Antonio Banderas' Gripping Historical Action Flop Is Finally Finding An Audience On Tubi
Image
Based strictly on box office, it would not be accurate to call Antonio Banderas one of the biggest movie stars of the 1990s, but once I laid eyes on the striking Spaniard in Pedro Almódovar's "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" and "Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down," I wanted to him to be in everything. In terms of scintillating, dead sexy screen presence, only Denzel Washington could match him. He became a mainstream American sensation when Madonna failed to seduce him in her "Blonde Ambition" tour documentary "Madonna: Truth or Dare." Banderas was primed for superstardom. And Hollywood promptly fumbled the ball.

Banderas delivered the smoldering goods in Arne Glimcher's lively historical drama "The Mambo Kings," but Warner Bros. had no idea how to sell a movie about Cuban music to American moviegoers, so it stiffed commercially in 1992. Banderas subsequently got lost in the star-studded...

‘Project Z’ Review
Image
Stars: Eili Harboe, Dennis Storhoi, Regina Tucker, Vebjorn Enger, Jonis Jesf, Iben Akerlie, Arthur Berning | Written and Directed by Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken

Like many people, you might think you’ve seen everything when it comes to zombie movies. But there’s always somebody with a new idea, a fresh and original take on the horror genre. Films like One Cut of the Dead, Anna and the Apocalypse, and Train to Busan, have all added something new to the zombie movie, and this Norwegian production tries to do the same.

And Project Z is somewhat original. It takes things from various other movies to create something that is quite unique. To start with, this is a found footage movie, and there’s actually not a whole lot of found footage zombie movies. It doesn’t exactly play out like other films in that horror subgenre though, because it’s a movie about people making a movie.

Nightmare review – atmospheric property horror treads line between dreams and reality
Eili Harboe
A young woman is tormented in her sleep in this crepuscular debut feature from Norwegian writer-director Kjersti Helen Rasmussen

If there is one place you would have thought a sleep-deprived person might be able to stop herself dropping off, it’s in a lecture about sleep. But that’s what this atmospheric but somewhat heavy-handed debut feature from Norway has its protagonist Mona (Eili Harboe) do as she is introduced by dishevelled academic Aksel (Dennis Storhøi) to the possibility that she has become the victim of the mythical incubus Mare. This may explain a recent run of freakish dreams in which she’s tormented by a vampiric doppelganger of her caring boyfriend Robby (Herman Tømmeraas).

Nightmare also belongs to the school of property horror already occupied by The Tenant and Mother! Left alone by Robby, a high-flyer preoccupied with some kind of algorithmic investment venture, Mona is charged with renovating...

Nightmare trailer: Norwegian thriller is coming to Shudder and AMC+
Image
After working as a screenwriter on horror and thriller projects like Varg Veum – Din til døden, Villmark 2, and The Tunnel, Kjersti Helen Rasmussen has now made her feature directorial debut with the Norwegian horror film Nightmare, which has landed international distribution through the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services. Nightmare will be available to watch on both of those services as of this Friday, September 29th – and with the release date so close, we thought we should share the trailer for the film. You can check it out in the embed above!

Here’s the synopsis: Mona and Robby are a young couple in love. Robby has just landed his dream job, and they’ve scored an amazing deal on a spacious, if run-down, flat. Never mind that it requires quite a bit of renovation. Never mind the neighbors’ constant fighting, and screaming baby… Never mind that Mona is suddenly...

‘A Storm for Christmas’ (2022) – A Norwegian Christmas Series on Netflix
Image
A Storm for Christmas is a series directed by Per-Olav Sørensen with Valter Skarsgård, Sus Wilkins, Jon Øigarden and Dennis Storhoi.

Numerous stories being told – Christmas is not the same for everyone. This is one refreshing season number.

Premise

Stranded at Oslo airport, only 24 hours before Christmas, people find themselves in each their dilemmas. Some are there to welcome their loved ones, some to fly home to their families, some work at the airport, and some who want to fly away and avoid the festivities. Their Christmas plans go awry.

About the Series

In six episodes we are offered this multiple narrative that covers a broad array of scenarios up to Christmas time. A refreshing Christmas story with its innovative premise. It is not a highly sophisticated production, but counts on good performances, and the varied characterizations make it more interesting as a story. True to the Christmas productions it retains a lighthearted tone,...

‘Troll’ (2022) – Netflix Movie – Movie Review: A Bit of the Same Ol’ Same Ol’
Image
Troll is a Norwegian-American action-fantasy movie directed by Roar Uthaug starring Ine Marie Wilmann and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen.

By the way, it has more references to Jurassic Park than it does to (due to the obvious similarities) the giant in Tokio. An adventure of the sort that entertains, and does not seek to provide more than that.

If you thought that trolls were just cute, almost harmless people leaving malicious comments on the internet, you were wrong.

Is it Godzilla? King Kong? There is a new guy in town: Troll!

Troll (2022) Premise

A paleontologist must assist in subduing and capturing a gigantic creature that has awoken in the mountain range of Dovre. This creature is running amok, destroying everything in its path, and is headed towards Oslo, the capital city of Norway. Was there some truth to Norwegian folklore, after all?

Movie Review

This is an entertaining number, but not a blockbuster.

London Film Festival 2022: ‘NightMare’ Review
Image
Stars: Eili Harboe, Herman Tømmeraas, Dennis Storhøi | Written and Directed by Kjersti Helen Rasmussen

A pregnant young woman becomes convinced that a demon is intent on possessing her unborn child in this horror debut from Norwegian writer-director Kjersti Helen Rasmussen. Despite a few plot wobbles, it’s a well crafted chiller, anchored by a solid lead performance from Eili Harboe (Thelma).

Set in present-day Norway, NightMare centres on Mona (Harboe) and Robbie (Herman Tømmeraas), a young couple who’ve just moved into a spacious, but suspiciously cheap apartment. Mona is hesistant on the subject of children, but she soon falls pregnant, which delights Robbie. However, their happiness is short-lived, because Mona starts experiencing night terrors, which grow more intense with every night that passes.

In desperation, Mona and Robbie turn to Axsel (Dennis Storhøi), a doctor who specialises in sleep disorders, but when he warns of a mythical creature called a Mare,...

Sf Studios Teams With ‘Project Z’ Director on Spanish Flu Horror Film (Exclusive)
Image
Sf Studios is joining forces with prolific Norwegian filmmaker Henrik M. Dahlsbakken and the banner FilmBros on “Possession,” a horror film set during the Spanish flu in 1918.

The film, which portrays the terrifying events following a pastor’s actions in a small Sami village, is being handled by REinvent International Sales and will be distributed in the Nordics by Sf Studios.

Exploring themes of faith and doubt amid a pandemic, “Possession” opens in 1918, as World War I is coming to an end and the Spanish flu is ravaging populations. A pastor returns home to his family in Norway to start a congregation, after several years as a missionary in Madagascar. With the help of a local mining company, he starts the work of building a church, but the place turns out to be an old South Sami burial ground. When it is decided that the remains should be removed, an...

Official UK Trailer for 'Congo' Movie About Two Norwegians Captured
"What are our chances for a pardon now?" Signature Entertainment in the UK have debuted this official UK trailer for the Norwegian true story drama Congo, originally titled Mordene i Kongo (which translates to The Murders in Congo). In the spring of 2009 two Norwegian adventurers, Joshua French and Tjostolv Moland, are accused of killing their hired driver just before crossing into the eastern Congo. The following manhunt starts a political and diplomatic headache. Congo is the unfathomable and controversial real-life story and murder case that shocked the world. Described as "hard-hitting and often harrowing" in reviews. Aksel Hennie (from The Martian) and Tobias Santelmann (from The Last Kingdom) star as the friends whose journey into the Congo turns into a waking nightmare. Tobias Santelmann already won two key Best Actor awards in Norway. Also starring Ine F. Jansen, Dennis Storhøi, Tone Danielsen, and Anthony Oseyemi. This looks like a very tricky,...

B-Roll Footage for The Thing
Some of the footage in the video shows the creature design. But to me the most spectacular feature is that you can see how the Norwegian base camp is recreated almost identically to the one you saw briefly in the 1982 version. Even the block of ice that the creature escapes from is identical. Another great piece about this footage is that you can see the locale in which they filmed. This wasn't filmed in some studio, this was done in the snow covered mountains in Canada. The look of the 1982 film, with that feeling that the location was devoid of life outside of the camp really added to the creepiness of the overall film, and this one seems to be right on target. The prequel is directed by Matthijs van Heijningen jr. The cast includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Joel Edgerton, Dennis Storhøi, Trond Espen Seim, Jørgen Langhelle, Jonathan...

The Thing: Prequel's Creature Design & Video Breakdown of the 1982 Version
Uploaded by the unofficial The Thing Facebook page Was Childs an alien? The second part of the Video really answers this question, but the first part is great as well. It's funny I've watched this film probably twenty times and I always ask that question once the end happens. Finally we have real solid reasons to backup the speculation that Keith David's character was in fact infected. See if you agree with the assessment. The prequel is directed by Matthijs van Heijningen jr. The cast includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Joel Edgerton, Dennis Storhøi, Trond Espen Seim, Jørgen Langhelle, Jonathan Walker, Eric Christian Olsen, Jo Adrian Haavind, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jan Gunnar Røise and Kristofer Hivju. Universal Reveal First Simple Yet Effective Teaser Poster For The Thing Prequel
It might simply be a prequel but aside from the fact its still going to carry the exact same title that its 1982 predecessor had it has got one heck of a tough act to follow - or well, prequelise. John Carpenter's fantastic horror sci-fi remake (based on the 1951 sci-fi flick 'The Thing from Another World') is still one of the classic horrors of the past 30 years and so director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. has his work cut out. 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World' hottie Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars along with Joel Edgerton, Jonathan Walker ('Land of the Dead'), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje ('Lost'), Dennis Storhoi, Trond Espen Seim, Jorgen Langhelle, Eric Christian Olsen, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jan Gunnar Roise, Kristofer Hivju and Jo Adrian Haavind. Let's just hope computer generated effects are overlooked on this one. Check out the new teaser poster below....

The Thing Prequel Released In October 2011
Universal pulled their Thing Prequel from its 29th April slot to allow Fast and Furious pole position (sorry for the racing car pun). The reason given was for ‘additional photography’ because apparently something ‘character development’ needed clearing up.

Now it’s been announced The Thing will be released on 14th October, 2011 – just in time for Halloween! Although Paranormal Activity 3 has stamped its authority on that period, too. There was at one point a fear the movie wouldn’t see the light of day at all in 2011 but now fears can be allied. We will get to see it next year!

Synopsis:

In the thriller The Thing, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet. Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian...

The Thing Prequel Delayed For Reshoots
It was pretty surprising to discover Universal took The Thing prequel completely off their 2011 slate. No reason was given, and many assumed it was a canny business decision to allow Fast and Furious a shot at the 29th April release date.

But no. Turns out The Thing was removed for reshoots or as the studio told Hitflix, “additional photography”. They also report the director (Matthijs van Heijningen Jr) has a rough cut of the film and that the reshoots will flesh out existing action scenes and clarify some plot points. Sounds like a load of old movie PR bullshit to me and what’s really happened is they’ve shot a movie the suits aren’t happy with.

I’m still rather concerned as to whether this prequel is actually a prequel at all and really just a revamp of Carpenter’s remake of Howard Hawks’ carrot man horror flick.
