast, Premiere Date
Image
Some cast members of The Real World Los Angeles will get another shot in the MTV spotlight as the network unveils who will reunite for Season 2 of The Real World Homecoming.

Set to reunite are Beth Anthony, Beth Stolarczyk, David Edwards, Glen Naessens, Irene Berrera-Kearns, Jon Brennan and Tami Roman, who will return to the same Venice beach house from the 1993 installment. ‘The Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles’ Set for November Premiere on Paramount Plus
Image
“The Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles” is set for a Nov. 24 premiere on Paramount Plus, with seven of the original cast members from “The Real World: Los Angeles” reuniting in the same Venice Beach house they shared during their 1993 season.

The docuseries will feature Beth Anthony, Beth Stolarczyk, David Edwards, Glen Naessens, Irene Berrera-Kearns, Jon Brennan and Tami Roman, who reconnect almost two decades after last appearing on-screen together. Like the previous “Real World Homecoming” season (“New York”), they will reflect on how the series transformed their lives and potentially squash old conflicts.

The Los Angeles season of “The Real World” premiered on MTV in summer 1993, originally under the name “The Real World: California,” and was a thematic departure from the show’s “New York” season, which launched the franchise in 1992. It also featured the series’ first — but not its last — ouster of a castmate, when Edwards, a stand-up comedian,...
