This post contains major spoilers for "My Oxford Year."
Netflix might be responsible for one of the best limited series of the year in "Adolescence," but that doesn't mean the streamer has forgotten how to churn out the easily binge-able melodramas that helped it win the streaming wars. "My Oxford Year" is the latest Netflix romance film and it's, well, nonsense really. But it's sort of fun nonsense in that it makes no attempt whatsoever to apologize for its young adult modern-day fairy tale naiveté.
The film stars Sofia Carson, who played Nora Parisi in Netflix's "Carry-On" and has been making a name for herself as an aspiring queen of Netflix romantic dramas, beginning with 2022's "Purple Hearts" and continuing on to the romantic comedy "The Life List" (which dominated Netflix's top charts in 2025). Now, she's returned for more romance with "My Oxford Year," a BookTok fantasy come to life...

On Tuesday’s episode of “The Tonight Show,” Lin-Manuel Miranda revealed that the movie version of his Tony Award-winning musical “Hamilton” will come to theaters on Sept. 5.
“I have an announcement!” Miranda declared during his “Tonight Show” interview. “So, tomorrow is the 10-year anniversary of ‘Hamilton,’ and we’ve been celebrating all year. But we have one more way to celebrate. We filmed most of the original cast performing in ‘Hamilton’ in 2016, and we always wanted to release it theatrically, but then the pandemic hit, and so we decided to release it on streaming so that everyone could see it at home whenever they wanted. But, Sept. 5, you will be able to see ‘Hamilton’ in movie theaters nationwide and in Puerto Rico.”

Jonathan Groff—the name that’s lit up Broadway marquees and Hollywood screens—just earned himself a brand new standing ovation. Not from a packed theater, but from Franklin & Marshall College, who surprised the Just in Time star with an honorary doctorate of fine arts. And honestly, if talent and charm were degrees, Groff would have a shelf-full already!
Jonathan Groff’s Doctorate Moment Takes Center Stage
The moment was pure Broadway magic: right after a performance, Groff’s first drama teacher, Sue Fisher, stepped up and presented him with the honorary degree in front of an unsuspecting crowd. Groff, always humble and beaming, called the moment “a total surprise.” And in true Groff fashion, he used his spotlight to raise up others, reminding everyone, “teachers are everything.” Cue the collective “awww.”

What begins as a fun fling evolves as the two grow a strong bond built on poetry and literature, before profoundly altering each other’s lives and subverting each other’s expectations. Jeff Daniels is getting vocal about what he feels America has lost as a nation since having President Donald Trump back in the White House.
The Emmy-winning actor, who has always been open about his political stance, recently appeared on MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace‘s The Best People podcast, where he blasted not only the controversial president, whom he called a “snake oil salesman,” but also those who voted for him in November.
“We’ve lost decency, we’ve lost civility, we’ve lost respect for the rule of law — lost it,” Daniels said. “We have normalized verbal abuse on the internet. We’ve normalized bullying; much as the woke generation tried to, you know, change that, it’s back. Out the window goes character, integrity.”
The Dumb and Dumber actor continued, “I mean, nobody has great things to say about politicians. They never have. Go back to Mark Twain.

If you assembled a focus group of today’s country artists and asked them to list their biggest influences, a few names would probably rise to the top: Johnny Cash and Hank Williams; Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn. More contemporary icons like Shania Twain and George Strait would come up, and even underappreciated legends like Billie Joe Shaver and Tanya Tucker. Chris Logan Talks His Start In Country Music
How did you get started in country music?
My first instance with country music was at a very young age. From the time I was born to about 4 years old my dad said he would play me all the classic country songs from George Strait to Keith Whitley to The Bellamy Brothers. After my parents split up I grew up with my mexican roots and mexican music but still would listen to some country given that I grew up on the US side of a border town. However, during the pandemic I got the opportunity to work as a studio musician and songwriter for a latin country project here...

Pixar is back with its next big adventures, and this time it’s thinking big…beavers? At the 2025 Annecy Animation Festival, the studio unveiled its all-new look for its upcoming lineup, Hoppers. It is a part of Pixar’s upcoming slate that includes the sci-fi adventure Elio, the long-awaited Toy Story 5, and the newly announced feline-led adventure Gatto.
Let’s just say the audiences were charmed and maybe got a little déjà vu. Starring Jon Hamm as one of the central roles, Hoppers is packed with the studio’s trademark heart, humor, and talking animals. With the Pixar charm and a plot that feels surprisingly similar to James Cameron’s Avatar, the movie is raising many questions. And described by the studio’s Pete Docter as “Avatar but cute,” is turning the most heads.

We're in a bizarre place where animation is more successful than ever yet also on the brink of disaster. There's the constant threat of AI, studios pushing for outsourcing, and the general reliance on IP and known franchises over creative ambition. This, in turn, means that whenever a studio does come out with an original idea, it's cause for celebration.
Take Pixar, one of the most beloved American animation studios of the past 30 years. From the moment it debuted the first computer-animated feature film to get a major release, the studio has balanced big franchises like "Toy Story" and "The Incredibles" with one original movie after another. Sure, there have been misfires, but it's about that experimentation -- because the more cartoons get made, the more cartoons get made.

Pixar's new movie, Hoppers, is "like Avatar meets Mission Impossible," with the first footage being revealed. Directed by Daniel Chong, the movie is one of many on the way from Pixar, including Elio, Toy Story 5, and the recently announced Gatto. What will be Pixar's 30th animated movie, Hoppers' release date is scheduled for March 2026. The film follows Mabel, a girl who uses technology that "hops" human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals.
As part of Pixar's presentation at the Annecy Animation Festival, chief creative officer Pete Doctor shared new details about Hoppers, including screening the first footage. ScreenRant attended the event along with other media outlets and learned that Hoppers is "like Avatar meets Mission Impossible meets Planet Earth," according to Doctor. Pixar is heading deep into the glade for its next original adventure, and Hoppers sounds like a whole new kind of wild. During a recent Pixar presentation attended by Collider’s Michael Zimmerman, Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter unveiled major plot details about the film, which is set to hit theaters in March 2026, having only been announced last August. Directed by We Bare Bears creator Daniel Chong and produced by Pixar vet Nicole Grindle, Hoppers is already deep in production — and if Docter’s tease is anything to go by, it’s going to be one of Pixar’s most delightfully offbeat projects in years.
“We’re in the last months of finishing the movie,” Docter shared. “It’s looking great.” At the heart of Hoppers is Mabel, a nature-loving college student voiced by Disney Channel star Piper Curda. According to Docter, “She grew up in this small town in...

Pixar’s “Hoppers,” first announced at Disney’s fan convention D23 last year, is an original film arriving in theaters on March 6, 2026, from director Daniel Chong. It’s built around an ingenious, only-at-Pixar premise about a young girl named Mabel (Piper Curda), who, looking to save the local animal population from an impending construction project, “hops” into the body of a robotic beaver. (The science is underground and dodgy.) This way, Mabel can communicate with the other animals as an animal.
Last year, they only showed a brief clip of Mabel inhabiting the body of a beaver. But at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Friday, Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter showed much more. And we’ve got all the details.
The first sequence showed Mabel, now a small robotic beaver, arriving in the pond. She sees another beaver, who is very laid back, and when she tries to get his attention,...

Documentarian Lance Oppenheim was recognized by IndieWire Honors on June 5 with the Magnify Award. Oppenheim’s work in “Ren Faire” certainly held a magnifying glass up to the Texas Renaissance Fair, ultimately documenting a story that played like a real-life “Succession,” captivating HBO viewers when it aired in 2024. It also created a folk legend of its late star George C. Coulam, or “King George” — who was so moved by the docuseries he reinstated an employee he was shown to have mistreated.
“We lost King George about two weeks ago … and I’ll forever remember him,” Oppenheim said. “And I hope that this documentary serves as a testament to the person he was … warts and all, [and] really just to capture how amazing and iconoclastic the guy was. He said one thing: ‘The highest glory is being in love,’ and I very much believe that, and I dedicate this [honor] to him.”

From a Mini ‘Girlfriends’ Reunion to ‘Matlock’ Rolling Deep, IndieWire Honors 2025 Was About Support
If there was an underlying theme to the latest TV edition of IndieWire Honors, it would be that of support, and having your colleagues’ backs. Some of the ways that manifested were as simple as cinematographer and director Jessica Lee Gagné coaching her colleague and filmmaking mentor Ben Stiller through the Québécois pronunciation of “auteur” as they accepted the Auteur Award for their work on “Severance,” or as grand as Visionary Award winner Mara Brock Akil getting a chance to thank the stars of several of her shows, from “Girlfriends” to Netflix’s “Forever,” with members of those casts all in attendance.
Some more pairs accepted awards together, like “#1 Happy Family USA” co-creators Ramy Youssef and Pam Brady, who shared their awe for the animation medium while accepting the Spark Award, saying how it involves “as many people that are in this room working on the smallest details.” And “The Penguin...

“You see a really quick rise, and a lot of people don’t see that you came from nothing to a hundred real quick,” Hudson Westbrook says. He’s speaking from experience.
A little more than a year ago, Westbrook was just another student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, working cattle in his downtime. He’d dabbled in music since he was a teenager in Stephenville, the town heavy on cowboys and rodeo west of Fort Worth where he was raised, and he’d been experimenting with songwriting for roughly a year.

After all was said and done, host Ryan Seacrest announced that John, Jamal, Slater, Thunderstorm, Gabby, and Breanna had made it into America's Top 6, and that Josh King and Mattie were the Bottom 2.
As co-winners of the contest, Luke and Lionel chose to save Mattie, making Josh the latest person eliminated from ABC's reality TV show. Ironically, Josh's last performance on the show was "Home," about a person's desire to return home — he got his wish.

The change comes two months after CEO Mike Harris took the reins of the company alongside chief creative officer Dave Cobb after previous CEO Cindy Mabe exited. In rebranding as McA, Umg Nashville is taking on the famed namesake its parent company Umg was formally known as until the ’90s.
