Clint Eastwood's 2008 film "Changeling" is based on the real-life case of Christine Collins. In 1928, Christine Collins' nine-year-old son Walter was abducted from the streets of Los Angeles while he was on the way to the movies. Collins called the police, and the subsequent investigation received a lot of press. Despite the publicity, the LAPD was unable to locate Walter, so the case went cold. Five months later, though, Walter was found in DeKalb, Illinois. He was reunited with Christine, but something was amiss: It wasn't actually Walter. Christine protested, but a police captain named J.J. Jones said that she should take the boy home anyway to "try him out," as he put it. Just to clear up the matter, dental records were taken, proving that the boy wasn't Walter.
To save face, though, Jones declared that Collins had indeed been reunited with her actual son but had experienced a mental breakdown,...

You know that gut-punch feeling when you’re deep into a show, hooked, obsessed, emotionally invested, and then bam, it gets canceled out of nowhere? Yeah, we’ve all been there, yelling at the screen like “Seriously? That’s it?!”
It’s the heartbreak no one warns you about, worse than a bad breakup and twice as confusing. One minute you’re watching your favorite characters thrive, and the next, you’re left hanging with zero closure, unresolved cliffhangers, and way too many what-ifs.
TV networks can be savage like that. They’ll axe a brilliant show before it even finds its audience, or worse, right when it’s getting really good. Some of these series had cult followings, critical acclaim, or stories that were just heating up, and yet, they were shown the door. No warning. No final bow. Just credits rolling on what could’ve been.

There was a phase in the mid-2000s when the Wachowski sisters made the most of the clout that they had earned via their three Matrix movies, and produced a couple of genre films that might not have been green-lit otherwise. Both of those films — V for Vendettaand Ninja Assassin — were directed by their close collaborator, James McTeigue. Now, over 15 years after its theatrical run, Ninja Assassin has crept into the HBO streaming charts, where it's facing off against the blockbusters Sinners and A Minecraft Movie.
According to FlixPatrol, Ninja Assassin took the fifth spot on HBO on July 7. Originally released in 2009, Ninja Assassin had a mediocre run at the box office, grossing $60 million worldwide against a reported budget of $30 million. The movie earned mixed reviews, and is currently sitting at a "rotten" 26% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads, "Overly serious and incomprehensibly edited,...

Doctor Who has had a lot of ups and downs lately. The most recent two seasons, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, have gotten mixed reviews: some episodes have hit and others haven't. Much more concerning, ratings have been dropping, even with a new infusion of cash thanks to a Disney partnership. And things got quite messy with the season 2 finale when Gatwa's Doctor generated into Billie Piper, who played companion Rose Tyler back when the show was first revived in the mid-2000s. Billie Piper is a familiar face for Doctor Who fans, which is exciting, but there's a sense that this was a last-minute plan, with lots of rumors flying about Gatwa having exited early.
I think everyone is bracing for an announcement that Doctor Who has been cancelled, or at least put on an extended hiatus; showrunner Russell T Davies has already said that a "pause" might be coming.

His stint on the series eventually got bogged down in editorial interference; Spidey joined The Avengers, found himself at the centre of a convoluted crossover called "The Other," and eventually made a deal with the devil in the hugely controversial "One More Day" arc.
Jms also intended to make Peter Parker the father of Gwen Stacy's children, but was forced into pivoting to Norman Osborn (the storyline has since been retconned and forgotten about).
Despite that, fans have hoped for Jms to make his return to Spidey storytelling.

One of the most acclaimed writers in Amazing Spider-Man history was J. Michael Straczynski, the popular film and TV writer, who wrote the series from 2001 through the end of "One More Day" in 2007. Now, almost twenty years after he left the wallcrawler, Straczynski is returning to Spider-Man for a new miniseries.
Following his initial return to Spidey in July's Spider-Man and the Sinister Sixteen one-shot in July (which is part of Straczynski's series of offbeat one-shots featuring unlikely pairings within the Marvel Universe), Straczynski will return to the pages of Amazing Spider-Man for the five-issue miniseries, Amazing Spider-Man: Torn, launching in October with art by Pere Pérez, along with a first issue cover by superstar artist Adam Hughes. Thor's impending demise in the pages of Al Ewing's Immortal Thor has been teased for months. Now, we have the first detail about his inevitable rebirth.
Following the release of Immortal Thor #25 in July, Ewing will launch a new run of Thor alongside artist Pasqual Ferry, who makes a thunderous return to the character following his acclaimed work during Matt Fraction's run in the 2010s.
It's said that the series will deliver a major shift in Ewing's overall Thor narrative, with this newly launched series setting up a captivating new status quo for the God of Thunder, unlike any in his 60+ year history. For now, we only have a brief description to go by, but it sounds like the world has forgotten the Asgardian, with the hero once again considered a myth by the world.

This story must begin with a prologue. Way back in 1989, TV guru J. Michael Straczynski had brought his idea for "Babylon 5" to Paramount, hoping the studio would produce it and turn it into a full-blown sci-fi show. He presented Paramount with a series bible, character bios, artwork, and even 22 brief story ideas that he intended to write for the show. The series was set in the mid-23rd century aboard a space station that was located in a neutral part of space. Many aliens would pass through, and the show's main characters, part of a peacekeeping military-like organization, had to tackle all the natural intrigue of being in that position. Paramount turned down "Babylon 5," but Straczynski ended up selling his pitch to Warner Bros. a few years later.

When "Batman: The Animated Series" debuted in 1992, Batman's last leading role in animation had been on the final "Super Friends" season: 1985's "The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians." Batman had never exactly faded away, though. There was another Batman cartoon pitch in the late 1980s (one that's totally fallen through the cracks of history since then) in the form of "Batman and the New Robin." This show would've starred Batman alongside the second (and edgiest) Robin, Jason Todd.
"Batman and the New Robin" was going to be produced by Nelvana, and the unearthed series bible was penned by J. Michael Straczynski. Jms, as he's often called, would go on to create the space opera series "Babylon 5," and he's also a prolific comic book writer. Over the last few months, prolific writer J. Michael Straczynski has been spotlighting unlikely character pairings in a series of action-packed one-shots. These timeless and standalone stories have co-starred two Marvel icons of Straczynski's choosing, either in unexpected team-ups or thrilling showdowns.
From Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon to Nick Fury vs. Fin Fang Foom, they've taken us to some wild places, and this July will see him close out the series with Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Sixteen.
Jms was responsible for an iconic Amazing Spider-Man run, which saw stories like "Sins Past" and "One More Day" divide the fanbase (though both were the subject of editorial interference). While he has written Spidey since, this comic will see him team up with legendary artist Phil Noto for a doozy of a finale.
Here's the official description for Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Sixteen:

Star Trek almost got a reboot from one of the greatest sci-fi creators of all time! Imagine how different things could have been with that!
In 1993, sci-fi fans were buzzing over the premiere of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The spinoff took a different direction with the franchise, set on a space station and pushing more conflict than other Star Trek shows.
The series would of course become a beloved hit that became more epic with the Dominion War. However, its premiere was mirrored by the syndicated premiere of Babylon 5. Obviously, two shows set on a space station filled with alien life and later involving intergalactic war would be an odd coincidence for fans and reporters.

At CinemaCon last night, Sony Pictures, filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, and actor Tom Holland officially announced that Spider-Man 4 will be titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
For longtime comic book fans, that subtitle has a lot of meaning and takes us back to 2008 for a two-year period of storytelling that completely changed Peter Parker's world. In the wake of the hugely controversial "One More Day," it was a brand new day for Spider-Man, and his life hasn't been the same since.
In this feature, we're bringing you up to speed with everything you need to know about the "Brand New Day" comics and how we think that could affect what we see in theaters next summer. While a shared title doesn't mean a direct adaptation - look at Captain America: Civil War - there are many elements from this time we believe are going to be part of the MCU.

Pedro Pascal is currently doing the rounds to promote The Last of Us season 2 and we're expecting him to field more than a few questions about The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The first came during Jimmy Kimmel Live! and the host couldn't resist asking the actor about Reed Richards and Sue Storm's relationship...in the bedroom, that is. Presenting a panel from J. Michael Straczynski's Fantastic Four comic book run, Kimmel wondered what the Invisible Woman might have been referring to when she praised her husband's "wonderful set of abilities."
Confirming that "everything has to stretch," Pascal argued that it simply means the leader of the Fantastic Four is "an incredible conversationalist in bed."
It's a fun exchange and not a mystery we anticipate The Fantastic Four: First Steps tackling when it arrives in theaters this summer!
Reed and Sue will, however, have a child in the upcoming reboot.

During the Marvel Comics event Blood Hunt, Spider-Man (Miles Morales) was turned into a vampire by Blade, who we later find out was possessed by Varnae. After the crossover ended, Miles remained a vampire. After he fails to control his bloodlust, Misty Knight calls a favor with T’Challa, the Black Panther.
T’Challa gives Miles some techniques and a vibranium suit to help keep his desire for blood down while still being able to use his venom powers. However, that wasn’t enough, so T’Challa takes Spidey to the Soul Tree, Bishiya Ruhi in Wakanda. While there, Spider-Man is confronted by Bast and his god, Anansi. With their help, Miles is cured of his vampirism, but it comes with a price: Anansi is now along for the ride in Miles’ head to learn stories from his perspective.

Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone is one of the most enduring television classics of all time. In its anthology format of supernatural thrillers, the series delivers with an ironic twist and a healthy dose of social conscience, which transcends the era they were produced to become evergreen classics. Multiple reboot series have come and gone over the years, none of which have been able to capture lightning in a bottle the way the original series did. The most ambitious was likely the first, starting in 1985 and lasting for three seasons. That first reboot made a real effort to update Serling's vision without losing what made it so special.
Whether it succeeded, there's a telling moment in the opening credits that speaks volumes: a flash of Serling's profile that comes and goes just before the title card appears. The 1980s Twilight Zone feels very much like that sometimes, delivering just...

From Uncle Ben’s death occurring long before Peter Parker gained his superpowers to Norman Osborn serving as Peter’s mentor, the series aims to shake up the status quo of Marvel’s flagship superhero. One of the most significant divergences from the traditional Spider-Man tale was his very origin story, which played out in the first episode, “Amazing Fantasy.” Though bitten by a spider as per usual, it was not a radioactive spider from a science exhibition or Oscorp lab; instead, it emerged from a portal opened by Doctor Strange, who accidentally teleported himself to Midtown High while battling a ferocious monster.

There was a bit of a sci-fi cold war in the 1990s that many newer fans may not know about. Accusations of theft made the rounds as the creators of Babylon 5 felt that Star Trek: Deep Space Nine plagiarized its concept. There might be some truth to the claims, as J. Michael Straczynski apparently had meetings with Paramount about producing the show as early as 1989.
Yet, Deep Space Nine came around four years later in 1993, and Babylon 5 came around one year later in 1994. According to series actress Patricia Tallman, the two sides settled out of court on the matter, bringing in some degree to credibility to the claims. This may have been part of the reason there was so much bad blood between the shows and the fandoms.

One of the most important figures in the history of cinema, with both on and off-screen presence that has lasted more than half a century, Clint Eastwood spans generations of Hollywood. His on-camera work in the Western films of the 1960s helped to usher in the Spaghetti Western subgenre, and his pivot to movies like Dirty Harry represented a shift toward the grittier pessimism of New Hollywood.
However, much of Eastwood's most prolific work has been behind the camera, directing dozens of movies over the last several decades. Even when Eastwood is not on the screen in one of his own films, his minimalist style and quiet approach to telling small-scale human stories still peek through, and he continues to capture the depth of the human experience well into his 90s.

Doctor Doom's story, though, is just beginning, when Robert Downey Jr. makes his Marvel return playing a very different kind of "iron man" in 2026's "Avengers: Doomsday."
Yet, Marvel Comics is bringing this unlikely pair together for a special 40-page one-shot: "Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon" #1 — possibly the publisher's wildest crossover since "Aliens Vs Avengers" last year — and Marvel has shared an exclusive preview of the issue with /Film.
"Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon" #1 is written by J. Michael Straczynski, creator of the 1994 space opera TV show "Babylon 5" and a prolific comic book writer; "Jms" (as he's often nicknamed) just finished a run on "Captain America."

Drawing the issue is artist Will Robson, with a cover from artist Gary Frank.

While Captain America can deliver a heart-warming and hopeful plea to his allies, only Thor has the power to wield his words with the weight of the King of All Gods. With the highest seat in Asgard, Thor carries a deep sense of reassuring strength when tragedy befalls his subjects. He may not rally others as effortlessly as Steve, but the heavenly weight of a god’s words is incomparable.
Steve Rogers and Thor have a lot in common. Regardless of their initial reasoning, both have carried the tremendous responsibility of leading armies of soldiers. They make life-and-death decisions on behalf of others but push themselves to go beyond their expectations of leadership for the betterment of their teams.
But as charismatic as Captain America’s speeches are, he’s only been around for a little over a century. Thor has had millennia more experience commanding, now fully stepping up to command all of Asgard.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe took a slight break in 2024; the only entries were the loosely-connected film "Deadpool & Wolverine," the "Hawkeye" spinoff show "Echo," and the witchy Disney+ series "Agatha All Along" (along with the third and final season of the animated multiverse anthology "What If...?").
But now in 2025, the MCU is soaring back in full strength, starting with "Captain America: Brave New World." Following on from the "Falcon and The Winter Soldier" Disney+ series, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has officially stepped into the role of Captain America for the franchise's fourth film. Sam is set to find himself in an international conspiracy of Hulk supporting characters, from President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (Harrison Ford), aka the Red Hulk, to the long-unseen twisted scientist Samuel Sterns/The Leader (Tim Blake Nelson).
So, of course, it's time for movie synergy. Sam is the Captain America in Jed MacKay's "Avengers" right now...

Warning: Spoilers for Ultimate Spider-Man #12Aunt May is a truly indispensable part of the Parker family in Spider-Man lore, but that idea is being put to the test with a controversial change in the new Ultimate Universe. No matter what trouble Peter goes through, he can almost always rely on his aunt for emotional support. Aunt May is partly responsible for Peter's strong moral core, but everything is different in the Ultimate Universe.
Fans got to see the surprising new family dynamic in Ultimate Spider-Man #12 by Johnathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto. This story takes place in December, and the Parker family has gathered around for Christmas, including Ben Parker, Peter, Mary Jane, Jonah Jameson, Madeline Watson, and Peter's children, May and Richard Parker.
One of the most notable absences is obviously Aunt May, who unfortunately lost her life in a supposed terrorist attack in New York City.

DC Comics is best known for housing some of the most popular superheroes and stories, but it also houses some of the most emotionally enduring stories in the comic industry. It's easy to praise DC for making comic books feel sophisticated, but the publisher also has a knack for making stories consistent tearjerkers.
The stories at DC Comics can be unrelenting in their heavy material. It shouldn't come as a surprise when DC's key heroes have outright depressing origin stories, like having their parents shot dead in front of them in an alleyway or an entire race of aliens destroyed before they reach their formative years. However, it's mighty impressive that so many stories showcase how DC pulls at its audience's heartstrings. These are just some examples of comic issues that need to come with a tissue box with every purchase.
