The Challenge: All Stars started with a fantastic idea, but the Og concept seriously fell off with the recent All Stars Rivals.

While the throwback concept brought intriguing pairings and a few returning OGs that made it watchable, it lost the luster that arrived with the first several seasons.

And when that fifth season arrived, The Challenge: All Stars aired on a different network, and producers changed what initially worked, seemingly frustrating many fans.

We received some OGs and then cast members from recent seasons of The Challenge, arriving from CBS or other networks’ reality TV shows.

However, I believe All Stars can keep going and it’s apparent that the man who brought this concept to life, The Godfather Mark Long, is doing his darndest to keep things moving in the right direction.

The Challenge: All Stars Rivals brought a variety of individuals back to the competition, including former Road Rules castmates Katie Cooley, Adam Larson, and Steve Meinke.

Due to the theme and format, Adam and Steve were partners, following Steve’s sly move to steal Adam’s Star in All Stars 4.

However, the duo co-existed fine on Rivals, endured repeatedly going into eliminations, and ultimately won the season’s grand prize.

They even correctly determined each other’s answer to host Tj Lavin’s twist about splitting or keeping the $250,000 prize.

Following the season finale on MTV, one cast member announced retirement from The Challenge.

Steve, 48, also revealed whether or not he feels he’ll compete again or ride off into the sunset after the big win.

The Challenge All Stars: Rivals came to a dramatic end on Wednesday when Adam Larson and Steve Meinke edged out Da'Vonne Rogers and Shane Landrum by just one star to win the $250,000 grand prize. Frank Fox and Sam McGinn finished in third place, with Melissa Reeves and Nicole Zanatta in fourth.

For Steve, winning The Challenge was redemption after he "screwed the pooch" in All Stars 4 by misreading instructions and allowing Laurel Stucky to beat him to the finish line. "It was absolutely embarrassing," he tells Gold Derby (see the video interview above). "If you know me, it's the most Steve way to lose something like this. Not against someone else, but myself."

It was a lesson learned for the 48-year-old Challenge vet. This season, Steve says he was hyperaware of the rules and listened to host Tj Lavin's directions with extreme concentration — even if it made him "look constipated.

Ahead of MTV airing the finale for The Challenge: All Stars Rivals, Mark Long addressed the possible fate of the spin-off series.

Long, who initially debuted on MTV’s Road Rules franchise, became strongly associated with the cause to bring All Stars to life, and his vision ultimately worked.

The initial seasons featured the return of many of the MTV OGs that fans were interested in seeing again, including Trishelle Cannatella, Teck “Money” Holmes, Syrus Yarbrough, Ruthie Alcaide, Beth Stolarczyk, and Katie Cooley.

Additional seasons brought more returning characters, including Tina Barta, Cohutta Grindstaff, Casey Cooper, and Tyler Duckworth.

However, four years and five seasons later, the spin-off’s future seems unclear, as many fans have had less-than-stellar reactions to the latest installment.

Some have criticized the spin-off’s move from Paramount+ to MTV for the first time in five seasons. Others have blamed the cast and lack of entertainment.

Amber Borzotra and Faysal "Fessy" Shafaat were the latest pair eliminated from The Challenge All Stars: Rivals on Wednesday night. After being voted into elimination, the former adversaries were taken out by Nany Gonzalez and Turbo Camkiran. "We didn't have [enough] allies in the game to have the numbers," Amber tells Gold Derby. "There was a lot going on I didn't know about."

In this competitive season that pairs players with an arch nemesis from the past, some duos like Amber and Fessy were able to quickly build a bridge to friendship. "I really did want to win. I wanted to win for Fessy — just to prove we could have won a final together ... I was hungry this season. My biggest reason was my daughter and my second biggest reason was showing Fessy he should have stuck with me the first time."

Due to that theme, Sylvia got paired with her feuding foe KellyAnne Judd from their previous All-Stars season.

It was clear early on that even though they needed to team up and work together to stay out of eliminations and get to the final, that was an issue.

Within just a few episodes, Sylvia and KellyAnne got into a heated argument, with castmates needing to separate them.

The newest season of The Challenge: All Stars features the most unique cast so far, but some of their former castmates aren’t too impressed.

Recent remarks from Cory Wharton and Paulie Calafiore blasted many of the All Stars Rivals cast members after seeing them in action- or their inaction.

As of this writing, only two episodes of All Stars 5 have aired on MTV. Episode 2 featured a daily challenge involving heights.

Viewers have seen multiple cast members struggle to participate in those tasks, including OGs Katie Cooley and Darrell Taylor.

Therefore, it might not be surprising that Katie did not participate in the second All Stars Rivals daily.

Trishelle Cannatella is fresh off a major reality TV competition win, following up her lack of wins on The Challenge with a victory on The Traitors 2.

She and fellow MTV star Chris “Ct” Tamburello closed out the show’s second season with the shared win after voting out castmate Mercedes “Mj” Javid at the firepit.

That earned them a prize total of over $200,000 and bragging rights for The Challenge as one of the top reality competition programs on TV.

Viewers haven’t seen competitors from The Challenge cross into other reality TV worlds, but Johnny Bananas seemed to open the door when he went on the debut of E!’s new show House of Villains.

He followed it up by appearing on The Traitors 2 with Trishelle and Ct but had an early exit from the game.

The 52-year-old Challenge star shared an Instagram post to introduce the world to his newborn daughter, Sirie La’Jett Yarbrough, who was born on February 10 at 7:15 a.m.

With a new All-Stars 3 season on Paramount+ and an upcoming anniversary of 24 years, The Challenge is a reality competition series that has produced an array of successful contestants. The competition series got its start in 1998 as a spinoff of The Real World and its sister show, Road Rules, pulling many of its contestants from those series. Over time, many of them have returned regularly to compete even into their middle age.

Perennial Challenge competitors such as Beth Stolarczyk, Syrus Yarbrough and Mark Long have been part of the show from the beginning. Back then, they were in their 20s and 30s. Today, they're still showing up to play in their 40s and 50s. But they're not the only Challenge alumni proving that Generation X has still got it what it takes to compete. Far from it.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who winced and cringed during a particularly shocking scene from The Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles's sixth episode. During the summer of 1993, reality television cameras captured the moment when David Edwards, a cast member on MTV’s “The Real World: Los Angeles,” pulled the covers off of Tami Roman (then Tami Akbar), who was lying nearly naked in bed. Some cast members of The Real World Los Angeles will get another shot in the MTV spotlight as the network unveils who will reunite for Season 2 of The Real World Homecoming.

Set to reunite are Beth Anthony, Beth Stolarczyk, David Edwards, Glen Naessens, Irene Berrera-Kearns, Jon Brennan and Tami Roman, who will return to the same Venice beach house from the 1993 installment. After spending decades apart, the roommates will reconnect to find out how the series transformed their lives since the cameras stopped rolling, and they’ll discover, once again, what happens when people stop being polite… and start getting real.

MTV also revealed that The Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles wil make its Paramount+ debut on Wednesday, Nov. 24. The series also scored a renewal for Season 3.

Created for MTV by Jonathan Murray and the late Mary-Ellis Bunim of Bunim/Murray Productions, The Real World was the first reality series on television.

“The Real World Homecoming: Los Angeles” is set for a Nov. 24 premiere on Paramount Plus, with seven of the original cast members from “The Real World: Los Angeles” reuniting in the same Venice Beach house they shared during their 1993 season.

The Challenge: All Stars is set to premiere Thursday, April 1 on Paramount+, and we have your first look at the cold open of the series premiere.

It shows off some of the big returns, including Trishelle Cannatella, Mark Long, Katie Cooley, and Darrell Taylor.

Yes, Darrell has been a big part of the regular series's most recent seasons, but it will be nice to see him playing with the old-school players again.

What's immediately clear from this clip is that the new series will be a throwback to the glory days of the original, meaning that it should appeal to fans of the older iteration, as well as newer fans who have caught the original in recent years.
